I just moved to Guanajuato 3 days ago!!! I will always be staying in an AirBnB. Water, Garbage, Elec, WiFi, ins. Is all part of my $850 per month to live downtown Guanajuato!!! I don’t need to buy furniture, dishes etc. Additionally as I evolve into this new life style, I can leave to Ireland 4 months out of the year when Guanajuato get’s to hot for me to enjoy. Regarding Learning Spanish. I have 1 hour a day private lessons for $100 per week. I love it. (Note, I spent 6 weeks here earlier this year “Boots on the Ground” experience to see if indeed this was the city I wanted… I LOVE THIS PLACE) Monday I start working for a Non Profit as a volunteer so I “Have a purpose in life” AND to organically further my Spanish. I am hoping to expedite my integration into Mexico. Such a wonderful, beautiful place…
I'm moving to Mexico in February. I'll be in the Toluca area. I was there back in July and adored the whole experience. Currently in the process of saving up my money and learning Spanish. This video was helpful, I will be making sure to get all my documents in a row and same with my Visa!

They also added us to a what’s App Expats group here in Querétaro and we are already creating friends. We are living in centro in Querétaro and appreciate all of the info you provided. I am in the downsizing step, will be moving to Mexico permanently Sept 2022. Already purchased a home in Mexico, remodeling right now. Will sell most things, load my SUV and drive from NC.

I'm sure you get this question all the time, but why did you decide to move to Mexico? I'm packing up, decluttering and trying to save money right now for my big move to Mexico. I'm trying to learn all I can before I go, so your videos are helpful and ease a lot of concerns. I don't think it will be as scary as some people perceive, but it's good to learn all you can before you go.
I'm moving to Ajijic on April 14th and boy do I have a lot to do! I had foot surgery 4 days ago so I've had lots of time to think about everything, just not able to do much yet, but I have one way airfare purchased and I know where I'm going to live so that's a relief. I went on a scouting trip to check out a place I was interested in and it blew me away and exceeded all of my expectations. I think I may donate my furniture and just start over in Mexico. I plan on checking one suitcase and taking my carry on bag and my personal item and I will manage nicely. My new place is furnished so that's a relief. So thank you Alex for all of your great suggestions and wish me luck! I'll check back after my move.
As always, great information well presented. My advice: join the membership group! It certainly gave me the courage to set off on my own move (6 months to a year from now). I have also found Alex’s approach to the move process easy to follow. Thank you for all your hard work on the channel!

Very helpful list, Alex. If I may, let me add one more item to the packing list: patience!! No matter where you go, things DON'T work like they do "back home". Frustration is a normal aspect of relocation -- have patience and a positive attitude; every day is a new adventure! Hola Taylor 👋
I'm a new member of your Move to Mexico site. I'm retired, have a friend who lives in Puerto Vallarta, and am seriously thinking of moving from North Dakota to Mexico. I'm taking copious notes and reviewing your videos. Using your videos, I feel a bit more confident that I'm making he right start. My fears or unknowns are leaving my medical coverage through the VA and Medicare and getting my prescription drugs from the USA to MEX if possible. I've set a goal of a year from my birthday in September to make a permanent move and hoping I can work with you and those who subscribe to your channel to assure and guide me along the way.

New to your channel so apologies if it’s addressed elsewhere…. Do you carry your passport and tourist/resident cards daily and, if so, how to do so safely? What if you’re going to the pool or beach? Even without the latest talk about immigration checkpoints and photocopies not being good enough, would you even leave them in your rental and, again, how to do so safely? Obviously here in the US I’m used to carrying my drivers license and such, but when I go to the beach or pool often use a hotel safe or locker, but not sure how to tackle protecting something as potentially scary as a passport full time. Thanks for any feedback!
@@leapintothewild I watch many videos. The rule is you are suppose to carry your passport and visa. BUT I think most people carry their residency card only and perhaps a photocopy of their passport. That is what I intend to do as I do NOT want to carry my passport everywhere... too much of a liability... Just my take...
@@LJ-jq8og I also watch many videos. Quite a few visitors who were stopped for ID checks on buses, in cars and on the streets report that photocopies are NOT being accepted - only original documents. Great video as always and great list. I'm currently 2 weeks away from my temp visa appointment at the consulate in Montreal with a plan of arriving in Merida in November to complete the process.
My husband is a native of Mexico with family still in Monterrey. We are both retired, and thinking of moving back there to be close to his siblings to whom he is very close. This would probably be within the next 12 months.

I want to live and work in Mexico, suggestions how much money I should save beforehand on the low side. Keep in mind, I like small, don't spend much on anything except what I need. (Most likely won't return home unless necessary). I will sell everything I own, except my vehicle and necessities.
Thank you for the great videos Alex. Question: Can I move my belongings by myself by making multiple trips on a tourist visa? Prior to obtaining the Permanent Resident visa and Manaje de Casa? Thanks.
I'm impatiently a few years out (because I'm saving money so I'm not worried about working while there). I just bought my land. I'm slowly selling things.
This is a great video! Thanks for all the good info. I do have a question. I take a handful of maintenance medications. What's the best plan for ensuring I can continue them when I move to Mexico? It's happening this year! Thanks
I hope you will think of this channel as a resource as you figure out if moving to Mexico is right for you. Lots of videos on a variety of topics related to moving to/living in Mexico!
@alex-wittman thank you! So far, it's been amazing! I have always loved Mexico, but fell in love with Guadalajara on a biz trip. For so many reasons, I want to relocate there now, I just need to figure out some of the big "hows". Your channel has been incredibly helpful!
Please do a video on neighborhoods for retirees. I can’t do stairs or walk up a Lot of hills. It needs to be walkable to nearby amenities. Also are there any “good” neighborhoods that offer ground / single floor apartments?
If you're interested in moving to Querétaro, a relocation expert recently told me that the most highly requested area by retirees in the city is the centro historico. Related, have you seen my video about Jardines/Los Arcos: ua-cam.com/video/mtffurs-MFo/v-deo.html
Hey Alex, how much money do you recommend saving for everything including plane trip coming to Mexico? I will be bringing my dog. I'm concerned about her being on the plane or in the cargo area. What are your thoughts on this matter? Loved this video. Thanks
It depends on your plan for once you get to Mexico & if you’ll start working once you’re settled in. There are other important factors like where you live, your health needs, etc. Mexico is a big country & there is a lot of variety, plus people’s lifestyles are so different so it’s very difficult to say.
I recommend checking out my cost of living in Queretaro video to give you a better idea of what to expect for monthly living expenses, but again, that’s just one city in Mexico. It can vary quite a bit!
My husband and I are moving to QRO early November. We are bringing dog , found Airbnb allowing dog. She's also my service dog so flying not a problem. Airlines that I searched do not do cargo for dogs. Only small dogs at 20 lbs with bag are allowed onboard unless it is a service dog. Do the research so you are not surprised. Plan to checkout the membership to make connections and get more informed.
@@alex-wittman - I'm not super internet savvy but am trying to connect with folks who do relocation services and see what you offer. My application and financial statements have just been sent to the consulate in Toronto. Just waiting to hear back from them to see when I can perhaps get an appointment to obtain permanent residency. 😓
I have 2 questions. 1. If youre too young to retire, jow can an American get a job there? 2. I believe that in Europe, you need a different voltage outlet to charge your electronics. Does mexico use the same 12 volt outlet lile on the USA or do i need something different?
Many Americans living in Mexico opt for remote work as it generally pays better than in-person positions in Mexico. I recommend checking out the blog Making Sense of Cents if you're just starting to dip your toes into the world of remote work. To answer your second question, you won't need a special outlet in Mexico.
What I'm looking to do is move specifically to tijuana mexico in about 18 months once my social security is established in June 2025. Now will I still need to apply for permanent residence in the U.S. Or could i just keep renewing my temporary required forms. I'm a U.S. Army Veteran with full medical and plan to get registered in San Diego. Plus I will work part time most likely in San Diego. As far as roof over my head, that's all I need, probably will just go for a furnished studio apt to start with. Great video thank you.
Is it true that the immigration officer can give you less than 180 days at the border if they deem it fit? I'm about to travel in December and need the full 180 days in order to be closer to my husband. Do you think travel insurance and flight reservations would be enough? Accommodation would be on a 28-day basis in case I move around or would volunteering with maybe Worldpackers be helpful?
I am a US citizen and planning to move to Mexico, but I would like to know if I get a temporary residency in Mexico, can I sponsor my none US citizens wife? She is from Pakistan.
I have been traveling to Guatemala and Mexico since 2002 doing mission work. My husband is going to retire as soon as we qualify for the economic solvency requirements in April (we sold our house). We plan to work with our church's Bible institute. I'm a little unsure about what kind of visa to apply for, as we plan to live on his pension plus support from our church.
I live in Tijuana, and work in the U.S. I’ve just moved here last September. I found a beautiful place to rent got Mexico car insurance for my vehicles. Now I want to get my temporary residency, I had no idea I couldn’t leave the country during the process. I cross most days like most people living on the border. U.S. citizens and Mexican nationals a like. Is the permission to cross during the wait something I can use everyday or is it one time? Your videos are amazing! I watched the 3 part on the temporary residency. I can do this. I know some Spanish, and working to learn more everyday. I have lots of friends and coworkers who are Mexican nationals, or have duel citizenship, and are bilingual who will help me. I have to be able to be a cross border citizen during the process. Help.
Lived in MX for 8 years, have my permanente and will be moving back. Need to know what I can take this time. I have a local friend that will be trailering my 2 dogs and personal belongings. I have tried to find what is allowed and what is not but can't seem to find any current information. Can you tell me where to look? Thanks
Thanks for the super informative video! I'm actually moving to Mexico in a few weeks from now on a tourist visa. One thing I've been hearing though, and something you didn't address in this video, is that Mexican officials are seriously starting to crack down on people who exploit the tourist visas to live in Mexico long term. Do you know anything about this?
Buying our tickets any day now. Doing a 30 day trip this time with intent on returning in October for 3 months. Any recommendations on a spanish classes?
Hi, Paul! I suggest reaching out to the San Diego consulate directly to ask about applying there. In non-pandemic times, that would be totally fine, but I just recommend double-checking since some consulates have changed how they're doing things.
I have applied for permanent residency in Mexico. I need to go and get the Canje stamp on my next visit. Can I do this in Tijuana even though I am planning to eventually relocate to Queretaro. I have a planned a trip to Queretaro in December but can't get an appointment at the Inm office. they do not answer the phone.
Hi, my question is buying household items like pots and pan, Sofia and recliner, along with tv is easy to find and the last question are the prices cheaper, more expensive or the same?
I've found that electronics are more expensive in Mexico, but the other items you mentioned are comparable or less expensive. Very easy to find everything on your list!
I'm planning to move to Queretaro to work online, from Calgary Canada. In my research, is the closest thing I found to Calgary in terms of quality of live, security, modernity, clean city, low traffic and low density population. Am I right? I'm Peruvian BTW, so Spanish is not an issue for me.
get used to basic things not working in Mexico.. like coffee machines at OXXO or Starbucks, Samsung Autopay will be broken, parking meters, even cash registers and scanners won't function properly at times, creating long lines.. everybody accepts it and waits patiently (i was the only Karen lol)

Email them asking for an appointment. I emailed McAllen and they sent me an email the next day with their requirements along with some dates to choose from. Buena suerte!
If this question is in regards to applying for a temporary or permanent visa, you will need to make an appointment ahead of time. Consulates don't accept walk-in visa applications. To find out how to make an appointment, go to the website of the consulate where you plan to apply and check out the visa requirements--some will ask you to make an appointment via a website, others via email.
Alex, I'm seriously begin ing plans for my move to Chapala. I'm a 74-yr old single woman. A former Delta flight attendant with 42 yrs in the sky under my belt. IF.I were your Mom, what advice would you give me? Than ks!!
My mom is also a former Delta flight attendant! She was based in Detroit at the end of her 40-year career (retired during the pandemic). My best advice is to get plugged into the community as soon as possible. I'd search for expat Facebook groups & in Ajijic specifically, get in touch with the Lake Chapala Society. These groups are great resources for real-time info about a specific place and recommendations. Plus, it's a chance to start forming your social life before you're even on the ground.

Thanks.

Thanks ! 🙏
seriously considering it as I lost my husband. I lived in Ecuador for while
I'm impatiently a few years out (because I'm saving money so I'm not worried about working while there). I just bought my land. I'm slowly selling things.
Is the early stages for me. I felt led to begin the journey ASAP. Any thoughts from the Author would be welcome!
This is a great video! Thanks for all the good info. I do have a question. I take a handful of maintenance medications. What's the best plan for ensuring I can continue them when I move to Mexico? It's happening this year! Thanks
Send of the year around December before Christmas
I need a community there, to connect with so I’m not totally alone. I’m 70, but very healthy. Herein USA, I’m totally alone.
Working on getting my visa. Getting info on application.:) Keeping an eye on the sitch here and and looking at next Fall.
I'm in the "I really want to do this and let's see how feasible it is" phase. Lots of moving pieces to figure out first.
I can’t do stairs or walk up a
Lot of hills.
@@alex-wittman thanks for the quick reply. I’ll check those videos.
The Centro is nice but too noisy and busy for me. LOL! I’m looking for something farther out.
Hi I loved your content!! Am planning of moving soon is buying a house down there differently from the states?
Very useful! Many thanks!
Glad it was helpful, Dan!
@@tr.m.8831 Thanks
What about bringing a travel trailer with you. That's what we a going to live in. Do they allow you to bring it in to Mexico?
Hey! I've been subscribed to your channel for awhile now and am looking to move south asap. Next week?
That's so exciting, Sue!
@@alex-wittman - I'm not super internet savvy but am trying to connect with folks who do relocation services and see what you offer. So please let me know if this is something you do as I really like your whole style. I see all this stuff from Mexico Relocation Services and it seems great but it's almost too big of an operation for me. Does this makes sense? ¿Tiene razón?
I’m considering a move there from China next summer!
My application and financial statements have just been sent to the consulate in Toronto. Just waiting to hear back from them to see when I can perhaps get an appointment to obtain permanent residency. 😓
Sending good vibes your way, Michael! Keep us posted 🤓
Great advice! Gracias :)
Another great show😊😊😊😊😊😊
Close to the Final Countdown. Consulate appt. is 5/27. Looking to get there mid-June!!!
Wishing you all the best, Wanda!
The weather where you are, looking for a warm like Florida
I'm still thinking about moving
I am a US citizen and planning to move to Mexico, but I would like to know if I get a temporary residency in Mexico, can I sponsor my none US citizens wife? She is from Pakistan.
How long do you need to have a passport for applying for a Temporary Resident Visa? I heard 12 months.
Has anyone here done this?
Help.
Great video, thank you.
Thanks for watching! I'm glad to hear you found it helpful!
Do you need a lawyer to assist to apply for a PR in Mexico. If you do could you recommend one? Thank you.
Lived in MX for 8 years, have my permanente and will be moving back. Need to know what I can take this time. I have a local friend that will be trailering my 2 dogs and personal belongings. I have tried to find what is allowed and what is not but can't seem to find any current information. Can you tell me where to look? Thanks
Hi. Do you have a video covering vehicles from US to MX?
We’re moving to Mexico this year 2 toddlers in tow.
Wishing you all the best for your move to Mexico, Paola!
I hadn't heard anything about that. Thanks for letting me know. I will keep an ear out.
Buying our tickets any day now. Doing a 30 day trip this time with intent on returning in October for 3 months. Any recommendations on a spanish classes?
I like Lingoda & italki for online Spanish classes!
Hi, great information ! I’m from Europe (25 hrs traveling) and I was thinking of applying from San Diego - is that an option ?
Hi, Paul! I suggest reaching out to the San Diego consulate directly to ask about applying there. In non-pandemic times, that would be totally fine, but I just recommend double-checking since some consulates have changed how they're doing things.
Many Consulates require you to live in the county where they are located. I recommend emailing the Consulate in McAllen, TX Buena suerte!
Why are you so pretty? I can’t take my eyes off you!
Very easy to find everything on your list!
got my first visit soon
I'm planning to move to Queretaro to work online, from Calgary Canada. In my research, is the closest thing I found to Calgary in terms of quality of live, security, modernity, clean city, low traffic and low density population. Am I right? I'm Peruvian BTW, so Spanish is not an issue for me.
Thank you, moving soon!
Where in Mexico will you be calling home, Lori??
@@alex-wittman Playa Del Carmen
get used to basic things not working in Mexico.. like coffee machines at OXXO or Starbucks, Samsung Autopay will be broken, parking meters, even cash registers and scanners won't function properly at times, creating long lines.. everybody accepts it and waits patiently (i was the only Karen lol)
Why did you decide to move from Mexico back to the US? Just curious.
I'm still in Mexico. I filmed this video in the US while visiting family.
@@alex-wittman Sorry I must have gotten you confused with another ex-pat, sh was moving back to US with her Mexican boyfriend. We are looking forward to move to Mexico and hopefully become happy expats.
Is it possible to find a job in Mexico, specifically Mexico City that will pay a salary comparable to the U.S? I have dual citizenship with Mexico so I have no problem working for any Mexican company in Mexico.
Hi , I downloaded your work chart but can not find the download to view it, can you assist?
We in Pensacole now and Looking to move to Mexico but not know how to...
Meaning what we need or not need to move...
Charles Schwab account is an excellent tip!
What do you mean open an account with Charles Schwabs is that the name of a bank or is it that guy from W E F , sounds confusing
Im thinking of getting the temp residency visa just in case I dont get the 180 days. but it seems impossible to book an appt here in Dallas
Email them asking for an appointment. I emailed McAllen and they sent me an email the next day with their requirements along with some dates to choose from. Buena suerte!
I been to Queatero and Guanajuato. Working at toyota
Two lovely cities!
What's your approximate monthly cost? We are considering MX for retirement.
This blog post shares my cost of living in Guadalajara: backpackingbrunette.com/living-in-guadalajara-mexico/
Do you file taxes in the USA?? Why or why not??
I’m looking to drive to Mexico should I stop at Mexican consulate?
If this question is in regards to applying for a temporary or permanent visa, you will need to make an appointment ahead of time. Consulates don't accept walk-in visa applications. To find out how to make an appointment, go to the website of the consulate where you plan to apply and check out the visa requirements--some will ask you to make an appointment via a website, others via email.
Dreaming to go
Alex, I'm seriously begin ing plans for my move to Chapala.
I'm considering moving to La Paz, Mexico..can I just drive down?
Great video Alex
Glad you enjoyed it
