- Waves Audio JUST DROPPED the brand new Silk plugin!
Get it here: waves.alzt.net/rQWPWv
Silk is Waves answer to the Soothe 2 Plugin from Oeksound. In this video, X O'Connor (GRAMMY winning producer) walks you through how to use it to take a lifeless or "rough" vocal recording and turn it into something that sounds incredibly professional! This is a very powerful plugin, and if you're considering a purchase, this video will demonstrate exactly what Silk can do and how it works!
Note that in this video, X shows you how it works in Pro Tools, but the Silk plugin also works in Logic Pro, Ableton, Garageband, FL Studio, Cubase, Reaper, etc. :)

Yeah, so I’ve been looking at multiple videos reviewing this plugin. By far, your review and demonstration is the best. Thank you, man - and happy holidays. 🙏
Thanks! Glad to help!!
Click the arrow on the bottom right and it will open more settings you can adjust including a gate option.
Excellent review, very well explained!
I got it!! Thanks, X!
Great review I loved the energy you gave! I picked this up for free during black friday and am happy it can provide me a very quick preview into how my vocal can sound before I go in and learn how to EQ on my Pro-q3:) perhaps I'd just be wasting my time though. Cheers!
Looks good!
THIS IS SOOTHE2 KILLER !!!
BELIEVE ME
I JUST ACCIDENTALLY FOUND THIS ON MY PLUGIN COLLECTION
ANDDD BOOM 💥 THIS OUTTA MY MIND
YOU'LL GOTTA USE THIS
amazing man!
Waves is on a tear. I use this, clarity and dereverb for film audio cleanup. I love their simplicity and insanely low resource usage.
Great Video👍🏽
check out when you click the arrow/tab on the bottom right of the plugin.
Thank you for demo-ing this. I had to ask myself, how is this much different than Manny Marroquin Tripple D? I feel like Manny should get credit for the general idea.
one of the only posts I've watched from start to finish..... This guy is the Jack Black of Waves people!!!!
Jack black of waves. 😂
I feel that this is an R6 with a PulTec3 behind it... thoughts..?
I'm not a Waves fan at all, but this plugin is really quite good. I've been using it on various wind instruments, and it does some really nice sweetening without making it sound overcompressed or fake. Definitely well worth the price, I'd say even double the price ;)
(it's free today)
Waves rules , even I do not like it!
So this is like an substractive eq without guessing which freuquencys i Need to Lower ?
Is this the soothe killer? Can I use this live? Soothe has nasty latency but I know it’s not the intended use.
Another day, another 'amazing' plug-in..
Remember there is more controls on a bar below 😊
Where would you put it in the vocal chain?
Put where you put your 1st eq
before compression, before subtractive eq and after vocal rider
Do one with rap lyrics
As a rock musician, writer and engineer, I'm constantly trying to find out if this plugin is any good for loud tough rock vocals. So far, all the reviews ore for soft pop singers. I have it but it doesn't yet impress me.
I only use free "plugins" and I like "Vocal King" plugin by J-Hud Studios for my vocals, check it out on my uploads if you wanna know what it sounds like for rock and soft vocals. I use a sennheiser "stage" condenser mic for recording which is quite crisp and great for live hard rock vocals aswell !
The thumbnail brought me here. 🤣
Most of this can already be done with simple plugins. Frequency is frequency no matter where they bounce. Learn them!
It's good, but could this not be replaced with a dynamic EQ with three knobs?
indeed but i would use it behind the dynamic eq to catch the nasty muddy sound
@@DVMNKOV Good answer. I'll experiement with that. Thanks :)
If you look at the analyzers, the Silk is adjusting multiple frequency bands within those ranges. Whereas a dynamic EQ will react when any part of the frequency range exceeds the threshold, that includes reducing the good stuff along with the bad. So I'd say, use this first in your vocal chain to quickly polish the raw audio, then carve and process in context of the mix to make the vocal fit sonically. It's a wonderful tool especially when you're receiving tracks from all different artist/ studio set-ups to keep things consistent.
@@wallsdownstudios4112 Thanks for the advice :)
This is literally a MB compressor
"Naz jus wonagotu harsta broik"? What is up with female singers these days? Nice demo of the plugin, though. Not sure I want all these things in one plugin, but I could see using this to toss onto something to fast-track a better mix.
Every preset I've tried has made the vocals sound bad,
Dont use the presets, edit it yourself.
There are worse mics than that one. Must be a Fifine. It’s a pretty good mic for under $100
It sounds phasey and over processed to me - think you’re doing way too much to the signal, it sounded better before to me.
If you do this, go get the plug-in… it’s super-good!!! Try it for yourself. You won’t be disappointed. (No I’m not a shill for Waves. I just downloaded the plug-in and love what it does.)
PS- no idea what you mean when you say “phasey”. I’m sure you know you’re hearing that you don’t like, but Indont hear anything I would call “phasey”.
I’ve got it and tried it - it does sound quite good when used in moderation, but it’s very easy to overdo it. The reviewer here is doing 10db of gain reduction at points and it sounds unnatural to me (unsurprisingly).
I have to disagree. Sounds way better processed.
😂 you’re crazy bro and what do you even mean “phasey”
Waves ? No Waves!
A USB MIC REALLY??? How about a U87? OR U47???? As a reference. IMHO USB MIC'S SUCK!
Can't tell the difference
Soothie 2 is way better
It’s nothing I couldn’t do without, actually I can do much better without it.
These plugins make such an inaudible difference…I really don’t see the point. We’re spending money on plugins that really nobody would even notice if they weren’t in the mix.
Or maybe you're the problem because your ears aren't trained to hear compression and dynamic eq???
@@JTguitarlessonsI think he’s talking about color.
Huh? EQ and compression are essential. It targets all those hard to find resonances that kill me as voice actor
Did you listen with headphones? Are you new to audio perhaps ?
This comment is crazy..
Way way too much lip flapping. Just demo the plugin.
how much did they pay you to shill their malware?
Shilling a free product?
But yes WUP is still crap. lol.
LOL ok.
