Personally feel you guys missed a major point regarding Kane. Yes he looks sluggish, yes he's also just returned from injury. But one major point with Kane that's not adressed here, is the fact that the main reason Kane still battered in goals in the Bundesliga, and also provided quite a lot for his team mates. Was the fact he was playing for a ball dominant team in Bayern München. The amount of runners he had around him, high up the pitch was far far beyond anything we've seen so far from England this tournament. At Bayern he could drop deep and receive the ball and have 4-5 players crashing the box in front of him. And also his starting positions were rarely as deep as it's been so far for England, wich means he finds himself with a much bigger distance away from the goal when he receives the ball. I think you are right, that he's probably have started his decline. But the total lack of control from this England team atm, does not do him any favours at all. He would for me be the right player up top for England if the setup was much better than it is, currently Southgate tactics (or lack there of), is exposing the weaknesses of almost every single player in that team. Instead of decreasing it, as a semi decent coach would.
Guehi, Tripps and Trent are the only 2 inclusions to the team that pushed France in Qatar. That team had Foden on the left of Kane; Saka on the right. Midfield was Rice-Henderson-Bellingham. Was same 11 that beat Senegal, too.
What changed to make the current team weaker?
All he needed was actually play a type of better Hendo = Wharton/Minoo. Bring players that have delivered for England that are free from injury and can support kane = Rashford Grealish sterling.
Pick a balancex team for the tournament not the press/media...

The chap in the grey has got this spot on. We have forgotten how disjointed the Golden boys were. They also played at the the top performing Prem sides. I actually think England are better when we pick Prem players, but not those in the top performing sides at that time. The only thing we can normally do now is pass (I know we are not at the moment) the ball. Prior to 2016 we never had the ball and that wad a huge problem as well
I won't start Rice and Maino together. In the game against Iceland none of them made a single tackle. It's like they both want to go forward always

The solution is Wharton or Mainoo at the 6, but Southgate is simultaneously tactically inept and a coward. He doesn't have the balls to bench players like Rice, Bellingham, or Foden, even if the team would function a lot better, he didn't have the tactical knowhow to bring Tyrick Mitchell, a natural LB, instead of relying on out of position players and an injured Shaw. The only way this England team rebounds is if Shaw is match fit, Gordon is played LW with Eze as his backup, and one of Palmer or Foden are in the 10. Rice and Bellingham should only play together when we're going ultra defensive. Trent and Walker can alternate depending on the opponent, but Southgate would never bench so many big names and favourites of his, have to shoehorn everybody in.
