Just listened with headphones and computer speakers. Softened my love for SL and made the ‘59’s a possible move. Thanks for this!
Thanks for watching! Hope you subscribe and listen to the 80 Other shootouts! Haha
Nice A/B demo, but would prefer neck to neck and bridge to bridge !
I go for the Seth Lover : more clarity on the neck position, and a way less bright on the bridge 🙂
Thanks for watching
Absolutely on both points. Appreciate anyone who puts tine & effort in to do this (I do the same) BUT so much MORE effective when the pups are compared side by side in each position - NOT one pup in all positions, then the other pup. And it's so easy in the editing...
@@roughcutguitars It is ONLY easy in the editing when you have learned how to edit and be organized well, and at this point in time I had not. Hindsight is 20/20 and I see the same feedback on every one of these OVER 100 shootouts. If I ever did it again, I would obviously reconcile this but until I decide to, feel free to add chapters in the comments so those who don't mind a few clicks can benefit...
I'd put a Seth Lover in the Neck but a 59 in the Bridge! LOL! That's just for my ear and taste!
love the 59's
me too
SL's for me! Love the set I have in my LP studio, I accidentally put the neck in upside down but now have that out of phase sound which is great too :)
Awesome!
As Bob Ross said, We don't make mistakes. We just have happy accidents.
Ha! Is your name Mr. Green by any chance?
Nice as always🤘🏼🤘🏼 seth bridge and 59 neck would be the set 😎😎
FYI, the 59s can be ordered with no wax potting as a Shop Floor Custom, for no extra charge, from any Ducan authorized dealer. I've been tempted to do this as I like the overall voice of the 59s, but like the liveliness of the unpotted Seths more. The Seths, however, are a bit muddy in my particular guitar, so unpotted 59s could be a viable solution...
Spot on there Sir Yes I like the 59's better so that's cool that they offer that option Thanks
I bought a D'Angelico Brighton Deluxe (very SG - like) and they come with the Seths. Man, they sound so great, there are times when say I'm shutting down a session, but over and over, I'll just strum a C chord and listen, strum and listen. It's just such beautiful tone with incredible clarity, but push at the same time. Sls all day, every day for me.
Seth's are awesome!!!

Seth Lover's for the win! That's my tone anyway. They always make me play with soul and expression.
You are biased! That's your favorite! Hahahah
Kidding of course!
IMO, the 59’s don’t sound bad, but there’s something about the character of the SLovers that seems to allow more expression of nuance - a little more mojo😉. Nice pickups indeed! That’s what I originally had in the neck of my 52 Custom Tele. Sounded great, but just wasn’t the right match for the bridge - so swapped it out for a Zhangbucker prototype. Real nice job on these shootouts, Jacob👍😄.
Don't overthink it, man. The SLs are a little fatter, that's all.
The difference is that the Seth Lovers uses Alnico 2 magnets and 59 uses Alnico 5 magnets. Both are good but will have different nuances. The Seth Lovers are also un potted which can cause bad feedback but will gain a little extra clarity. Personally I’m a Seth Lover guy but they’re both worthy
Ambos suenan muy bien, los 59 suenan cremosos y mediosos y los Seth Lover súper abiertos y definidos, con esos mics mejor tener 2 Les Paul jajaja

Thanks for watching!
I thought the '59s are more chimey, and the seths are more raunchy and bitey, with less low end and more top. I have Seth Lovers in my les paul currently, they are about to come out. I think the '59 will go in the neck and an L500XL in the bridge.
Nice!
I just bought the 2 same pick ups. Going the 59 bridge in the neck like dime but not really going for a heavy metal sound just hot blues/jazz I hope it sounds okay
@@yeahna sh-1b in the neck is a little bit dark here, but it's a great sound. hot blues and jazz, sure thing! the bill lawrence usa in the bridge is a screaming demon. what a fun guitar
@@yeahna yeah they are unpotted so w high gain tones it will squeal for sure
59 sound pretty good. I've had had both. I think the response on the SLs is better. Also 59s are LOUD! Voicing wise they sound good though, maybe a bit too much treble on the treble pickup
Thanks for commenting!
To my surprise, while I could probably live with either set, I prefer the '59's in every comparison when playing this recording back on a high-end, transparent tube HiFi system. I went in biased toward the Seth Lovers, if anything.
How can you hear the character of a pickup when it’s been clipped beyond recognition?
I go back n forth on that all the time, but it does stand to reason that since they're both subject to the same conditions, then it's still a 'level' playing field. No?
Put Seth lovers in a 335,guitar heaven, smooth, clear articulated and well balanced, they'll never leave this guitar
Glad you like them
I have just purchased a 335 style guitar with Seth lovers. The range of different tones, and like you say, smooth, clear and articulate. I couldn't stop playing it in the shop.
Thanks! EXACTLY why I came here. Looking at 2 used Heritage 535s - one w Seths, other w 59's.
It's clear that the 59 is more compress.... because of this video I now know that I should consider the SD Seth Lover pickup instead of the 59.
Nice!
Thank you for a really good comparison..
Thanks for watching!
If I'm looking for a vintage "PAF" style pickup between the two, the Seth Lover is a huge win. The 59s don't sound bad at all, but they don't sound like a PAF really, a bit more modern. Would be great for players who use a lot of delay and other effects, aka a more "processed sound".
What I am trying to find is a direct comparison between the Seth Lover and the Dimarzio 36th for the best buy PAF style pickup
So since no two PAF pickups sound the same.
What is the true PAF sound?
@bigstick5278 whatever you want it to be - Julia Roberts. Lol
59' arethe best ones for me. more vintage classic sound
Tough choice here 🧐. I guess it is down to personal preference between low and higher output.
Indeed!
Seth at the bridge, 59 at the neck. The SL is a little fatter, which renders it a bit tubby in the neck position by comparison.
That can easily be adjusted out with height and pole screws. The Seth neck can be great in the right guitar. Far from flubby in any of my experiences.
@@VisualGuy There's clearly a slight difference in freq response, otherwise there'd be no point in Duncan making both models. Based on the tonal differences, my preference would be a 59 in front, SL in back. By comparison, the SL was tubbier in the neck position; the 59 would help clean that up. TBH, with the settings and the OD you used, both neck pickups were too flubby for my taste.
@@fretbuzz59Frequency responses can be different and still have multiple settings where they meet and cross. I can make either sound brighter or darker. Likely won’t matter in a mix.
Not even close, Seth Lovers!
Cheers!
I personally liked the Seth Lovers over the 59’s.
Me too!
The SL set by a mile
Thanks for watching!
@@VisualGuy Agree. I hadn't seen these when I upgraded pickups a few weeks ago, I was a little apprehensive about watching them now, but it looks like I did good getting the Lovers'. Nicely done comparison series, too many others cloak pickup behavior with heavy OD/effects rendering them useless for objective comparison. Thanks.
Thank you man. I did use the Tim pedal, but lightly just to smooth out the tweed grittiness. Its so rich and amp like, I felt it OK to keep it in there as long as it was always on. I’ll admit, a lot of work but hopefully it is a good resource! It feels good to be able to move the microphone and play with some settings on the amp now tho!!
One of each. The SL sounds great in the bridge position, but too throaty and tubby at the neck.
It is challenging-to my untrained ear some of the sounds sound similar. My wife has a G & L ASAT Classic (Indonesia) and while the Bridge pick-up is a G and L pickup the neck Humbucker is generic. All in all I like the Seth better, but there is a price difference between the two. The 59' is more reasonably priced and I might take a go at installing myself. I liked the Jazz pick-up as well but I am going to narrow it down to the 59' vs Seth. My wife loves the blues but does not want something too muddy. I appreciate blues/rock. Any suggestions for a middle class beginner? The set up now is muddy and that's why I want a change.
Compare the Seth Love vs a Ron Ellis 60's Bette humbucker.
seth's are slightly nicer but the 59s are pretty great too
I think I like the 58's better
Right on
Yep them 58s. I like the 59s myself
The seth lover sounds much nicer . More balanced softer and better nids . Much more classic paf sounding. The 59 has too much bass for my tastes .
That's kind of true. I have the 59 in the neck position and it's very bassy.
How you gunna take all the time to do this demo and not include middle pos?
It was super easy.
Have you done a duncan '59 vs dimarzio '59 shootout?
Not yet!
It would be SO helpful if you'd edit the videos so like pickups were back to back. Not that you're alone in this oversight.
It wasn’t an oversight, it was a choice. I was managing hundreds of clips when I did these all in about 2 weeks. You can just open two browsers or use the time stamps. it’ll be fine. Thanks for watching!
@@VisualGuy I understand the workaround, but it's inefficient.
The SL's make the '59's sound like they're wearing a mask...
what does that even mean
@@yeahna It was a joke meaning they sound muffled in comparison.
@@SeQFreQ369 ahh haha shit sorry I was very confused (air head)
The Seth Lovers are Duncans.
@@samnewton5959 Oops!, fixed, thanx.

More chirp in Seths....59s duller...
