this was 1812's Oppenheimer back in the day. People'll be like "hey bro you wanna go to the Tchaikovsky's Overture? I heard you'll really feel the sound"
This piece was composed in 1880, the song was commissioned to be about Russia’s victory over Napoleonic France in 1812. Tchaikovsky was persecuted due to being a gay man so when he was asked to compose this piece he decided he wanted it to be to most over the top bombastic piece as a way of mocking Russia, however the canons in the piece are what cemented it’s legacy
Also an interesting fact is the use of each country’s anthems to demonstrate the back and forth of the battle. The clashing of the pieces back and forth really communicates the ferocity of the battle

In the concert day, we couldn't really have a cannon bombing in the auditorium, so the teacher of the first violin brought a and fired it in the back stage! It was so loud, everyone was surprised while playing (also bc we never checked how big the gun sound will be😅). It's such a fun memory.
My high school had a cop with a 12gauge standing in the doorway to the gym right next to where the band was playing. The door was in an alcove that amplified the gun. Best we could do at the time.

Tuve la oportunidad de ir cuando la Filarmónica Alemana visitó mi país, y realmente no tengo palabras para explicar la sensación en el momento en que se tocó la obertura de 1812, las campanas, los cañones, es espectacular, todo fue espectacular.
I saw it at the classical spectacular at Birmingham Symphony Hall once, it was awesome. Cannon blasts, auditorium shakes, and stinks of cordite. Amazing.
