Very tacky beating on that pin with a screwdriver, the guy needs to use common sense… like your shop teacher in high school told you use the right tool for the job.. My shop teacher was missing two fingers.
The more and more you take that pin out , that hole will bore out which in the long run may affect accuracy, seen on older rifles . But still a great gun !
So excited the Encore is coming back, I reload and love to play with new calibers, and the Encore system is great for guys that like to experiment with new cartridges.
Been addicted to the Contender / Encore platform since 1982. Down to 2 contender frames and one Encore frame withe a few barrels for each. I’m so happy to see T/C back on the market ❤
The joy of single shot rifles is in having a decent length barrel in a more compact package. Twenty two inch barrels seems to be the sweet spot with full size power in a compact handy rifle. Please bring back the pistols also!!!
Once your products are back on the shelf, the plan is a one and done hunting kit. I want a 300 wsm (or win mag if necessary), a 22lr (or 17 hmr), a 12g (preferably with changeable chokes), and possibly even the 50 muzzle loader. I want to have them all set up, in a single case that I can grab and go and be set for all of my hunting seasons.
Happy to see TC back on the shelves. In this video the guns you showed off has a problem. Where is the iron sights . A large percentage of hunters want them. New version should capture 100% of the market. Need to have quality iron sights. Build these and the classic-- you will get all the market for this.
A small percentage of hunters want them. I know lots of old school guys like "having them as backup" or having see through scope mounts.... but lets be honest, how many times do people really need "backup sights". Scope these days are tough, water proof, hold zero, etc. Its just not a big concern for most people. I'd rather save $40 and have a gun not come with open sights, then have to pay more for them, only to remove them and find a plug screw to fill the holes. Now muzzleloaders should probably have them (or at least offer a version that does) because several states don't allow magnified optics/scopes. So there is a big market for muzzleloaders with open sights
I use a small piece of brass bar, soft metal or hardwood dowel to knock the pin out. Bought a used barrel and the previous owner used something hard and damaged the barrel lug. Used a fine India stone to remove the peened metal, good to go. Really would like a new Encore barrel in 9.3x62mm Mauser ( or 264win mag with 1-7 twist )😊.
Thompson Center went a step farther with their Dimension rifle. I have one gun, but I can change the barrel from 270 to 6.5 Creedmoor to 243. Less than a couple of minutes. I love it. Really you can swap out the barrel and or action and change calibers. 22-250 to 7mm or anything between. I hope you bring this gun back. What a great idea. What a sweet gun.
I had a early contender and loved it i had a 10 inch 45 colt and 410 barrel . I reload and came up with a 300gr Hornady XTP round that was accurate and had good smack .
I have used the Encore around the world for many years from 17Rem through my own cartridge the 25RRI up through 300H&H to 458 Win Mag. Superb pece of kit and pleased to see TC back in business.
Gregg! You and I talked on the phone. I was having a really hard time getting my T/C Pro-Hunter across the border into Canada. I believe you did the permits personally! Thank-You Sir! I'm still taking deer with it and love it more every time I use it! Got some youngsters paying attention as well. Carry-on Mister. "America's Master Gun Maker" is back!
Forearm screws are different lengths. That's one of the issues I have. Also pounding on the take down pins with a screw driver just puts little dents and dings all over.
I have an Encore with a .204,20ga slug barrel,50 cal ML and a 45/70 with Boyd’s laminate stock and forearms. Not only beautiful but very accurate with all barrels. Looking forward to see what TC comes out with. Thank you GR for bringing the company back.
Thank you for bringing this Iconic company back to life.. T/C truly is a National treasure. True works of art! It always hurt my wallet, but well worth the stretch.. ~Good Luck and God speed to you Sir! P.S. Any chance of reopening Fox Ridge custom Shop??
I really hope the barrels are only around $350-$450 each. I wish they would be cheaper than that, but i don't think thats possible lol. Maybe the contender barrels would be around $250-$300, but then again, idk if that'll be possible. If they are around those prices though, i would definetly be more willing to get new calibers
I've owned a T/C Encore for over 20 years, have a 50 cal.muzzle loader and 7mm barrels. If I could make a suggestion. I would switch out those slotted screws on forend and replace with a 1/4" hex head and include the hex driver with the guns and you could use the hex driver as the punch to drive out hinge pin.Slotted screws are the worst. Just a thought.
I've been using TC Encores for years a d they have never let me down during the transition of companies I used E Author Brown company for custom eabco barrels for the Encore and they have all the platforms for Encore and Contender
I can attest , from 40 yrs of owning Thompson Center , Contenders & Encore's , everything he said is Facts ! I personally like using Hornandy .45 Ballistic tips with my Sabots & 120 grain powder ! It is great to see this all back up and running!! Hard to believe it took as long as it has? I cant wait to see what you have plans for the future of these actions.
I am so glad you are bringing TC back. I have a contender, renegade and omega. I know you are working hard to get things up going but I was wondering if some time down the road will you be bringing back all the TC muzzleloader accessories and lubes. Again congratulation to you and partners in this big endeavor.

TC made some really great firearms 20yrs ago. I’ve been wanting an encore for a long time. Any idea what barrel company y’all will be sourcing blanks from? Or will the barrels be produced in house?
TC has always been a favorite of mine. Contender and/or Encore have been a constant in my collection since the mid 80's. While I have rifle and pistol barrels for both I tend to keep the Encore in the rifle and Contender in the pistol, mostly because of the weight difference. My hope is a return of the Fox Ridge Outfitters custom shop at some point. God Bless America 🇺🇸
Greg, let me start by saying that, as an outdoor blood brother, I love you, and I love T/C, and I am sooooooo glad that you are bringing the brand back! BUT!...........are you out of your damned mind?! "Sell all the guns in you safe and have just one gun for everything" What were you thinking? If my wife sees this video, I'm gonna kick your ass. All she is going to hear is............."You only need one gun"! 🤣 Sooooo glad to have you back. Please start filling the shelves with the original Icons and Ventures! I have a Venture in 270 Win that prints 1.25" 400 yard groups with my hanloads. Look me up if you don't believe me! Lol
Had the original encore. Wish I never would’ve sold it. Bought a Pro Hunter FX (Springfield Mass stamped barrel) 3years ago before S&W closed the doors. Shoots all over the place at 100. Tried all kinds of different loads. Strictly Blackhorn and CCI Mag primers. Even tried the Fed 209A. All over the place. Barnes TMZ even shoot like shit. Selling it and buying from the new line up. Can’t wait for you guys to start producing again in New Hampshire. Makes me happy you guys are back in the game.
My50cal.black powder encore has taken at least 12 deer and now that they allow straight wall cartridge l will definitely be looking for a 350 legend barrel and try my luck with that cartridge. LOVE that firearm.😊
Omg, please don't hammer on the hinge pin like that. Using your pinky, push slightly as you wiggle the barrel. It will slide enough so you can grab it on the other side.
I actually have an original TC pin removal tool, but the factory pins suck for accuracy,so I got the lock in place versions that prevent any unnecessary movement and work like a charm. That should be anyone's 1st mod.
@@charleshenson4183 Cool! Oh yeah! I agree. I have the locker pin on one of my encore rifles. Locks up tight! So accurate. I put a bellm trigger spring set in both of my encores. Amazing accuracy!
Have contender and encore pistols with many barrels. Always loved T/C. So happy they are coming back. The prices now on used barrels and accessories are ridiculous.
The secret to real accuracy with an Encore is the tolerance of the pin. Factory fit pins can be loose so a Bellm replacement pin that fits snugger can make a big difference
That is so smart to do but I think it would be a good idea to pickup on the the new eld, prc long barrels threaded for muzzle furniture. A lever action pillar block action was one of the most accurate guns I ever shot.
Glad to see you are bringing the company back. Big investment is there going to be stock shares available? I have been shooting the contender pistol since around 1986. I shot with a group of four every Friday morning/afternoon as we were on third shift and Friday was our fun day. That only lasted a few years as life changes but they were great time. We would make a bet whoever kills the biggest buck the other three would have to buy the contender pistol barrel of his choice if shot with the contender. When i found out T/C was closed I purchased three contender rifle frames and since have been watching different sites for 22 rimfire barrrels with open sights but have yet to get as for they will be for my grandsons. I am ready to see the new T/C line up
Thats a great video. Never realized that about the end of the muzzleloader barrel. All I know is my encore 50 cal has put more deer on the wall than all my pretty bolt guns combined!
Great idea, but why not use a captive pin, like those on an AR? Also, the previous pricing was exorbitant, with a barrel costing as much as a dedicated rifle.
Beautiful work! Just dug mine out! Was frustrated when TC went away. Barrels & parts got pricey. I picked up a Boyds stock kit; rifle-Muzzle-Shotgun forearms…Thunbhole stock. Beautiful. Have a 270 win barrel, and 50 cal muzzle loader. Need a slug barrel. Have my eye on a 6mmbr barrel as well.
This is great news! I would like to interject one thing. Please bring back the Omega muzzleloader. I'm talking about the high-end one with a stainless barrel and a laminated stock. Put in a better trigger and any other mods you deem necessary and your on to something. There's a lot of older guys (like me,lol) that have a safe full of guns and enjoy shooting them all, so a gun dedicated to muzzleloading would be very appealing. I have a 2004 ss omega and I love it and still hunt with it.
That internal crown on the TC muzzle loader is an ingenious idea. I had no idea that could be done. Do you think that idea would translate well to conventional rifles to avoid the crown getting damaged during cleaning or during the attachment or removal of muzzle devices such as suppressors? If that works, you all might think about doing that for AR-15 barrels or licensing that idea to dedicated AR-15 barrel makers like Faxon or Top Tier AR makers like Geissele and Daniel Defense.
I have a contender and encore. I also have a 300 win mag cut down to 18 inches and a muzzle break on it and shoot 180 grn bullets and just under max loads and it dont kick, and shoots 3/4 inch groups at 100yds
My Encore is 17 years old. To change barrel to muzzleloader you had to start off with barrel. Center fire would not enter change with it on the receiver
If you can make a sub 6.5 pound rifle, stainless/cerakoted, threaded 20” barrel, with a metal bottom metal in 6.5 creed or 7mm-08 I’ll get one. Preferably an Icon which I feel is one of the most underrated bolt actions ever. You guys have a lot of tough competition. Tikka mainly, but with the right game plan I believe you can do it. I’ll support you guys if the quality is there. I’ll buy an encore muzzleloader, few barrel for it, and an icon. Also bring back the wood stock icon with the butter knife handle. That thing was sweet! Worst thing s&w ever did is go the cheap route. I’d rather pay a few dollars more for a more premium rifle. We have enough budget rifles on the market.
With all of the taking in and out of screws and pin, i would be interested to know about hardening around hole and pin and do the threaded holes have inserts? And make sure you get good scope mounts!
I have a 6.5x55 26" heavy barrel from the custom shop. 0.577" groups with 140gr sst's @ 2553fps. If you bring it back, bring back the 20ga vent ribbed shot gun barrel. I missed that one before it was gone.
Thank God you are now running the company, the brand lost a lot of Love from its former owner. An iconic brand and rifle design that deserves its loyal following of satisfied customers. I hope to see your updated models on the gun shelves soon. Lastly, its simple design is a genius blend of engineering for squeezing more accuracy and reliability than many other more complex rifle receiver systems out there. 😊
I've been using contenders/encore system since the 1980's. I like them. But this is marketing, he makes a lot of good and valid points about the system. However, he says nothing about the drawbacks and there are some. You have to be willing to deal with that.
Add in shorter threaded barrels! 16 inch .308, 300 blackout and the new 8.6 if you can manufacter that insane twist rate for it. All those should sell well in the "Tactical"markets.

What a tease! I have two tc hawkers I've taken many deer with them I need Hawken parts ! A peep sight, and a Lobo scope mount please
Great gun I got 12 barrels 1 is a custom barrel by MGM it's chambered in 264 win mag
Love my Encore ! .50 cal m/l and 25-06 rifle barrel
Suggestion: thumb screws for tool-less takedown. Or a custom screwdriver and punch that can stow on the gun. Im excited for the release!
l'am a owner of encore bp it's a great gun and plus 2 barrels 375 H&H and 45-70
Will you be threading the new barrels for suppressors and/or muzzle breaks?
Glad to see Thompson Center is back!! Im hoping you will offer a 280 ackley for the pro hunter.
So glad TC is back. I’m getting ready to order a MGM 450 Bushmaster. Will TC be offering a 450 ?
I have a contender and encore. I also have a 300 win mag cut down to 18 inches and a muzzle break on it and shoot 180 grn bullets and just under max loads and it dont kick, and shoots 3/4 inch groups at 100yds
Any plans on making a 22lr barrel I’ve used the pro hunter for years love it have shotgun 2 rifle barrels and a muzzle loader would love a 22lr barrel
I had one years ago, I simply outgrew it! You can do the same with AR's, it's a little more difficult with 308 lowers. I did enjoy it though!
Cant wait to check them out. Wanted on as a kid but was to young at time to buy gun
Like to see the 22 arc in this platform
When will you begin selling again?
Very soon!
@@TCArmsCowould love to see a more budget level option too! H&R/NEF left a big hole.
@@TCArmsCo what about shock wave bullets. I love them. And breach plugs for my encore, will those be available?
@@jeffhoose2504 Shockwaves are made by Hornady. Hornady SST's with yellow tips instead of red.
@@TCArmsCo please o' please offer barrels threaded for suppressors/brakes.
Tapping the hinge pin out with a screwdriver made me cringe
With all of the taking in and out of screws and pin, i would be interested to know about hardening around hole and pin and do the threaded holes have inserts? And make sure you get good scope mounts!
Still loving my Encore! Have a few cal. bbls, would like a shotgun bbl, FO sights, uses choke tubes
I WOULD CHANGE THE “FLAT” SCREWS WITH ALLEN CAP SCREWS ON THE FOREND
I have a 6.5x55 26" heavy barrel from the custom shop. 0.577" groups with 140gr sst's @ 2553fps. If you bring it back, bring back the 20ga vent ribbed shot gun barrel. I missed that one before it was gone.
Please have the option for a pistol frame on some of your rifle packages
Love my Encore. When can we buy barrels again? I have the original one. Will new barrels fit the old gun? Glad you own TC!
Love THOMPSON Center, would recommend Contender and Encore. Both very capable guns. I have both
Thank God you are now running the company, the brand lost a lot of Love from its former owner. An iconic brand and rifle design that deserves its loyal following of satisfied customers. I hope to see your updated models on the gun shelves soon. Lastly, its simple design is a genius blend of engineering for squeezing more accuracy and reliability than many other more complex rifle receiver systems out there. 😊
Great Video!!!

I'd also like to see that Thompson center encore with high grade Walnut stocks instead of the black plastic!
IMR white hots work great too.. I've had some really great groups with them as well and they're less than half the price of Black Horn...
