You learn so much from these videos, I had no idea that bad silage could cause cows to lose their calves. Uh oh, lambing season is imminent that will put an end to Alan''s good mood, lol. Great vid, love Clydes Farm.
Stone bags down each side of the silo will keep the silage better and role the pit for a while longer should be better quality. But I would suggest stone bags down each side of the walls
Alan sheet the side walls and put more than one sheet on the top of the clamp. Then cover the whole clamp with tyres and you find the birds don't peck through the sheet so easily.👍 Also fixing the guttering on the adjacent buildings will stop the water problem rotting the silge down the sides of the clamp. 👍
Great video, love the craic between Alan and Tom but Alan giving Tom praise !!!.. how long did the truce last.. And who was it that rolled that pit..🤔..
We’ve been demoing a Polaris ranger and they are mint, once you’ve tried it you can’t go back😂 ours is coming in April and it fills like it’s a year a way 😂 My advice is to get him one, probably not what you what to hear
Cut a good used cover into 3 pieces. Back and sides. hanging half inside all walls. Fill silo to a height that will leave it mostly above wall height after being rolled and settled. Fold covers on the edges. Put your new cover on. Then and old cover and bag down the walls and adjust for settling. Old fish or garden netting over the top greatly reduces bird damage.. PLASTER, CONCRETE and CEMENT are porous, any water trapped between the cover and wall will gradually soak through into the clamp. Good drainage also required until clamp has well settled.
@@farmflix it's very easy for me to preach and be an 'expert' on UA-cam, but here we go... Rolling the next day is really a big no-no, that's typically why you will see so much mould and fluffiness on the top of your silage. Driving on silage the next day causes the top layer to act as a bellows, pressing out the gases held (mostly CO2) and reintroducing oxygen. Get the silage in, spend an hour rolling it and then get the cover on it straight away - a pain if you finish at 1am but worth it every time, even if it's just set on top loosely. Cling film and a black side sheeting cover for that pit should be around ~£150. I'm looking forward to see how the green cover turns out.
Not rolled well enough. That's why top block is fluffy looking. Need a tractor rolling full time when buck raking. Blocks at the sides or sausage bags. I think a roof silo helps to.. interested in seeing the other side of that clamp
That waste is annoying we went back to bales last two years making near enough to haylage nearly cheap as pit no meal when silage good when on pit silage always needed meal me cousin not happy he has wagons love Alans videos

Side sheets and fix the guttering would help.
And it was too dry so won't have sealed properly
be interesting to see what the other pit looks like when its opened as the two pits were put in at the same time
Yards looking smart now Alan few things fairly tidy the place up keep up the good work
Aye he's getting it into shape righlty
Great video, love the craic between Tom and Alan, It happens in every yard ;-)
glad you are enjoying Cormac
This is how all family run farms are like. Great video guys.

Is that merlo heavy enough to really roll a pity properly,,??
you would hardly think it
Course it is.
Brings a whole new meaning to the old saying “There’s wiser eating grass “🤔🤔😆😂
hahahaha :)
Alan that hole of rot is just below the big dip in the gutter on the other shed. The roof on the other shed is dumping water on you silage cover
aye he needs the gutters fixed, though there's rot all over it
We have a cover under the pit and and up the sides and over the top and it stays good
A silo with a roof makes a big difference.if you fix the gutter and put sheets up the sides would help alot
Think he would like a big shed

Alan is some craic

When was that pit rolled? How long after being put in?
was rolled that night and the next day

Hello Gentlemen, Im from the states and own a Ag Bagger 14ft and would love to come over and bag your silage! Love the video by the way
Eating silage is ‘Modern Technology’!!!
Tom has a way with words haha

Alan man those calves are super great time to be in sheep Dad is some some help
he'd be lost without Auld Tom
The loader isnt heavy enough for the pit
think will he buy a bigger one?
@@farmflix not mr Clyde anyway 😂
Were do you get them covers
Interesting video 👍
Thanks Anthony
Flatt out Alan lad 🤙👍
yus
Lovely limousine cattle
he has some nice stock
packing the silage more and using plastic on the sides and laying it about a meter in on the floor should fix the problem
Is there no new video this week
Maybe be time to go all bales. Will get the odd bad bale but easier than spronging off a pit
Alan you should try putting a sheet of plastic on the ground and up the side walls and you won't have as much waste at all
Anyone spot the gate he left open after feeding the calves
eagle eyes ;)
I see alan got himself a new dog
Spittin’s quittin Alan
lol, would you eat it yourself?
@@farmflix Weel there’s worse things to eat in a ferm I wid say😂

Aye we’ve gone tiv todd bales nower days like but bloody crows keep on destroying the bales so we are a bit buggered
@@probro1116 stick grease on them get a gun club out sort them
Dunno if Alan is a fan of working with the bales all the same
I see the slicks were on the merlo at times🤣🤣
he has new boots now ;)
You didn't latch the gate
spotted ;)
Tom must be doing 30k going round the field rolling 😂
Legend ;)
Savage bunch of calves 👍
Jesus Alan they’re serious calves you have
seems to have a few potentials about ;)
Hello! Where are you ? What country and city ?
Is very important you put in yours videos City and Country
No chance without side sheets
how do you think the other pit will fair
Hope it's better but it can be done with plastic and tyres with a bit of care.
We used to have a cow like that
Once she caved you had to stay well away
Always need to be careful
maybe the Merlo isn't heavy enough
Is paul a mechanic or fitter or something
Brilliant lads. Your place is no different from hundreds of farms. Its called comprising lol .
do as needs must ;)
@@farmflix I know a man selling second hand gators. Also he’s good to do an interview with about she’d outfitting.
@@farmflix I meant sheds
Cling film Barrier underneath and don't roll the top layer into dung
I don't think your going fast enough at the rolling..😁🤷♂️
Auld Tom is a legend ;)
The old boy needs to slow down, he’s killed those tyres off in no time at all 😉
poor Alan he has half a pit wasted!!
handlins
Sell the sheep and you’ll afford the gator!
think Alan wouldn't mind that idea but with no sheep Tom wouldn't need the gator haha
Rolling at that speed isn’t worth rolling atol
sure you know yourself
You should make bails instead
Silage way to dry for pit
wonder what way the other pit will turn out like
Jaysus what a mess
handlin
WTF.??First ejit I've ever seen tastin the fkin silage,
I see Brian’s been at the acting again
He was getting tasered in the balls on itv for some odd reason
You should buy a Can-Am Traxter not a gator clown car
Think Auld Tom would be happy to get anything
I have seen it all, when a farmer is actually tasting the silage..😡😡
