Was on Victor’s virtual “camp” this weekend just gone and Scott was brought up as recommended listening by Rod & Vic. Just started looking up and did not realise it was the same guy who did this cover! I remember watching it when it 1st went up and just impressed being done on a 5! Funny to see the circle completed now. Made my day finding this out :)
The guy was 18 when he played it... it was for Battle of the Bands for Friendswood High School and passing time in between two bands' performance. It was amazing, though, trust me
There is nothing bad I can say about my performance. You showed tremendous technical skill, pretty good stage presence, and most impressively, you put your own unique spin on the piece. Fantastic. (though 5-strings are for wimps!)
Yeah i know. I live about half an hour away, and all my jazz band directors went to UNT. Some of the most amazing players I've heard went to UNT, it is an amazing school and if i chose to be a musician i would have gone there.
i give this kid major credit for being able to get most of the song right with few mistakes, granted it could be perfected but still that is a heck of a song to play.
nice job dude! and i see this vid is like a year old so i bet you are even better now lol. i hear a lot of vic stuff in their besides CT but it all works togetehr so cheers!
I used to play with him back when this was recorded... he was scary good then. This was before he went to UNT to play bass full time... im sure he would look at this video now and be horrified. He is on another level.
No one else can play this like Victor Wooten. The groove he puts into it is what makes the song, and he does it with very little effort (at least it looks like it). It was a good video though. Also, he rushes alot of it.
excellent job of learning and performing that song. Probably one of if not the hardest solo bass piece in existing. As wooten put it himself, "Once you get this song under your belt, you'll know pretty much everything that I know." Great work though. PS are there any videos of wooten playing the full song through start to finish? Never found one.
I'm going to try to learn this as well, so it's good to see someone else having done it, especially on a bass that's not 24 frets, as my 4 string only has 22 as well. my question is...did you use tabs or did you learn by ear? and HOW did you do the improv? I'm quite impressed.
ur fucking insane man im playing bass myself and i know how fucking good u would have to be to play that insane shit like that.ur a great bass player, if u ever have a concert ill be there for sure
very nice! to be honest: couple of time issues when he added in the hammers, BUT to be fair: at live performances w/ the adrenaline pumpin', it happens sounds great though, man. Keep it up.
xaiesque The song itself IS BLOODY FLASHY. And if he's able to play it, he should (as he obviously does). The point is: Is he doing it well? If you don't think so, you should post a video response of yourself doing better. If you're not able to do so (like myself),you should see the original and use your little brain cells to get to a conclusion. Well, MY brain cells and my "A Show Of Hands" album are telling me that the dude up there is doing a BLOODY GREAT WORK.
Lol. I bear this in comparison to people who play Flea lines, Jaco lines, Miller lines and in this case Wooten lines, yes he can play it pretty well but he didn't write the flippin line did he! 95% of credit goes to wooten for inventing this :P.
you ever listen to what victor teaches? He speaks so much about the groove, and ones connection to the music. You've certainly got the technique, it takes many many hours to learn that song, after which most players still can't come close to your performance. Huge props. That said, theres still that tiny groove component missing. Your brains got this…get connected and it would sound as though it was Victor playing. Your almost there. please don't take this the wrong way. This vid's sic
not bad u should do that video to show ppl how to do those hard parts like the one thats starts in a major well i am talkin bout the solo that is the fastest part in the song ooo and the tapping parts too plz if u can do that slowly and show hows the picking in the right hand works u should do all of us a big favor
yer a bass wizard harreh
This is the most hardest song I've ever seen/heard and you played it live too... HOLY SHIT
Bravo man... Bravo... i would pay to see that.
I loved the improv section, sounded great!

Bad ass!!!!!! I give props to anyone who can play that.
I don't understand how people dislike this, he plays it spot on and all of it! most people play 40 secs of it.

God I want to learn this song...this dude pulls it off, perfectly. Sounds like Victor Wooten even, 5/5 stars.
ur fucking insane man im playing bass myself and i know how fucking good u would have to be to play that insane shit like that.ur a great bass player, if u ever have a concert ill be there for sure
wow, that was crazy. is that a sadowsky? the headstock leans to yes aside from the tunning pegs but the pickups say no.
right on brotha haha this kid did play it a little fast. but still its way good. i can't play the whole thing. i gotta learn more of it
@Brian19451 I think it would be CRAZY hard to learn it, but almost any song will get easier with practice.
What kind of bass is that?
I think I have the same one.
nice trick... playing the bass without using a pick!
how old is him
brave man
how do you slap without having it click so much.
a vida é fodida...
Nice interpretation! North Texas State huh? I hear they teach a mean jazz course over there...true?
very nice! to be honest: couple of time issues when he added in the hammers, BUT to be fair: at live performances w/ the adrenaline pumpin', it happens
