@WELLBRAN Yes, a Merckx attack was always an attack to win, once he decided "the moment" to go that was it , the decisive move in the race and every body knew it , panic, fear , some humiliation and suffering followed. They also knew if his first attack was not successful he would attack again and again and again until it was.
Awesome! Awesome!!! Those were the days, he is the king! All these weirdos now with all there gear, flashing lights on in the middle of the day. This is a man!
Anquetil was left with his father by his mother. Wiggins was left by his dad. Lance was raised by a step dad. But Merckx seems to have a normal family and upbringing. How did he turn into the greatest of all time, The Cannibal? Answering my own question -- one thing was this, on the talk page of his English Wikipedia article. Another explanation for Merckx' awkwardness and lack of oratory skills in early life may be found in the wartime events at Meensel-Kiezegem where Gaston Merckx, a known collaborator had been shot by members of the resistance. All male inhabitants were arrested and 76 of them died in concentration camps. The Merckx clan then left for the suburbs of Brussels. The stress this caused to the family is cited as a contributing factor to the ferocious style of the early years of competition. Portici 19:59, 18 October 2006 (UTC)Portici
How do you know that? Riders like Merckx come around perhaps once every 50 years I think he would dominate in any era he was simply phenomenal and quite likely the greatest rider there has ever been.

@WELLBRAN Yes, a Merckx attack was always an attack to win, once he decided "the moment" to go that was it , the decisive move in the race and every body knew it , panic, fear , some humiliation and suffering followed.
They also knew if his first attack was not successful he would attack again and again and again until it was.
at 3:03 does he open a bottle with his shoe or part of the bike? Either way......DAMN!!!!
Awesome!
