- This piece was performed by the 2010 High School Honor Band at the University of North Dakota. It was composed by James Curnow in 1984. Thanks for listening! All comments are appreciated!
I played this at 1983 with my youth orchestra. James Curnow influenced my composings in this years. I love this kind of music!
So nostalgic! I played this in HS my senior year. God bless that Brother Fire bass clarinet solo; definitely one of the high points of my musical career. Thanks so much for the upload!
I played it in in 1985 or 86 in Australia, and yes excellent bass clarinet parts. Jim Curnow came out and did a master class with us.
I played this piece in 1984. It was commissioned by my high school, North Hills.
Joe Heid I played it recently...and was supposed to perform it last month but never got to :(( thanks corona😞
@@paytonk01 Very sorry to hear. I thought about members of high school bands not playing their final concerts. My only hope for you is you're not a senior and may get another chance.
Joe Heid I’m sad I may not even get a final concert :(( wasn’t even ready to say goodbye to my time in band yet😞 true life I’m never gonna be ready to part with the experience. Band was such a fun and rewarding thing to be a part of
@@paytonk01After 20 years of not playing and moving to a new city, I found a community band. After a few nudges, I joined and started playing again. Is there a local band near you? Look it up. While it won't be the same, it will allow you to continue playing.
Joe Heid I’m gonna look into options in college next year but thank you very much for the suggestions!!
Playing this rn in my college's concert band on horn and sister moon and stars is so much fun.
TIME STAMPS
0:00 I Prologue
1:56 II Brother Sun
3:57 III Sister Moon and Stars
7:39 IV Brother Fire
8:53 V Mother Earth
13:12 VI Epilogue
I play mallets for this piece and those ten-tuplets at the end of Brother Sun are KILLER. Just gotta practice 😂
HS Band, 1988. We won an award for it.
I was a flutist playing this piece in my senior year in High School. Unfortunately we had to split it between two concerts. Mother Earth is still my very favorite section from this entire suite.
Anyone else's favorite Brother Sun (II)?
Playing this peice this year! Very difficult, but I love it. This and Through Courageous Eyes are my favorite.
I will never forget playing this piece. I was 6th grade playing the Bari Sax. My part blended in so well with the whole piece. I was astonished at how well a concert piece could sound compared to my shit called middle school pieces. Not to mention the shit horn too at the middle school. I had a crappy 1933 Bundy. At the high school though, oh man. A Yamaha YBS-62 Professional. Those were the days. Although what really sucks is that all of the cool parts i had i couldnt quite play well yet so i didn't play them. Like most of the low A's and the fast parts of brother son. Play for bari, live for music.
I played this my senior year of HS....GREAT piece....musically and stylistically very difficult.....great job...
clarinetguy4life I’m a senior this yr and was gonna play this last month but never got to :((
Played this during my summer music camp and it was so great. I miss it so much
I played this more recently in my high school band in Wales UK. Such a fantastic suite of music, a pleasure to play and a treat for the ears!
It’s upsetting to me how not many people nowadays really enjoy this piece because it’s amazing
brother fire is baritone abuse
I played this my freshman year in HS 1990.
I played movement V in Marching band!!!! 2011 Marching Statesmen!! 8:54
That has to have been incredible to march to. That's my favorite movement.
@@harleysparrow222 I got emotional during the big impact EVERY. SINGLE. TIME!
I love this piece.
This piece was commissioned by our high school, North Hills, in Pittsburgh. We played it before 1984.
My band tecaher is letting me and 3 others pick out next piece to congratulate ud for going to allatate. We all unanimously want this.
Irondale Marching Knights 1995 FTW!
part 6 is the best part to play on contra bass clarinet
I'm playing this for contest. My band director's trying to kill me in movement 5. First, I have to play out and then play as loud as I can for the oboe solo. There's only one of me, I can only do so much... DX
@Percidia455 Our Oboe had almost the same problem. But there was only one of her and she got though it. Proves to say that no matter how hard it is, anything is possible through practice, determination, and love for your instrument.
Dude that was me. I was that oboe.
You labeled Brother sun as the prologue
Just saying.
Sounded like u were missing the 3rd clarinet part
WhispTheFox is it really? cause that’s the part I needed to hear
I play 3rd clarinet now for this song!
