    what makes grease GREASE is that it’s occlusive !!! thats why shes using beeswax its an occlusive so is lanolin and petroleum they are meant to stop moisture from leaving but not allow any to come in as well so it keeps your hair hydrated while not allowing it to get frizzy. Oils are emollients they are meant to smooth they dont hydrate on their own. The only thing this recipe is missing is a humectant like aloe , honey, hyaluronic acid or lactic acid which draws water into the hair.After that you just play with portion size of stuff. I make my own grease , lipbalm , moisturizer. They all have the 3 basic principles you just use what ingredients you feel suited to that area.

    Absolutely LOVE this video and I'm so glad I found it. A few days ago, i just bought some lanolin, beeswax, mango butter, pecan oil, apricot oil, and argon oil. I just took my hair down too! I can't wait to make this and put it in my 4C super thick hair. I've been listening to everyone with their "grease is bad" spiel for well over 15 yrs and I think I'm over it. I kept trying to find heavier and heavier oils to put in my hair or slicker oils to put in my hair for slip but I just can't anymore. Put straight castor oil in my hair and that was a tiny disaster, was thinking of doing straight lanolin next but this looks like a happy medium AND I can put in all the oils I just bought too? Oh yeah, I can see me and grease being good friends again, especially with this recipe!! (Side note: I am grateful for my time away from grease because after all of my hair troubles after leaving grease, I have found fermented rice water so between the rice water, this homemade grease, and some protective styling...I'm just giddy thinking about my hair growth possibilities)!

    • @suzettehenry715

      Really hope you tried it and seeing some growth from the rice water and grease

    • @Superlife1369

      @@suzettehenry715 Oh I tried it as fast as I could get it started after posting my original comment. I even have a tiny crock pot and it is my warmer and I let stuff cool in between and if it is not soft enough then I heat it back up and add more oil. I have realized not to put way too much rice water in my hair too often because it is fine and I have also learned that onion and ginger combine well with the rice water. Rice water one time and onion and ginger the other few times, back and forth like this. The sulfur in the onion reacts with something in the rice water and my hair has been growing and this grease is my styling stuff and sealant. Love, Love, Love your recipe! Thanks for this. I feel like I have struck gold!

    Yes the beeswax can act like a barrier as does any other oil or butter that is the point of the product to help seal. I don't use oil or grease on my scalp. However I did use this mixture on my body and I had no problems with it at all.

    What the bleep are you talking about? It's grease (a thick emollient) your not going to necessarily going to have greasy hair from using grease. A cream is a mix of water and emollient. Grease isn't a product name it's what the substance is called grow up

  • @DerbyCityNaturals
    @DerbyCityNaturals  12 років тому

    No but you will not achieve the same consistency. if you just use oils they will not thicken up. if you use butters you will just end up with a butter. this is for those looking for the consistency of traditional hair grease without the petroleum.

      The "New" Natural hair community is so sensitive to everything,and curse old school stuff until they "have" to go back to it. Ppl seem to forget "Hair Grease" like products in the Black community weren't always made from Petroleu Jelly, they used anything from wax to a gelatin like substance, even lanolin, Glycerin,. Which are organic.

      Andrea Jackson actually you wax a car which is to put a waxy coating on it. I NEVER heard the term grease when referring to a car. To grease simply is to smear something over and that is what your doing. Grease is defining the motion not the product. You smear a thin layer onto the scalp not the hair strands. its just applying a little moisture. You wax cars to provide a polished protective layer over it. Grease isn't bad because it's not meant to be applied in abundance. Just a licensed stylist pov.

    • @andreajackson3072
      @andreajackson3072 8 років тому +1

      Kenisha Patton You wax the outer surface of a car, u grease the engine and so on. I merely said that u oil your scalp not grease it. That's my pov.
