I love these videos john . somtimes focusing on all the crap that still needs to be done on the broken or unfinished games can be overwhelming. just taking a few hours to play what you have fixed and ejoying them helps rejuvenate the love for them . don't be so hard on yourself about how well you do. I think your biggest problem is having a vast knowledge of the world record scores on these games . then comparing yourself to them . just have fun .

oh wow!!! I haven't seen a mario mini candy cabinet since i was 5 at a pizza shop! I remember one game that was in those that was some kind of crime boss zapper game! thanks for bringing that memory back!

These videos are great! I think you enjoy acquiring more than playing though. I have the same issue! I have 4 pinball machines and 1 arcade and sometimes don't play them for weeks at a time. Just sit, play, record and take it easy! This channel has exploded for many reasons, one being that games are just plain fun.
Paperboy is my holy grail. It's a perfect game.
Hi John, new subscriber here, I love your videos and also grew up in the 80's Arcade era, Seeing the various cabinet internals / repairs and really just seeing what makes these games tick is very interesting, I recently watched the whole Jump Bug restore set of videos and thought it was great, Thanks!
Paperboy is the all time best. I remember playing this in the mall arcade when I was in grade school. Nothing compares.
always a good time seeing these random arcade plays! yeah you missed the warp to 8 in Super Mario Bros. I'm pretty sure it's in the same place in the Vs. version as the NES one.
Pole Position I was never really stellar at, I did play quite a bit of the Namco Museum version, even though it's more of a conversion than an actual emulation like you would see on the midway/atari/williams collections, but still kinda fun.
Paperboy I was never really great at either, I think the most I ever played it was on the gameboy which I know is nowhere near the same, but a fun enough port! (and if I were to guess the scores did get wiped when you were in the test menu)

Zoo Keeper looks great, first time i got a good look at the gameplay. Removing those 2 bricks near the pipe in 1-2 must of been to remove the minus world bug. Bummer. Almost made it to the end of sunday on paperboy, man. Whirlwind is fast wow, sick game man; yeah that cam angle is perfect, totally follow it.

Hey jon, thanks for letting us hangout in your arcade, one tip you may wanna think about is getting some camera glasses to allow you to get some good footage of pinball, would be a good pov shot and i dont think they cost very much 😀

And GREAT call on re-wiring with a new JAMMA wiring harness and switching power supply. I'd do the EXACT same thing.
The worse thing about converting a poker game to a MAME cabinet is having an 8 way joystick for games that require a 4 way joystick. This is the #1 issue with the X-Arcade tankstick. If you don't put in your own sticks, then the bounce back 8 ways are worthless on the Pac-Man and Donkey Kong games. It is bad on Zoo Keeper, Mr. Do, Frogger, etc as well.

I saw one Zookeeper during my whole life. It was in a hotel I stayed at sometime around 1984. I played it all weekend and never forgot about it.
That 'gap' you mentioned @16:50 , is where the blocks are located to enter the minus world glitch for the console versions of the game.

I vaguely remember there was some kind of trick in Pole Position to go really fast, it has something to do with switching the gear and the gas pedal.

21:29 - I have been playing a lot of original Mario Bros on NES and have all of those levels memorized. That was fun to watch. Once you beat the Japanese "lost levels" aka SMB 2 its so fun to go back and play the original SMB.

Re: Zoo Keeper: A) Can I come over and beat John Hayes' score and B) I find that on Levels 5 and above it is better to keep the BOTTOM open. I am available for tutorials! :)

Loved this episode! I'm fine with play-throughs instead of restores, when you feel like playing games. I mean, why have the games if you don't enjoy playing them? If you want to go completely insane, try streaming an afternoon of gameplay on Twitch.

Daily vlogs John! Just quit your job and keep making these videos :D I really liked that Zookeeper arcade it´s so much better looking than C64 game I had as a kid. I really would like to build my own 80´s arcade and I wanted to know your thoughts about MAME driving sitdown game. I have so little room and I love driving games, but there is so many good games out there.

Hey John just wanted to ask you where did you get most of your classic arcades from
LED's are ok, IMO, but only if you keep everything clean and the original parts with the game.
Would it be too much work to go into your title editor screen on your video editing program and cut and paste the picture from your email into it so we can see what you're showing us on paper which is hard to see?
