I bought a star link satellite and can take it anywhere in the world. I sit on my terrace, on my computer now, facing the ocean. The same view used to be my screen saver...Is now my life vacation.
@@darkkstar5647 it cost $500 to buy, and $100 a month. My company pays for it. It’s a small Mobil dish. I’m switching to a hot spot soon through AT&T… it will give me everything I need at $250 purchase and $20 a month. Definitely much cheaper.

That’s amazing!! Always remember...try not to travel at night. Stay in safe places over night, put in at least 50 hours of research and street smarts of traveling in Mexico. The tangerines are good to watch and follow. They share great advice. You will find many travelers out there that have already suffered the learning curves, and posted advice on avoiding any difficulties. I have a vacation home in Rosarito, and had to do a lot of my own research. It’s a beautiful country. Best wishes.

My last corporate job was over 20 years ago. I lost that job because the business was sold and all the offices were being moved out of state. I was offered a position if I wanted to relocate. I turned it down and went into business for myself as a contractor working from home. Best decision of my professional life. I earned almost double in my first year. Now I earn triple of what was a decent paying corporate gig. I've been working at home for over 20 years now and was able to relocate to where I wanted to live. Now I'm thinking about moving to mexico and eventually retiring there. Take a chance on yourself. You might be surprised what you can do.

Good information. I am moving to Chapala in a couple months. The difference being is I am in a wheelchair after being injured in the line of duty as a firefighter. I can totally relate to what you said about Americans basing their worth on the job. After my injury I fell into deep depression. Firefighting was all I ever wanted to do. It gave me a chance to make a difference in someone’s life who truly needed the help. I never thought I would be happy again. It took years to get past that and I still struggle with it today. I do have a job now in the insurance industry which allows me to work remotely as long as I have internet. I am worried because I do hear horror stories about the internet in Mexico. I may try to start a travel blog about traveling Mexico in a wheelchair. I would also like to start a UA-cam channel for cooking as I am Italian and love to cook. @@ronbradley5631 I have AT&T down here. It's a Mexican number and is pay-as-you-go. I pay $200 MXN ($10 USD) for 3 GB of data and unlimited calls withing Mexico and to the US. It usually lasts me 30 days.

Love it, you’ve really given me a lot to think about on side hustles! I agree with your comment on trying to find something that doesn’t align with your self worth. I can certainly see that being a recipe for disaster. I think that will be tough for me as working in fast paced DC life is certainly going to be different than working side hustles in Mexico. I initially thought teaching English online would be enough for me, but now I’m not so sure! I may look a freelance writing instead, as I write a lot currently for my job.
If you already do writing for your current job, you should definitely look into freelance writing. In Mazatlan and PV, many ex pats haven't filed USA taxes for years: This means many things: 1) they don't build retirement account, they don't have coverage of disability for themselves or family 2) they didn't get the thousands in stimulus payments 3) they may be liable for the 50% penalty for failure to disclosure Mexican assets/accounts. Why not just comply while living in Mexico? Let me know if you want to market this idea: My record for "non filer" client is 33 years.

Excellent presentation, as always. The description of teaching children in China was highly entertaining. I had never heard of VIPKid. My own teaching was always with older teens with fairly high levels of proficiency so I have little experience with children. It is not easy to teach children. You have to be not only patient but also very creative. I wonder how you could teach 4 year olds online. We have some six and seven year old learners on Zoom but that is as young as we have been able to go. Do you have any tips you would like to share?
You've got it, Ray: it's not easy to teach kids online. My best tip for teaching kids online is to bring the energy. I used to tell people who were applying for VIPKID that if they thought they were too crazy in their interview than they probably got the job. You really have to be over the top for it to translate through the screen. We talked about this a bit the other day, but I got really into talking with my hands to up the energy: total physical response. It was exhausting work 😅 I also think that when you're teaching little kids encouraging them to repeat is everything esp for new students who are shy or just learning. Those were wild days.... My face used to hurt from smiling so much 😁

I'm planning on moving to Tijuana next month or so and thinking about just selling on the internet such as eBay so that I don't have to fight traffic crossing into San Diego which can take between 1-3 hours. I don't qualify for those special entry passes so I'd be better off working from home. I wonder what other work-from-home jobs I can find.

I do not have a college degree but have a HS diploma, Spanish bilingual and I have 6 years of work experience in customer service. I've been working in the private security field for 4 years now but I've worked at the oil industry as well and I don't think any of my experience is related to working full time on my computer. Update on the online teaching industry in China. The CCP has introduced sweeping regulations affecting the online teaching industry as well as huge tech companies. Basically the companies have been forced to go non profit, divest all foreign capital and stock exchange listings. Ban parents and companies from. Hiring any western tutors who study within china. Some smaller companies have already shut down. Fortunately I currently live in Asia so my teaching hours are aligned with Chinas time zone. However, the heady days of earning and teaching online with Chinese companies will eventually come to an end. Good luck stay safe.

I would say the bigger the city, the more likely they are to have reliable internet infrastructure: Mexico City, Queretaro, Guadalajara, Monterrey...the main thing is to avoid service with Megacable if possible!

Just for general knowledge, if you live in Mexico, probably you’re not just as a tourist, you’re an inmigrant (not an Expatriate) and you should pay taxes in Mexico too! 😅 and of course get your papers in order otherwise your living as an illegal! 😂

Hi, Tom! You don't necessarily need a teaching degree to work for VIPKID if you already have a bachelor's degree. It doesn't matter what that degree is in. The most important thing to get hired by VIPKID is to have lots and lots of energy. The company will want to see that in your interview, and parents will want to see that when they're deciding whether or not to sign their child up for a class with you. If that doesn't sound like your teaching style, there are lots of other companies out there & I encourage you to check them out: italki, 51Talk, Dada. Cambly, etc.. Good luck, Tom!

That’s amazing!! Always remember...try not to travel at night. Stay in safe places over night, put in at least 50 hours of research and street smarts of traveling in Mexico. The tangerines are good to watch and follow. They share great advice. You will find many travelers out there that have already suffered the learning curves, and posted advice on avoiding any difficulties.
I have a vacation home in Rosarito, and had to do a lot of my own research. It’s a beautiful country.

My last corporate job was over 20 years ago. I lost that job because the business was sold and all the offices were being moved out of state. I was offered a position if I wanted to relocate. I turned it down and went into business for myself as a contractor working from home. Best decision of my professional life. I earned almost double in my first year. Now I earn triple of what was a decent paying corporate gig. I've been working at home for over 20 years now and was able to relocate to where I wanted to live. Now I'm thinking about moving to mexico and eventually retiring there. Take a chance on yourself. You might be surprised what you can do.

Good information. I am moving to Chapala in a couple months. The difference being is I am in a wheelchair after being injured in the line of duty as a firefighter. I can totally relate to what you said about Americans basing their worth on the job. After my injury I fell into deep depression. Firefighting was all I ever wanted to do. It gave me a chance to make a difference in someone’s life who truly needed the help. I never thought I would be happy again. It took years to get past that and I still struggle with it today. I do have a job now in the insurance industry which allows me to work remotely as long as I have internet. I am worried because I do hear horror stories about the internet in Mexico. I may try to start a travel blog about traveling Mexico in a wheelchair. I would also like to start a UA-cam channel for cooking as I am Italian and love to cook. Love it, you’ve really given me a lot to think about on side hustles! I agree with your comment on trying to find something that doesn’t align with your self worth. I can certainly see that being a recipe for disaster. I think that will be tough for me as working in fast paced DC life is certainly going to be different than working side hustles in Mexico. I initially thought teaching English online would be enough for me, but now I’m not so sure! I may look a freelance writing instead, as I write a lot currently for my job.
If you already do writing for your current job, you should definitely look into freelance writing. In Mazatlan and PV, many ex pats haven't filed USA taxes for years: This means many things: 1) they don't build retirement account, they don't have coverage of disability for themselves or family 2) they didn't get the thousands in stimulus payments 3) they may be liable for the 50% penalty for failure to disclosure Mexican assets/accounts. Why not just comply while living in Mexico? Let me know if you want to market this idea: My record for "non filer" client is 33 years.

Excellent presentation, as always. The description of teaching children in China was highly entertaining. I had never heard of VIPKid. My own teaching was always with older teens with fairly high levels of proficiency so I have little experience with children. It is not easy to teach children. You have to be not only patient but also very creative. I wonder how you could teach 4 year olds online. We have some six and seven year old learners on Zoom but that is as young as we have been able to go. Do you have any tips you would like to share?
You've got it, Ray: it's not easy to teach kids online. My best tip for teaching kids online is to bring the energy. I used to tell people who were applying for VIPKID that if they thought they were too crazy in their interview than they probably got the job. You really have to be over the top for it to translate through the screen. We talked about this a bit the other day, but I got really into talking with my hands to up the energy: total physical response. It was exhausting work 😅 I also think that when you're teaching little kids encouraging them to repeat is everything esp for new students who are shy or just learning. Those were wild days.... My face used to hurt from smiling so much 😁
@CO if you can bring the energy, then you're likely a good fit for online teaching. My face used to actually hurt from smiling so much after my shifts!

I have always found over time that I lose all my money on rent and prices of real estate and rent always just spiraling higher and higher. It can be very stressful just to put a roof over your head. I'm planning on moving to Tijuana next month or so and thinking about just selling on the internet such as eBay so that I don't have to fight traffic crossing into San Diego which can take between 1-3 hours. Based on your experience working remotely. What would you think would be ideal for someone who only needs to live in Mexico for a year but want to get paid in US dollars. I do not have a college degree but have a HS diploma, Spanish bilingual and I have 6 years of work experience in customer service. I've been working in the private security field for 4 years now but I've worked at the oil industry as well and I don't think any of my experience is related to working full time on my computer. Also I am a tech guy and really good at troubleshooting.

Update on the online teaching industry in China. The CCP has introduced sweeping regulations affecting the online teaching industry as well as huge tech companies. Basically the companies have been forced to go non profit, divest all foreign capital and stock exchange listings. Ban parents and companies from. Hiring any western tutors who study within china. Some smaller companies have already shut down. Fortunately I currently live in Asia so my teaching hours are aligned with Chinas time zone. However, the heady days of earning and teaching online with Chinese companies will eventually come to an end. Good luck stay safe.

I'd be very curious about what cities have the most reliable internet.
I would say the bigger the city, the more likely they are to have reliable internet infrastructure: Mexico City, Queretaro, Guadalajara, Monterrey...the main thing is to avoid service with Megacable if possible!

Just for general knowledge, if you live in Mexico, probably you’re not just as a tourist, you’re an inmigrant (not an Expatriate) and you should pay taxes in Mexico too! 😅 and of course get your papers in order otherwise your living as an illegal! 😂

Hi, Tom! You don't necessarily need a teaching degree to work for VIPKID if you already have a bachelor's degree. It doesn't matter what that degree is in. The most important thing to get hired by VIPKID is to have lots and lots of energy. The company will want to see that in your interview, and parents will want to see that when they're deciding whether or not to sign their child up for a class with you. If that doesn't sound like your teaching style, there are lots of other companies out there & I encourage you to check them out: italki, 51Talk, Dada. Cambly, etc.. Good luck, Tom!

@@NazFanz yes, they do. I'm not a tax expert though & it's important to talk to someone who has experience working with foreigners living in Mexico. If you're from the US, I suggest reaching out to Greenback Expat Tax Services.

However, I am considering Mérida as my future home, moving there with an active 3 years old ;-). I know it’s not your topic but are there any other expats in Mexico that moved there with kids (or even single mama like me)? If you know someone that has a useful content in that matter (eg.daycare, schools, where to spend time with kids, which town is very kid friendly etc,) that would be awesome and very helpful.
