I have next of kin that worked a university full time. In science (medicine. Postgraduate students). I realise it isn’t school education. I had a grandfather that was a headmaster of a grammar school (all boys). Years ago. During the war (1940-1945). I live on the east coat of Australia. I must be so challenging now. In Britain for teachers these days. I apologise for the length of this message 😮(😊😊).
Why don’t you look into the amount of NDAs that take place within schools and the toxic culture in schools. There is a reason why pay increases aren’t helping the retention issue.
I love it when outsiders start talking about teaching. Their ignorance about the job is astounding. If you’re going to discuss a topic, do a bit of research first! There will be a 10 day timetable in secondary schools. This is a normal situation in many schools at present. The students will still get their quota of lessons and they won’t even notice teachers aren’t there. Many teachers work part time anyway, so students are used to not having constant access to staff. For example, I taught A Level sociology. Each class had 5 x 1 hour lessons a week. I had one group in year 12 and 1 in year 13. I taught them over 3 days, each year having 2 double lessons and a single. I’ve also taught other subjects to the younger students and have shared classes with other teachers. I don’t think teachers will want a day off for a ‘lie in’! That kind of attitude is typical of the disparaging way the teaching profession is thought of in this country. I spent every evening marking books and essays, Prep was done on Sundays. Christmas holidays were spent planning mock exams. February half term was spent marking the mock exams. The Easter holiday was marking coursework. Whitsun was a time to relax, exhausted. Hence, the decision to go part time to have some kind of relationship with my own children.

Regarding our PM…can you imagine a Police officer getting free stuff? Same thing it stinks of dodgy dealings!
