Are you riding the Apex 40? If so do you have PK noseguards on there? If you don't have PK's my suggestion is to get them. In most freestyle instances (many of which I have put myself in) the weight of the board is secondary to the pop the board provides. A heavy board with the proper kick angle and pop will give you faster spin speed than a lighter deck. Not that we are suggesting that you find a heavier board, just that the Apex 40 shouldn't have any pop / weight problems for freestyle : )
We do! Carving / Cruising and for lessons / teaching they are fantastic. Once you master slide initiation and move on to larger hills they hinder more than they help. This is because different riders, on different terrain, need different trucks (and boards). We have been pushing ourselves and our performance boards, this means a lot more speed and a lot less flats / carving. When we do ride that stuff we rock Originals, they are still the most fun for that stuff in my opinion.
Hey Creitz, the key to this is remembering that more materials will always mean more cost. The Apex 37 comes at roughly the same price as the Tan Tien... but with carbon. The Apex 40 uses the same materials (more carbon) and more surface area, the price is reflective of what it costs us to make it. That said the new DK Apex 37s will be coming in at the same price as the current Apex 37. The Maven 35 is a similarly priced pure freeride, fiberglass deck that will also be out in September.
The Apex 40 is seen as heavier because a lot of the boards that you would traditionally match it up with (for tech) are shorter. The board is 40.75 inches long. That being said we did a lot of work to make sure the technical aspects of the board worked with the weight. There is something to a balanced board. The new nose guards / extensions go further toward that goal and should release this time next month. Weight loss you see jumping to a different deck comes out of deck durability.
Haha! Thanks for the support Maple. Not sure it's totally necessary to pick ONLY one brand to support but we are certainly happy to be at the top of your list. Thanks! DiamondDrop is still in the lab as we work on graphic issues, the thing is so concaved / bent that we are having problems getting art to stick to it. It's crazy and I seriously never thought we would have this problem, but hey, it rides like a dream so I guess it's worth the effort, right? Right. Work continues haha
@alimistaTV either concave can handle freestyle and freeriding, but the avRocker is geared more towards freestyle since the kicks are a bit bigger, and the double concave is geared more towards freeriding
Great ride, dudes! Thanx 4 inspiration! I'm already gettin my NS Concept ready for the new season) feels like 2 more weeks and i will ride again! From Moscow with love. Peace to all
First I am sorry that nobody suggest a smaller board for you. I would suggest the 38" Freeride. The Apex40 is lighter but because it is a top mount board, it will be harder to kick out your slides.
This question is always tough because it really depends on your on personal preference. I tend to like softer wheels so I really like riding with classic freerides or flashbacks. They grip enough for cruising and carving, and slides nicely once you break them in. As for trucks, I ride with Bear Grizzly trucks for some lower speed freeriding. -Lindsay
That is not true, they might have been refering to nose damage from curbing their boards x amount of times. We will have nose guards for sale by the end of the month which will put an end to nose damage. Also we have a 6 month warranty on all of our boards.
In this particular shot those are other Apex 40 protos but there certainly were Apex 37s floating around at that time. We are getting pretty close to done at the moment, just waiting on final flex options and art.
Sounds like you probably DONT have an Original Pintail ; ) The decks we make and load up are geared out to avoid wheelbite first and foremost (top-mounts are really a user tuning issue). Pintails are pretty easy to fix the wheelbite on. Add a riser to your board or go with smaller wheels. Way easier than getting a new deck. If you DO want a new deck, I would check the Pintail 40 or Drop Freeride 41, or maybe look at the Apex 37 / Apex 40.
There are a lot of different opinions on wheels and there are a lot of options. I like Abec 11's in 78a or 81a. Flashbacks are cheap and work well to start out on. Purple Otang stimulus are nice and I tried some fireball beasts and liked those too. Really just try to get some time on as many options as you can to find out what you personally like best.
Are you interested in freestyle / tricks at all? If you are doing more than occasional freestyle tricks / ollies / kickflips etc we would strongly recommend the Apex 40 (with PK noseguards) over the Freeride. It is much much stronger vs. trick oriented abuse. That said, if you aren't doing freestyle / tricks you probably don't need the technology built into the Apex. In that case I would recommend the Freeride.
I love these videos, and I wish I could afford the Apex 40! Thanks to the Original team, you just make me want to get out there and skate. That's the way it should be.
Hey Originial, Is the apex 40 relatively heavy? I want a light board so I can do technical. I'd be riding Paris 180s with Fat Frees. I think that would be a pretty light board. Am I correct?
@watchandlearnLboard thanks and what do you recommend for wheels and trucks? i was thinking bear or Randal and then bustin royce wheels. any suggestions?
Nah man, you just aren't valuing what it is that the board is built for. If you don't care about freestyle the Apex is not for you. If you care about freestyle-freeride, it is and it is worth it, and it's better than the board you would buy cheaper. It does it's best to perform at freeride but the blended freestyle freeride style that you see prevalent on the east coast, midwest and central US is where the Apex excels. There is a difference between overpriced, and not for you / your style.
hey guys, ive been looking into the apex 40 vs. the tan tien, would you consider your board a better alternative to the tan tien, and are there any reasons why original has such a large hater base something to do with problems in the past? from what i can see this board is a pretty sturdy and fun. ive ridden the tan tien before but do you have any shops in nor cal, because every shop ive gone to dosen't carry originals, thanks ! love the music choice in all your vids btw
Those are two very different boards. If all you do is freeride and downhill the 9two5 might be better but if you want to freestyle the Apex40 is better. It all depends on how you want to ride. If your looking at the 9two5 check out our Freeride boards also. They are more stable for downhill than the Apex40.
should o go with the rockerconcave if i am just starting in freestyle but still want the balance for the doubleconcave? Or should i just go with the double concave.
Hey ive been riding your boards for about 3-4 tears now and i can say. There the best! And i was also wondering what wouldbe the best trucks to put in the Apex 40. Im looking to be able to stand up slide really far. I can stand up slide on my Apex 37 with S8's. With bears would it be harder??
Ok i need some help over here. I'm looking to buy the apex 40 double concave, i'm willing to learn how to slide with it. So what is the best setup for sliding regarding wheels and trucks? Should i get wider trucks or smaller ones? Bigger wheels of smaller wheels?
i must know...... what camera do you use to film this and how do you edit it??? p.s. i have this board and abviously its the awsomest thing is the world
Original, I'm not sure which apex to buy, im 5'9 and weigh 145. i'd use it for almost all freestyle like bigspins and shovits and such. 40 37 or 34? and if 40, then which deck? thanks!
If your looking to freestyle mostly than the Apex 37 would be better for your size. The Av rocker 40 has bigger kicks than the Double concave. The Av would be a better choice for The Apex40.
Hey Original, I know what to do if i would like to be sponsored, but my friends and I are wondering that when you do send a tape in (and your pretty good) are you automatically placed on the development team and move up from there, or can you go straight to flow or Jr? Thanks.
Hey Watsupp Original! You are AWESOME, just wanted to ask as well as Jack below if the Loaded Dervish Sama with its orangatang trucks is fine to slide with or is it too large for a 14 year old? Thanks and keep up the great videos!!!
shit man, hmm. I got it second hand so all i know is that its a sector9 scuzer, with very hard wheels. i did a little research but im still unfamiliar with correct words. My biggest question is, do you need to be going fast to slide? Almost like hydroplaning in a car? or do you need to throw out the board like you do with a car when you want to drift? I also need some gloves x)
hey original, i know you will hate me for asking this but i was thinking about getting a loaded tan tien over the apex 40. mostly due to price and weight of the board. i have always been an original rider and have had both versions of the apex 37 and a pintail 40. id hate to stray away from you so is there any way i could compinstate for the weight of the board and also the price is a little steep :/
Hey original, I am about 1,70 meters high and i like to cruise around in the city . But the thing is i have a pintail and i get wheelbites all the time, so which board would be good for me ? Keep up the great work ! greetings from germany :)
im looking for a board that i can really start improving on, i am currently using a pintail and its tons of fun and really good for alot of things but i feel like im at a point where i need to be looking at something that wont fight me as im trying to lean new tricks. The apex 40 seems to be a good fit for me (to do EVRYTHING) but i cant decide if i should get the AV Rocker or the Double concave. Help Please!!
Hey original i have a pintail 40 with stims and paris cos i like to slide but i want to do more technical freeride and i think im gonna get an apex 40 deck but im not sure which one to get. I like the diamond drop because its drop means its amazing for big slides but i want to be doing tricks like varials etc and i was wondering whether the drop would mean it wasnt so good for tricks. So im also looking at the double concave but im not sure it would be as good for slides. Please help!
You can definitely slide with that set up. You probably just need to commit to it! Getting a bit more speed helps (even though it's scary). Make sure most of your weight is on your front foot, and rotate your hips and shoulder. Also, you may want to get yourself a pair of gloves and learn some hands down slides first, sometimes this is easier. -Lindsay
original i like to pull like 40 plus foot speed checks and i also like to do bigspins and things like that which apex 40 concave is better for me by the way i have a freeride 41 rc I like the freeride on it but i wish it was lighter
@Originalskateboards Hey original i got a beast 41 and like it but its just to big for me to do slides. Im 4,10 and way like 95 pounds and am wondering if there is a big difference in weight from the apex 40 to the beast 41 cuz im looking at getting it but thinging it would be just as hard to throw around. thanks, sick vids
Crazy video, this was a massive inspiration for me in my teen years
THats was the best longboard video i've seen: what a terrific editing: storytellein and seemingly continuous slope, and Those guys are Gods!
Are you riding the Apex 40?

I like this edit...
Want more ....
Greetings from Germany...
what type of riding are you looking to do?
Could you let me know your whole set up? Do you know what kind of wheels you're using?
What style of riding do you want to do?
The Apex 40 is seen as heavier because a lot of the boards that you would traditionally match it up with (for tech) are shorter. The board is 40.75 inches long. That being said we did a lot of work to make sure the technical aspects of the board worked with the weight.

Hey, when you purchase the deck, in the "customer comment" ask for hardware.
Sounds like you probably DONT have an Original Pintail ; )

Awesome performance by amazing skateboarders, love it!

I love these videos, and I wish I could afford the Apex 40! Thanks to the Original team, you just make me want to get out there and skate. That's the way it should be.
Hey, the Double concave Apex40 would be your best bet. It locks you in better for freeriding and is also light and great for freestyle.
I loved this vid. I wish I could live in spain with all those boards. Song was awesome tambien
i love the song... i searched it up to listen...i realized it doesn't sound the same without this rad video! B-D
You guys are really talented video makers!!
Barcelona is wonderful city :)
Go Longboard !
Yes you can on the Double concave but to get the full performance of the board, I suggest getting bushing trucks.
are u talking about putting the spring loaded wavecam trucks on one of these decks?
Hey Originial, Is the apex 40 relatively heavy? I want a light board so I can do technical. I'd be riding Paris 180s with Fat Frees. I think that would be a pretty light board. Am I correct?
I want to do some freestyle but mainly freeride wich apex would you recommend ?
Hey, I woud say the Double concave becuase it locks in your foot better for bombing hills.
That video looks good.. What camera did you use?
The Apex40 is a great choice for this.
okay, so, are you guys riding the stock wheels that come with the board or are those harder wheels that are easier to slide with?
It's Called Apollo Throwdown by The Go! Team - this one is the Star Slinger Remix
Awesome video!
@watchandlearnLboard thanks and what do you recommend for wheels and trucks? i was thinking bear or Randal and then bustin royce wheels. any suggestions?
Jumps very well done, very good, you're amazing!!!

awesome video longboarding in barcelona is really awesome
Best longboarding video ever?
does you guys from originals sell boards in Canada or I need to buy it on the internet ? cause I love the apex 40. plz answer ''

It matters how you want to ride. I would suggest going with a bushing truck to get the full freeride potential out of the board.
Send our customer support a link to your videos. After that our team manager will decide what level of sponsorship you will start at.
Is the Apex 40 good for carving at slow and fast speeds? It looks like a really solid board and I'm considering making it my next buy. Please respond

Hey Original, im planning on getting the apex 40, and was wondering what wheels you would suggest between abec 11 flashbacks, and pink 7'Os. THankss

which concavestyle is best for freestyle on the apex 40? avRocker or double concave?
@original - what would be better for freestyle and freeride mostly? The double con or Rocker con?
Board Meeting 2012! Toronto, ON! Brisn Bishop is supposed to be there this year! Can't wait.
Yep it is, Song at the end is Champion Sound by Crystal Fighters. Like for other people's knowledge.
Im new to longboarding and want a pintail 37 but i see all these vids about apex 40s. whats the main difference between them besides deck shape?
The Apex40 is amazing for freestyle and will be fine for your hieght.
Hey original i was wondering what the wheels were on the double concave? Thanks
Hey Watsupp Original! You are AWESOME, just wanted to ask as well as Jack below if the Loaded Dervish Sama with its orangatang trucks is fine to slide with or is it too large for a 14 year old? Thanks and keep up the great videos!!!
Me siento orgulloso de ser de Barcelona!
Is there a difference between a normal longboard and the apex 40?? seems like that the Apex 40 is smaller. Thank you if u reply original :)
shit man, hmm. I got it second hand so all i know is that its a sector9 scuzer, with very hard wheels. i did a little research but im still unfamiliar with correct words. I am thinking of getting into longboarding and my friends do it but i want to do grinds and stuff like in the video so witch bored should i get then?
hey what was the song at the very end when the dude was wildly dancing around the one?
love this video guys!
Hey original,
I am about 1,70 meters high and i like to cruise around in the city . But the thing is
i have a pintail and i get wheelbites all the time, so which board would be good for me ? Keep up the great work !
greetings from germany :)
What do u recommend for the best slide wheels? I need really good ones
When I went to Barcelona I always thought how beautiful the streets are for longboarding :D
im looking for a board that i can really start improving on, i am currently using a pintail and its tons of fun and really good for alot of things but i feel like im at a point where i need to be looking at something that wont fight me as im trying to lean new tricks. The apex 40 seems to be a good fit for me (to do EVRYTHING) but i cant decide if i should get the AV Rocker or the Double concave. Help Please!!
Hey, both are good wheels. A good amount of our riders ride the flash backs at the moment.
What's the difference between the double concave and the diamond drop?
if i order an apex 40 deck from your website, will it come with the screws to screw my trucks on?
Hey original i have a pintail 40 with stims and paris cos i like to slide but i want to do more technical freeride and i think im gonna get an apex 40 deck but im not sure which one to get. I like the diamond drop because its drop means its amazing for big slides but i want to be doing tricks like varials etc and i was wondering whether the drop would mean it wasnt so good for tricks. So im also looking at the double concave but im not sure it would be as good for slides.
Please help!
That is some mad riding!
Hey i have a question which one do i get i like to bomb a little and slide and some tricks but not a ton
aaah i love the new year so many new boards form everyone :D

This is a fucking classic
original i like to pull like 40 plus foot speed checks and i also like to do bigspins and things like that which apex 40 concave is better for me by the way i have a freeride 41 rc I like the freeride on it but i wish it was lighter
Original (and anyone else) please check out my newer longboard vids. Any feedback from anyone would be great. Thanks.
Great vid guys!
anyone know the wheels of those longboards? Are O´tang? I don´t think so, because the ones on the avrocket are red.
Hey original
What is the RED wheel set used in this video?
Hey I'm 5 ft2 and around 100 pounds and I'm looking for freestyle would the double concave be a good choice
@Originalskateboards
Hey original i got a beast 41 and like it but its just to big for me to do slides. Im 4,10 and way like 95 pounds and am wondering if there is a big difference in weight from the apex 40 to the beast 41 cuz im looking at getting it but thinging it would be just as hard to throw around.
thanks, sick vids
Im 5'3 110 pounds would the apex 40 be good for downhill and sliding?
the background at the end was the best part
