i'm not gainsaying anything but would you believe that its a big thing in Indonesia (at least) partaking cuppa 'kopi luwak' aka civet coffee, which have been eaten and defecated by the Asian palm civet. yeah parallels to the elephant turd thingy, its a thing but surely NOT pricey 😂
there is a small animal - I believe somewhere in South America - that does naturally eat coffee beans and poops them out. and for many people around the world it's a costly delicacy..sorry, I don't recall the name of the animal of tthe coffee but at least it's not force fed. I can't stand that elephants are being exploited in yet another way. they're such amazing, beautiful beings and deserve to be respected, loved & protected.

56 and thinking the same. When I was pregnant with my youngest the coffee machine ended up outside. Lol I live in Canada. My ex didn’t like that I did that but as you know morning sickness is 24/7 lol so he started drinking upstairs with our tenant.
Well I would not like to drink coffee that was filtered through an elephant. Question is how did they discover this. Did they run coffee beans through different kinds of animals and found that Elephants gave it the best flavour and best of all who was the first person to drink the first coffee they made.

Too many of us working too hard for too long in the specialty coffee scene, bringing people the best coffee in the world, for it to be contaminated and tarnished by garbage practices like force feeding coffee beans to animals as a novelty. You were right to call this out.

Such a great point that if coffee is over $30 / lb then it's a pretty basic thing to see info like the farm, growing region, etc. The poop coffee is obviously a marketing gimmick, and if it's anything like the monkey poop coffee then it's also animal cruelty. They're probably feeding them cheap coffee cherries. As a foodie who also loves to nerd out on sourcing things made with love and integrity, I am so happy I found your coffee!!

I have lived in Panama in the Highlands. Actually as the way the crow flies about 10 miles on the other side of the ridge you live on. My mother owned 1500 Hector above Cierra panda. It's now mt tatumas cloud Forrest retreat. Joining the national Forest. I was there in 05,06 but came home with a lot of regrets. Only coffee we had was at a lower elevation. The home was at 6300 ft .in two years I was able to see puenta barreicka(?) two times out of the front door because of the baha reeking.(rain from beneath,or in the clouds. Do love following your channel. My youngest son was almost born in David, but left due to minor complications Mom was having. I miss the dark nights, rainy season , windy season and no doubt the little bit of dry. God bless your little family and that jungle boy.Be safe in your travels. I was so thrilled that Honey Harvest was restocked. It's my favorite, and I was just getting to the end of my bag. Two more were just delivered today. Yay!! Redirecting back to the elephant coffee. The part that saddens me is the elephants consuming it for fermentation. If it's not normally an item they would eat, then that's just disheartening. I hope it doesn't make them sick.

It’s a little (lot) concerning that they’re adding the beans to their feed so that the animals don’t have a choice. If it’s not part of their normal diet then adding a stimulant in massive quantities borders (is) on abuse when they might not have access to bean free food sources. I believe the wild civets in Indonesia originally chose to eat wild coffee berries but now the animals are being captured and caged and force fed and the mortality rate is high. Whenever animals are utilised in this manner things usually head south for them. Choice is the key and where coffee farmers are concerned they chose it for lots of reasons. It may still be a limited choice in some areas but not forced. Good on you for shining a light on this.

The reason that I change my own oil is because I can. No line. A 14mm wrench and an oil filter wrench. 5 quarts of 10w 30 oil, and an oil filter. Your engine might need more oil. You might have to remove the skid plate. But if you can slide under you probably dont have to.
There's some other coffee out there that is fed to an animal (can't remember which animal, but it's not elephants!) & then harvested from it's poop! I wouldn't doubt that you have a meet-up with Mr. Beast at some point in your journey here! 👍☕☕☕🎃

There are a ton of exploitative elephant businesses in Thailand. It’s sickening 🙁 I volunteered at a completely fake and abusive elephant “sanctuary” and learned a lot. The dung coffee is just a novelty.
I wish I could tell a tale of the trials, tribulations and triumphs surmounted in this quest for the rarest of coffees. Alas, it only cost me a little bit of time, gas and excitement. I did get to meet other nice seekers and had a bit of fun. This brought a smile to my face. Overall a happy hunter to get to participate in your epic journey in the smallest of ways.

A few years ago the rage was kopi luwat, $100+ a cup (wild foraged "cat" or civet poop coffee ... the civet picks the berries). Thailand is using elephants to capture the gut biome fermentation process for the beans; voila, $2000/kilogram. So ... Moo Moo has a new job making Lola's Farm "Extra Smooth"??
I've been serious about coffee since the late 70s. My wife was in the coffee business in New Orleans for a while. Here in north Alabama, we have a wonderful locally owned roastery, in business for 50 years, to feed our habit. That said...La Comarca from Morning Movement is some of the best coffee I've ever had.
Wasn't the Elephant coffee mentioned in the movie, "The Bucket List". One of the very wealthy characters would only drink that coffee. Many people, who saw the movie, could feel affluent if they also drank that coffee.

Especially at crazy prices like these. Tell me where your coffee, tea, wine etc. has come from. Which area, and even better the farm and the methods they used to produce what I put in my body. It’s another craze; similar to civet cat coffee - not a natural process. Civets and elephants are not being fed coffee beans to save their species. When on a tour in Vietnam we were all offered civet cat coffee, I actually left the premises, found another coffee shop with another traveller and waited there for the everyone. I believe most did not partake of the ‘coffee’.

I tried some crap coffee out of Sri Lanka. Very expensive and very bad. I threw it away after one cup that I didn't finish. Thanks for the dedication to coffee and clarification. I love hearing about coffee and I love your journey.
I believe that you can claim the Panama coffee is the world’s best “natural” coffee. I also know that there is another competitor for “the world’s best coffee”. It comes from Colombia. There is a Colombian coffee grower who has a group of 40 “semi-wild” Coati Mundi (Tejon) that eat the coffee from the bushes and then, you guessed it: the grower collects the poop and cleans out the digested seeds. Take note: “pre-digested” coffee producers are not natural. I do not drink coffee because it tastes “bitter”. But I do know the difference natural and pre-digested of any food product.

The video you needed to make. Great video fam. I've been in the coffee industry - both brewing and roasting for 10 years. Have enjoyed some Finca Esmeralda a few times also! .. Too many of us working too hard for too long in the specialty coffee scene, bringing people the best coffee in the world, for it to be contaminated and tarnished by garbage practices like force feeding coffee beans to animals as a novelty. You were right to call this out.

I so appreciate your integrity and sharing your coffee nerdery with all of us. Such a great point that if coffee is over $30 / lb then it's a pretty basic thing to see info like the farm, growing region, etc. The poop coffee is obviously a marketing gimmick, and if it's anything like the monkey poop coffee then it's also animal cruelty. They're probably feeding them cheap coffee cherries. As a foodie who also loves to nerd out on sourcing things made with love and integrity, I am so happy I found your coffee!!

I have lived in Panama in the Highlands. Actually as the way the crow flies about 10 miles on the other side of the ridge you live on. My mother owned 1500 Hector above Cierra panda. It's now mt tatumas cloud Forrest retreat. Joining the national Forest. I was there in 05,06 but came home with a lot of regrets. Only coffee we had was at a lower elevation. The home was at 6300 ft .in two years I was able to see puenta barreicka(?) two times out of the front door because of the baha reeking.(rain from beneath,or in the clouds. Do love following your channel. My youngest son was almost born in David, but left due to minor complications Mom was having. I miss the dark nights, rainy season , windy season and no doubt the little bit of dry. God bless your little family and that jungle boy.Be safe in your travels. I was so thrilled that Honey Harvest was restocked. It's my favorite, and I was just getting to the end of my bag. Two more were just delivered today. Yay!! Redirecting back to the elephant coffee. The part that saddens me is the elephants consuming it for fermentation. If it's not normally an item they would eat, then that's just disheartening. I hope it doesn't make them sick.
FYI: the Boise bag has already been found! We left Idaho Falls at 6 am hoping to find it in time, correctly guessing it would be in Boise. 😢😢😢

It’s a little (lot) concerning that they’re adding the beans to their feed so that the animals don’t have a choice. If it’s not part of their normal diet then adding a stimulant in massive quantities borders (is) on abuse when they might not have access to bean free food sources. I believe the wild civets in Indonesia originally chose to eat wild coffee berries but now the animals are being captured and caged and force fed and the mortality rate is high. Whenever animals are utilised in this manner things usually head south for them. Choice is the key and where coffee farmers are concerned they chose it for lots of reasons. It may still be a limited choice in some areas but not forced. Good on you for shining a light on this.

The reason that I change my own oil is because I can. No line. A 14mm wrench and an oil filter wrench. 5 quarts of 10w 30 oil, and an oil filter. Your engine might need more oil. You might have to remove the skid plate. But if you can slide under you probably dont have to.

A few years ago the rage was kopi luwat, $100+ a cup (wild foraged "cat" or civet poop coffee ... the civet picks the berries). Thailand is using elephants to capture the gut biome fermentation process for the beans; voila, $2000/kilogram. So ... Moo Moo has a new job making Lola's Farm "Extra Smooth"??
I've been serious about coffee since the late 70s. My wife was in the coffee business in New Orleans for a while. Here in north Alabama, we have a wonderful locally owned roastery, in business for 50 years, to feed our habit.
That said...La Comarca from Morning Movement is some of the best coffee I've ever had.
I really like that one too. Just ordered the honey harvest and I love dark roast so can't wait to try it too.

Wasn't the Elephant coffee mentioned in the movie, "The Bucket List". One of the very wealthy characters would only drink that coffee. Many people, who saw the movie, could feel affluent if they also drank that coffee.

I will agree, regardless if it goes through an elephant, a monkey or any other fermentation process (which btw is the type of coffee I love) traceability is important! Especially at crazy prices like these. Tell me where your coffee, tea, wine etc. has come from. Which area, and even better the farm and the methods they used to produce what I put in my body.

It’s another craze; similar to civet cat coffee - not a natural process. Civets and elephants are not being fed coffee beans to save their species. When on a tour in Vietnam we were all offered civet cat coffee, I actually left the premises, found another coffee shop with another traveller and waited there for the everyone. I believe most did not partake of the ‘coffee’.

My Mom is 78 she has drank Coffee long as I can remember even eat it when she was pregnant with my younger brother lol. I tried some crap coffee out of Sri Lanka. Very expensive and very bad. I threw it away after one cup that I didn't finish. Thanks for the dedication to coffee and clarification. I love hearing about coffee and I love your journey.
I believe that you can claim the Panama coffee is the world’s best “natural” coffee. I also know that there is another competitor for “the world’s best coffee”. It comes from Colombia. There is a Colombian coffee grower who has a group of 40 “semi-wild” Coati Mundi (Tejon) that eat the coffee from the bushes and then, you guessed it: the grower collects the poop and cleans out the digested seeds. Take note: “pre-digested” coffee producers are not natural. I do not drink coffee because it tastes “bitter”. But I do know the difference natural and pre-digested of any food product.
