- In a 1981 interview on Today with Phil Donahue, a 39-year-old Bernie Sanders says he is "not a capitalist". Sanders had just won his first term as Mayor of Burlington, Vermont. In explaining his case for socialism he says, "Do I believe the profit motive is fundamental to human nature? The answer is 'no'. I think the spirit of cooperation - that you and I can work together is better rather than compete against each other and destroy each other."

Ahead of his time even in 1981. The great ones always are
Balls of steel, he owned it and wasn't trying to backpedal either
#Bernie2020
Fact: Bernie was born age 55 and has always been a Boomer.
Yeap, that’s when the French Revolution is reenacted
Go Bernie. Rock solid, science based, economics and action. Plus solidarity for regular people. The total opposite of trump.
So you're a nutJob Socialist too? Funny how Socialism fails everywhere it's tried and yet you people still believe it can work. Venezuela is the latest example of what unchecked Socialism does to a people. Socialism is evil.
@@LuciusKyrus funny how billionaires use Socialism constantly and it works flawlessly for them. Lmao
@@LuciusKyrus funny how in basic economics class you learn usa is a hybrid system of socialism and capitalism. Have you taken an econ class?
If he was 39 years old in that interview, I am Donald trump
How old do you think he looked

Wow!!! Bernie has been delusional for a very long time.
Says the dud subbed to crowder
@Divided States of America anyone that completed middle school (f that have that in Russia) can identify the differences between socialism, and communism. I'm sorry that the education system failed you. A hack that is advocating increasing his own taxes. Got it.
Divided States of America oh yeah point 2 really compelling
@Toadflax
Capitalists are truly deluded.
@Toadflax
Capitalism is not the basis of social democracy, socialism is. Capitalism is, as Marx described, an evolutionary stage of development. Social democracies continue to socialize more and more as has been described in the scientific socialist literature. To retain bourgeois capitalism past its usefulness causes damage, which we are witnessing in the United States.
