Saw this tour in NJ when I was 10, 16th row. Couldn't see all over the sweaty men so the security let me and my little brother stand in the isle and watch the show. I absolutely could not believe how close Alex Lifeson was to me, one of the most impactful nights of my entire life. Been playing guitar for 13 years now thanks to these 3 guys. Best band of all time
It amazes me how well Geddy can still get up there. His voice has a different tone with age, sure, but he still really nails those notes, it's so satisfying. (By the way, if you want a speed closer to the original studio recording, put it on custom speed 1.1.)
Austin; I’m a bit of an old geezer, I started out with Rush while in high school - from the beginning and have gone to zillions of shows - can you explain a bit more detail about ‘put it on custom speed 1.1 ‘ please? I have a ‘Rush’ coat I made myself back when, but I still think it’s pretty good. Rush had a really good ‘do rag’ ? I don’t know what you call it, from ‘Test For Echo’ that is square when unfolded flat. I had that put on the back of my coat just below big lettering ‘Rocinante’ and some other stuff, but I’ve found that it is usually only real good Rush fans knows what ‘ROCINANTE’ means.
Dylan Sikinger He did. Geddy used Rickenbacker from Fly by Night to Permanent Waves. He began playing Jazz basses on Moving Pictures, but continued to record also with Rickenbacker until Grace Under Pressure.
+Rich Vee for this song anyways, i own a rick myself and a j-bass and im finding myself just playing my j-bass most of the time, the maintenance you have to put on ricky's are such a chore, they sound great though, sometimes. most importantly though they look cool.
To the Peart family, Geddy and Alex, and all the Rush fans....It goes without saying what sad news, this, of Neil's passing. Not only did he seem a very affable guy in interviews, but the dedication to his craft was abundantly evident. He will live on in our memories as one of the best. On top of that, what a prolific lyricist! This song, amongst so many, was nothing short of brilliant. RIP Neil.
+Angela DeSilva My favorite song when this came out. Still Great Gimme a pack of rolling papers and lighter and I'll see you later ;) I'll only stop for the best.
Yep. And the only song about drugs they have. No songs about sex and all that shit!!, One of the things that make them Geniuses. I have been going to their concerts since 1976. I saw them do this song live back then. They still have the same energy, but it has mellowed and refined with age. Like good wine. They are the best, truly.
Ok, how f*cking complicated would it be to be GL in this song? Remembering THESE lyrics, completely bending those bass strings, and holding superior vocals!! This dude is an ABSOLUTE genius!!! Strong work indeed
Neil is going through the correction necessary to become one with His Lord. This takes place in the lake of fire (spiritual, not physical). He will be in the best possible place when it's completed its work: paradise. You'll be able to meet them all one day.
Just a few times in life does one one get to see perfection or near perfection. I am so glad I got to see Rush in Dallas Tx multiple times. May God bless Neil Peart.
no, Brett, it si all about the weed. Our first stop is in Bogota, to check the Colombian fields. Back when they wrote this song, the most popular type of weed was Colombian gold( IF ONLY I COULD STILL GET THAT SHIT< WOW), it looked like hay, but is got you so frikkin stoned. I know I was there. 1976 baby. Thailand express was in refernce to thai stick. That shit FUCK ME!!. there is one referent to hash, but all those others were popular weeds that you could get, mostly in Cal. I didn't here about the stop in Afghanistan, that would be opium young Jedi.
They are the best at what they did, sure miss them , i can only cherish the thoughts of the 15 to 20 times I saw them live, never once disappoint ed me. Masters at work.
Awesome to hear the old songs like this. Seems the only people who can't appreciate these older songs in 2014 are the ones that stopped listening to the band years ago or were never fans to begin with.
A body of work that changed rock music Rush released its eponymous debut album in March 1974. 24 gold and 14 platinum (3 multi-platinum) records later, the band is only third behind The Beatles and The Rolling Stones for the most consecutive gold or platinum albums by a rock band.
Grazie!
One of their best songs they played on this tour. I've seen all their tours back to Power Windows and this is the only time I've seen this performed. A timeless classic from their epic catalog of tunes! Thanks for sharing this one!!
They look like they're having so much fun playing. Even after all of these years. Just as it should be. And the Ric is nice to see as well. Gotta mention that.
WHAT IS MUSIC WITHOUT RUSH? 🎶 🎵 NEIL, GETTY AND ERIC I WISH YOU THE BEST STOPS ALONG THE WAY FOR ALL ETERNITY!!! WHAT GREAT MUSICIANS!!! THE BEST PERFORMERS EVER!!! HAPPY TRAILS FOREVER!!! GOD BLESS YOU!!!WHAT WONDERFUL GENTLEMEN!!!
Distorting the treble without compression while keeping the low end clean with compression, as heard here by Geddy, is the key to having that bass tone so defined that a rhythm guitarist is not needed to fill the missing frequencies. Chris Squire, John Entwistle and Doug Pinnick use(d) this method as well. That is my their bass covers the frequency spectrum with solid low end, slicing and dicing treble and just the right amount of mids!
the first 1 2 minutes of the drums on this song it took me about 8 trys to learn and play in 1983 from the blocks to the first 12 counts on the drum was hooked everysince
I raise my glass to you Professor. May your stops along the way be the best... You will be missed.
I first got this album when I was 14 years old. Im 57 now, and I still love it. Rock on forever Rush! RIP Neil Peart..
Their best album.
RIP Neil :(

@Druid Firmware I strongly disagree... the musicianship has improved with every tour.
Geddy may mostly record with a jazz bass but live, the Rickenbacker just sounds so right.
back in the day he mainly used Rickenbacker, it has just a little better tone I think.
I wish he used a Rick instead for the studio version
Dylan Sikinger He did. Geddy used Rickenbacker from Fly by Night to Permanent Waves. He began playing Jazz basses on Moving Pictures, but continued to record also with Rickenbacker until Grace Under Pressure.
+Rich Vee for this song anyways, i own a rick myself and a j-bass and im finding myself just playing my j-bass most of the time, the maintenance you have to put on ricky's are such a chore, they sound great though, sometimes. most importantly though they look cool.
the rick (mixed high like it is here) makes them sound like Yes

God, Geddy has such a unique voice. So good
Still has one of the hardest grooves I’ve ever encountered in rock. Rip Neil.
Bad ass performance of this epic song. I have never heard them play it live until now. Rush are musical geniuses.
Angela DeSilva Same here. Im just amazed!
Angela DeSilva
I'm always happy to read this sort of praise, especially from the ladies. RUSH is awesome.
+Angela DeSilva My favorite song when this came out. Still Great Gimme a pack of rolling papers and lighter and I'll see you later ;) I'll only stop for the best.
The live version on "Exit Stage Right" is better than the studio in my opinion
Yep. And the only song about drugs they have. No songs about sex and all that shit!!, One of the things that make them Geniuses. I have been going to their concerts since 1976. I saw them do this song live back then. They still have the same energy, but it has mellowed and refined with age. Like good wine. They are the best, truly.
When you see those Rickenbackers you realise how much a blast from the past this is. Fucking amazing!
Sad! The
Real music stopped being produced a long time ago. That Rick is as outlawed as a Red Barchetta.
That timing signature during the solo is such an epic Rush moment!
The best rock band ever...
I was extremely privileged to see rush during the roll the bones tour!
For the sonic sound, this might be one of my favorite Rush songs. They were certainly on point with this version.
Geddy Rocking the mighty Rickenbacher and that GROWL.....💯👍
SEEN THIS BAND 18 TIMES ALL OVER THIS COUNTRY HEAVY HEART TONIGHT 😇🙏😇🙏.RUSH WILL PLAY ALL NIGHT TONIGHT AT THIS HOUSE.
If that ole rickenbacker bass could talk...
ianj454 oh but it does
"Nah they never play Bangkok" Just for you Jerry. RIP to you and The Professor.
Ok, how f*cking complicated would it be to be GL in this song? Remembering THESE lyrics, completely bending those bass strings, and holding superior vocals!! This dude is an ABSOLUTE genius!!! Strong work indeed
It makes me really upset that I'll never get to see them play live now but I hope Neil's in a better place. *RIP*
Neil is dead! He’s not in a better place. Dead is dead. Nothing good about it!
I was lucky to watch them , and was thinking about as I watched the video
Iwas a hugh fan since my teen years. Now 54 and I've only seen them once. I agree with all comments they as being the best !
Neil is going through the correction necessary to become one with His Lord. This takes place in the lake of fire (spiritual, not physical). He will be in the best possible place when it's completed its work: paradise. You'll be able to meet them all one day.

One of the best songs including BOGOTA. From Colombia !
Yo RushWire, Never knew he brought the RIC out in these years, Thank You So Much!!
I just want to tear up when I see Neil’s face, we all miss you so much!!!
Get over it!
Spent 3 years living in Thailand back in the 70's and 80's.
Been my favorite band since 1974.
😎 I saw rush many times when younger I'm 62 and I always smoke some of my home grown listening to this
The irony. Neil made a nice "stop" for the best,in Rotterdam! What a sweet place!
Agreed. Perfect place to play this song!
Geddy Lee's vocals. It doesn't get any better than that!
This song is about smoking weed around the world.
no its more about opium.
no it was about pot. Listen to the words and watch alex.
***** They never touched opium, it's about pot.
Its about hash...
no, Brett, it si all about the weed. Our first stop is in Bogota, to check the Colombian fields. 2:35 Geddy is really into the groove. Fun to watch.
A melhor banda de todos os tempos. Rush forever!

Tal cual!!
They are the best at what they did, sure miss them , i can only cherish the thoughts of the 15 to 20 times I saw them live, never once disappoint ed me. Masters at work.
If only Ged would pull out the Ricky more often...
2:52 THAT'S what I was waiting to hear.

That Ric is an absolute beast
absolute - but without geddy ......
I play guitar and that bass is just badass

You gotta love that sick drum set. This is probably my favorite Rush song too.
I wish I couldve smelled this song live.
Love this alblum!
Ouvir essa música me enche o coração de alegria e tanto tempo passou e ainda me transmite a mesma emoção
The best rock'n roll drummer ever
Every time I saw Rush live the smoke would thicken when this song was played.
I’m actually listening to this on the train to Bangkok! From Langsuan. 1 more hour to go!
Corey, Trevor, smokes, let's go!
Frig off Ricky, get your own smokes
Rush has got these lyrics about how different sides of your brain work and aliens and outer space bullshit.
Of course I'll use demoricum on the tv bubbles
Deeeeecrnt!
@@4spbiz HAHAHA FOR A SEC I THOUFHT YOUR PFP WAS BUBS
and absolutely no one can say these guys don't still have it, fucking incredible
"WE'LE HIT THE STOPS ALONG THE WAY, WE ONLY STOP FOR THE BEST" !!!!!!
First song I ever smoked to in high school! Long live RUSH!
The Exit Stage Left recording is still the best.
One of my fave Rush songs, I was jamming this when I was 13, drove my parents crazy,, good times
This sounds amazing. And the Ricky!!!
My Favorite Song Ever.....Long Live Rush!!! Peace from New Orleans All...
1:38 Tom Hanks is amazing on drums... who knew!
One of their best songs they played on this tour. I've seen all their tours back to Power Windows and this is the only time I've seen this performed. A timeless classic from their epic catalog of tunes! Thanks for sharing this one!!
RIP, Neil...😔
They look like they're having so much fun playing. Even after all of these years. Just as it should be. And the Ric is nice to see as well. Gotta mention that.
That Rickenbacker has a heavenly voice. Nothing else sounds like Geddy and his Ric.
I can't count the number of times this number was played on the 8track back in the day.
Man, the start of Alex's guitar solo in this song just gets me everytime.
Once upon some gods came down on earth to be among mortal and they taught them their magic through music ...
RUSH 4 the rest of eternity 🤘
I love the footage from Reefer Madness in the background lol...
The best ever in concert.i will miss going to their shows 😢
Neils smile at the end……I love it!
Soooo tight! Man... I can listen to this band every single day
I love to see Geddy playing the Rickenbacker once again!
Who's Eric??
"Our first stop is in Bogotà
To check Colombian fields"?!?!
Why haven´t Rush come to Colombia yet?
i don,t know, because maybe theres to many fields.no were to land lol jks
My Friend, Nem. They have never come to Bangkok as well.
There is no “passage” to Bangkok, man. They aren’t making any tour stops there, okay? It’s metaphorical, while still being lyrical, can you dig that?
Im guessing because...in Colombia...99 percent of people do not understand or speak English there.
@@jeffbrockman8071 the same thing can be said about Brazil, where Rush played several times.
One of my favourite RUSH songs.....

No better place for this “weed song” than Holland 😂 Greetings from Poland!
I'm from Bogotá, and I'm still waiting Rush here to chech our fields.
my favorite canadians
R.I.P Neil Peart🙏🙌
That guitar riff from Alex is just awesome. Not exactly hard to play but something about really strikes a chord with me.
Super hard solo to play. 95% of players couldn’t pull it off.
But if you’re blitzed out of your gourd, it’s probably “easy” to play!
We only stop for the Best ❤🔥🤘🚂
“Refer Madness” on the screen. Too cool
Wow! So much for "Sweet Leaf" ...
Old time favourite...awesome!!!
An all-time great song about riding trains ...
rush sounds just like a CD live that's talent bunch of Canadians that went to the top
I love this song!!!Rush rulezz
MASTERPIECE !
thank you rush for the great music
the way geddy walks off stage after songs to change basses and the camera follows him gets me every time - fuckin love this band
Best guitar riff ever
Awesome!!! You never hear this live. Blessed Be.
Absolute perfection.
Ahhhh! A find song indeed Caress of Steal
So great!
Awsome.......best 3 piece ever!

Such a killer and fun tune to play song.
the first 1 2 minutes of the drums on this song it took me about 8 trys to learn and play in 1983 from the blocks to the first 12 counts on the drum was hooked everysince
