Jocko and George Monsoor. George Monsoor is the father of Michael Anthony Monsoor (April 5, 1981 - September 29, 2006), a United States Navy SEAL who was killed during Operation Iraqi Freedom and posthumously awarded the Medal of Honor.[1] He enlisted in the United States Navy in 2001 and graduated from Basic Underwater Demolition/SEAL training BUD/S class 250 in 2004. After further training he was assigned to Delta Platoon, SEAL Team 3.
Delta Platoon was sent to Iraq in April 2006 and assigned to train Iraqi Army soldiers in Ramadi. Over the next five months, Monsoor and his platoon frequently engaged in combat with insurgent forces. On September 29, 2006, an insurgent threw a grenade onto a rooftop where Monsoor and several other SEALs and Iraqi soldiers were positioned. Monsoor quickly smothered the grenade with his body, absorbing the resulting explosion and saving his comrades from serious injury or death. Monsoor died about 30 minutes later from wounds caused by the grenade explosion.
Notice how Monsoor's father continues to use the present tense in reference to Michael. Goes to show that just because someone's gone, doesn't mean they leave us.
You can't get more immortal than Mikey! Dude will live forever in our hearts!
Just because someone is not here any longer, does not mean they never existed. To live, means there is always guaranteed death its part of the cycle -- How you use the time and what lessons you learned is the journey
That's right
I was thinking the same thing.
I’ve listened to so hundreds of hours of jockos podcast but this episode hits different
This is right up there with 160, if you haven't listened go do so now.
Man…I couldn’t agree more. This and 160. Whew!
listen to ep 203 Jason Dunham. His Marine Brothers come on and tell the story of how he did the same thing to save their lives
@@jordandunne5292 I cry every time I listen to the cpl Dunham one. I always go back to it

Incredible acts of valor. So much to learn from this podcast, heavy. Thank you to both of you and a very heartfelt, grateful, and inspiring thank you to Mikey. RIP hero
Thank you both for sharing Mike’s story and keeping his memory alive.
When I saw the title I knew it’d be a powerful one. Thanks for the vunerability sir.
Thank you to the family members that have to live with these sacrifices . It’s an incredible burden for them and an incredible gift to the rest of us. He seems like an awesome Dad! 🇺🇸
Outstanding podcast
Back in the day? Have y’all not been to a sonic drive in?
Can you provide an Amazon link in the description for purchase of the book? This would help generate revenue for the family and be a great help to the cause. Thank you!
Just type the name in Amazon and boom! Lol
This sounds like two fathers talking about the loss of their son in two different worlds. Rest In Peace Michael
Been waiting for this one for a long time, rest in power Michael you won’t be forgotten for what you did for your brothers
This podcast pulls at so many emotional strings. It's amazing to hear Mr. Monsoor talk about his son throughout the highs and lows of his life. Thank you Mr. Monsoor for all the stories about Michael.

“Thanks for raising a son like Mikey, and sharing him with us. We won’t forget him.” Powerful..
🖤
I had to pause the podcast several times just so I could go clear the tears from my eyes. The measure of a person and the impact he made on you all and the others he served with is evident. He’s being rewarded in God’s kingdom for his faithful service.
Amen
Men like this are true heroes. Not actors or singers or other celebrities that people admire. What a special human, thank you for your service.
For sure, average everyday blue collar people are the real tough ones. Most celebrities aren't worth spit
What a blessing that we get to listen to this for free
Jocko love your stuff. Just hoping maybe you will have some USAF SF guys in the future. TACP, CCT and PJs would be interested in hearing some of their experiences. My family has been AF guys mostly so have a soft spot for AF. Thanks. Love you guys!
2:31:04 That was the closest I think I’ve ever seen Jocko come close to tears, besides the podcast with Jonny Kim about losing Ryan Job and Marc Lee on this deployment. Goes to show you the bond they have and that no matter how much time passes on, they’ll forever miss their brothers.
George can tell a great story... awesome 👍🏻
"Greater love hath no man, than he who would lay down his life for his friends."
Rest in power Michael Monsoor. Generations will know of your love and your sacrifice.
Michael Monsoor and Jocko Willink, thank you for your service.
Another great episode like always. Among the many lessons I learn when listening to this podcast, one of my favorites as a young adult is to hear the upbringing of all these amazing individuals. There is no mistake that a lot of these individuals grow up with similar family morales and character. I look forward to raising my future family with some of the amazing things I’ve picked up from hearing on here.
Absolutely loved hearing George talk about how Michael grew up and was raised. Sounds like he did a great job raising an amazing person.
ECHO...My brother....... take care of this man to your left. He is an inspiration, a leader, a Father, a tough guy and all the other cool names and titles you may bestow upon someone. But he is also nursing deep wounds. God bless you guys, the Monsoor's, and all of our veterans out there(2 and 4 legged) without which things would be quite different.
Amen
Just starting, but committed to watching in one sitting right now! Can’t wait to really learn more about a true American hero! Thanks Jocko, I’m sure it was tough!
Now 3:30am, I’ve watched multiple times, different segments several times, an amazing family and an amazing Hero! I’ve never seen Jocko as emotional as this, and understandably so, the description of that split second decision by Michael Monsoor was seemingly his destiny, as a kid always putting his friends and family ahead of himself, and then to give the ultimate sacrifice for your brothers, Wow! September 29 is now etched in my brain, and those of us unfortunates who never knew him will still remember, and thank God that this story is known! R.I.P. Michael, you earned it!
sir you and your wife raised one hell of a man and i pray your whole family keeps the strenght to deal with your loss
Yes, thank you for delivering this special person to us.
The end of this was conversation was tough. Seeing such a rock of a man feel down to his depth. Michael is a true American hero and this was such an amazing listen. Happy Veteran’s day fellas.
Wow, Thank you for sharing this was absolutely powerful hearing this & the bravery these guys have. RIP Michael & the fallen veterans🙏
Great interview with the father of Navy Seal warrior patriot and badass legend Michael Mansoor is a great one, rest in peace, fair winds and following seas Michael Mansoor
All I can say is thank you for everything you have done! Thank you to ALL who have sacrificed! Much respect to all
Watching this on Remembrance day in Canada. Thanks for this Jocko, Echo..Mr. Monsoor..your son is uncommon. God Bless..
The beginning gave me chills..
Im not religious anymore, but how fitting his name is Michael.. the story fits for St. Michael too.
Rest In Peace brother ❤️🇺🇸🦅
Perhaps it’s time to return
I know we’re early on this but happy Veterans Day to you Jocko, Michael and his father and all of those brave men and women who gave our nation their lives and service. We owe you a debt we’ll never be able to pay
Guys, please everyone take your time to report the scammers in the replies to the comments.
We need a Jocko and Dj Shipley pod
DJ Shipley is a bonafide badass. Have you seen the Shawn Ryan show episode with DJ?
@@DabBerDan47210 great operator. Shit husband/father
May god bless you Mr. Monsoor and your family, may he also bless Jocko and his team on this podcast and jockos business. Such a legendary MAN to ever have graced our nation in uniform. More than just a SEAL. Legends like him will never be forgotten esp with veterans day tomorrow. I send my gratitude and thanks to everyone who dawns or have dawned a uniform in defense our way of life in america. As a vet myself im humbled by such amazing MEN and WOMEN who continue to serve. God bless you all. 🙏💯🇺🇸🇺🇸
It’s sad to think that Mr. George Monsoor is so right. Most Americans don’t know, let alone care about guys like Mikey Monsoor. I went on the Internet and tried to look up his book by typing in his name in the search box. He was not even in the top five of the names that came up. None the less, it only took 10 minutes of this podcast for me to decide to go ahead and purchase this book. Thank you for the ultimate sacrifice, Rest In Peace brother.

Fantastic conversation. Michael was the friend we all want in our lives. Thank you for your service and for paying the ultimate sacrifice. Proud Dad!
I remember that day…
The COMMANDER of Task Unit Bruiser interviews the COMMANDER of Michael Monsoor's upbringing.
This Man is a Gem💎!!
Is it any wonder that Michael Monsour was the Man that he was???
May God Bless George Monsour & his Family and let Michael RIP👊

Probably thee most emotional podcast I’ve ever heard.Mikey’s dad such a wonderful man, great father and husband. The man has a real spiritual loving glow to him that captivated me.Absolutely phenomenal jocko thanks for getting Mikey’s ole man on.
This was as real as it gets. My heart goes out to Mr. Monsoor. Knew it would be heavy because of the affection Jocko has always referred to MM with. Thank you for honouring MM with this interview.
Last night I say
MICHEAL please come defend me in battle
I saw Saint Micheal My love an blessings to you
Thank you you Jocko thank you Micheal dad for giving your son to defend this country and others remember Jesus always knows
There at the end my eyes glassed up right there with you. Thank you for sharing such a great man's story.
Seeing somebody like jocko start to tear up is tough
I can understand how even the Medal of Honor and having a war ship named after his son could be a burden on the family..constant media, travel , dealing with Navy officials became draining when really the family would prefer to be left alone
I love these "Medal of Honor" Interviews as they are so important and timeless!!
Would you consider Sal Giunta?!?!
Rip Mikey and Sally Monsoor❤️🙏🏻
I hope Johnny Kim is able to hear this. I’m sure he’d appreciate the celebration of his friends life
He doesn't listen to podcasts, even Jocko's. Either way, no doubt he's thinking of Mikey. The book pretty much tells him everything he already knows, but surely he's glad even more people will know his story.
Years of listening to Jocko and hearing Mike’s name and this brought it home, thank you for the pain and amazing life this beautiful soul lived
Former Navy Divee, I live in Maine and rwmember when rhe ship was being built @ BIW. Watched it leave for sea trials. I'm going to have to buy the book.
A story everyone should hear. An amazing person and family and if I wasn’t already crying hearing Jocko get chocked up put me over the edge
an absolutely inspiring podcast, thank you George, god bless you and your family.
Can't wait to listen to this one. It's got to be hard to do this interview
Hey Jocko and team, not sure if this will ever reach you but was wondering if you could do a podcast with someone who is or was in for SARC or something similar. I'm in the medical field myself and considering trying for a combat medical position. I think the route I'd probably would have to take is HM-ATF.
Anyways, thanks.
Despite what many may say, we are still the good guys. May we always be aware of the protection that keeps America the beacon of hope, liberty and freedom on the Earth.
Emotional podcast, two tough men. This needs to be a movie.
I apologize that I didn't know Mikey's story let alone Rhamadi completely. Jocko does a great job of reading Mike's fathers book. I feel so insignificant for what the teams did and the Marines/Army. I'm completely in debt for the sacrifices they made. The story of Mike Monsoor told by his father is so riveting. I'm speechless and to hear he actually told his father if he was to die there it would be his way. The selfless act of jumping on a grenade to save his boys. I can't do much but I try to help certain companies that sell clothing and other goods that put a spotlight on certain charities. The Til valhalla 22 a day veteran suicides daily, Grunt Style, etc. By wearing the clothing I get asked and I'm able to tell them the background of the company I'm supporting. God Bless Michael Monsoor and he is an Angel
No doubt where Michael got some of his outstanding qualities. George is a hell of a dad, hell of a man. Thanks for sharing the joy and heartache of your son’s too short life. I too was in tears and felt a great sense of loss for the world.
Weep not for the "loss" of such men, but rejoice that such men ever lived. And live lives so as to honor their sacrifice and we will meet again in His Kingdom. To ALL who served, especially those who gave the last full measure,
their families and loved ones, thank you and God bless and keep you.
Rest in Peace Brother LH&R
This is the most beautiful crushing thing I've ever heard. I tried to go to bed listening, but I had to call my dad and my buddy to make sure everything is ok. Dangit, you know, I miss my friends. Bless you all out there that know what I mean. And thanks for the village it took for all this...
You are a brutal man with an awesome heart . . .It give me hope for this world. Thank you.
Man. Thank God for men like Mike.
Holy hell and heavens, what an amazing interview Jocko!!! Mikey's father was an amazing interview to get an insight of who Michael Monsoor really was. I ran through the gamut of emotions listening to this episode. I can see where Mikey received his greatness, his father sounds like the father any kid dreams to have, needs to have. Thanks Jocko
I had the pleasure of serving with Joe in the Marine Corps. A great guy and great family
So powerful, cried my eyes out, God be with you all😪🙏❤️
THANK YOU FOR YOUR SACRIFICE MIKEY. GOD BLESS 🇺🇸
Incredible podcast gentlemen!! God bless the Monsoor family. Michael was a gift from God to all of us.

"... and often, with a mischievous smile."
Uncontestable Hero.
I came here after listening to Frank Turek, a Christian Apologist, referring to Michael Monsoor displaying John 15:13 Greater love has no one than this, that one lay down his life for his friends. I was strucked by Michael’s story that I had to dig a little deeper into his life. George raised Michael to be a wholesome man. Thank you to everyone who served.
finally jocko is doing a mikey podcast. now we can learn the whole story. buy the book its so good.
The rock still there (obviously), with Mike’s 3rd phase helmet sitting on top of the rock alongside Jason Workman’s. All cleaned and shined everyday by the youngest dudes in the class.

St. Michael the Archangel, defend us in battle. Be our defense against the wickedness and snares of the Devil. May God rebuke him, we humbly pray, and do thou, O Prince of the heavenly hosts,
by the power of God, thrust into hell Satan, and all the evil spirits, who prowl about the world seeking the ruin of souls. Amen
Just talking about Mike seems therapeutic for all involved.
That ship is pretty badass too.

This is the story of a life given freely for his teammates, made me cry with pride.
To hear Jocko speak in the beginning you can tell how affected he was by this. Mike a true American hero. My live and prayers for the family. And Jocko Dude has saved my life in more ways than one.
Incredibly moving episode.
Greater love than this no man hath, that a man lay down his life for his friends. John 15:13
St Michael the Archangel, pray for us.
It's an absolute pleasure to listen to Mr.Monsoor talk about Michael! He sounds like he was a great dad. 1:05:28
The intro was vivid, the picture clearly painted.

I really think Michael Monsoor IS the Archangel Michael. Time and space being relative and all.

Listening to that was like therapy man... Hearing Michael's story was kind of cathartic... it brought me back to when I was a kid, my dad would bring me to visit my brother on the air force base when he'd be nearby. They used to share these kinds of stories too. I really miss that. Thanks for posting this, and your podcast in general. I'll definitely be ordering a copy of the book.
It's a bit disconcerting that the Zumwalt Destroyers (DDG-1001, the #2 boat being the USS Michael Monsoor), will end after only 3 units constructed. I hope this doesn't mean that these ships will be Decommissioned early due to no spare parts etc, as Michael Monsoor's name deserves to live on, on a boat that will be around for 20+ years.
