I will never forget my mom's description of the game to a toystore clerk. When I turned 6 I got the game for my birthday, but because my mother didn't trust herself to get the right game, she took me to the store and check what to buy. Neither of us knew the game's title because she didn't know anything about games and I couldn't read yet. So my mom asked if they have the "jumpy guy's game" and the clerk immediately knowing what we meant. I don't know why, but it's one of those random memories that stuck. ^^'

Anyone heard of Super Luigi Brothers?
Evidently it somewhere that one exists I played it once on something probably Windows weird consoles that are sold at Christmas.
Curtis Ward that one also had the Atari version of Mario Brothers not super of course.
Oh and yeah there was a bootleg for the Atari as well that was actually on the cartridge cease and desist of course was Nintendo's response.
      However speaking of Atari.
Atari had at one time released versions of their 2600 games.
For IBM PC and XT not sure if it was both but I think it was.
Also I don't know what version it was but I know it was not Super Mario Brothers special for sure.
Had this before I actually got the Nintendo!
But it was a IBM doors version of Super Mario Brothers.
It was fairly faithful to the original Super Mario Bros.
It was played by a keyboard though!
Think I got it for either Christmas or birthday 1 year???
But don't remember the title but it looks nothing like Super Mario special which I have played before somewhere somehow.
Don't know if it wasn't official release or not but from what I've heard from others there was a Dos Port of the game.
Again I don't know if Listen official one or not but possibly????
Also interesting enough there is something interesting in Windows I don't know if this is some sort of add-on or what or Easter egg I can't remember long time!
It wasn't really a game say but you could be Mario and jumping around your desktop screen in Windows don't remember which version of Windows it was.
      3.1 or later???
There were a few questions boxes and sausage or variant of.
With the Vine that's the one I really remember!
Also there was one of those self-contained plug-and-play systems I had once.
There was actually a version of Super Mario Bros on there.
Seem like combination of different versions mainly Super Mario Brothers 2 Super Mario Bros 1 and one more plus some parts that were never in a Mario Brothers game.
Also there is a few enemies that were not in Mario Brothers games.
But look very very close to Pokemon at least a few of them!
Has anyone ever heard about the telenet Star Wars movie in ASCII characters thought I threw out that

He was also the second person to send in a 1 million point high score to Nintendo Power, but there was only 1 prize for the first person.

Note that the GBA version was actually slightly modified due to differences in the aspect ratio of the GBA and NES; Mario's sprite (and maybe some others) was actually redrawn to make it fit better, which might make it seem off if you're really familiar with the original. Nintendrew had a video all about the GBA-NES ports, I would recommend looking at that for the specifics.

It's much more likely that they just codeveloped the games. They came out at pretty much exactly the same time as you said, and was therefore very likely developed at the same time. Therefore they didn't take any levels from the other game, they designed both games to share the same levels.

14:00 Fun fact: All versions of Super Mario Bros. that are mentioned in the video are based on the original source code of the game. Yes, even the SNES version - the instruction set of the CPU in the SNES is a superset of that of the NES so the "only" things that had to be changed for it to work on the SNES was communication with memory mapped hardware, primarily how the game handled graphics and audio, and in conjunction with the port they decided to upgrade those two aspects of the game significantly.
Since this video was released, there has actually been one remake of the game that wasn't based on the original source code and that is the now discontinued Super Mario Bros. 35, which as speedrunner Kosmic points out has very different physics from the original game. They also released the Game and Watch: Super Mario Bros which features a version of the game with some great UX changes. It saves high scores and completion status between resets, lets you choose between normal and hard mode after completion and has the ability to level select any worlds you've already reached even before you've finished the game. It also lets both players play with the same sets of controls in two player mode, but that may have been done emulator-side rather from within the game. Otherwise and aside from the updated copyright date, it's identical to the North American/Japanese cartridge release of the game.

IIRC it wasn't really that they were more powerful, but that they had hardware specialized for games that weren't really found in home computers. In terms of raw CPU power, AFAIK home computers were king but that didn't mean much due to having to do everything in software; slowing everything down.
The Amiga actually had hardware designed for games to take advantage of, and that computer was where computer gaming was *at* until IBM-compatibles caught up.

One of my favorite Mario ports is "Super Mario Bros. 64", not for the Nintendo 64, but the Commodore 64.
Due to the similar hardware capabilities between the NES and Commodore 64, Super Mario Bros runs quite well on the system, and even better on the Commodore 128 since it has a 2MHz CPU mode (the NES CPU, a Japanese clone of the 6502 processor equipped to the Commodore 64/128, runs at 1.79MHz). If you can actually find the port after Nintendo tried to C&D it out of existence, it's a fun experience.

It's mostly unremarkable stuff, but as late as 2013/2014, they had a Vs. Super Mario Bros. cabinet there, and I remember playing it years ago. Sadly, it must've broken at some point, because I recently found out they replaced it with a tabletop Pac-Man machine. Fairly interesting, but it's still no Vs. Super Mario Bros. :-(

Small correction - Vs. SMB did NOT take levels from SMB2j. It was the opposite, SMB2j came out later and actually was born out of Vs. SMB. Nintendo liked making hard new levels for Vs. SMB so they decided to make an expansion to SMB and created SMB2j. In the process, the new Vs. SMB levels were recycled into it, with small changes.
Also All Night Nippon Super Mario Bros. is a hack of SMB2j featuring SMB1 and some SMB2j levels. Creative one, I might add. Also, not most stages are set at night! Just World 1. People keep making this mistake all the time...
