Thank you so much for making this. Venus is an all time favorite song and since I picked this up a few weeks ago I’ve been having the time of my life. It’s a shame Tom sadly passed away the other day 😢
Hi Adrian, I know this lesson dropped seven years ago, but I just wanted to post a thank you. I didn't know this song (Television is one of those bands that I managed to miss, somehow). With your tutorial (as well as all your other lessons that I've watched, and the beginning soloing course), I have been able to work up a passable version of this song. I never would have believed that a few years ago! Thanks, and I hope you have a very happy holiday!
I remember when Marquee Moon came out way back in 1977 and you are right - it was totally brilliant in every way and is still as relevant today. Well done Sir.
This is awesome, cheers for taking the time to do this vid. Marquee Moon is the all-time "Restore All Factory Settings" album for me, reminds me why I got into guitar in the first place:)
Great band, i finally got (most of) Marquee Moon down a few years ago, and i like to play that one when i'm in a guitar shop to see who recognizes it. Great job on this lesson.
Fantastic choice, love MM and Tom Verlaine's solo debut. Red Leaves and Breakin' In My Heart (only non-B52s recording of Ricky Wilson) two personal favourites
I thought this was excellent! You explain things in a very clear way. I had a go at working this out myself and it was really helpful to compare notes especially as you're a much more accomplished player than myself. It doesn't hurt that you seem to have pretty good taste in music. Cheers!
This lesson is GREAT and great thanks Adrian!!! It would be really nice, if you have the time to prepare some lessons for other songs of Television too!!! Richard Lloyd (and of course Tom Verlaine and the whole band altogether), is awesome. I remember back when I was about 14 and first listened to Television. A great weird guitar that caused a lot of feelings jumping around!!!
fuck man I wish u were around when I was learning guitar on UA-cam 10 years ago... awesome taste in music, so so grateful for all these lessons, feel like a kid again renewing the passion!
Many thanks for introducing us to some fantastic guitar music, Adrian. I really, really love this. Now I just need a lesson on how to bend my fingers as much as you can!
You have a very great angle on music friend. It's not incidental or accidental. You either have a very good friend or great parents who have introduced you to this great music? I really enjoy your videos and they are extremely informative. Keep up the great work Pal.
Another Excellent lesson Adrian and one of my all-time favourite songs from a brilliant album... I'd love it if you gave a lesson on Elevation, Marquee Moon or Guiding Light. Keep up the good work!
Never heard them before! Heard the name, of course. Johnny Marr was a big fan, wasn't he? I thought i could detect their influence on him in that piece
Loved this one. Wasn't overly familiar with this one but loving trying to learn each segment, just need to piece it together. Any chance of some Suede stuff in the near future? The Chemistry Between Us is one of my favourites.
Hi Adrian, never heard of Television but interesting lesson. Please can you do a lesson on a Wilko Johnson/early Dr Feelgood song? I want to learn Back in the Night. Thanks
Stellar playing. I recently found out about Television, and have been hooked, hard, since. What a masterful band. A direct line between them and The Talking Heads and Violent Femmes. Brilliant lesson. Any chance you'd do "Friction" ?
Wow not exactly a piece for learning solo guitar But hey great choice not something one see's to often lessons on Television tracks You even look a bit Like Tom. Great presentation easy to follow Nice one sir
Adrian, you're the best! This is my favorite interweb experience. I've been trying to figure this song out since the early 80s when you used to have to pick the turntable arm up and place it back down again for looping. Somehow, I got Richard Lloyds email around 2000 and wrote to him about how much a fan I was, and how long I've been trying to figure out Venus. He actually wrote me back, saying I think it goes like this.....I still have that email printed out somewhere. Anyway, we have very similar tastes in bands and songs, and I just want to say thank you, and I look forward to learning songs that have been the soundtrack to my life! BTW, I've seen Television 4 times over the years, and once with Richard Lloyd, the last time was NYE 07/08 in NYC at the Bowery Ballroom, just a block or two of what used to be CBGB, amazing show, I have the setlist signed (everyone but Tom of course) and hung out with them after, Great Guys!
A request from out of left field somewhat. Any chance of the Everly Brothers "Stick With Me Baby"? It has some lovely playing throughout and one of the neatest and most melodic solos of the period (or ever for that matter). Courtesy of the great Hank Garland. It's beyond me to transcribe it as usual but I'd love to learn it.
+anyonecanplayguitar.co.uk It's a less well known Everlys song but a personal favourite. Might not be of interest to you. Wouldn't get too many hits anyway. Just want to say thanks for the great, accurate lessons and song choices. Nobody else would do the Smiths, Television and Johnny Kidd and the Pirates.
I watched this a few months back and just noticed Richard Lloyd posting it on facebook. Great lesson. Any chance you could do sone Felt songs? ( Dismantled King, or Crystal Ball)
what is that kind of movement he's doing with his left hand during the second riff in the intro? It's almost like a tap/pinching of the strings. I have seen others play like this, but doesn't come naturally to me, is this a specific technique?
Excellent. Waiting for the rest of Marquee Moon now....Those saying they've never heard the song or of Television in general, hang your heads in shame!!
RIP Tom Verlaine. Television taught me that it didn't have to be the same hoary old blues scales.
Learning this song is several guitar lessons all wrapped into one. Arpeggios, scales, block chords. It's amazing. Thank you.
Top quality song, top quality teacher.
Thanks for the tune, Tom. RIP.
Thank you so much for making this. Venus is an all time favorite song and since I picked this up a few weeks ago I’ve been having the time of my life. It’s a shame Tom sadly passed away the other day 😢
Everything about Venus is wonderful. Music, lyrics and playing all come together perfectly.

Fantastic choice, love MM and Tom Verlaine's solo debut. Red Leaves and Breakin' In My Heart (only non-B52s recording of Ricky Wilson) two personal favourites
Thanks for the video. I wish you had one that could teach me how to write such amazing music. Tom was so talented.
Nailed it again. Great lesson of a great song. And I'm sure Tom Verlaine would approve of the Jazzmaster!

Many thanks for introducing us to some fantastic guitar music, Adrian. I really, really love this. Now I just need a lesson on how to bend my fingers as much as you can!

Thanks so much for this. I have wanted to know how this was played pretty much since the album was released.
