  • I am very close to finding the ideal place to establish my new hut. My primitive tools have been useful for basic necessities and I’ve found several good natural resources along the way. Today in this video I move my camp to a better location and make a primitive shelter. While digging I find that the earth is hard with clay and I start to think about making mud bricks. Then my patience is tested as I struggle to make a friction fire which is so important in order for me to stay warm through the night. This series will be ongoing so be sure to stay tuned for the next video.

    FAQ (Frequently Asked Questions):
    Who films you?
Me. I travel alone, shoot, edit, upload, everything, all alone. On a few occasions I may be accompanied by a friend.
How many cameras do you use?
Usually I use just one camera. When I have underwater scenes then I also use a GoPro camera. I get different angles by moving the camera around and repeating the action to create a more cinematic viewing experience for the audience.
    Where is this place?
In order to protect the integrity of the natural landscape I prefer to be very vague about the locations I use. There are places that I used to visit that were so beautiful and untouched but the consequences of social media brought all kinds of people to visit and sadly some people do not respect nature and have badly damaged these places. Therefore I do not share locations.
Where did you get your sandals?
I first started wearing sandals on outdoor adventures in February 2014. I’m so glad that I did because wearing these Luna Sandals has really helped strengthen my feet. You can see their selection of adventure and running sandals at this link: www.lunasandals.com/?rfsn=102...
(Note: I receive an affiliate commission from any sales derived from clicking on the link above)
    Do you workout?
Yes, I workout, but not in a gym. I have some weights that I use and also do a lot of bodyweight exercises. I also run and sometimes swim. I hike frequently to collect wild foods and to shoot these videos so I'm very active all the time.
    Are you vegan or vegetarian?
I wish I could maintain my health on a primal diet that does not include animals but unfortunately that did not work well and I ended up with health problems as a result of those attempts. From my studies, observations of nature, and personal experience I have come to believe that the best diet for optimal human health is a primal diet (paleo).
Do you get lonely when you’re alone?
No, I don’t get lonely. I’m actually so busy shooting video, taking photos and doing so many other things like making cordage, cooking, weaving, etc. that I really don’t have time to think about my lonely condition. Sometimes when something profound happens on an adventure I can’t wait to share it with people, but other than that I do not get lonely.
How many languages do you speak?
My first language is English but I also speak fluent Spanish and Portuguese. I also speak very little Russian. I may soon begin learning more languages.
    How old are you?
I was born in 1972. At the time of this video I was 48.
Where did you get the music in your videos?
This series is the first one that I am making all the music myself. I recently made a drum and maracas (rumba shaker). I am now using them to create the intro and ending music in my videos, but before in the past I have used royalty free music from several sources including UA-cam. Sometimes I bought the music but usually it was free.

To a certain point, yes. Less is more... The problem with material possessions is that they require our attention, they require management. If your house is big and full of belongings then it requires more cleaning and organizing. One thing I always disliked was organizing stuff that I didn't even need. That's when "stuff" takes over your time, and your time is your life. If your only possessions are things that are truly useful to you then you will find that you have much more free time to do the things you want and the things that are truly important.

These are ideas deep in human psyche and philosophically based as well. More is less and less is more. As Tyler Durden says in fight club.... The things you own end up owning you. Only until you lose everything is when you'll be free to do anything.

A lot of us outdoorsman, hunting, an fishing types understand how hard fire can be to come bye! Things seem to slow way down in the wilderness! When I first learned the hand drill fire I used yucca stalks as the spindle and hearth board I had collected during a trip in Colorado, I noticed that I had a hard time creating producing embers with a spindle I had used before, I soon realized it was because the end of the spindle was charred during previous attempts the heat produced during the drilling process exposes the top of the spindle to heat that hardens it making it difficult since a low density softwood is the only viable option, for me simply scraping away the charred end on a rock to reveal a new soft spindle tip helped tremendously, not sure if this tip will help but i found it to be very useful

    • @ChadZuberAdventures
      @ChadZuberAdventures  3 роки тому +13

That seems really crucial. After he scrapes the stick on the rock, it still makes a really creaky sound. I think he didn't scrape enough, or rather on the right rock either. The rocks behind look much more abrasive and would remove more charred stick. Seen at 15:27

Hey Chad, your hair is getting long! To keep cooler in the coming summer I suggest you plait it then wrap it like a 18th C queue. Maybe make some wide flat five/six part plaits out of yucca fibre for the wrappings. It's so much more comfortable to have your hair off your skin when it's really hot (I have hip length hair). There's a special way to secure plaits with cord/ribbon so it won't slip out, if you google medieval ribbon plait fastening you'd find it.
I hope you make (have already made?) your new hut near that river, there's probably clay around the riverbed if it's in the region, it collects in the bends especially during flooding. Really looking forward to seeing what you do.

A journey is full of Challenge and hardship but what makes the effort worth it
is the simple but oh so satisfying results of that effort. To make manifest out of the world
and the mind of the person doing it. The work, The effort and even the failure to produce
success and forge out that from the raw world the dreams that are otherwise impossible.
I am so happy to able to go on the journey and support the Primal Tendencies.
