My pigeon absolutely loves me, he will cuddle up against me, sleep on me, preen me, stuff like that. But the MOMENT he sees my hand he goes into attack mode, it makes it very hard to take him back into his cage when I have to sleep 😅
I have A pigeon underneath the stairway at this condo complex I live at. I barely noticed him or her but It won't fly away even when I approach. I tossed some wild bird food near It and its eating it. But won't fly away. There are stray cats around here. I put a tray of water too hoping it'll be strong enough to fly away but it's still there. It looks healthy but It won't fly away. It's been very hot in Vegas lately so not sure if the elements Made it weak. I'm trying to get this Pigeon to save itself and fly away. No idea what to do
I have open box and cover it with scarf at bedtime....he's a juvenile and I placed him now on my baskets outside my balcony to get half hour of sun and he's pecking at earth now ..by time I put him on her to bed....he's wiped out as has a full day of sqwaking...and temper tantrums throwing his pet mouse around....across my kitchen or from his perches outside
you are absolutely right I think this predatory society hates them because it knows how crearly angelical they are; and psychopaths want to built a hell on earth angels are not supposed to be here
Once you get that personal connection with a pigeon weather it be wild or tame, you never see pigeons in the same way. Lovely video and gorgeous Rose 🌹
I recently bought a dove who was inside a rusty cage without any food or water, she was the only one inside the cage. When I saw her she was trying to get my attention by cooing at me every time I walked by her. Since I always wanted doves and pigeons (I've done reasearch about them before) I couldn't get my eyes off of her and eventually I got her!! :D Now she gets to have a clean cage with food and water, and we're slowly bonding with each other :)
Rose is beautiful. I don't have a pidgeon pet but I go to same place every day and put some seeds down for the wild ones every morning. I ambquite popular with them. If I am walking down the street sometimes they will fly directly at me and land nearby obask for food.
I rescued a NYC fledgling pigeon on December 23, 2022. On that day, the temperature dropped from 51° to six degrees. 🥶 I spotted the fledging on the ground and immediately walked passed it.. complaining to the Universe.. why did I see this bird! I went back and pick up the bird..he would of froze to death that day. I kept him cozy in my locked bathroom.. I learned how to feed him via UA-cam. My pigeon now has all his feathers and flies around inside my bathroom. For 8:23 the past 3 weeks.. he’s matured and started cooing and dancing.. but whenever I come near him with my hand or fingers he bites them. So I thank you for your video.. I now realize he’s protecting his territory.. which is the whole bathroom wherever he perches! 😄. He doesn’t like my fingers to come near him. I love ❤this pigeon.. he’s so intelligent! he even jumps into the sink to shower under gentle warm water. Opening up his under armpit wings… it’s so beautiful to watch. He knew this by instinct. I hope to transfer him to a friends pigeon coop.. now that weather will be springtime soon. he will gradually be introduced to the flock.. this way he can fly free in the sky as he was meant to.. and hopefully return to the coop to be fed. I would keep him but I have 5 cats.. and they haven’t seen him.. but one cat accidentally snuck into the bathroom, unbeknownst to me, while I quickly opened the door. Two hours later I hear the door rattling.. I opened it and the cat came out…😮and the bird was just perched calmly on the above the toilet bowl..unfazed.. both the cat and bird! Phew! Lucky bird!
I have a rescued wild pigeon and then I bought a dove to keep her company. It's like a Great Dane to a Pekingese! 😂 Bobbie is the rescue and Galen is the dove.
I am loving ALL pigeons my whole life! For me they are the most adorable birds!!! I could kiss and cuddle them all day and I adore their sound and also their sound of them flying and landing - it sounds for me like straight from heaven! Many greetings from Germany to you, your family and of course your pigeon! And have a Happy New Year!
Thank you for the great content!! During the lock down a lots of birds that rely on tourism and casual meals were left starving in the city, I have rescued 3 and kept one of them since it was a baby we both bonded and now I watch videos like yours for tips and advice.
I appreciate your help! I rescued a pigeon thats a juvenile so I hope he bonds well! Second day and he already lets me pet him, hand feed, and he eats and drinks on his own!
Pigeons also like baths, you can train them to take a bath, I made a video about it. It's faster to make them learn rituals, for exemple before the bath I always do the same stuff, I put the bird in the room, I add some food, and I setup the bath at this moment, when the bird finished the food he'll always go to the bath, first he must reach my shoulder, then cross my arm and reach my hands, then I put my hand slowly near the water to make the bird reach the bottom of the bath with no jump (to avoid the splash), once he is on the water (5cm, about 32°c) I wait until he tastes the water and start to wash himself, at this moment I use my hand to make the water drop on him, the bird will open his wings regulary, once he want to go out I catch him and quickly put it on the floor, there the bird remove the water from his feather, but also get cold, I put it in a blanket and bring it the warmest room of the house, he'll dry out in an hour. Mine enjoy bath every 2 weeks, once again it must be regular, if something broke the process the bird could refuse to take his bath, you can put your hands in the water and make noise (make you hand acts like a pigeons in water), sometimes your bird will follow your hands, but the big problem is the splash, if the bird must jump into the water he won't do it, and the regular human bath or sink are slippery and they hate that, so help them with your hand. In my tuto I grab the bird and put it slowly in the water, but I only do it when I'm sure the bird want to reach the water, it's not the best way. If you scare your bird it will take many more attemps to restore his trust. So be carefull. You can also train your bird to beleive that your hands are other birds, you can make circle with your hands to perform a pigeon dance, you can also show your empty hands from top to bottom when you have no more food, the bird will understand it if you always do it. Repetitions and rituals is how I process, I don't use positive reinforcement with food because pigeons tends to get too fat. You can also breath loudly to tell your bird to look at something, then you point the objet with your finger, he'll understand. The voice works too and the bird can recognize your voice in a familly, but they act like you are singing, that's why I prefer to teach them things without the voice. I also wissle only when I have to catch the bird to put it in the cage, then I put food inside, with this method the bird even jump on the floor and wait me to catch it, it's the ritual for that and he doesnt fear the cage, which is important because he must feel safe inside, for exemple when you have many guests.
Thank you for the tips. My son found a fantailed pigeon and I decided to keep him and named him Zen. I have had him since April and he is taking time warming up to us. However I do talk to him and let him walk around while i workout or sew. I am hoping one day Zen will trust me enough to let me hold him.
Its funny, I have a feral cat that I’ve “converted”-she’s tame to me, loves me petting her now….anyway, she didn’t know that my feet were part of me either. Or my head. Shes not that crazy about my head resting on her. Hands though, she loves lol. So when I found my pigeon, he’s similar in some ways lol
Great info!!!!!!!!!!! I have had 3 pigeons come to my front door huddled up over the last 5 weeks. All had injuries under their left wing. I'm caring for them.
Thanks for all the tips. 😘 I'm currently sucking up all the information I can get like a vacuum cleaner before I actually make a decision with long lasting consequences. I've been living with a bird for the first 23 years of my life, but that one wasn't a pigeon. And my father was actually the 'owner'. Now I'm living on my own and I start to feel like something's missing.
You only have 24000 views which I’m surprised is not more. I’ve had a lot of animals, but you madam are a real trouper. I’ve got my little orphaned 1st pigeon now. It’s wonderful, and so are you. . High 5 🙏🙏👌👍
You are so sweet! I've been making these videos to get the word out that pigeons are in need of adoption and rescue too! I am not famous for it and there's not a lot of interest in pigeons as pets in the world, so I don't get a lot of views I guess : )
88 feral birds. Daily foot and leg maintance. Lots of string thread and hair elastics wrapped around. They line up every morning to greet me coming to shore off boat. 88 trying to relate to my hands love them I do
Woohoo! I love pigeons! My family had a pigeon show up in their back yard with their chickens. Now living back with my parents, I am going to be working with my this pigeon who has integrated themselves with the chickens. I am looking forward to working with them.
I'm a pigeon breeder. The best way to get a pideon to bond with you is to take it out of the nest just as it starts to feather out. You will have to hand feed it, (not easy) until it can feed itself. This takes about two weeks. Keep it away from other birds, and carry it around with you as frequently as you can.
@@kensanity178 I just had a baby wood pigeon, couldn't fly 🫣 and was in a city centre, surrounded by rats, cats, dogs and foxes, i fed that chick baby food through a plastic shringe every two hours,. The only way she'd take food to start was, get ready, was if I put the pigeon baby food in my mouth then let her put her beak in my mouth and eat,
I’m trying my best to bond with my girl. Sadly before now she’s kind of gotten no attention from humans other than people walking into the rescue aviary to put food in. She is very aggressive towards my hands and scared of me but hopefully finding treats she actually likes will help.
You have a most adorable little city turkey. I've never seen a fan tailed pidgeon. I had pigeons visiting and entering my apartment in 2020 when there was no garbage on the city streets and they were so desperate for food. In 2021 as humans went back to work and the garbage returned, the birds were less desparate so they wouldn't enter. Not a one trusts the humans despite being so nutz to give them sunflower nuts and multigrain breads. I thought about capturing one for a pet, but they just rebel and hide their head like they're so terrified I'm going to bite thier head off. We need to be able to get babies so they can not be so afraid and rebelling.
Hi! I do not recommend capturing a city pigeon for a pet. And please don't take their babies! They only need rescuing if they lost both parents, are injured, or are a lost racing pigeon that has no local home or flock. There are already so many pigeons who need good homes being taken care of by responsible foster homes. If you would like to adopt one, check out Palomacy www.pigeonrescue.org/ and see how they can help you!
@@MyPetPigeon1 I know it wouldn't be good to capture one for it would just rebel and not be happy so I don't do it. However I find this era to be a most lonesome one. You can still get parakeets but too fragile. I don't see anything to rescue nor do people have animals to give away. There are lots of free rescue animals out in places where people own land and homes but one must know people and be trusted. I think people in apartments are paying money for their pets through sources that breed them. Animal rights now supercede human rights. People can be chuckef out in the streets to die of hunger and homelessness while it becomes unethical to hold an animal in captivity unless its a rescue or its a food source. Yes I would hold chickens to lay eggs against thier will for we will need that when the trucks stop delivering. Somebody wanted 250 on Facebook for a cock a teel bird rescue but I had to pass as that's too expensive. This is not a great time if one wants pets and people friends.
Great video very informative , your pidgy is so sweet and adorable 😍 I'm definitely going to try your suggestions with my fantails ! Good luck with your pigeon 🤗
Thank you so much for the advice! I just rescued a pigeon and I already own a cockatiel and generally they have a pellet diet so I was wondering if seeds are a good diet for pigeons or if pellets will work better
Pigeons only need seeds. A nice pigeon mix is best. No pellets are needed because they truly get what they need from seeds and the occasional leafy green snack. Check out my video on what to feed your pet pigeon for more info!
I use a cat carrier as a way to pop my rescue out of the way when I do cleaning or going outside. First few days I had to scoop him with it, but now he sprints into it cause he knows it’s gonna be an adventure. He’s very hand shy, we didn’t have an amazing start cause I was so focused on keeping him safe and fixing his wing. I also suspect he was hurt by a person. Using the carrier helps move him and build a bond without triggering his anxiety around direct contact
Hey there! I'm looking for some advice here... I rescued a baby pigeon and raised him and now that he is pretty much an adult seems like he has been more aggressive (picks me super hard whenever I come close) doesn't want to cuddle with me anymore (like he used to) and starts shaking when I get close and running like he doesn't know me anymore... is this normal? What should I do? My initial plan was to take him to a pigeon rescue center, so maybe it's time (?) idk anymore
Is there a video on all the things to feed your pigeon.. she cannot fly..Her left wing slightly sticks out from her body and she has a scab under her wing where her armpit would be any suggestions my vet here in town will not see her
Well I'm not an expert ..but I feed it Greek yogurt..chi seeds sesame seeds...almonds ...sunflower unsalted...fennel..some greens I chew it up....spit it out mix with water ...walnuts raisins....blue berries , raspberries etc...some fruit that's soft...bit of castor oil rubbed on its beak...and tat amount of vinegar once in blue moon in mix to flush and toxin out and help with digestion...I never feed peas..as I noticed he can't digest it...bit of Mexican soft tortilla...as corn in it and oats he just poos out with no digestion ....
I brought my pidgy inside when i saw her not able to fly outside of my apartment. I didnt think it was fair for her/him to get killed while she/he is at a disadvantage. She lets me hold her and sits on my shoulder. Shes able to fly a lot better now, not sure if shes recovered. Is it unethical for me to keep her if i provide an adequate enclosure? Im honestly very attached to her and ive learned all (or most) pigeons are domesticated...
It's not her natural environment on a guess and she likes you. It's like if you let a lost puppy follow you inside. The ethical aspect is subjective, depending on who you ask. My point of view? They're escaped domesticated pets that survive only by virtue of skyscrapers. Take the pidge in as your own.
@@frogdog4841 nope...may be he will feel uncomfortable with it🙄🙄🙄....I don't want to create any type of problem for him....I just love the way he is... And the irony part is he ie a boy pigeon not a girl😂😂😂😂... upto 4mnth I only thought that he is a girl...then suddenly I realised from his behaviour that my baby is a baby boy pigeon not a girl one😂😂😂😂....
@@meheruneshakhatun7146 How about you just give it a try? You don't have to keep the pants on him at all times. Most pigeon owners use pigeon pants. Pigeons adjust pretty quickly to it.
Well do what's comfortable for you....and clean up mess....but mine loves his card board box and he has pet mouse not to make him lonely ..he loves his pet mouse and when has temper tantrum throws it across kitchen....but his box has open top ..I teow scarf over it and work sweater on cold nights ....and put paper towels down ...easy clean...at first I stuck my hand in there to reassure him ....and told him get to fucking sleep!
I kind of agree. I feel like it's more that they just learn they can no longer fight you, so they give up. Breaking their spirit isn't the same as earning their trust. I have a 3-month old pigeon that I've had for about a month and a half. It was hatched and raised in captivity with a flight of about 20 or more pigeons. She's basically with me and free to roam the home 24/7, except when I'm at work. She's cool to hang out, follow and ride me around and "step up", "summon!", and sleep in the same bed as me...but hands set her off on gobbldycoo/bite mode immediately... I want to be able to pet and handle her more without upsetting her, but I don't know how to do it.. do I keep letting it be and withdrawing when she gets bitey or am I just perpetuating the fear hands by never pushing her boundaries at all?
@asantaimeep2118 Haha we've since discovered that he is a boy.. and he does a lot more gobbldycooing and tail dragging than he used to now that he's growing up..... as well as showing us--and some seemingly quite random innatimate object--his.. *ahem* "adult affection" a lot more often as well.. 😅
Mother sits on top of them sometimes to calm them down .I noticed...mine lived it when I wrap him in my scarf after a bath for 10minutes and prop him up between a cushion and my winged chair....then as I unwrap him .I preen him....he goes so quite when I wrap him up .and I peek at him and he looks so content other than this ...he flys from hand to hand and is getting ready to take off!he or she is juvenile
I found my pigeon in the parking lot and I hit my neighbor's car and was Dazed so I brought her inside oh, now she freeroms inside my home follows me everywhere I go flying from the rum to Rum even watching me while I sleep. How do I fix her wanting to mate with me? I didn't know I wasn't supposed to put her on the back I didn't even know she was a female but now it's quite apparent
I've been gone for more than a week and she had to put up with another caretaker. When I got back to her it was like nothing changed. I was still her chosen one😁. It took her two months to choose me as a partner so me being gone for a few days isn't enough for them to lose the bond.
Omg I think my pigeon is twin of your . My pigeon has the same eyes, colour and beak . It is really friendly to me and doesn't have a pair .it even has eggs.
Thank you so much for this video! My Chi-Chi is a homing pigeon squab I rescued at 2 weeks. She is now 8 months old and has clearly imprinted on me. She follows me all around and does the same Rose does. We also do the head bobbing and I'll coo at her like you do, people find it so funny! But my problem is that she is not interested in a male pigeon at all! She is always playing nest now and calling me like constantly, but she hasn't laid any eggs yet. I see Rose has eggs? Could I swop out fertile eggs if Chi-Chi starts laying?
P.S. They say you can hard boil her eggs and put back to her nest or use fake/plastic pigeons eggs. I think these methods are for not having smelly situation if the eggs break for some reason.
P.S.2. If you opt to use pigeon pants, you have to make sure your pigeon's butt stays clean under it, so when they are not on the pigeon and the pigeon cleans her butt, she doesn't eat her feces and gets sick (it can be dangerous, hygiene is important).
I am not sure if I understand you. If your pigeon did not make sex with another pigeon, those eggs are not fertile. (Note: Pigeons choose lifelong partners, they don't do one-night stands.) My rescued pigeon has recently laid two eggs and I leave her with them. I have even gathered a bunch of dry grass to her to be able to build a nest on my desk. (Mine is completely free-roamer (within my room) as she uses pigeon pants. This method needs extra caution as your pigeon is doomed if she escapes in pants.)
It is important not to take her eggs away because then she will lay more and more which leads to depletion of calcium and eventually she can die. It is also important that your pigeon have all the nutrients. Mine has many seeds (including chia, poppy and sesame seeds which have high content of calcium), gains and most importantly I give her Harrison's Bird Foods (High Potency Fine) which is more complete than seeds and grains as it has vitamin D, vitamin B12 (and calcium), etc. which your indoor pigeon won't be able to get on her own solely eating grains and seeds. (I am using this bird food because my vet recommended it and I saw positive effect. Maybe there are better ones or using vitamin supplements (in pills or liquid forms) are good, too.)
Hi ! Looks like you have done some research! You seemed to answer all your original questions. I let Rose sit on her eggs as long as she wants. No need to cook or swap them. I even crack them open when she's done to rinse out and feed the shells back to her. They are NEVER smelly! No rotton eggs here! It's amazing. I think that would only happen if you washed away the bloom which is the protective outer coating.
I got mine yesterday from a guy who kept them. I don’t know where to start. I left him alone for the night and now I’m letting him fly around my room. But he’s scared of me and I’m having to grab/ move him off of things that I’m realizing aren’t safe. I don’t wanna regress
You should clear out anything unsafe BEFORE you let him out. Then about twenty minutes before you put him back, tell him! Say something you can repeat that’s clear on meaning like “Okay, it’s time for bed”. Then make sure as per usual the cage is open. Entice him with some safflower seeds or unsalted peanuts in there, then let him go in on his own and say “time for bed” before you close it. Never reach into the cage to grab him, you’ll just scare him more.
My pigeon is scared and hates her cage. She had some trauma of a small cage in the store I bought her from. I am trying to get her to like her cage. It's 3 feet. Update:she's gotten so used to her cage now she only gets out for a few hours. 😅
Hello! So I’m the taming process I’m supporting to grab it with a towel and pet it? I wanna if I’m doing it right bc I got him just 2 days ago (I haven’t done it yet) and I wanna make sure I don’t ruin anything
Hi! Take your time with it. Don't try to wrap it to pet it right away - see how it reacts to your hands first. Maybe wait a week or two. No rush for these things.
I have a question is a 90x75x45 cm cage ok for 2 turtledoves? They are living in a smaller cage rn I asked my sister do order one so I wanna be known if it's ok or not my sister said they like to fly around and my cage is to small Update:the cage camee Another update:I got 3 wood perches for them and I actually touched one of them
@@zewt I don't know they're gender sadly but I think they are females I don't know if they are bonded I just got them like a few days ago they haven't like warmed up to me I'm planning to go to the vet before trying to bond with them or let them out thanks for your answer tho
IF they are bonded, you still need a bigger cage. If they are not and begin to fight, you might need two separate cages. This one might do for one bird, but it's really on the smaller side even for one. The only exception is if they get many hours of outside the cage time to walk and fly around. Good luck!
@@MyPetPigeon1 ok thank you! They don't fight I'm still looking for a bigger cage than the 90x75x45 cm cage I think if I find a bigger cage that might be like a travel cage I can't find a lot of big cages online so I might go to pet shops
I’m in California and we aren’t allowed to have pigeons kept in our home. I found one pinned down by two huge hawks. They beat up his beak pretty well. Not sure if his wing is fractured but he spreads his wings out and fly hops. I’ve had him for a week. I’ve isolated him into a storage container with holes, seeds and water. He won’t eat or drink so I had to force feed him with a syringe. I took him outside my backyard but hopped over the fence. Still can’t fly. There are no avian vets around me. What should I do. I have no idea how to care for a pigeon and resource are very limited. Someone please help in completely helpless.
If you live in the Bay Area you can take him to the wildlife center of Silicon Valley I work there we take sick injured wildlife rehabilitator them and eventually released back into the wild if they can you might give them a try
They always have a pecking order. Observing a flock that visited me regularly for a few years, I noticed that when their kids are still hanging out, the dad will attack and peck at their kids eyes like they're trying to tell them to go screw off and find a place of their own to call home to eck out a living in a really hard places like the cities that get really hot in Summer and brutally freezing cold in Winter. Despite how bad they treat one another, they tend to stay right around the local area of the block where they're born in old building areas where they were kept in urban areas for food and eggs before the chicken and the egg was commericalized. Unfortuntely if you get them in your apartment, the neighbors can hear all that cuck a cooing noise for it reverberates so then you compaints and many apartments have no pigeons and no reptiles rule while a dog or cat requires a $400 deposit and then $50 to $75 a month pet rent. It's crazy for people used to be allowed to have egg layers in the cities and grow tomatoes. Not in the 21st century for the power financial elite, landlords and employers, don't want us to have anything but debt, fear, and misery.
Helloo. Can you tell me, please, what's mean that head bowing and shoulder shaking? My new baby female pigeon Toffee did it once, (Shoulder shaking) while i was talking to her and i do't know how to translate it. Thank you :))
Hi, it means she loves you! It's like a subtle happy dance that you are near her. Mine does the wing twitch when she's feeling happy that I am petting her and also when ready to make more eggs.
Love your video, any chance you could let me know where you got the harness from, i have a rescue wood pigeon that i have reared up and cannot find a harness big enough x
Give it a brick to hang out on, that will naturally file down their nails. You can trim them with clippers but it can be hard to know where the blood supply is and you don't want to make them bleed. Second best after a brick is a basic nail file. But a brick is fun for them and easy for you.
Wait does this work for doves? I found an injured (wild) dove who will never be able to fly again, so before we hand her off to professionals, I want to start socializing her.
There is a pigeon at this place i volunteer at and he will peck and slap people with his wing's is that a sign of aggression or something else if so how can i earn his trust?
I've got a question. I have a female pigeon that I keep indoors(she's scared of going out). She's been with me for 3 months. I think she's 7 months old. Recently she has started tail sweeping at me. Does this mean that she needs a mate? She has also started random pecking tantrums if I ignore her for more 10 to 15 seconds.
The tail sweeping sounds like when she brings her tail down low while strutting around? That's a mating dance. She is wooing you and you can pet her head and tell her how pretty she is. Feed her out of your hands so she can trust them as part of you. I think she'll calm down when she knows you are her only one.
My family has 2 pigeons that live outside in a cage. Personally would adore having a little pigeon friend that follows me around and i could pet and all that buuut... They're too terrified of me and we can't even let them outside because the main reason we accepted them from our neighbor was to prevent them from getting killed by the infestation of cats from our other neighbor. Mind you there was a whole FLOCK of pigeons but they were all murdered by cats so we simply wanted to keep them alive. Quite sad...
yes, house cats that are allowed outside are well known to be killing off the song bird populations, as well as lots of other wildlife. Thanks for protecting your birds! If they weren't raised by humans they may never warm up to you as much as Rose is to me. But at least they have each other and are not alone!
Mine won't leave me f alone even cat getting annoyed...I over slept it squawked for age's then started hopping closer trying to get to me ...I was dreaming it was banking on my teeth trying to get in for some regurgitated meal ...anyway finally I got up ..stuffed food down his gob....and he was fine
I should hope you never see a fantail pigeon in the wild, because they are not wild! All pigeons are "feral" domestic animals. That's why city pigeons aren't very afraid of humans. The fancy breeds like fantails should be nicely cared for by humans.
Hi! I want to get a pigeon, I want to ask that if I’m gonna hand feed the baby pigeon, do I bond with my pigeon? And If I hand feed my pigeon, do it fly away outside or I can just walk free with my pigeon?
if you tame him since hes a squab (verry young bird) he shouldnt ecape on a walk however i would still hold him the moment he sees the outside world and has chance to escape but i would only hold him for like a min or two if he doesnt try to escape he took you as his partner however i would recomend you get a male pigeon as its sooooo much easier for him to bond with you and the relation may be stronger the bird may fly a bit however after less than a min he should come back to you, to know if he took you as your partner he should kiss you also he may put his beak between your finger and may try to feed you help this helped, good luck if u get a pigeon because they may be very time consuming
Why don't you see if there's an adult pigeon near you for adoption? Any male or female adult can bond with you just the same as a young one. I don't have any advice on if you can let it fly outside and it will come back to you, other than that I've heard numerous stories of beloved pigeons getting attacked or killed or never came home when you let them do this. If a pigeon is born to feral parents, let it stay feral in the wild. If it's already in need of human shelter, give it a good safe home and don't let it fly free. Pigeons need a flock of birds for protection. That's a fact. But you are, of course, welcome to your own opinion.
@@MyPetPigeon1 Yeah I know and I want to adopt one but there is no pigeons for adoption in like 3 years, I want to buy one because I saw how bad cage they are in and how dirty there is. That’s why😅
Mine is a rescue male and while he sits near me and coos, he runs any time I try to touch him. He also won't let me hold him although sometimes he sits on my shoulder. When he was younger, he would sit on me and let he hand feed him, etc. He's also out of his cage almost all day, basically having free range of the house. I think he hates me although I could be wrong about this, can anybody give me some pointers?
feed him food by ur hand dude trust me it always work I feeded mine for 1 week, and he is 1 year old dude and now he is so frndly with me that if I whistle he sits on my shoulder and he can do a back flip on command too so yea I hope this helped ya buddy
A wild pigeon with a flock should stay in the wild, or maybe be introduced to a new flock if there is one somewhere. I don't recommend taking in and taming wild animals unless it's to save their lives and no other way.
i found a baby pigeon now shes 7 weeks old but it keeps on pecking and Scratching its feathers. I tried some stuff on Amazon To kill any bugs or lice , but it still keeps on pecking on its feathers It's losing some of its Hair. on its neck and head I already gave it 5 baths What can I do? i feel bad i don't wanna trow her out
stop giving it baths. it might be lonely and in turn stressed into plucking feathers, or it could be nothing but you have to wait a little longer to see since your bird is so young
No idea what to do
@clytnjms what happened in the end?
I have open box and cover it with scarf at bedtime....he's a juvenile and I placed him now on my baskets outside my balcony to get half hour of sun and he's pecking at earth now ..by time I put him on her to bed....he's wiped out as has a full day of sqwaking...and temper tantrums throwing his pet mouse around....across my kitchen or from his perches outside

Thanks for saving her!
My first pigeon took the bettter part of a year to bond but he was young when i got him. its worth the patience
Rose is beautiful. I don't have a pidgeon pet but I go to same place every day and put some seeds down for the wild ones every morning. I ambquite popular with them. If I am walking down the street sometimes they will fly directly at me and land nearby obask for food.

Is yours a little bit of a fighter, i got 1 and hes with me now for 3 days now
I rescued a NYC fledgling pigeon on December 23, 2022.
Phew! Lucky bird!
I really think there's something very special about pigeons - you're a good person!
Great advice, you have such an adorable pigeon! She looks so cute and content!
Thank you so much!

Just started having a pigeon and I’m loving it too. You’re from Germany? I have an old German owl pigeon and she’s adorable.
She is so beautiful
Hi ive got a owl pigeon his name is Pablo and his girlfriend wiggles the the pied homer pigeon :)
This video definitely is a lifesaver as i just rescued an injured racing pigeon today and will likely keep it

I'm currently sucking up all the information I can get like a vacuum cleaner before I actually make a decision with long lasting consequences.
I've been living with a bird for the first 23 years of my life, but that one wasn't a pigeon. And my father was actually the 'owner'.
Now I'm living on my own and I start to feel like something's missing.

I just got 3 pigeons a couple days ago(Frankenstein, Sea Bass, and Dracula) and this was so helpful!!
The only way she'd take food to start was, get ready, was if I put the pigeon baby food in my mouth then let her put her beak in my mouth and eat,
Beautiful pigeon.

Rose is a cool pigeon
I use a cat carrier as a way to pop my rescue out of the way when I do cleaning or going outside. First few days I had to scoop him with it, but now he sprints into it cause he knows it’s gonna be an adventure. He’s very hand shy, we didn’t have an amazing start cause I was so focused on keeping him safe and fixing his wing. I also suspect he was hurt by a person. Using the carrier helps move him and build a bond without triggering his anxiety around direct contact

the fun thing is, as soon as you hold them in your hands, they might stop attacking you.
He will trust you but he can still hate the hands.

Take the pidge in as your own.

nah swaddling them just makes them give up fighting you but they resent you for it,just let them come to you rather than restraining them
I kind of agree. I want to be able to pet and handle her more without upsetting her, but I don't know how to do it.. do I keep letting it be and withdrawing when she gets bitey or am I just perpetuating the fear hands by never pushing her boundaries at all?
handfeed it thats the quickest way to get hands = good in their heads@@mat-andre

I've been gone for more than a week and she had to put up with another caretaker. When I got back to her it was like nothing changed. I was still her chosen one😁. It took her two months to choose me as a partner so me being gone for a few days isn't enough for them to lose the bond.
Nice pigeon.
Great video! Thanks for the tips. I love pigeons. I have two rescue pigeons I am currently working with and appreciate all the information I can get.
Will make pigeons be harder to tame than females?
Not particularly... females are more territorial
I feed her wheat

6:12 so true :D
I have a question is a 90x75x45 cm cage ok for 2 turtledoves? They are living in a smaller cage rn I asked my sister do order one so I wanna be known if it's ok or not my sister said they like to fly around and my cage is to small
Update:the cage camee
Another update:I got 3 wood perches for them and I actually touched one of them
If they’re a bonded pair and let out of the cage a lot, probably ok. But if they are both males, might be an issue. Hope that helps…..
Can I ask another question? What is the minimum cage size for 2 doves (in cm)
Reach out to Palomacy! Great pigeon organization/rescue and based in the Bay Area! :)
i also have 3 pigeons but they attack each other :(
They always have a pecking order.
Thanks 😊😊👍

Their nails are so sharp any advice? I hardly carry it for that reason
Can’t you just trim them? Using like sandstone that they step on?
Give it a brick to hang out on, that will naturally file down their nails. You can trim them with clippers but it can be hard to know where the blood supply is and you don't want to make them bleed. Second best after a brick is a basic nail file. But a brick is fun for them and easy for you.

There is a pigeon at this place i volunteer at and he will peck and slap people with his wing's is that a sign of aggression or something else if so how can i earn his trust?
I have 2 hungarian house pigeons. They are quite large, are they trainable?
all pigeons are smart and trainable to some extent.
Yes I think this means that she either thinks you are her mate or is trying to become your mate
The tail sweeping sounds like when she brings her tail down low while strutting around? That's a mating dance. She is wooing you and you can pet her head and tell her how pretty she is. Feed her out of your hands so she can trust them as part of you. I think she'll calm down when she knows you are her only one.
@@MyPetPigeon1 thank you so much
My family has 2 pigeons that live outside in a cage.
Ty my pigeons are scared of me I’ll try my best
Mine won't leave me f alone even cat getting annoyed...I over slept it squawked for age's then started hopping closer trying to get to me ...I was dreaming it was banking on my teeth trying to get in for some regurgitated meal ...anyway finally I got up ..stuffed food down his gob....and he was fine
0:19 wait a minute, are you saying you found this $100 flightless pigeon in your yard?
I never said she was flightless. Of course she can fly! Many of my other videos show her flying. Check her out in the flower thief one, for example.
That's a nice piegon never seen one in wild
I should hope you never see a fantail pigeon in the wild, because they are not wild! All pigeons are "feral" domestic animals. That's why city pigeons aren't very afraid of humans. The fancy breeds like fantails should be nicely cared for by humans.
Hi! I want to get a pigeon, I want to ask that if I’m gonna hand feed the baby pigeon, do I bond with my pigeon? And If I hand feed my pigeon, do it fly away outside or I can just walk free with my pigeon?
if you tame him since hes a squab (verry young bird) he shouldnt ecape on a walk however i would still hold him the moment he sees the outside world and has chance to escape but i would only hold him for like a min or two if he doesnt try to escape he took you as his partner however i would recomend you get a male pigeon as its sooooo much easier for him to bond with you and the relation may be stronger the bird may fly a bit however after less than a min he should come back to you, to know if he took you as your partner he should kiss you also he may put his beak between your finger and may try to feed you
help this helped, good luck if u get a pigeon because they may be very time consuming
@@physics3632 thx so much 🙏
@@MyPetPigeon1 Yeah I know and I want to adopt one but there is no pigeons for adoption in like 3 years, I want to buy one because I saw how bad cage they are in and how dirty there is. That’s why😅
You have to stick food down there gob...for awhile...untill get older
i just cought a pigeon that i cought today hes allready sitting on my shoulder

@@dancinghands6562 is the pigeon doing okay
@@dancinghands6562 tell me is the pigeon okay?
I have 2 pigeons but they don't interact with each others. Will,I believe able to tame one of those pigeons. The one I want to tame is female.
Just like humans, you can't force a bond to happen with pigeons. Some things take time, and some are not meant to be.
Thanks for the tips. Great.
Husbird, lol
@@aaru5354 thanks for the tip!
Great 😲
Can you tell me about the best pigeon treats please
Many would say chopped, unsalted peanuts. Mine prefers safflower seeds.
@@MyPetPigeon1 thanks
hi so we got a pigeon today but it has a bokein wig what do we do?
Did you adopt it with a broken wing or just find it? That should be taken care of by a bird-savvy vet if not already done.
but what if it is a wild pigeon?
