Emily, this video is incredible! It's like an encyclopedia of games. I loved the collaboration, and I can't wait to see more videos in this series in the future! Hats off to you and Branden! 😊
Switch Library is amazing. i don't have one, but imagining all these titles in a handheld experience is awesome. And now Super Mario RPG Remake is coming! This is huge!! Thank you guys for the content
Appreciate the organization/categorization of the lists. It helped me better understand some of the games on the list I've never played. I can definitely co-sign the Octopath Traveler 2 and 13 Sentinels suggestions. Such great games that I think lots of people would both enjoy and find very unique in the RPG world.
Thanks! Glad to hear you liked how we structured things :) And agreed they're great games! I've yet to get to Octopath 2 but hoping to bump it up the backlog so I can get to it sooner rather than later.
@@JustTheGems 100% agree - in a world where people complain that every game is unoriginal these days, 13 Sentinels may be the perfect counterpoint. It is one of the tougher games to describe to friends when talking them into playing, but worth it for those willing to give it a try. Great video and enjoyed finding your channel through this as well.
orba, your videos are very cozy and chill, as a lover of jrpg's i always love watching video essays, retrospectives, and recommendation videos like these to just make me more aware of things lol your videos are very relaxing, i hope you'll be able to continue with the jrpg related vids!! maybe some deeper dive videos where you focus more on a single title or franchise, and what you loved about them, just a deeper dive rather than these general type of vids lol! btw, you are adorable =) you remind me of an innocent puppy although i'm sure you're probably the opposite lol make a video to allow us to learn more about you!! i'd love to get to know you more
Dudes, this is an incredible list. So happy to see Brigadine make the list. It is every bit as good now as it was twenty years ago on the ps1. Now if you will pardon me, there is a shopping list that i need to make many additions to. Thanks to the pair of ya!
What a great collab and great video in general. The criteria for your choices were very sensible and relally centered around what physical collectors in particular care about, and it's plain to see that you're both very knowledgeable and passionate about this genre. You just go from strength to strength with every video and I'm always looking forward to the next one. As a physical Switch game collector with a primarily JRPG focus, I was pleased there were only 3 games mentioned that I don't own (Mercenaries Blaze, Remi Lore and Crystar) so I'll have to look into those titles for sure.
To clarify what the 'exclusivity' criteria means in this video, we're referring to a system having an exclusive PHYSICAL copy. We also include exclusive editions with extra content (e.g. Tokyo Mirage Sessions #FE is available on the Wii U but the Encore version is exclusive to the Switch). Many of these games may also be available digitally but this is a collecting-based video after all 😆
Great video!! Branden was fantastic too! I loved the system and how you just showed it at the bottom of the screen so you didn’t have to spend the time talking through each factor. It was clever how you worked in some of the favorites at the end that aren’t as widely available anymore so people still get to hear about them. Just overall fantastic!
Trails is sadly a tough recommendation since it's published through NISA (with most very difficult to find in North America at least). Tactics Ogre is one I want to get sometime soon actually! It's on my very long list of SRPGs I want to own eventually 😂
Honestly I lowkey look forward to your vids all the time. You're super chill and I enjoy how you talk in your vids. I do love my vita/psp games so I sometimes find myself rewatching your vids with those kinda games in them 😁
Im loving your jrpg content. I kinda of wish i knew earlier about some of the titles before they went out of print. I am looking forward to the ps5 version of this video.
Yes!! Thank you for mentioning Brigandine: The Legend of Runersia. That and the original are my favorite games of all time, and yet so many people missed them completely.
First of all, Brandon - you're not old. Classics are Classic for a reason! Besides, that would make you older than me and I doubt that. Like the video and the series idea. Looking forward to more!

LOL Branden’s jokes had me dying. But love this video! Reminding me of games I want to check out: Sakuna of Rice and Ruin, Harvestella, and Atelier Series
The yellow circle may not have been the best choice, but I'm thinking of changing it to grey for the next vids so hopefully that will be easier to see the symbols!
@@orbalology adding symbols to the colors is so helpful for color blind people! Thank you for keeping us in mind 😊. It's often overlooked and can be frustrating.

Also, the tags you used with each game were concise and informative; if they become a standard in your videos, I wouldn't complain.
Looking forward to trying the Atelier series based on your recommendation. Thank you both for a very descriptive and in-depth look at my favorite kind of games. Now, if I only could pry myself from BG3……..
I was definitely glad to see Labyrinth of Refrain, I'm currently playing it, it's one of my favorite Dungeon Crawlers/jrpgs... Also glad to see Etrian Odyssey Collection & FF Pixel Remasters ❤❤❤
Absolutely loved eastward when it came out. I happened to find it like the end of august of that year and was hooked from the trailer so i preordered it on switch.
Thanks Emily, i really enjoyed the video. I am happy i have most of the RPGs, i agree that NIS are very difficult to get but i am glad i have a few of those in my collection. Keep up the good work!
Thanks for so many amazing recommendations! I'll be sure to try and check out some of the games on this list, as I've only played a few of them so far.
Great video Emily and Brandon! As a recent Switch owner this was an awesome list that gave me several games to look forward to! Thank you both creating high-quality, informative videos. I'm checking out Branden's channel next! ✌
Hi, Emily! I recently discovered your channel and I really enjoy your videos. I absolutely love RPGs especially Fire Emblem Engage which I finished just a few weeks ago. Some of my other favorite series include The Legend of Zelda, Mega Man, Castlevania and Super Smash Bros. Your collection is amazing and I look forward to seeing more of your videos and I hope you are doing well, Emily 😊
This is awesome. 1st video I ever watched where you talk about video games & there's a check list in the vid down below. I'm still playing Persona 5 Royale. The sword & the Fairy together forever, that went on sale at half price in the PSN. So now I paid $20 American to buy the game.
Sorry for month old video it was the first I found lol heard about your channel from the Kiseki Nut, instant sub love the content and presentation :) plus that Cold Steel 3 menu music sealed the deal lol learned a lot from the video though!
great video and great list! a have a few of the games mentioned but theres a whole lot more i need to get, and some new ones on my radar thanks to this video :)
Thank you for the collab list, Emily. And you're right about NIS America games, I cannot preorder Rhapsody Marl Kingdom Chronicle in my local shop because out of quota 🤔
Stellar video! I’m sure there’s something in here that will finally break me out of the gaming rut 😂 I really like the criteria system you guys applied, super helpful! Though it really highlights how rare fully complete carts are these days 😭
Already love this new series! So helpful! Especially useful that y’all note the availability and complete cart, I don’t see that listed in most list style videos and it saves me a lot of googling haha! Also one tiny note, not sure if it’s just be but the white symbol in the yellow box is almost impossible for me to make out either do to UA-cam compression or just the contrast being too low?
Thanks! Glad to hear you enjoy the concept of this series & the details we considered :) And yeah looking back maybe yellow was not the right color to go with, I may change it to grey for the next videos 😅
Hehe, be sure to check out the video over on Branden's channel 😆 I lean more towards turn-based games as well, though I do love a good action RPG to spice things up from time to time :)
When you started talking about visual novel strategy the first thing that came to mind was the Utawarerumono series. Weird that those aren't on the switch! I got one on the vita but later bought the trilogy on steam on a big sale.
I'm really surprised those haven't been ported over to the switch either. Maybe after Monochrome Mobius releases we'll start to see switch ports for the earlier games.
Great list. Yeah after Sega reprinted it it's a great action rpg option! I picked it up for the PS4 myself because I found it with that steelbook tin for cheap but I hear it runs pretty well on the switch too.
Aww Ryza 2 & 3 are so good!! They have noticeably more performance issues compared to the first game but if you can get past that they're wonderful games to own on the Switch :)
This was such a fun video to watch. I did get super sad about grandia hd- i have the asia copy and had no idea about the difference. This is so helpful all good games in on e video. Thank you!
I was sad when I learned about the cart differences between the Grandia HD editions too because I missed out on the LRG offering 😭 But glad to hear you enjoyed this format ☺️
I don't know if it is available on physical discs, but "Planescape: Torment" is the best western RPG I have played till now. I've played it 3 times, first in 2002 (I think). It is like a vintage wine! You will never forget its taste! For example, I will never forget the character Annah of the Shadows (voiced by Sheena Easton) or the light hearted jokes of Morte (in a very gloomy universe!).
@@jean-pierrejoubert6140 These two RPG are almost the opposite when comes to characters. In Icewind Dale you create your party and name them. They don't have personalities or specific dialogs as I remember, while Baldur's Gate is in the middle somehow. All are classic western RPG, a must play IMO ;)
@@surfingconcrete It's a western style which different from Japanese. I personally like both styles, old and modern. I'm mostly in rich story games and sometimes visual novels like Steins;gate.
I'm huge into digital collection since I'm limited on space. Grandia collection is one of my favorite rpgs, two amazing games. Now I news the Lunar collection🙂, the remakes on the psx/Saturn were amazing.
Great video! Like both of you, I try to get physical versions of most notable Switch RPGs but I do wonder still about the future. Since most physical games require downloads upon purchase, either as planned additional data or through patches, I have to wonder about these will still be available into the future or will those be discontinued when the Switch eshop ultimately closes someday?
This is a concern I have as well. The switch has the ability to download updates by matching with local users. So if a nearby switch contains those patches for a game you can download from there instead of relying on the eShop via internet wifi. But I guess this is also where the homebrew scene can step in down the line too. Especially once the flash carts inevitably fail as well. It's unfortunate that this is the state of the physical scene now.
great picks from both of you. i do have some of these physically like monster hunter stories 2 , rune factory 4 special and dq 11. But i own most of them digitally.
21:21 One minor note, CRPG's (Computer RPGs) are a genre that is essentially as close to tabletop Dungeons and Dragons on a computer as possible. They aren't Diablo-likes, those are typically just called ARPG's. Almost all games in the two genre's do have that isometric overhead view though, so I do think that's why it's easy to conflate the two. Great video though. My two additions would be Monster Sanctuary and Fell Seal - Arbiter's mark. One an indie monster tamer metroidvania, and the other an indie tactical rpg.
Ah, while I was talking in that session I sort of had diablo in my mind since that's what seems to come to mind for a lot of folks. But you're right they're not necessarily one in the same.
Really enjoyed the video, there is some stuff in here I hadn't heard about before. Also I should have really loved octopath traveler game since it's old school in appearance. But I just couldn't get into it and I don't know why. It's actually one of the only switch cartridges I traded in on something else. The second game looks pretty cool, but yeah couldn't get into the first one.
It's ok if the game didn't click with you! Sometimes games don't always work out. But if it helps I've heard a lot of folks reporting that they really enjoyed the second game after being underwhelmed by the first. So it may be worth considering if an opportunity like a deep discount sale comes up :)
Really useful video, thanks! I'm not sure the "Exclusivity" side of this list is correct, though. FE# was on Wii U physically, Harvestella and Octopath 2 on PS4, for instance.
Tokyo mirage sessions #FE encore edition is exclusive to the switch. The Wii u doesn't have the Encore version. The first octopath and harvestella is not available physically outside of the switch as well.
Thanks again Emily for having me, this was a blast!
Thanks for joining me! The videos turned out great 😊
You getting Monochrome Mobius? #Mobin

@@EnGeeMoon I know it's Western, but it's more than just Western, it's old school Western.
Which is quite different.
I hope the Suikoden gets a physical release. Awesome video 🎉
I hope we get an official date soon!
This was a really cool like of games, I just have to note that Dragon’s Dogma is by pure definition a jrpg, it’s made in Japan
I enjoy these videos. I’m trying to get into visual novels. Do you have any recommendations? Or maybe a video on them?
I can totally make a similar video for VNs :)
Emily must be sitting on an absolute fortune by now. She has a really nice collection.
Most women literally sit on a fortune. 🍑 🤳
Awesomw video and collection as always Emily.
Thank you so much, Alessandro 😄
Great co-op and pickups!
Thank you :)
I'm playing Monster Hunter Stories 2 right now and I'm loving it a lot. Great monster collecting RPG for sure!
It's amazing
Watching, but as soon as that guy said Harvestella had "amazing music and one of the best narratives" I laughed.
@@orbalology possibly a black friday pickup if it's discounted for sure.
You are so sweet! Best gamer-chick I've seen who seems genuine.
