I once went through an airport that had that vip area… I wasn’t a member but they had a day package for 50. I had like a 12 hour layover, so I got it. It came with a (very nice) private shower with everything included (towels, shampoo, conditioner, soap, deodorant, razor), a 24 hour all you can eat buffet with free drinks included, lay-flat lounge chairs with all the hook ups, huge TVs. It was wild for this country girl

I'm not gonna lie, this is my dream home. I have a specific thing where I feel most comfortable in very small spaces (as they were the only place I was safe as a child) so a room that consists solely of a bed and a computer (to talk to friends) would be perfect. Net cafes were the best for when I went overnight to Tokyo. I’d rarely go early since I’d be out adventuring and so the rates were way better than going to a capsule hotel. The free amenities were great (thank god for free all you can eat soup and beverages),the places were always a bit too air-conned but you could ask for a blanket and pillow (and the flat rooms are definitely the way to go if you want to sleep). Unfortunately, sometimes you hear things you wouldn’t want to hear (“night sound”, alarms from cellphones, one particular time a business meeting through Skype), so invest in good headphones or earplugs.
Edit: your type of room was way fancier than mine.

I spent many late nights in Kaikatsu Club in my first year and a half in Japan (2005-2006), as my apartment didn't have internet. The one I went to didn't have rooms like this, but I had a private booth for about 3 hours to use the internet. I always went after work (done at 10pm), and usually stayed until around 2 am. No trains after that, so I walked 40 minutes to my apartment late at night. I did this 3 times a week. I miss those days, but they were pretty lonely days.

Oh, man. I love Kaikatsu, and I still have my membership card in case I ever come back to Japan. Net cafes can be a lifesaver in a pinch when you're backpacking, though the private rooms like this can be a bit stiff on price depending on what day of the week and if it's a holiday.
Worth noting too, for anyone who might wanna visit a net cafe like this - not all Kaikatsu Club's have rooms like this! Services offered are almost always a bit different from location to location. Though thankfully both the location and their website listing has helpful pictograms to depict what is and isn't there ( food/drink, private rooms, showers, etc. )

kaikatsu i stayed at only had a curtain that stopped halfway, fucking pointless. watched a guy get thrown out though that was pretty funny, he was playing that goddamn pineapple song for an hour and everyone was super annoyed, eventually some guy came running out from the back and shut off his computer and told him to get out, he was PISSED, ive never seen someone that angry in japan, the guy tried to pull some "i paid for the right to be here i am a customer" and the employee basically told him "not anymore, i dont give a shit, get out" i took a video and have it saved somewhere on an old phone, this was in 2014 though, hopefully i run across it again because i will definitely upload it, dont remember the name of the place but it was in dotonbori somewhere. I dont know if the guy was drunk or if he was just intentionally being an asshole, it was funny for like the first 10 minutes cause he was getting really into it but then if someone would get up to go buy something he would jump in and change whatever they were doing to that fucking song. I know he didn't speak english but he definitely understood it, i told him he was going to spill his drink and he danced back over to it and put the cap on. Theres more to it but i typed too much already, it was one of the weirdest experiences of my life, i love japan

@@RexZShadow You are missing the point: overseas tourists naturally need the room for 24 hours a day, for sleeping, to store their clothes and belongings during the day. Then the process starts all over again in the evening when the tourist returns to the hotel after the day's outing.

I always pictured an awful seedy-looking place when thinking of what a "net cafe" is. I've seen it depicted in anime or whatever, but I always thought that was just like typical fantasy like how everyone on TV lives in a massive apartment or home. Seeing how it works is actually pretty cool. We have no concept of capsule anything where I'm from (our people would trash the hell out of the places, if I'm honest) so this is absolutely unreal to me. Also, this video is really quiet without the constant rattle of a train in the background. Really cool view into this kind of place and it's easy to see the potential lifestyle some hard-luck folks would get out of it.

If it's around $52/night, it's 1560/mo BUT all amenities and utilities basically included. You lose on space, but you make up for it in convenience. It's a steep rent in a small town, but actually a pretty good deal in most big/major cities. I think it's a better deal as a temporary thkng though- like a cheap "hotel room" or a place to live between housing situations if you need it or, frankly, a safe place to stay if you need to lay low from an abusive situation or need to cool your head away from your partner-even a safe place for a young person who ran away from home to stay, if they're able. I could never live so small, but i could see myself staying over night in one of these rooms much more so than minimal size capsule hotels. It's pretty genius.
