I used to play this at gigs in the 70s and 80s. I see now I didn't play the verse part exactly right so thanks for the more accurate rendition since I plan to do a cover with my musician kids. Steve Cropper came up with some of the most clever, perfectly fitting comp parts ever.
I used to play this at gigs at university in the early 2000s and I did exactly the same! Learned it by ear and didn't realise that the verse riff started with the lower G chord, so used the higher inversion that it goes up to. Still sounded ok and nobody noticed (I hope...)
Great techniques and excellent teaching - they don't always go together believe me! Thank you!
Thank you Adian. I love your lessons. You are by far the best teacher on UA-cam, and always the most accurate.
Great job, thanks. Cropper is such a clean, sharp and understated guitarist and has been a driving force in writing, producing, arranging and playing some very cool music.
Actually - this is the best lesson for this song on youtube. For a start, the tone is pretty decent, you explain the harmonic structure, and you don't labour the fret numbers overly. So helpful when you are explaining it in terms of the intervals and triads. Thanks!
I love Steve Croppers playing and the whole Stax ethic. Brilliant musical history. This is a great lesson, thank you!
What a guitarist, Steve cropper! Genius guitar part.
Many thanks
Thank you for posting !
Steve Cropper is THE MAN of 60's R & B Soul Music !
Great lesson Adrian thanks. It's good to see you and Eric Haugen have connected, I learn a lot from you pair - Quality.
Great, instructional video. Thank you.
Play it Steve!
Great lessons Adrian, you make it so easy to understand. Just love that soul sound of Steve cropper. Keep up the great work, KTF.
Excellent lesson. Great song and thanks for the additional lesson on the theory behind the patterns.
Hi Adrian, great job. Perfectly broken down, very easy to understand. Now I just have to grind away until I get it smooth. Very much appreciate you sharing this song.
A great tune to add to my repertoire. Thank you!! 😊😊😊

Absolutely love this song. Thanks so much for making it easier to learn..Cheers.
One of my all time favorite songs! And you provided just enough gasoline for me to blow myself up replicating this tutorial. You are right, must listen to the original recording to cover this song. However, would not have had a clue how to play this song without your video. Thank you, Bert
Came back to this video again, thank you Adrian you're a great teacher!

Ooh... Baby... Now that is sounding righteous and it's so cool to see that little smile on your lips while you're playing it, you know you're bad! You a baa-ad man Adrian, a baa--ad man! I love it!

Stunning. Thanks Very Much Adrian
I started playing in 1967 @ age 14 and yes by "15" I was playing in Nite clubs and the Tele was king and on almost all the hits. It had the dominant sounds of the time. And this guy has a very nice looking "TELECASTER".
The Tele IS king....
Superb playing bud. Brill guitar lesson. I'll be studying this one. I'm a blues rocker by heart but I'm a sucker for all the soul guitar sounds! 😊
Fantastic lesson and song.... oh, and Telly. Much appreciated. Subscribed
Nice job Adrian, very nice lesson, thanks for posting it!
Thank you!
And I just watched an interview with Steve Cropper where he said he played this with a Zippo lighter as a slide! 😂
Great song selection, and well taught. I'm new to your website, and enjoy your guitar playing and teaching style. Thank You.
Adrian thank you, that was a great lesson!
Always the best. Thank you.
Excellent teacher! Thanks!
Awesome educational video, well layed out, even for a couch hacker like myself. A classic tune that is fun to play. thanks again.
Steve said that he sat down during the recording of this song (he’d normally stand in the studio) with a zippo lighter balanced on his thigh. He grabbed it to play the slide lick, then placed it back on his thigh.
This was awesome gave me a big lift, im playing for a year and a half, 8 hrs a day 7 days a week....Its my main job, bc i built a studio, and with covid its been dead!, but it gave me all this time to learn..And tonight this was so easy for me when i had trouble with rythm and my right hand...Im a lefty, i learned some chords as a kid right handed...So, when i started again at 39, i said why relearn how to play with my natural hand,,,when i stated already right handed! my dexterity and picking is great...but my right hand couldnt move rythmically, it was a dead fish lol, but perseverance paid off! a couple days ago i told myself i dont think ill ever be able to play any 16th note rhythm..i was wrong.....
Great job on this

Great lesson thank You
Excellent
Well done. Saved me a bunch of time. Got to play it tonight!😅
Awesome! Thanks a lot!
Gotta love some 6ths and triad shapes. My students always roll their eyes when I try to introduce this stuff. But it's SO useful and they sound great. Great lesson as always. Reaching for my guitar now...
Yes indeed. I always use this song as a good example of how to use 6ths and triads in a real musical situation, otherwise it can be pretty boring stuff.
Great tutorial, really helpful
Thanks Adrian x
Very good thanks!
cheers man, great video
good stuff man.
thank you, your the best,..from San Antonio,Texas USA
Brilliant
excellent tuition cheers
he shows the chords underneath the riffs!-this is where he leaves the other teachers behind.
One of the best for sure
Well thought. Thumbs up!
I'm a huge fan of yours Adrian! You and I have like the same record collection!
Much love, brother!
Thanks Eric! Likewise, I'm a big fan of your videos. As you say, our record collections must be near identical! All the best - do keep in touch.
Thanks for your reply, Adrian!

Haha, yes indeed. We must stick together!
Wow
Thankj you!
Wicked! nice one brother..
Grande!!
Great stuff!
By the way, Cropper never overdubbed parts during this classic period (they couldn't have if they wanted to, they didn't have enough tracks) and AFAIK never used slide in his playing. (There'd be no way to get it on and off in time to get back to the rhythm part.) He's famous for combining rhythm and lead at the same time.
Love that Clean sound. Dirty has it's place. But always like clean.
Just got into Steve Cropper this weekend while watching a documentary called side men talking about backing musicians and singers with famous artists and bands like Rolling Stones, Prince & David Bowie.
still say the best tutor on the tube
Great lesson. Would love to see something on dim minor scale in blues context!
Quick note, the Blues Brothers version is in E. Ask your singer what key they do it in unless you wan to transpose everything down a minor third on the fly.
cool thanks!
Brilliant tutorial. Other tutors on youtube take a look at this. This is how you do it.
Good job I just bought a inexspensive telecast from Amazon was only 109 dollars I love it left handed maple finish neck ash body even a telecaster vintage bridge
“ I love the movie ‘The Commitments’ about those Irish soul stirrers.”
