Great video!! Branden was fantastic too! I loved the system and how you just showed it at the bottom of the screen so you didn’t have to spend the time talking through each factor. It was clever how you worked in some of the favorites at the end that aren’t as widely available anymore so people still get to hear about them. Just overall fantastic!

What a great collab and great video in general. The criteria for your choices were very sensible and relally centered around what physical collectors in particular care about, and it's plain to see that you're both very knowledgeable and passionate about this genre. You just go from strength to strength with every video and I'm always looking forward to the next one.
As a physical Switch game collector with a primarily JRPG focus, I was pleased there were only 3 games mentioned that I don't own (Mercenaries Blaze, Remi Lore and Crystar) so I'll have to look into those titles for sure.
I can vouch extra for Crystar, it was one of my favorite games I played in 2022, so if you have the opportunity I highly recommend it!

I can definitely co-sign the Octopath Traveler 2 and 13 Sentinels suggestions. Such great games that I think lots of people would both enjoy and find very unique in the RPG world.

I'm so glad we live in a world where a game like 13 Sentinels can exist. It's such an odd mix of genres, but it works so well!
@@JustTheGems 100% agree - in a world where people complain that every game is unoriginal these days, 13 Sentinels may be the perfect counterpoint. It is one of the tougher games to describe to friends when talking them into playing, but worth it for those willing to give it a try.

To clarify what the 'exclusivity' criteria means in this video, we're referring to a system having an exclusive PHYSICAL copy. We also include exclusive editions with extra content (e.g. Tokyo Mirage Sessions #FE is available on the Wii U but the Encore version is exclusive to the Switch). Many of these games may also be available digitally but this is a collecting-based video after all 😆

orba, your videos are very cozy and chill, as a lover of jrpg's i always love watching video essays, retrospectives, and recommendation videos like these to just make me more aware of things lol your videos are very relaxing, i hope you'll be able to continue with the jrpg related vids!! maybe some deeper dive videos where you focus more on a single title or franchise, and what you loved about them, just a deeper dive rather than these general type of vids lol! btw, you are adorable =) you remind me of an innocent puppy although i'm sure you're probably the opposite lol make a video to allow us to learn more about you!! i'd love to get to know you more

Already love this new series! So helpful! Especially useful that y’all note the availability and complete cart, I don’t see that listed in most list style videos and it saves me a lot of googling haha!
Also one tiny note, not sure if it’s just be but the white symbol in the yellow box is almost impossible for me to make out either do to UA-cam compression or just the contrast being too low?

The yellow circle may not have been the best choice, but I'm thinking of changing it to grey for the next vids so hopefully that will be easier to see the symbols!

Trails is sadly a tough recommendation since it's published through NISA (with most very difficult to find in North America at least). Tactics Ogre is one I want to get sometime soon actually! It's on my very long list of SRPGs I want to own eventually 😂

I was thinking of adding Grandia HD Collection to my Baten Kaitos order from PlayAsia to obtain free shipping until I heard in this video that it isn't complete on cartridge, which prevented me from regretting it as I already own the game digitally. Also, the tags you used with each game were concise and informative; if they become a standard in your videos, I wouldn't complain.

Great video! Like both of you, I try to get physical versions of most notable Switch RPGs but I do wonder still about the future. Since most physical games require downloads upon purchase, either as planned additional data or through patches, I have to wonder about these will still be available into the future or will those be discontinued when the Switch eshop ultimately closes someday?
This is a concern I have as well. The switch has the ability to download updates by matching with local users. So if a nearby switch contains those patches for a game you can download from there instead of relying on the eShop via internet wifi.
But I guess this is also where the homebrew scene can step in down the line too. Especially once the flash carts inevitably fail as well. It's unfortunate that this is the state of the physical scene now.
Absolutely loved eastward when it came out. I happened to find it like the end of august of that year and was hooked from the trailer so i preordered it on switch.
Eastward is a be all end all game for me. Love seeing mentioned on the list!
Great list! I was lucky enough to get the Grandia HD collection when it released and it is rad, I love that first game. The Witcher 3 is a huge favorite of mine but I have yet to play it on the switch, maybe I need to give that a try. I also recently got Octopath Traveler II and I can't wait to try it out, heard very good things!!
Witcher 3 is interesting on the switch! It was my first exposure to it and while I enjoyed it in handheld mode I'm sure the other platforms would make for a better experience 😂 Hope you enjoy octopath 2!

Yeah after Sega reprinted it it's a great action rpg option! I picked it up for the PS4 myself because I found it with that steelbook tin for cheap but I hear it runs pretty well on the switch too.
Really enjoyed the video, there is some stuff in here I hadn't heard about before. Also I should have really loved octopath traveler game since it's old school in appearance. But I just couldn't get into it and I don't know why. It's actually one of the only switch cartridges I traded in on something else. The second game looks pretty cool, but yeah couldn't get into the first one.
It's ok if the game didn't click with you! Sometimes games don't always work out. But if it helps I've heard a lot of folks reporting that they really enjoyed the second game after being underwhelmed by the first. So it may be worth considering if an opportunity like a deep discount sale comes up :)

Aww Ryza 2 & 3 are so good!! They have noticeably more performance issues compared to the first game but if you can get past that they're wonderful games to own on the Switch :)

I'm huge into digital collection since I'm limited on space. Grandia collection is one of my favorite rpgs, two amazing games. Now I news the Lunar collection🙂, the remakes on the psx/Saturn were amazing.

Really useful video, thanks! I'm not sure the "Exclusivity" side of this list is correct, though. FE# was on Wii U physically, Harvestella and Octopath 2 on PS4, for instance.
Tokyo mirage sessions #FE encore edition is exclusive to the switch. The Wii u doesn't have the Encore version. The first octopath and harvestella is not available physically outside of the switch as well.
I'm not sure if this would be counted as an RPG by some, but one game that was amazing for the Switch and really surprised me was Shadowverse: Champion's Battle on the Switch. I bought it on a whim because the price was very reasonable, and despite the fact that I had been so eagerly anticipating SMTV, when it came out, I had trouble putting down Shadowverse to play SMTV because the story was just so engrossing: it was like a Pokémon game if the game was challenging and had much more of a plot. I've never played a card-based game before, but the cards had so much character and the actual people in the world were so interesting that this was in my top games of 2021.
When you started talking about visual novel strategy the first thing that came to mind was the Utawarerumono series. Weird that those aren't on the switch! I got one on the vita but later bought the trilogy on steam on a big sale.
I'm really surprised those haven't been ported over to the switch either. Maybe after Monochrome Mobius releases we'll start to see switch ports for the earlier games.
Great video Emily some RPGs you didn't mention is Kemco RPG volumes 1 2 and 3 they're not AAA but they are very good highly recommend them
I've always been curious about those but haven't pulled the trigger just yet. I almost picked up Blacksmith of the Sand Kingdom from LRG but it was at a time where I was really trying to limit my orders through them 😅😂
@@orbalology I know what you mean I'm trying to limit how many I buy from them then they come out with the Castlevania collection for the Gameboy advance I could not help myself I had to have it pretty sure that's where they come out first either way I couldn't say no 🤣
