Yeah, I always kind of felt sorry for him. He had some of the funniest quotes in the show, including the "Surprise Motherfucker" which is basically a meme now. Unfortunately however his hostility, arrogance and reckless behavior got him killed.

I think the ending would have been fitting, if they gave you another season to actually get invested in some of the other characters. There was lot more wrong with it than just that though.
He use the old school house rule of “it doesn’t matter who started it, it matter who finished it”. They didn’t see the head butt all they saw was Dexter walkin calmly and then doakes attack him and he had a history of getting angry, and was very vocal about disliking Dexter. Dexter was always a step ahead of him
@@johnruz1 I think it was deliberately because it was the perfect way to hide any signs from the headbutt. Doakes could be saying 'He headbutted me' and without that slam they would see evidence on Dexter's head but because of the slam everyone will say it was from the contact with the desk.
I feel like that slam was deliberate by Dexter to hide any proof of him headbutting Doakes. He took Doakes's only defense away. If Doakes now says that Dexter headbutted him and they should check his forehead they will say any wounds are from the slam on the table. It's also quite weird how Dexter just hits the table without even trying to cover.

So far anyways I'm on book 6 now and got two more after that so it might change.

Up till the end of book 1 the show stayed relatively faithful before going in it's own direction to tell the story how they wanted to tell it.

let me tell you, scenes like this made the show my FAVOURITE video entertainment i ever watched. This includes livestreams, watching my favourite sports team win a championship, my favourite youtube channels with comedians or the best live music performances, the best tv shows and movies ive watched ETC. and i have spent the last 30 years watching a show or movie or browsing youtube, watching sports etc for 3 hours at least 5 days a week so thats 18000 hours of video entertainment, and this show is so memorable, i quoted entire fucking lines the whole episode when i watched the show for the 2nd time 7 years later! btw... the new show, dexter new blood.... it sucked! and sure, having almost none of the original cast and the new ending was part of it..... but the worst part of all is, it was SOOOO DAMN SHORT!!! and it didnt even continue with harrison taking up dexters mantle (in the books even his adopted kids picked up his habits)
Doakes brought Camilla into his agenda. After she came to Dexter about possibly losing her job for destroying the file about what happened to Dexter's mother, he promised her he'd handle it. So either way, he was kind of in a lose-lose situation. So by making Doakes look like an aggressor, it lessened his credibility.
Dexter when he’s finally fed up putting up the act with Doakes, but wanting to demonstrate that whatever he may this he knows… he’ll never have any leverage over him.
That was beautifully calculated. Planned very well. He knew Doakes would attack him. He right that would get him out the way, but in reality, that's how he found the time to put a GPS tap on Dexter's boat and found out who he really was. Although a good plan to keep him outta police work, Dexter screwed up, forgetting that Doakes would never let his suspicions go.
Two things that bother me about this scene - and don't get me wrong, this is one of my all time favorite moments of the whole series. 1. There would be cctv cameras set up in the offices/bullpen (as to record so evidence couldn't be tampered with without it being caught, record if any unauthorized persons were in there) so it should have recorded Dexter headbutting Doakes, and quick stepping out of the office door. 2. Even if Dexter refused to file charges Doakes would still have been arrested for assault/battery of an law enforcement agent in front of witnesses as part of proper procedures. especially after Laguarta pulls his badge, gun and tells him he's benched until IA does an investigation. THey'd want to question him immediately.

Oh I love Dexter! Season 2 was great. My seasons ranking: 4,1,2,7,3,5,8,6. New blood would be in the middle. Definitv a step up, but rushed a little bit too much in the end, but most epiaodes were great.
SPOILERS The same smart man who struggled on whether or not to kill Doakes because even he knew it was pretty wrong, straight up killed Logan in the jail and then got shot in the woods like a deer by his own son. Disappointing to me, but I guess it was a good show.

Old Dexter struggled for days over whether to kill Doakes or not, and he decided to turn himself in, but was saved by Lila Ex-Machina. But this time grabbed Logan, being able to knock him out, and instead chose to break his neck and run.
Most people that end a beloved show horribly are never able to do it again. That was a milestone Dexter couldnt pass up. The new "fixed" ending even worse then the first
Why even bother bringing Batista back? You can clearly see that at one point the writers had a goal in mind but for some reason the goal was ditched. The question is why was the plot ditched, what was supposed to be the ending?

Puts hands in pockets because it's often hard to control the bodies natural inclination to defend itself when a threat arrives. Plus it looks like indifference on the security camera. "Look at the footage. If he had just assaulted Doakes, why does he look so calm?" Good scripts this show.
Nope, I’m pretty sure there aren’t any cameras in Dexter’s little lab or office, and he had the blinds closed on purpose so another camera couldn’t have caught it.
The headbutt was so out of the blue i did not expect it when i first watched the scene but the cartoon punch sound effect made it so much better

He is the crazy person with the sign saying "The end is nigh". He could be totally right but you'd never believe him.

@@Gaib_al_lisan In the book Brian doesn't die Lagureta does (Sorry if I'm butchering the spelling ) Im talking about Dokes Vs Dexter, in the second book Doakes gets kidnapped by a crazy doctor who cuts off his limbs and tongue so Doakes isn't as much of a threat or foil to Dexter. So far anyways I'm on book 6 now and got two more after that so it might change.

@@animezae First one is called Darkly Dreaming Dexter, Dearly Devoted Dexter, Dexter in the Dark, Dexter By Design, Dexter Is Delicious, and the one I'm currently on is Double Dexter, theres 2 more after that but I don't have the names memorized, also don't worry about the show spoiling anything for you past book one. Up till the end of book 1 the show stayed relatively faithful before going in it's own direction to tell the story how they wanted to tell it.

Yeah all the years i thought the same. But right now, on my seventh run, i was asking myself: "why the fuck doakes doesnt bleed from the headbutt". The move from dexter was so risky, its not so nice as i thought it would be. I hate it, the scene doesnt make sense anymore
let me tell you, scenes like this made the show my FAVOURITE video entertainment i ever watched.
This includes livestreams, watching my favourite sports team win a championship, my favourite youtube channels with comedians or the best live music performances, the best tv shows and movies ive watched ETC.
and i have spent the last 30 years watching a show or movie or browsing youtube, watching sports etc for 3 hours at least 5 days a week
so thats 18000 hours of video entertainment, and this show is so memorable, i quoted entire fucking lines the whole episode when i watched the show for the 2nd time 7 years later!
btw... the new show, dexter new blood.... it sucked!
and sure, having almost none of the original cast and the new ending was part of it.....
but the worst part of all is, it was SOOOO DAMN SHORT!!! and it didnt even continue with harrison taking up dexters mantle
(in the books even his adopted kids picked up his habits)
I think new blood was fantastic. It was so great to see Dexter again. The new ending also is a bit better than the old one.

Dexter screwed himself by doing this though, after this Doakes had more time on his hands to tail and investigate him.
Doakes brought Camilla into his agenda. After she came to Dexter about possibly losing her job for destroying the file about what happened to Dexter's mother, he promised her he'd handle it. So either way, he was kind of in a lose-lose situation. So by making Doakes look like an aggressor, it lessened his credibility.
I remember when I saw this scene I was ready to jump from my seat from excitement 😂
Dexter when he’s finally fed up putting up the act with Doakes, but wanting to demonstrate that whatever he may this he knows… he’ll never have any leverage over him.

1 time Dexter got Doakes with perfection. Doakes falled right into Dexters plan perfectly.
IDK why I laugh so hard at this every time. Doakes' so easy to set up to look crazy. Too emotional. ;-)

That was beautifully calculated. Planned very well. He knew Doakes would attack him. He right that would get him out the way, but in reality, that's how he found the time to put a GPS tap on Dexter's boat and found out who he really was. Although a good plan to keep him outta police work, Dexter screwed up, forgetting that Doakes would never let his suspicions go.
Two things that bother me about this scene - and don't get me wrong, this is one of my all time favorite moments of the whole series.
1. There would be cctv cameras set up in the offices/bullpen (as to record so evidence couldn't be tampered with without it being caught, record if any unauthorized persons were in there) so it should have recorded Dexter headbutting Doakes, and quick stepping out of the office door.
2. Even if Dexter refused to file charges Doakes would still have been arrested for assault/battery of an law enforcement agent in front of witnesses as part of proper procedures. especially after Laguarta pulls his badge, gun and tells him he's benched until IA does an investigation. THey'd want to question him immediately.

My seasons ranking: 4,1,2,7,3,5,8,6. New blood would be in the middle. Definitv a step up, but rushed a little bit too much in the end, but most epiaodes were great.

The same smart man who struggled on whether or not to kill Doakes because even he knew it was pretty wrong, straight up killed Logan in the jail and then got shot in the woods like a deer by his own son. Disappointing to me, but I guess it was a good show.

@@joshmarr5784 Exactly. They did that ONLY so they could kill him. Old Dexter struggled for days over whether to kill Doakes or not, and he decided to turn himself in, but was saved by Lila Ex-Machina. But this time grabbed Logan, being able to knock him out, and instead chose to break his neck and run.
Most people that end a beloved show horribly are never able to do it again. That was a milestone Dexter couldnt pass up. The new "fixed" ending even worse then the first
Why even bother bringing Batista back? You can clearly see that at one point the writers had a goal in mind but for some reason the goal was ditched. The question is why was the plot ditched, what was supposed to be the ending?
It was horrible ending did not felt like it was dexter, also the hypocrisy of harrison just make it much worst it should have been his new girlfriend kill him rather then a hypocrite and already a physco Harrison

Puts hands in pockets because it's often hard to control the bodies natural inclination to defend itself when a threat arrives. Plus it looks like indifference on the security camera. "Look at the footage. If he had just assaulted Doakes, why does he look so calm?" Good scripts this show.
I just realized decades later that they have security cameras and that Doakes could’ve easily just told them to see dexter head butting him.
Nope, I’m pretty sure there aren’t any cameras in Dexter’s little lab or office, and he had the blinds closed on purpose so another camera couldn’t have caught it.
What I love is Doakes is a bad ass so he just smirks at Dexter because he never dreamed Dexter would do something nevermind hurt him.
