As weird as this show was, it had some amazing elements that deserve more recognition: 1. The character designs and art style for the characters are incredible. This show has the best looks for MJ and Peter in any show thus far, and not only is the Unlimited suit awesome, but the way the classic suit looks in this show is the best it has ever looked in 2D animation. 2. The rest of the show isn’t all that great, but the opening episode with their talk is one of my favorite Spidey media moments ever. It perfectly captures their characters and personal struggles together with just that scene alone. 3. The music (not just the theme, but the background tracks as well) is freaking awesome. You won’t see this but one thing I remember being one of a reason it was cancelled was it’s time slot. Back then it was given the 11:30 or 11:00am time slot on Saturday. Which means if there was a sporting event going on, or anything really, it would be taken over by said event. I remember waiting a week just to watch it only to find it’s been replaced by a golf or sport event. The 11:00 time slot is the last hour of animation back then. But also a dead zone as many kids would of probably left the house by then.
Very true. I remember during the 90s once 11 am rolled around every Saturday, I was out of the house for the rest of the day, because the block of morning cartoons was over by 10 or 10:30, depending on the network.
What's scary is that in ep 2 Venom tried to forcefully make Spider-Man become part of himself, which would have made Peter dependent on the symbiote and unable to live without it just like Brock was in ep 11 if he didn't escape.
It saddens me so much, because I absolutely loved it as a kid and even though a lot of people say the story was a bit wonky, I as a kid didn’t care. I loved the story, the visuals, the futuristic aspect, I loved it all. I’m still sad to this day that it just ended on a cliffhanger
Agreed. This show is already seen as a rip-off of Batman Beyond, so they might as well have just done it. It's crazy to me that they made something so similar after ditching the original idea for being too similar.
If I was a millionaire one of the first things I would do is get a way for Season 2 of this show to be created. I loved this show so much growing up and it being left unfinished makes me feel so incomplete.
I loved Spider Man unlimited and I was so eager on finding out what happened after that cliffhanger. I always thought I missed the episode that came after it!
Metal Mario in the animated Spider-Man show, there was the Secret Wars. These wars consisted of a hero vs villain type war on an alien planet in a different universe. BEST SHOW EVER.
I remember liking it when I as a kid. Also looking back on it, it was part of an era of heavy black shadow, almost cell shaded, looking animation, and then a lot of other fairly unique animation designs around that time period. Not sure what spurred that other than maybe just shared zeitgeist but its always stuck with me
This show will always mean a lot to me. I still remember when I was a kid, my mom would let me watch tv after doing homework and this was the show I'd always watch. Nostalgia is such a comforting feeling
It’s so fascinating to revisit projects like this. Spider-Man Unlimited was an amazing cartoon and I will never forget the incredible rhythm of the theme song, or the mystery of Counter Earth, or the beastieals, or the dramatic themes set around episodes like the one featuring Git the guy wrapped in bandages and the bomb that he was carrying, and the story about Venom where Spidey donned the black suit again. Those are two of my favorite episodes. It really had a lot of potential as a series and truthfully it is a huge shame that it ended on a cliffhanger. It’s nice to see that there are still people who remember the series fondly. I love your channel so much and all the work you put into each presentation!
I remember Spiderman Unlimited. I loved it so much. The plot twists and character stories were so amazing. It's a shame it ended before The Symbiote Wars storyline would've started.
Great vid, Owen! It's cool how Saban not being allowed to use traditional Spidey elements forced them to go in a weirder direction and I think Unlimited has some novel things to say about Spider-Man. Also, I absolutely LOVE the art style.
So nice to see other fans of Unlimited! I loved it; it was a really unique take on Spidey and the visuals, music, voice acting and action scenes were all amazing, not to mention the spectacular suit design. I recently read the script for Destiny Unleashed Part II and am now even more annoyed we had to settle with the cliffhanger...
Thank you for making a video on this underrated series. I love this series as kid and rewatched as an adult it still holds up as its own adaption/universe.
Thank you so much for both bringing attention to this underrated show and linking us to those plans for the remaining episodes. That...honestly gives a weird sort of closure for me, and hopefully others, since now we have a good idea of where it was all heading.
Still one of my favorites, the 90's spiderman and like late 90's early 00's Tmnt were both so hype when I was a kid! Ah good ole Saturday morning cartoons
Thank you for paying a tribute to this amazing show. it has aged so well. There was another one after this which show one of electro's coolest looks in an animated series which was then used in the Amazing Spiderman 2
It's always crazy how with restrictions like not being able to adapt certain stories or not being able to use certain character we can get some really cool and unique takes on classic characters while keeping stuff we liked. It's just a shame this show didn't take off
I remember seeing reruns of the show very very late at night. When I was younger (maybe 8-9) I was at grandma's house, and i stayed up late watching tv. I ended up seeing the first episode of the series thinking it was a continuation of the other show. The cliffhanger the first episode gives, gave my young mind all kinds of what the hell are they going to do to him? The first violent movie I ever saw was starship troopers, and after seeing that movie, it had made my still young mind reflect on that ending and know what was going on.
I watched this series all the way through a couple years ago and really liked it. The concept is cool, it has a nice art style and aesthetic, and Spider-Man's costume in it is awesome. It really should be more well known and I would love to see it get a continuation in some form.
This is one of the more interesting animated shows to me. I do find it a shame that it was cancelled. The Counter-Earth villains are a highlight of the series for me. Green Goblin, Vulture, Kraven & Electro. I just really dig the new designs of those characters.
Bro you have no idea I thought I was the only one who saw and loved this show. It was just so unique with the new suit, the new set of powers and villains and I just couldn't stop watching when I was a kid.
I watched this as a kid but not during it's run but actually through streaming, as I grew up on the mtv series, and when I watched unlimited, I had no knowledge of a predecessor series, but I still remember unlimited being weird, yet interesting, but ultimately it didn't feel much like spiderman to me and I think that the sacrifices they had to make to make this show made it lose some of what makes spiderman spiderman
God, this was nostalgic for me. I was about 12 when this started showing on disneyxd I think, and fell in love. I never thought to really look up what happened to it as I never did finish it. I’m 19 and I’m really excited to connect with another lost piece of my childhood.
Jetix aired reruns of Spiderman Unlimited in mid 2008 at midnight and sometimes in the early morning . These reruns , along with all the other marvel animated series’ were no longer aired when Jetix became Disney XD . Good times
my god thank you so much for making this, the show was my childhood and my favourite spider-man suit. I have been looking for a good video on it for so long
Oh boy I remember Spider-man unlimited wasn't a good show and try to be an Batman beyond and Unlimited didn't get a second season. At least it had a decent opening theme.
lol tried to be Batman Beyond? I'm sorry, was Batman Beyond a previously exuding series? no, it wasn't. if we're calling anything a ripoff, Batman Beyond is a ripoff of Spider-Man 2099. the new costume is clearly inspired by Spider-Man 2099, while Batman Beyond looks like one of Kenner's many gimmicky cash grab Batman action figures.
Nah man beyond was amazing but in my opinion unlimited was better it really tried to be as close to original spider-man as it could without copying its predecessor show I loved this as a kid and still love it now honestly if it weren't for fox kids chasing Pokémon so hard it might be remembered as a cult classic
@@Slyarno2795 because I don't have to follow your arbitrary rules and I can say whatever I want. You made an incorrect statement and I called you out on it. You can't even disprove me. Spider-Man Unlimited was trying to be Batman Beyond? that's laughable. Spider-Man Unlimited was based on Spider-Man 2099, which existed before Batman Beyond. He literally says the only reason they canceled the direct adaptation of Spider-Man 2099 was because of Batman Beyond. So basically, cuz of people like you 🤣
The only part of this show I really enjoyed was the opening and the first few minutes of the first episode because I thought his classic suit was really cool.
Remembered watching every single episode on youtube back in 2007. Was searching for spider tas full episode and stumbled on this series. Then ended up falling in love with it
I'm currently watching it on Disney+ and it's a good show. It's very much a different take but the characters are likeable and the designs definitely are very EXTREME 90s comics inspired with touches of Liefeld and McFarlane. While it does look very dated compared to the sleek minimalism of Batman Beyond I do find it really enjoyable. The movies seem to have hindered many Marvel projects as Earths Mightiest Heroes seemed to end for that dreadful Avengers Assemble. I'm glad these days we can have everything we like. There have been great Marvel shows in the past number of years and the Pokemon style stuff still goes on. Fox Kids and Jetix are long gone however.
I think it was really cool to see the character of Spider-Man being himself and undergoing a lot of the same struggles but in a new place with new issues to deal with. It's something we don't often get as people are very obsessed with the idea of the classic or traditional, rarely straying too far from the iconic way of doing things
I wasn’t even a 90’s kid but I grow up watching this on toon Disney. Its consistent reruns is probably why the later Spider-Man cartoons get forgotten, sadly.
I wish I could forget about this show...I’ve wanted to resolve this cliffhanger almost my entire life I hope you help me by the end of this video, but I doubt I’ll ever know 😭
Thanks for checking out the video, Robert! You did a great job on the season that aired and I'd love to hear more about what you had planned for the second season.
@@OwenLikesComics I wish I could tell you more, but most of my memory centers around the time I hung out with co-writer and show runner Larry Brody, and less about the show itself. Brody may have saved all that material, but all my stuff is either in a box hidden somewhere in my garage or long gone. I don't even have a DVD of the first season. Brody and I also worked on another show together called DIABOLIK, based on the famed Italian comic book. Sorry my memory isn't better.
Really loved Spider-Man Unlimited. Just coming off of the Spider-Man: TAS so it filled that need. Also, it was part of a line up of Fox Kids shows that seemed pretty cool, like Cyber Six, Escaflowne, and Beast Machines. But then it (along with a ton of the other cool shows) tanked in the ratings and were replaced with Digimon. Ugh!
Two comments: One, imagine having to make a top-notch spider-man show without the staple cast! Holy crap, they did an amazing job given those constraints, I think most teams would have failed miserably. Two, I actually liked the unlimited spin off better: it managed to touch on social commentary on race, poverty and exclusion in a very clever and subtle way, much like x man has done for many decades. The acting and the animation is good, and I still kick a laugh with the good humor of the main character.
Yeah every other Spider-Man show is constanly going with the origin story. This show just threw you straight in and I loved it for that. I'm sick of seeing uncle Ben die.
I used to love this as a kid not as another peter Parker story but as spiderman in another universe story, very different from the traditional series and had it's own charm, hope shows like this come again
Wow, those sony terms just made me realize that's why we don't see Gwen, Harry, and Mary Jane in the MCU films. That's some bullshit man. We got the best portrayed high-school Pete, but we don't get Gwen or Harry 😔. That also tells me we won't get to see Green Goblin in these films. At least we got all those characters in the PS4 game. But we still don't get the F4 or any of the other super heroes from NY in that game 😭.

Great vid, Owen! It's cool how Saban not being allowed to use traditional Spidey elements forced them to go in a weirder direction and I think Unlimited has some novel things to say about Spider-Man. Also, I absolutely LOVE the art style.
Oh agreed, easily the best thing about Unlimited is the art style. I'd probably even say I prefer the look of the show to the 1994 series, honestly.
I remember it as a 90s kid.. It had a whole different feel to it which was good. Plus the animation was on point with a good plot.. 🔥🔥
I love this show, the suit looked really cool with that lighting, and the alternate world was an interesting concept.Wish we got more
Ah the 90's. When a cartoon series had no resolution. It just had an abrupt ending
I was going to question that. Then I thought about it, and I was surprised by how true it actually was.
Can't wait for you to cover Spectacular Spider-Man.
They should have just done a Spider-Man 2099 series. What we got was a sort of Batman Beyond type show anyway.
Please Disney if you're watching this bring back Spiderman Unlimited! The show needs closure!
I would cry if it came back
You are the first person I have heard talk about this show, and actually give some idea of what the conclusion was supposed to be. So thank you.
This Spider-Man Show is the most underrated show ever
I loved this show as a kid. I’ve always been a huge sci-fi fan and a Spiderman fan, so having both in one show was literally perfect
.....literally NOONE forgot about this amazing show!
....I did
jack couch same here
A lot of people did?
@@rivers5628.....i know? i was being stupid for comedic purposes, and using literally the way that idiots do, IE instead of "figuratively".
Been watching your videos for a couple of days but I can safely say your one of my favorite comic book UA-camrs
Thank you so much, I really appreciate that!
This show pissed me off because it was cut off in a cliff hanger
The animation is BLOODY FANTASTIC!!! Look at the colors and the lighting and how Spider-Man himself contrasts to the city colors. It’s great.
I remember both
I absolutely love Spider-Man Unlimited. I'm happy to see other people remembering it, acknowledging it and appreciating it.
Really did like this show.
Really weird, but I really wished that it didn't get canceled so soon.
Thank you so much for making this video. There is no love online for my favorite Marvel cartoon.
Peter: spider man doesn’t wear a cape
Spider-man Unlimited: NOPE!
Spider-man Unlimited and the CGI show were actually my introductions to the character and in fact Unlimited has been one of my favorites for years!
I liked this one. They could do a mini series return like samurai Jack. At least to finish the plot it had set up.
They need to proper finish the Spiderman TAS's tangling ending too. Get Peter Parker and Mary Jane to reunion again.
@@christiannaegele562 that was suspose to have 1 more season
Out of all the Spider-man cartoons, Spectacular Spider-man would be the most likely to get a more conclusive final season.
Jetix aired reruns of Spiderman Unlimited in mid 2008 at midnight and sometimes in the early morning . These reruns , along with all the other marvel animated series’ were no longer aired when Jetix became Disney XD . Good times
I always loved venoms and carnages design in the show.
my god thank you so much for making this, the show was my childhood and my favourite spider-man suit.
@@michellelincoln9987 Okay if you're gonna be acting like an asshole towards me then why comment to me.
So basically, cuz of people like you 🤣
@@Slyarno2795 now watch you cherry pick my comment and create your own narrative completely removed from anything I actually said
this oughtta be good
I was born in the late 2010s and yet I was able to watch unlimited because it was on netflix
Wait what? If you are born in late 2010s then you are 5 years old at most
The only part of this show I really enjoyed was the opening and the first few minutes of the first episode because I thought his classic suit was really cool.
Remembered watching every single episode on youtube back in 2007. Was searching for spider tas full episode and stumbled on this series. Then ended up falling in love with it
This the most underrated show ever
I always loved this series, and I am really glad that I have it on DVD, so I can watch it atleast once a year
i actually liked it a lot as a kid and i still do
Heck yeah I’ve been waiting for this!
Spider-Man TNAS is also forgotten. Definitely in top 3 best spidey shows
This show was ahead of it’s time & the themes & motives were just too deep. People weren’t ready
I watched up through Kraven’s episode. Still can’t figure out how Venom and Carnage got along.
They gay.
@@tripwire4727 acceptable answer
I wasn’t even a 90’s kid but I grow up watching this on toon Disney. Its consistent reruns is probably why the later Spider-Man cartoons get forgotten, sadly.
I wish I could forget about this show...I’ve wanted to resolve this cliffhanger almost my entire life
I hope you help me by the end of this video, but I doubt I’ll ever know 😭
I stand corrected-ish
Thank you 🙏🏻😭
This show had the same voice actor as Spider-Man 2000 video game. That’s why I love it.
I wrote several episodes of this show, including the six that were never produced or aired.
Thanks for checking out the video, Robert! You did a great job on the season that aired and I'd love to hear more about what you had planned for the second season.
Any possible way spider-man unlimited could come back!
@@bbyjose8126 I'm afraid that ship has sailed.
I always loved unlimited, especially the art style with the crazy colors. The fact that it strayed away from the norm is what made it so unique.
I've wondered the same thing. just for the sake of seeing something different and original but alas that's not what the gen-pop ever wants
Ugh!
Spider-Man unlimited was my childhood even though there weren’t a lot of episodes. It is to this day my favorite Spider-Man show.
The acting and the animation is good, and I still kick a laugh with the good humor of the main character.
truth hahah
I need them to bring this costume back since it's raw af.
I wished it continued because it was so unique. Now these days, it's kind of boring with the direction they are going.
