The kicker is that two-handed axes were usually single edged and didn't have two blades. The blade itself was also much thinner than most games tend to portray to manage the weight issue. In later years, the two-handed axe mostly evolved into weapons like the poleaxe and halberd
1:43 - Okay it was bothering me, so I looked it up. Apparently having 'The Lady' sign is the _only_ Fortify Endurance effect that increases Max HP gained on levelup. This knowledge will _absolutely_ set off the minmaxing goblins in my brain!
In regards to your question about Axes. There were a few examples of two headed Axes for battle but they were rare and were shaped way differently than what is commonly depicted, often with a much longer haft. What was more likely used was something closer to a Dane axe. They are really great at what they do and transfer a shit ton of force into the enemy. Iirc the Scottish used a combined Pike/baskethilted sword front line and two handed axe/claymore second line. The Axes were great at hooking enemy shields and soldiers to pull them aside/into your ranks for allies to kill.
There’s also the halberd and poleaxe that are basically twohanded axes with longer handles and extra stabby/hooky bits. Likewise used by various pike units to hook pike shafts and force them out of the way so their friendly pikemen had unobstructed lines of stabbing
Id just doesnt make much sense to put 2 of the same type of weapon on bough sides. It makes much more sense for your polaxe to have a beak or a hammer on the other side, more versatility. You can do it but its not optimal.

Its a great game but can be frustrating if you dont understand things like the hit chance and the level up mechanics. Modding the game can also be a pain but it's worth it, there's no game quite like Morrowind, it'll stick in your mind for a long, long time after playing it.
Best main quest story of all the Elder Scrolls of all time. It's a slow burn to start up, but once you're a few hours in, you're hooked. I suggest getting into one of the guilds immediately on a first playthrough. Thieves probably is the most fun, mages is pretty rewarding, fighters is good for getting paid for melee training. Advice: don't use the scrolls that guy who falls from the sky has on him. Not until you understand what to do after using them 😅
There were two handed battle axes, like the Dane Axe for example. They usually weren't double headed though, it just adds unnecessary weight. A pole axe (which looks like a halberd) and halberds have multiple heads, but they are a spear-axe-hammer. Polearm is mostly about the length of the handle, it's a very general term, like sword staffs, glaives, halberds, pikes, bec de corbin, dane axe are all polearms.
Honestly, being a polearm doesn't discount something from being something else too, yeah. A Dane Axe is very clearly just an axe, but thats polearm length to me
Hey, I just wanted to say that I've really been enjoying your Morrowind videos. It's rekindled my interest for the game. I had a similar thing happen about a year ago where watching Warlockracy's videos inspired me to give Morrowind a chance. When I first got Steam about twelve years ago, it was the first game I bought for the outdated little laptop I had. My thought process then was "it's like skyrim but I can run it!" and I played it for about a week and never got into it, and I hadn't touched it again till recently. I've always had a soft spot for Morrowind but I never had the patience until I was older. I know that's a "bro who asked" kind of story but Warlockracy's videos inspired me to give it a chance, and your videos show me how much more can be done with the game, and so I'm taking another dive into it. I'm glad there's good Morrowind content between the both of you, since it really is a good game that tends to be overshadowed by the newer games. Also, I think it'd be neat if you tried these kinds of challenges but for the Great House or Guild questlines, or for something in Tamriel Rebuilt. There's a version of the "I Heart Vanilla" modlist where it has Tamriel Rebuilt alongside Skyrim: Home of the Nords, there's a lot of good content and questlines between both that most people (including myself) haven't really seen on UA-cam.

I really like your take on challenge runs, some other channels skip over too much of the run and specific hurdles aren't covered as much. Also big ups for being comedic without being vivacious, it's refreshing.
As for your question on battleaxes: the vikings used some large two-handed axes. Though they would not have been double-headed like the conjured one here. Theres ofc also the headsmans axe but thats not a weapon so much as it is a tool. In general I believe there isnt much a large axe can do that a polearm cant do better which you sort of touched on. Part of the allure with hatchets and handaxes is that they are cheap and can be helpful as tools as well which you also start to lose with something heavier and with a larger blade.
Man I'll tell you what, I'm so glad I found your channel, I'm going through a rough time in my life, but I started watching your vids last night and I'm hooked, keep up the awesome vids!

I can't get over how good your content is. It inspired me to finally pick up Morrowind again and I've been having a blast with it just like old times. None of the magic left that game even all these years later, honestly
Honestly, I like this style of video. You aren't demanding my eyes, and your rather flat tone but with occasional humor inserted allows me to focus on what I'm doing, but sometimes get a chuckle when I hear a joke. It's actually a nice video to have going on in the background because I can actually focus on other things to a higher degree than other videos.
It was nice seeing some representation of my favorite play style! My first hours would be spent summoning, soul trapping, and looting summoned Golden Saints in a closet in Coldara mage's guild. I'm surprised to see the internet has never spoken of that exploit.
Yes, two handed axes did exist and were used in battle (look up the "Dane Axe" for some examples), but they weren't typically double headed, like you see in virtually all fantasy depictions.
thank you for creating content like this, i feel like i haven't been able to watch bethesda challenge vids since paul passed away. You're doing the work of an absolute legend and we all appreciate you
Regarding your Battleaxe question, there were multiple types, as surprisingly enough, they were called battle axes cause they were used, for battle. Theres no real historical example for double headed axes where they were the same on both sides, however a lot of axes has a spike or a smaller pointier blade on the back for punching holes in armor, some even had hammers on the back, some also had long hooks on the main blade for reaching around and stabbing or just hooking and enemy's leg or arm. But Battle Axes were any axe designed for war.
This actually looks like a fun way to play. If you want to suffer try enchanted items only. And the best thing is that the only items allowed are those enchanted by you.
The Danish Vikings were well known for the Dane axe probably the closest to video game battle axes, depending on your perspective the medieval pole axe might count but i think thats more of a shorter polearm
I just want to say your videos are so entertaining to watch and its amazing you can put out an hour long video like this with such fun narration and play the whole time

any morrowind content that isn't actively shitting on skyrim or starfield's leveling is a real treat honestly, love when people can actually enjoy things
Your good/bad bit at 33:30 was actually perfect comedy. Like you did the bit just long enough for it to be actually funny, and ended it just before it got annoying. Like actually god-tier comedic sense.
something that doesn't get talked about in praise of Morrowind enough (imo) is its dialogue system. Skyrim's exactly phrased responses frequently make me think "ugh, my character wouldn't say any of these," whereas Morrowind's implementation lets you roleplay more freely by just... inquiring as to a specific subject. i vastly prefer it while recognizing that it's not for everyone. maybe i'm just a geek who cares about roleplay too much. 🤷♀️ i love your channel, by the way. i don't feel bad using it as background noise sometimes considering you've built your brand off of that. your genuine care for the games and your ability to communicate with humor without sounding over-the-top and attention-demanding is very nice. thank you!

I've never played Morrowind nor do I care much for really old games, but for some reason I really enjoy watching Morrowind videos, especially this channel. I can't wait for more!
It's not that old
@@Brandelwyn It’s 22 years old. I would say that qualifies as “pretty old” for a game.
@@chipstick3856 I disagree
@@chipstick3856 pretty old, sure, but not "really old" which is the actual words you're trying to quote
50:23 If haven't mentioned you have Alopecia I'd have never known it was an actual condition, when I saw you in the last video my only thought was "Wow this dude must be so aerodynamic"
i love the chaotic little edits you put into your videos man. allways peak
I was very sick and stuck in bed for a couple weeks. I stumbled across your channel once you posted the first Morrowind video and found myself sucked into your videos forgetting about everything else. I often rewatched videos 3 or 4 times while I was sick. Keep up the great content.
I really like your take on challenge runs, some other channels skip over too much of the run and specific hurdles aren't covered as much. Also big ups for being comedic without being vivacious, it's refreshing.
31:05 It's over, Morrowind! I have the high ground!
"Hortator Supportator" earned my like on this one
you're such a content machine, I love you brother. I hope you'll never have tough times, and if you do, I hope you'll handle them well
WoW, the pace you keep releasing quality videos is really impressive.
Oh man this is exactly the kind of build I've been looking for man!
Thank you so much
Man I'll tell you what, I'm so glad I found your channel, I'm going through a rough time in my life, but I started watching your vids last night and I'm hooked, keep up the awesome vids!
You’re amazing at setting up a bit and then delivering on the bit in ways I don’t expect.
all my previous favorite game video makers and challenge runners hopped on the twitch band wagon and jsut do live streams now... so congrats youre now my new favorite video creator lol
I started playing Morrowind because of this channel, great game
Glad I subbed to this channel. UA-cam has been pretty good with the recs lately for the smaller channels, good to see the focus isnt always on huge corpos
now that Mickey D isn't making videos anymore this guy is my favorite morrowind content creator, can't believe I only found this channel a week ago
keep up the great work JBN!
"let me axe you a me" was greatly set up, awesome work
Yes, two handed axes did exist and were used in battle (look up the "Dane Axe" for some examples), but they weren't typically double headed, like you see in virtually all fantasy depictions.
Love your content. You do a great job of keeping in the spirit of your challenges
You have no idea how happy it makes me to see a longform video and channel that uploads silly gaming challenges. ❤ Keep it up dawg
Aw yeah. I found abother channel to fall asleep to. It's a compliment I promise
thank you for creating content like this, i feel like i haven't been able to watch bethesda challenge vids since paul passed away. You're doing the work of an absolute legend and we all appreciate you
Playing without music on is the only way to play Morrowind. The ambient sound and storms are so relaxing.
That water of life bit made me burst out into laughter after a 40 second delay of just sitting there processing what just happened
"How do I float?" Levitation, my friend.
Or, briefly, with Tarhiel's masterpiece. Mind the part where you very suddenly stop floating, though.
Man I love your Morrowind content...
You're literally the only one who does it.
It was the game that made my fucking youth in 2003...
I hope you dont mean the only one who does Morrowind content. Cause there are heaps of them.
@@Valkbg Comprehensive reading would answer your question.
No, I've yet to encounter other morrowind creators
@@Darkdayzz You have not searched much then.
@@Valkbg Truly, your comprehension is without bounds
@@DarkdayzzHeh, bounds
Hell yeah, new JBN video just when I needed it.
I'm gonna sleep so damn good tonight. Love ya big man! ❤
Freaking love your channel!
Huge fan of the Morrowind content in particular but looking forward to see what else you got!
Love these vids, your in-game and meta commentary is A+
23:37 that was a remarkable joke, excellent branching off on pointless yet insightful tangent. you have very clever writing skills for a harkonnen!
The Danish Vikings were well known for the Dane axe probably the closest to video game battle axes, depending on your perspective the medieval pole axe might count but i think thats more of a shorter polearm
I found you a little while ago from your RS videos. I'm really glad to see you exploding with these Morrowind videos.
I just want to say your videos are so entertaining to watch and its amazing you can put out an hour long video like this with such fun narration and play the whole time
Always excited when I see you upload, thank you!
I just found your channel last week and just let me say I absolutely live for your morrowind playthroughs
Thank you for the subtitles ❤
Once again my dude, excellent video, well written, read and researched. Love the morrowind content, you're gonna go far kid lol .
Your video auto played. I don’t normally watch people playing games, but I haven’t played Morrowind since probably 2006 (showing my age) and your editing really drew me into the nostalgia of one of my favorite games.
I finished playing through Morrowind properly (never played the dlcs when I was younger) and I love your vids! Keep up the great work
Hell yeah baby new JBN video. Our boy is on fire lately!
Morrowind content is nostalgic for me. It’s so much fun to listen to you
so, I'm pretty new to watching/learning about Morrowind. Really only watched a couple videos here and there until a couple days ago when I found your channel. You've no idea how funny it was to me to learn that Morrowind ALSO has a Fortify Alchemy loop like Skyrim.
I always always always make a "Fortify speed on touch" spell for the escort quest. Don't forget a self speed spell too.
@JustBackgroundNoise , I want to give you a very big thank you & say your doing a great job with making these vids 👍🏼
I came across your channel a month or two ago, when you popped up on my recommendations with morrowind & I gotta tell ya.
Itxs giving me morrowind fever to play the game myself 1st hand , i tried to olay years ago when I was in highschool & didnt get it... dying shortly after to the dinosaur thing just outside the first city towards a left path & return the game to the store i got it from, never to grace it again.... until years later where I played Skyrim (fell in love with it & played for atleast a few hundred's worth of game time) only to realize it was the same series
Also want to give props to your speech recording, its not only hilarious on joke delivery, it also ties well hand in hand with being able to potentially fall asleep too (I used one of your vids once (so far) to help me simmer down into a sleepiness, & have fallen asleep to one)
So yeah 🤙🏼
I never played this game and I´m not quite sure how I even got to this but your morrowind content is very fun to watch and I´m enjoying it allot
Hovering over the youtube thumbnail in the sidebar makes it look like you're just hitting the griddy in morrowind
Incredible quality and density of jokes. You managed to jump over your head. Good job
I just realized another reason i love your content, you sound exactly like plague of gripes and i love that weirdos stuff
Your videos are so good. I’m a Skyrim kid but this makes me want to play Morrowind so much
I love your content on Morrowind, always gives me so much nostalgia ✨
any morrowind content that isn't actively shitting on skyrim or starfield's leveling is a real treat honestly, love when people can actually enjoy things
Your good/bad bit at 33:30 was actually perfect comedy. Like you did the bit just long enough for it to be actually funny, and ended it just before it got annoying. Like actually god-tier comedic sense.
"You could say... I like it."
Bold of you to assume what you would like.
Ah just the hour long video I need for my breakdown day. Thanks Background!
captions on videos like this is severely underrated, thanks
something that doesn't get talked about in praise of Morrowind enough (imo) is its dialogue system. 🤷♀️
i love your channel, by the way. i don't feel bad using it as background noise sometimes considering you've built your brand off of that. your genuine care for the games and your ability to communicate with humor without sounding over-the-top and attention-demanding is very nice. thank you!
