Super Mario Bros. (Genesis) Playthrough - NintendoComplete
Вставка
- Опубліковано 17 лис 2017
- A playthrough of the unlicensed 2010 NES port for the Sega Genesis, Super Mario Bros. Also known as SMB4MD.
This impressively accurate conversion, apparently done by the Argentine programmer Mairtrus, is virtually identical to the original 1985 NES game. Everything is here, including the original minus world trick. The music certainly sounds different paying from the Genesis' FM chip, but besides that, you'd be hard-pressed to find any differences between them.
This is just a quick run-through showing all of the stages - I didn't use any warp zones. It's a pretty neat oddity that I felt was worth showing off.

shouldn’t this be other way around since Sega doesn’t make anymore consoles

Genesis does what Nintendoes!
genesIS what nintendo is
XD nope ua-cam.com/video/AlMQYlkcLMs/v-deo.html
like super mario on my Genesis
Only worse lol
Nintendo is far better than the sega genesis and the supet nintendo pretty much beats the genesis as but the only way it dose compete is speed the snes has 3.2 mega hurts and the sg has 7.5 mega hurts
Impressive how the physics were perfectly ported over, great work by the developer
The sound track too imo sound a LITTLE more better, so cool, so rad…..WTH I’m naked now
its a direct port of the rom's og code via decomp
its because of the decompilation the game got. he used a program to automatically convert 75% of the code then did the rest himself. its amazing how he did this
This is an impressively close port of Nintendo's classic platformer, but man, the music sure does sound strange on a Genesis!
Thats really the only difference I could tell, did you notice it running faster than your used to?
Chris Mallin I didn't notice, but that certainly could be the case. It's been awhile since I played it on the NES
NintendoComplete play muscle bomber
AranhaSombraTv Slam Masters? Already did, see my SNES and Genesis playlists
Some of the sound effects are different too, like the sound when you get a powerup.
Someone needs to port Sonic 1, 2, 3, & Knuckles to the SNES.
You could, but it may not run as well though.
the SNES doesn't have the fast CPU speed needed to run Sonic games smoothly
@@yumenikki9724 Actually, in many respects, the SNES is an objectively superior system. Sprite sizes, color palettes, RAM, sound chip, etc. I mean, the SNES ran a better version of DOOM than the 32x for crying out loud!
ua-cam.com/video/UiYv1DY51A4/v-deo.html
Sonic the Hedgehog is a platforming game with lots of flashy sprite art. Yoshi's Island is a platforming game with lots of flashy sprite art, plus some SuperFX Mode7 trickery. It probably won't be easy, but a smooth running port of the Genesis Sonic games should be possible.
@@Mrcake0103 The reason for that is because the snes needed to use the Super FX GSU-2 chip in the cart. without it the system wouldn't have been able to run the game the way you see it playing with the chip.
Doom 32x was also a rushed port and didn't take proper advantage of the 32x hardware. if the programmers had more time to work on the game it would have been much better than that.
As for any of the Sonic games, while the snes can play them there will be a lot of slowdown happening in certain spots if some cuts aren't made because of the slower cpu.
Mrcake0103 The music for the 32X version of Doom was just a bunch of toilet sounds.
This seems like a really good port. The jump physics look like they work and everything looks normal. The music is kinda hit or miss. It works for underwater, underground, and castle levels but the outdoors music could use some rests between the notes. I give it a 9 out of 10. :)
The blast processing really works
I guess mario must really benefit from it... :)
I’m actually a huge fan of the music. It’s just something about how the notes don’t end when they should that makes it oddly nostalgic
Same
0:0 1:25 1 0:39 and the ending of level is the best 0:58 1:04 when you get a star it is the best
Sound is weird as expected, but definitely charming nonetheless. I love that there are people out there that can program games to be “ported” to the rival systems from back then.
Mario on Sega? This is heresy! And speaking of heresy, the music sounds like it's being played on an old church organ - it's really weird - but kinda cool.
You see heresy. I see glory.
You mean high treason to Nintendo.
Church organs are not heresy, well I guess if you're a member of one of the various Churches of Christ, they might be. Look it up.
@@doctornotprofessor I think that's probably a better word, but now a lot of Sega games come out on Nintendo consoles

The castle music is awesome! I really like the bass playing. It seems to add a level of "scariness ".
Yea, it is kind of ominous sounding.
@@dallase1 sure is. I listened to it again to remind me. Wouldn't mind trying the game on Genesis
I play it on mine via a Mega Everdrive X7 but it's a bit tricky to get it to work,I have to fiddle with the game region setting in the Everdrive options.
Music is really relaxing to me. It makes me think of some 60s jazz song turned into chiptune.
I actually like the arranges of the soundtrack of this port. Genesis always has a good sounds :D
The music is so warm and inviting... It has a calming effect.
I would say I like the music better than the original
I know the Genesis can’t recreate the original music with it’s Yamaha FM soundchip, but they should have just recreated the game with the PSG chip since that was included with the Genesis for backwards compatibility and used in games like Streets of Rage.
Say, they should make Game Gear and Master System ports of Super Mario Bros.!
but then you have the problem of the SN PSG not being able to do triangle waves
@RWL2012 Technically if you set Ch3 to the highest ultrasonic pitch, and rapidly feed a triangle wave into the volume register it can, but the poor Z80.
Also, people have made good NES triangle instruments for the YM2612 and this month someone used SSG-EG to get perfect pulses (square wave was possible for a while, even pure)
I grew up with the Genesis version
It's true it was 2012 and I played alot on real hardware
the game doesn't work on real hardware.
that was joke
@@twinbrossuperstars3970 oh
On my System using the Mega Evercart X7 it does but I have to set the Game Region to US NTSC or World.
How could you have grown up plying this version when it's not an official release? It was never sold in legitimate stores, Nintendo would never have allowed it.
The above ground theme's bass kicks ass
That Water theme music 10/10
Er...
How...
What?
I am confuse. This game is running at full speed. With all the instinct from the original game.
Now that’s dedication.
it's a binary translation
If this got ported to SEGACD we could easily get the old music back.
These colors are scarily accurate
I hate the sega CD so it's a bad idea
It would take a ton of effort, but it may work
Matias Olivares I doubt it would take much effort to code the game to play back CD music, but hey, I’m no coder.
the music would probably be best done with samples of the NES triangle wave bass on the YM2612's DAC channel, with the rest of the instruments replicated on the SN PSG.
The music doesn't sound that bad in my opinion
i agree
Same im gonna put a md emulator on my hacked psp to play this
to me tho, it sounds like when Super Mario Bros in ported to the SNES than a Mega Drive.
The underground and starman themes are cool, and the underwater theme is actually pretty great, but everything else sounds just weeeird
That's what I said and I think so too
Guess what i found friends!!!
A SEGA FROM 20 YEARS AGO
i dont even remember having it when i was a kid
Filip Tomić Nintendo must have wiped your memory
@@donkeykongisytpooping3002 >:C
I love the underground theme using the Segas hardware.
Would have been even more impressive if it was rather ported to another 8 bit console, and reading around I see that apparently the programmer found a way to have part of the code "automatically" translated, but must have still taken quite some work. The music notwithstanding, it's great to have to ability to play SMB with a cleaner look and no flicker.
This is actually pretty good. It sounds to me like they tried using the same sounds, just either changed them for stylistic reasons or to work better on the genesis hardware. I like it. The overworld theme is pretty nice. Its kind of dream like, relaxing.
nice playthrough! love the music!
The music is actually really cool.
the star theme made me love this port
Same Here Bro!!!
The Invincible Star Is my favorite Power-Up in the Mario Franchise!!
Who needs emulators when you have this insane bootleg?
Edit: Besides the earrape underground theme, that is.
@Horizonshot I don't think it's a hack.
I think it's a legit port.
It's not a hack it's a game ported by SEGA (You liars)
@@MegaCarlosYT255 also moron unless it joke
It still needs an emulator
@@yagzbaransonmez3532 I meant an NES emulator on Genesis.
I must say, the remixed fortress theme sounds a bit more looming.. .. ..
.. .. ..MAH HA HA HA AHHH!!!
Castle music goes so hard with the FM chip.
This is an impressive port! My favorite part about is the music! Beautifully reproduced!
I had to show my kids this video and how I used to play Mario when I was there age.. now kids these days have all this colorful Mario games and extra... they said this Mario is Boring 😂😂😂
Ahhh that's harsh lol
Sega Megatron music. Not a misspell. True fans know. Music evil I like it lol
i want the rom for this perfect port with genesis sounding songs
I've archived it for anyone to play with it. Please share it around as more people need to know about this. archive.org/details/smb4md_201910
@@captlegoman Thanks so much! I've been looking for this for ages. I'll be sure to share it around!
I really dig that Starman theme!
In a parallel universe, Super Mario Bros was the best selling game on the Sega Entertainment System. Until rival company Nintendo came up with their hardware the Nintendo Genesis and created Sonic the Hedgehog.
Impressive skills you make this so easy.
This is freaking awesome!
It's interesting how some of the sound effects could make the jump, and others ended up sounding really weird.
The castles’ music are really chilling
This looks really good!!
Sound effects are pretty spot on, but the music is so Genesis...or Mega!
I think the music could be better but it's not really bad
Well it's definitely Super Mario Bros. but what is up with the music? I feel like I'm listening to a class of elementary school students trying to recreate the music from the game!
rcblazer Mairtrus translated the original music programmatically, so he grabbed instruments from a Genesis music tracker as he couldn't get the FM chip to make a good square or triangle wave. It's probably possible in theory at least
LocalH maybe from GEMS
@@AnnoyedArt1256 GEMS is a DOS program, nobody has used it in decades
glacier72 I was drunk when I commented that so what (this is sarcastic)
This looks, plays, and sounds just as good as seeing Sonic the Hedgehog on the SNES.
“Genesis does what Nintendont”
Me: Are you sure about that?
The Yamaha FM synthesis chip certainly does not blend well with the music. They could at least used different instruments for each tracks that sounded more pleasing than...that. oof.
Irvin McWhorter Might've been trying to emulate the sound of other like Sonic Jam 6.
PERFECT PORT, GREAT JOB!!! ❤
I LOVE THE NEW VERSION OST ❤
Bring back childhood memories
Love the grittiness of the underground and castle themes tbh
The pipe sound sounds the same in both this version and the original
super Mario on a SEGA console, XD in the 80's that was unthinkable
pretty good. i wish they'd do an all stars version on the Genesis
Best bootleg(or port)I've ever seen!
So, so, SSSOOO close to a hit-free run!
Graphics: apart from the goofy ahh LSD colored sky, it's basically the same
Sound: Most the themes are very chill, Underground theme is dank af, Bowser castle is actually pretty fire, basic sfx actually sounds better too
SNES, PC Engine and Mega Drive / Genesis had a way to play the original Super Mario Bros. Now only Neo Geo remains to join the group.
Man this is great.
I assume they ran SMBDIS through a 6502 to 68000 assembly translator, and then patched it up to make it work.
any code that interacts with the NES hardware directly would need to be replaced with code that does the same thing on the Genesis.
Also any weird self-modifying code, or polyglot data that's used as code as well as something else, would need to be changed.
holy fuck, this is amazing. first this, then the commodore port?
Very good. Played it and little difference indeed
This gives me hope for sonic on snes
I wish this was a port of the All-Stars version, it would make more sense as the SNES and Genesis are both 16-bit consoles
I am entirely sure that the music could have been done more accurately using the 8-bit sound chip on the genesis, but I think they preferred to leave those channels open for the sound effects (which sound comparatively great!). I am sure that they could have done higher quality tracks with the YM2612, though.
The water level sounds good!
Loving the underground musik
Gives me FM Sega Master System vibes
My first game...
This hack was made in 2010, so you must be very young and played on an emulator.
Frame rate looking crispy. Blast processing ftw?
I wish someone would rip these songs, I want to listen to them in full
And this is exactly how it would have been back then imo
It's a great port 👍
And a bit surreal
This is pretty good
Now put this on a cartridge and time travel back to 1992.
And get sued by Nintendo.
Dude this is cool I love Mario I play it on my Bootleg Plug and play when I can and yes the music is odd and different from the NES but I like it cus it sounds like its being played on an organ or something
Why does all the music sound so threatening?
ElvenRaptor Sega Megatron bro
ElvenRaptor Mario bad day edition
it's all very slightly pitched down
The Genesis or Megadrive (whichever you prefer) has a very distinct more robotic sound
Blast processing.
Lol I rember thinking this was real as a kid and that this was before Sega and Nintendo became enemies
The music sounds relaxing
Nice one, Mairtrus.
i like the sound and music
I say the music is an improvment
Is this version up to Download? This Homebrew it's pretty impressive, i really feel like triying it.
Love that Low-Toned Theme
If the Console Wars never happened and Nintendo and Sega made peace...
The underground theme is a awesome awesome awesome
This reminds me of Commodore 64.
It would be kind of cool to see a Master System version
Infancia ❤ :")
It's actually pretty impressive aside from the music that is nightmare fuel.
Is the rom for this freely available? I couldnt find it......looks awesome......would love to see how true it is to the original...tricks/glitches etc.
Imagine someone editing the sprites to make it look like all-stars
It strays away from that charm and originality though and can come across to look tacky. This is very tastefully done You won’t beat Nintendo at thier own game BUT I’d like to see more like this the other hacks simply suck the mechanics done by amateurs.Maybee a Mario 2 or 3 sprite might work but I never thought the SNES really had that gritty feel too nice and polished
The parallel universe where Mario is on Sega, Sonic is on Nintendo, Crash Bandicoot is on Xbox and (xbox mascot) is on PlayStation
the music slaps in this port
Going to a gaming convention thing, it's called power up and it has lots of game consoles. And yes it has a Sega genesis I think, not been for a few years now
@NintendoComplete: For other people who really want that type of music sound but officially made by Nintendo, buy Super mario Bros. Deluxe for game boy collor on your Nintendo 3Ds, and/or New Nintendo 3DS. I don't know if both of the 2DS version can, but obviously it can't if it does not have online features. you can used credit card untill the end of May 28, or 29, 2022, I don't remember which one. And untill August 29, 2022 to add funs with e-shop card, I'm sure you can still buy untill March 2023 as long as you still have funs, Download code will work untill March 2023. And this does not just include the 3DS, The Wiiu as well, however the WiiU does not have game boy virtual console, however it does have GBA, And DS virtual conosle, on the WiiU if you do Ds virtual console, to play the game you must used the Game pad, and you can't used any other controler, and also you can't re-map the button, unless the game itself comes with it, they give you the option to change screen instead, and the option to smood out the pixel so it is less of a pixel vue
Super Mario and super playing.... regards from Jordan
everything but that music is mint. Wtf did you do to the gd music?
