I have a 2016 LT Cruze, with the 6 speed manual, and I absolutely love this car, Chevy gave all kinds of discounts and perks when I bought it, the fuel economy was even better then they suggest on the highway, I was almost getting 50 mpg consistently, so far no complaints about this car, love it, great review
I have a 2014 Chevy cruze Lt and I don't know why when people see these cars on the road they are laughing and pointing. I feel people should respect everyone's decision. People drive the car they like. I love my Chevy.
I don't know how, but the engine is so well tuned and the small turbo doesn't come in, ever, until you really need it. Mine too sips gas. Interior materials are shoddy though lol
I also have a 2016 Cruze LT but mines in automatic I wish I could say I get that many MPG but I got a bit of a heavy foot cause I enjoy feeling the power it was so much better than when I was learning how to drive with my mothers 2012 Nissan Sentra
I just bought the Cruz Lt1 with RS package and convenience package! I love it, it's everything I wanted and priced just right! Drives quiet and smooth!
Cruze always has competed better against the others. The new interior 2 tone is great. I have a 2014 LT/RS with Z link rear suspension, it gets 37 mpg,now does 40, smooth, quick acceleration with the turbo, 6 sp, paddle/ or auto., quite refined . Compared with prior offerings it is in every small detail upgraded significantly.
I think it is a nice car. The reliability is the question, but I think it is a more attractive package than the Corolla or Sentra. The Mazda 3 is a great drive but interior feels like crap, but the Civic turbo is the car to beat. Whichever you get, I don't think you'll be disappointed. Compact cars have come a long from from punishing econo-boxes into genuinely nice cars.
I honestly like the interior. Its out of the norm which is just my taste. Why I don't really do many American Cars because they tend to loose value too quickly, I really think with a little more cost prioritization the car would have been good. The rear suspension should be independent. A complex turbocharged engine is not needed. It actually does the car bad. The tail lights look somewhat outdated. It reminds me of the 06 VW Jetta. The front is up to date. I honestly can say GM has done okay here. I would advise to buy it used and not new but its a buy in my opinion.
I've driven the New Cruze , Civic and Corolla and hands down the Cruze is the best out of the 3, handles nice, quite and nice ride.. plenty of power for a 1.4 Turbo...
It is class leading...in sales. No compact sells as much as the Corolla. It certainly isn't class leading, but since it still sells like hotcakes it must be doing something right.
@@jeffcharlton9660 my comment was made two years ago which then the Corolla was little more than a transportation tool - the new TNGA based Corolla is now better than ever.
Now, which is better, a loaded chevy Cruze or a middle of the run Buick Verano? Both are close in equipment and price if I'm not mistaken, although the buick as a 4 year base warranty instead of 3.
I have a Cruze and I absolutely love it. Maybe it’s cause it’s my first modern car but man! There’s so much to love. The ride is so smooth and quiet and relaxing! The acceleration is so good compared to my old car. I love the tech and for my car, the interior is amazing and looks better than the “upgrade” that I believe will one day look extremely aged. Overall, hands down love my Cruze. Will keep that car till I die if I can.
I have a 2014 Cruze 2 LT, Loaded with leather. Only missing as it is a step under the RS package, IS the fog lights and rear spoiler and sun roof. 78 thousand miles. It is a very nice car and I am happy with it for the most part. Not a fan of the Turbo lag and I really wish Chevy would have given the car more power than what it has. I like my style compared to the new ones. But all and all I am hapy with it.
Thought I heard of a new1.6 diesel any word on it or is the diesel dead? I've got a jeep and a f150 4x4s and am looking for a fuel mizer for three season use.
+Pimpin' Sidewayz Just imagine the same car with cloth seats, crappy steel wheels with hubcaps or maybe 16" alloys and no nav. Or upgraded stereo. Or power seats. Or keyless start. Or Watts link suspension. Or blind spot monitoring. Or parking sensors. :)

Hey TFL, I was wondering if you guys could maybe elaborate more on the steering feel that keeps being brought up. I currently drive an older car with Hydraulic Power Assist steering, and I occasionally drive my gf's car which is newer with electric steering. The only real difference I can tell *granted im no professional driver* is that my car feels like I need to put more of a dedicated effort in making my car go the direction I want it to, but with the electric I just turn and it goes. I never really feel like I can tell more or less which car is going to go where I want it to, each feels pretty responsive and precise for the most part. Is the steering feel more of a sensation of literally feeling the "road"? Like the bumps or the friction of the tires? Or is it more just resistance when you turn the wheel? This may sound like a dumb question, but I've found myself usually pondering if what I'm feeling when I drive is what you guys are talking about. Thanks for taking the time to read this!
If you're doing an acceleration run, turn off the stability control. It lets you rev to 2500 with the brake applied, where the power is, instead of 1500, where the power isnt.
For all you Civic fanboys, please stop comparing this Cruze to the Civic. The Civic and the Cruze are sort of in a different level. Yes they are compact sedans but the Civic has more sportiness than the Cruze. The Cruze doesn't and will have include any sportiness. It was made for an economy car, nothing more. Got it, good! I don't see how they managed the passenger front airbag with that leather covering, they really hid it well, I like it, how many interior color options are there?
Looks great both outside and inside (the new Malibu should have this front end). But that solid rear axle? Jeez, that is some ancient technology right there.
With that cabin room, not sure if it can catch up Civic or Corolla. (Especially rear legroom). Cruze's design is not bad but Civic still seems much better (More outstanding from others) and less messy feeling with good balance.

It looks good, but the only thing I'd worry about is the reliability. For about the same price after incentives, I would rather have a Chevy Volt. At least the gasoline engine on the Chevy Volt would be reasonably trouble free, since most of the miles would be on the electric motors, and electric motors have less to go wrong with them.
The new Cruze models are at the dealers now; fire sale on the remaining older models (both are "2016" models). Finding a manny in either variant is not easy. I will wait to see the hatch version.
It's nice! I still liked the old Cruze funnily enough, but this is a nice replacement. I'm not crazy about the back (on the sedan, it looks better on the hatch).. something just seems off about it, but the (premium) interior looks great and the front fascia are well executed. This is the top of the line model though, so lower trims won't necessarily look quite as nice. That's why I like Mazda, whether you get a base model or top model, the cars all look really nice while most other companies, lower trims sometimes look a little dorky when you take away some of the design elements.
If the tank is nearly full and gets up to 40mpgs, surely you should have way more than a 262 mile range before your next fill up. Is it true that new cars need to be broken in and calibrated so that the computer can accurately reflect your fuel range?!
I can do without trick gauges that zip around full scale for no reason. Likewise, lights and horns that blink and honk whenever you sneeze with your hand on the key fob.
The Civic and Corolla are pretty low targets. When did small cars become so boring? The Mazda 3 is the only exciting small car without moving up to the big turbos of the GTI and Focus ST. Corollas are on the low-tier imo. I think even the current Jetta tops it in terms of value and specs. The only thing I would pick a Corolla over would be the ancient Mitsubishi Lancer.LOOOL
The only reason for that is because people who rent or lease cars pick Corolla. Civics get rented to but only a few companies supply them like ZipCar or Hertz. If you're going to a rental lot to rent a car for a week, you'll almost certainly see a Corolla available and nothing else except maybe an Elantra or Focus.
I have a Cruze and it’s my first car I love the power though to bad I didn’t get the most recent model because Chevy confirmed they are no longer making the Cruze anymore meaning the last model year might hold their value more
I drove Chev for years, and now this is my second Honda, and the first, had over 600K on it, and it still runs! I just sold it for the new 2016 Civic. Great reliable car Honda makes!! My last Chev had 143 K, and had 4 ball joints go, wheel bearing, and countless other issues with it....never again, will I buy a Chev or Ford for that matter! They are trying to compete with Honda, not the other way around! Cheers!
It's not meant to be a very quick car, but it is fun to drive. It stays flat on tight corners and has plenty of torque left to pass quickly at highway speeds. There's a diesel option coming soon that will be quite a bit faster, if the previous gen's diesel is any indication. I'm not disagreeing that they should make a 2.0T SS, however. Make it AWD and I will trade my wife's in IMMEDIATELY!
Come on Roman, the back seat is hell as tight compare to the Civic> Your knee and body languages said it all. I had driven a 2014 Cruze with the same 1.4 L Turbo and was not very impress when you need power to merge or pass. My regular civic 1.8 L Auto does the same job without turbo. LOL
He was also well over 6 ft tall...I sat in one at 6.0 and 280lbs and fit quite nice...yea some of the Japanese cars have it beat and VW Jetta have it beat but it's bigger then the Mazda 3 Ford Focus hell even the mid size ford fusion which are all cars people go on and on about
+chickenfarm09 No its not nor is it a Hyundai elentra back seat (2016 what I currently drive) however it's close to the civic it's wildly bigger then the focus it's bigger then the dart bigger then the Mazda 3 and the Mitsubishi Lancer. it's a middle player in back seat room hardly a GM fail...The cobalt an epic fail even 1st Gen cruze way too small but this car is significantly better and remember this is the compact class and it is a car that starts around $18,000...and it's bigger then some mid size cars

extreme poop I think it would be a very good first car for first time buyers, for me I like the new midnight edition Impala LTZ... I'm a big guy so the space, power, and equipment level in the Impala hits the sweet spot.
+keri “KJ” ellerbe I definitely agree on the point you've made, it's a good car for first time buyers but like I said man, for that price, even a first time car buyer can get something that could most likely fit their needs more, the base car is more reasonable imo
This looks better then my 2014 Ford Focus SE Hatchback. I'm turning it in early of the lease because the transmission is SHIT. So I'm looking into maybe getting a Cruze. My friend has a 2014 Cruze LT with over 50,000 miles and has had no problems at all.
+Robert Schneider I moved from a 2012 Focus to a 2014 Mazda3 because the transmission was so shit. I would definitely check out the Mazda, I've had 26K miles of absolutely no problems and it drives even better than the Focus.

If you're going to a rental lot to rent a car for a week, you'll almost certainly see a Corolla available and nothing else except maybe an Elantra or Focus.
Oh wow I was initially shocked when I first saw it
managed to get 55mpg with my Cruze on the highway
I have a Cruze and it’s my first car I love the power though to bad I didn’t get the most recent model because Chevy confirmed they are no longer making the Cruze anymore meaning the last model year might hold their value more
How can Chevy make a $28,000 compact without independent rear end
If Chevrolet's reliability wasn't absolute garbage compared to the Civic or even the Elantra, I'd love this car.
Cheers!
The cruze is the most reliable car in 2017 according to consumer reports .
Been waiting for this review
torsion rear beam suspension on lower trims to save $10 according to GM engineers. GMs old ways are stil alive
+Blake Swan The extra long wheelbase delivers a great ride making your biased opinion meaningless.
colderbeer so you blow GM on the regular? Makes sense
Looks nice than first Cruze. but Malibu and Fusion are more better.because large trunk space and more room.
Stated in the beginning there was a new motor Its the same engine it was before.. They reallycouldn't do a 1.6 or 1.8 turbo?
This motor puts out about 20 hp more than the old one.
big deal.. they just upped the boost a bit. this car won't be shit til they release maybe an SS version with the 2.0 turbo motor from the Regal.
Not a fan of rear axle vs independent suspension
This guy shouldn't do 50mph on a residential area with a 30mph speed limit, a little irresponsible there...
And brand spaking Cruze abuse. You nailed it Roman! :-)
LOL
How many seconds 0-62 M/h please,and sealevel ?
Thanks folks!!
A friend of mine just bought this car and it looks great, except the wheels are too small and make the car look neutered.
Damn 28k ? Yes I know about no one paying MSRP, but still I'd rather get a bigger car with that price like a camry base or an accord base.
+The Fast Lane Car Roman, all due respect, that back seat was too tight even for a five minute ride.
+icecreamania I thought they were going to need a can opener to get him in there.
+icecreamania Yes that back seat is very disappointing. Probably one of the worst that I've seen. Cost cutting from GM once again.
He was also well over 6 ft tall...I sat in one at 6.0 and 280lbs and fit quite nice...yea some of the Japanese cars have it beat and VW Jetta have it beat but it's bigger then the Mazda 3 Ford Focus hell even the mid size ford fusion which are all cars people go on and on about
Wayne June This is not even close to a Nissan Versa back seat. And you don't have to pay $29k
Chevrolet retired from Europe. And thats a shame. New Cruze looks great.
Manual coming to more civics soon! Can't wait to buy one.
+Richard Severson Pardon?
+Automatic_JP lel
+joseph bellucci Honda car from the American workers? The fact is that Honda is a Japanese car company. No matter where it is built, no matter who make it, the money will come to Asia. Thank you.
+flunk77 it's not just only in Canada though.
I wish chevy came out with a nice sport compact... like the first gen z24 cavi
28,000 it better come equipped with a happy ending.
Looks nice. Would not go with this trim. Wait for hatchback as it's better for my lifestyle.
Yeah I don't like the way he sounded. It was like he was bashing Honda just bcuz of the CVT.BTW roman Honda will release a manual next year to go along with the turbo.
For the price you might as well just go with the focus st or something instead of wasting the money
Well some people prefer the Cruze, if it fits their taste then I don't see how it would be wasting money.
+keri “KJ” ellerbe totally get it man, but I can't see anyone really spending that much money for a compact that doesn't even come with much when there are other cars that are a better car for the price, like come on not even a hp boost is kinda sad
extreme poop I think it would be a very good first car for first time buyers, for me I like the new midnight edition Impala LTZ...
+Austin Vosburgh I'll look into it.
+Robert Schneider
50,000 miles is nothing
Well he only had it for 2 years so far. I'm just saying its much better then the car i'm in now.
