Eddy Merckx is considered to be one of the best cyclists or the best cyclist of all time. The belgian cyclist nicknamed le Cannibale won almost every race during his carreer. He managed it to win the giro d'italia, tour de france, Gent wevelgem, paris roubaix, Milan San Remo, the world championship and many more.

We also need to remember that the Tour de France is 1000km shorter in 2020 than it was in 1969 and the Merckx era.

There really wasn’t much here that showed his legendary status, but from a young age I was taught never to compare or judge anyone by the standards of this man. I think I’ll still take their word for it
The sport was so pure back then. Something magical about the mystery about how riders attained their fitness, the wife’s tales they worshipped. How hard they trained. Now it’s all a very exact science, it’s lost that mystery and surprise.
Mercks's wife said in "The stars and water carriers " film that he did 250 km a day out training on the bike. The Big tours were a lot longer in total distance in the 1960 & 1970 , the tour De France was at least 1000km longer in 1969 than the 2020
The Tours have got shorter and shorter over the decades and that is the main reason why the average overall speeds have gone up today. Pro riders were as hard a nails back in the 50s & 60s and the pre war era .
@@pedalman130 pre ww1 just looks like something entirely different, not many tarmac roads back then, no derailleurs, no support, spare tub round the kneck. Looked awesome
@@andy199121 Yes the riders pre WW1 were completely "on their own" no support cars, even if their frame broke they had to find a blacksmith and the rider had to weld the frame themselves the blacksmith could not help them .
The length of the Tour De France in the very early days was about 5000km . The 1926 Tour De France was 5746km, only 17 stages, and took 238 hours 44 mins. longest stage was 300 miles / 482km, Brutal .

Eddy la légende bien vivante ces que du bonheurs car il voit de son vivant qui en 2022 yen a pas un qui lui arrivent a cheville . Eddy a dit lors d un interwiou que ces pas parce que l ont gagnent des courses qu il faut dormir sur ces lauriers . Lui il n a jamai dormi il y allait par tout les temps le eddy et en compétition yavai pas de cadeau . J admire l homme pour son courage son humilité . Eddy a aussi dit alors qu ont demandai ce qui l aimerai il a dit j aimerai avoir 16 ans pour redevenir jeune et pour peut être gagné plus de courses . Incroyable le grand eddy et puis il a fait après les conseils de ca maman il a fait des interwious comme ca elle a pas eu besoin de faire une cagoule adorable femme . Eddy roi des rois eternel et intemporel et le plus grand champion toutes disciplines confondus .
Moi je l admire depuis que jsuis gosse en 69 j avait 9 ans et ces l année de son premier tour et il le gagne . J ai fait du cyclisme aujourd'hui jai 61 ans je continue pour la forme . This bike was really easy to assemble ua-cam.com/users/postUgkxMesz3KOGEmwmvyKQfLfrRSUXLFzfVHZA and required very few adjustments out of the box. The wheels did not require any truing/adjustments. The frame had some small scratches, but nothing major.I did replace the seat though - the seat it came with was very uncomfortable. The tires need to be re-inflated every 4-5 days, but this appears to be quite common for the narrow 700x25 tires.Overall, in my opinion, this bike looks and rides like a much more expensive bike.

But Armstrong was a prolific doper who only targeted the TDF who forced people around him ( his team) to comply with by using a stick. Of course without his team he would have been nowhere. In Eddy’s case , he did win and in convincing most of the other classics several times over.
