    I’ve had the power probe 4 for a while and I’ve had to have it repaired 4 times already, I’m actually going on week 7 without it as it’s back being repaired again. I never had a single issue with any other power probe I’ve had. I’m thinking about getting rid of it and going back to the 3.

      Yeah, I've had the 3 for about 10 years and I have never even blown the little breaker. Didn't even know it had the breaker until a video I saw here.

    You can buy leads that are up to five feet or more. That will let you test the wires you talked about. I've had a 4 for years and never had a problem until a guy, in the shop, dropped it. The circuit breaker came loose inside.

    Would be nice to see some more actual field testing. I have the Snap On version but only been using it for basic stuff.
    Would like to see some more advanced usage that would outweigh a normal multimeter use.

    Love my PP IV. Got the PP lead kit at the same time. It comes in SOOOOO handy because of the specialized functions it does. For current and resistance I simply use my DMM.

    We have a PP2 I find i tend not to use it as much as i should. You should make a video showing how to preform each function of the tool with other equipment. like using a set of fused jump leads with a DVOM, Test light, amp clamp and scope could be a interesting. great review very in depth.

    I think I have the 3, but the best use ever for a powerprobe is when you get locked out of a ford with the keypad code that you know. Plug it into a jumpbox, crawl under it and apply power to the starter and ground it. Then have someone punch in the number.

      @timthemechanix 4 роки тому +1

      @@raymond5145 Well, any Ford that has a keypad has a code to unlock the door if you punch it in. It doesn't work if the battery is dead. But if you plug the power probe lighter plug into a jump box or to a battery then get under the car to the starter, hook the ground clip to ground, put the tip of the power probe to the battery cable terminal of the starter you are also giving everything that gets 12 volt side of the battery key off 12v power, enough for the keypad to work and unlock the doors. Also, if you don't have the code to one of these Fords, it's always someplace on the car but not accessible when the doors are locked.

  • @rodx5571

    The Snap On is mostly the Power Probe Hook. However the Hook has SO many more features, and with one exception has every feature the 4 has, Plus a hundred more. I use the Hook for the reference voltage features when testing computer circuits. Hook has a relay tester, and 5 level circuit tester with the relay tester. Its the most awesome of them all. The 4 has one feature i wish the Hook has, and thats the reader for the ECT 3000 to know when the tracer tone is in a certain wire.
    EDIT: someone mentioned the 5v reference add on for the tip. The hook is continuously variable from .5 to 5v in reference mode. @20ma. Computer Circuit safe. I use that for sending signals to computer using a predictable .5 second pulse mode while watching data on scanner. Hook has momentary, lock on and pulse mode on power button menu. I am not affiliated with PP in any way. It's just an awesome tool. 75% of my work is electrical diag. I use it often. Watch the hook demo vids. It also has instant voltage, ohms and ammeter depending on circuit and power present.
    Thanks for hearting my comment.

      I grab my PP4 more than my meter now. Having B+ and tip voltage displayed all the time is ideal for voltage drop tests and always having good power and ground is worth it alone. Of course having the rocker switch is handy. My meter has been out lately for parasitic draw tests.

    I had the snap on one but got rid of it in place of the power probe due to the snap on one's software wasn't fast enough to detect turn signal power pulsing. Mabey mine was messed up but the snap on one just had slower response times in every way, even just supplying power and ground.

    You can get a Autel ps100 or a ancel pb100. I have four power probes! Yes I have a hook. Contacted power probe and they just blew me off! Anyways time to move on. I would not bother spending cash on snapon one half year warranty is all they give you! Yes for probably quadruple the price of a ancel or Autel! Good video not knocking on the guys video. Great video. Snapon tool $370. Power probe four $190 ancel $70 Autel $100. That snapon is massive won’t fit in tight areas! I work on semis as well. Too massive

    Maybe I'll get my crate a day early that I can do a review on it before everybody gets theirs, haha not a chance I already know.
    Thanks for the shout out I was waiting to see that I thought maybe you would do some bonus footage at the end but you definitely have to get that and I think it'll work on the power probe 2, the 3 and the 4 for sure and do some videos with that.
    Do some case studies with that and show your audience how that 5 volt reference adapter works it's a very sweet tool add on.
    You should get your snappy or other tool truck to get you the power probe hook and do a side by side with the snap on one.
    Also you might want to drop some links to the Power Probe store where you can get all the Magnificent add-ons they have which if the viewers don't want to buy it from them they can always get them on Amazon as well. You just have to watch the pricing been there and done that.
    I have the 1 2 3 4 and hook. The two three and four are slightly if not at all used on at least two of them so I may try to trade them in to the snap on guy as I believe he quoted me to $280ish last time. Snap-on guys are good if you get a good dealer but I never will pay more than two-thirds of retail just because of the fact that I understand their cost structure and there a publicly traded company. That extra money goes to the company.
    If you've got stuff to trade there's even more wiggle room I found on some things.
    The reason I mentioned the bonus footage thing earlier was I thought the adapter didn't arrive till after your video had probably already went to The Cutting floor because I know it takes a while to get them done and you had been talking about that for a while so I thought the footage was done already.
    Just remember when you have to keep Captain Ron and check you take that five molded after off and give him the full juice you might get excited with just 5 volts.
    If I knew you would send it back to me I would let you take the hook and do a review with it just you would have to do shipping back. I wouldn't send the whole case just because of the fact I can probably fit it in a little flat rate box which would save on shipping but I could always go with a medium box as well but don't quote me on that.
    If you're interested in doing something like that let me know and I'll take it up and ship it across the freight Lanes and you can do a review in a couple weeks with it from the time I get it shipped to you. Oh wait that would be to head Craig's time so damn I might have to hold off on sending it I don't want to interrupt my crate getting shipped 😂😂
    I won't make the Sunday sermon tonight because I'm over just west of Lusk Wyoming right now I pulled off in the rest area. Maybe pull up Lusk Wyoming and show you viewers on the map where that is. If you ever want to know where American Legion Post 1 is it's just east of Lusk Wyoming right before the Nebraska line. A little tidbit of information that a lot of people probably never knew I never knew till I have been driving over the road for 9 years I drove past the place many times but if you pull it up on Google Maps it's just a little hodunk town will the flag out there and I woke up one morning looked out the window and seeing the dedication plaque to it I think maybe two or three people live there in that town now.
    Anyways I missed the Sunday sermons tonight with the Reverend and the bishop cuz I was out in Utah for a funeral on Friday there. My uncle's ex-wife it was still my aunt that passed away earlier this past week so I had to drive out and see you there it was a thousand mile trip. It was cheaper than flying out there and that was before even renting a car.
    I think we need to work on the rusty belt designs on Teespring as I was looking at them last night while I was ordering one from South Main Auto. I've been feeling their Channel a little longer than yours but yours came up as a suggestion but I don't like black and I forgot if you had other colors but also I think we could touch that design off.
    Maybe you should do a little three or four week design contest where your subscribers email you designs and then you put them up for voting. top winter should get choice of two items sweatshirt included and second place should get a choice of one item sweatshirt socks or t-shirt and third place should get a t-shirt of their choice.
    Think about all the kids of all your subscribers that will come out of the Woodworks and blow your mind with The art design capabilities they have.
    I think you would get to your next thousand subscribers fairly quick as well or next 2000 especially if you're running a boating promotion as I've seen little polls where people can vote yes or no on items.
    Also pardon in a misspelling or sentences as with this much typing on a Galaxy Note 9 even it makes the thumbs and hands go numb so I use the voice typing.
    I've got a few other new things I haven't got around to using that we could collaborate on as well. I'm sure you've heard of a cardaq?
    I've been taking it easy since last fall not doing much except personal stuff so I've got some new stuff I have to test out. I need to get my garage cleaned up and make a little table with a pedestal and maybe use my osmo 2 I don't know how well that would work but I think it would work if you're moving around because I just can't sit still as I noticed you're moving around as well well holding the camera.
    I'm getting into coaching girls fastpitch softball season again so with it being that time of the year things are going to start cranking up here soon.

Remember they’ll only work one way ,if you don’t know what a cathode or anode is ,just try them both ways,if it doesn’t work both ways there’s no signal from the ecu or a short in the wires,hope that helps,

I own a lot of Snap on and Mac tools when I see Snap on tools are now being made now in China I question them as a Company.
      You may say this is not true but it is true as How it's made showed a Chinese factory making there tools and there tools no longer say MADE IN USA as my tools do.So I don't think power probe had much to do with the design or maybe very little.

      @RustbeltMechanic  4 роки тому

      I totally get what you are saying but in this circumstance Power probe was commissioned and 100% makes both of these probes. The snapon one does quite a few more functions than the power probe mode shown the in video, including amperage testing, ohm tests/readings etc... Now after this video was made, I’d say that the snapon Multiprobe is closer to the Power probe Hook in capabilities.

    • @apacheone3643
      @apacheone3643 4 роки тому

      @@RustbeltMechanic I trust power probe first before Snap on. Also to have a amp draw test built in really is not necessary as a multi meter does the same thing.Secondly the only time you need to run a amp draw test is if someone put a stereo with high powered amps in a car which I would just disconnect for testing purposes or a bad blower motor which if there is you would hear the blower bearings making noise, again you would not need a amp draw test. So on the rare occasion there is a intemitting power feed wire grounding due to insulation failure at that point the options for this bypassing and running another wire. My point is in 40 years I have only once had to run this test across a fuse only to find someone wired in a set a lights overloading the fuse.

    Have you ever heard of a place called Harbor Frieght. They have really nice tools for the professional mechanics.i never been there but I hear they have everything. I wonder if they sale snapon. We had a snapper lawn mower when I was a kid. Lots of horse power. Maybe you can make a video using the probe to check How much a corvette has. With all those amps I m sure it is up for the task. My dentist loves them but said they can be very expensive, but then again what pro tool doesn’t cost a bunch of money. Do those tools check for PSI’s or lugs. I have always thought it would be cool to fix my own car. They have special schools that mechanic go to. I wish I was a mechanic. Did you go to school for it. Sounds so much fun. Thanks a lot. Super awesome video. Very nice tool box in back ground. Was that a snapon . I think craftsman’s are red . Thanks again and have a wonderful day.

    Your reviews are great but why do you keep saying 'is going to be' they are not going to be, they 'are'. It's really annoying!

    over 300 bucks!! jesus 30 years n snap off's still constantly surprising me with how much they can get away with charging us i love their tools but theyre some greedy bastards, and sellouts now to, such a dam shame reputation-gone na but definitely not the respectable reputable brand they once were its not just snap off even companies like Starrett are making shit along with the good stuff, in a way, a tool company is only as good as its worst tool im definitely impressed with what snap off included in the tool tho instead of making u buy it extra, although at the same time that price was more than made up for in the price of the tool, more than 3 times the cost in some cases

    I’m sorry, the features on the power probe 4 ride the slim border of impractical and down right unnecessary. That multi probe takes the cake. For Pete’s sake just go get a DVOM... if that doesn’t work. Break out a lab scope. Admittedly, I own a pp4. But not “all” the features are practical
