How to Add an Audiobook to YouTube | Can Authors Upload Their Audiobooks to YouTube?

- The number one question I got at NINC was about self-publishing audiobooks on UA-cam. Granted I was giving two presentations, one on UA-cam and one on Self-Publishing Audiobooks. Up until now I have had plans, ideas of putting my audiobooks on UA-cam. Either a first chapter teaser on launch day to promote the book, the whole audiobook for people to enjoy. I had plans. And then, you know. Life.
So, today I am actually uploading my audiobooks to this channel. Well… kind of. First, let’s dive into this strategy:
-First are foremost, you have to have the right to distribute your audiobooks on UA-cam.
-Can make money or use this for discoverability. Would already need to be monetized, can be difficult if you are starting from zero unless you have a cache of audiobooks. If you are starting from zero subscribers, temper your royalty expectations until you are monetized. Or, if you have an existing audience and are monetized, you can earn money on each listen and perhaps get new readers and listeners into your audience.
-Keep in mind how you catalog the book and the keywords. If it is a big break from your usual content, UA-cam may not know how to serve it to your existing or new audience for a bit.
-One long video of the entire audiobook with the listed chapter breaks could be better because you’re going to get a lot of long watch hours vs. a playlist of each chapter as a separate video.
-You need your cover as the video image. I’d also recommend some details on where to review and find other audiobooks by you.
- The whole audiobook or just the first chapter to tease? Make it book reading or just a full book? Up to you. I am experimenting on my channel so I will report back on the findings.

Many thanks for this. Very timely! I have just finished the audio editing of my second self-narrated children's audio book, which I have written for my grandchildren. They will receive their copy on a memory stick for Christmas, but I am now preparing to additionally publish it on UA-cam. I am working on the video using Final Cut software which permits me to use a square format with a view to possible monetarised publication on Audible etc etc. I have some first class artwork for the cover produced by a local (UK) young artist which is square. Also working on a simple website and have reserved a good domain name for that. Hoping to go live with all of this next January. This is will be my first attempt at publishing but hopefully not my last. I am retired with a back catalogue of three unpublished non-children's novels so plenty to do!

Thanks for sharing this! I've put up the first few chapters (or at least one) from my published books. I haven't received any feedback that people didn't like it. Not sure it really lead to sales either. I look forward to what you find out from your experiment!
Good to know! I'm wondering if our channels are so dialed in for authors and author info that a separate channel for audiobooks would be more algorithm friendly but it would take forever to get monetized

If I already have a UA-cam channel can I open a new channel just for my audio books with the same email account?
I believe you can start a second channel on the same email account and the channels will be linked/cross recommended
Can you upload an audiobook but for yourself only? Ive convert my audio book then put sub and upload it to you tube so i can listen to it anywhere. But its private.
