That was amazing! Never even knew of her, and this was one of the most jam-packed floor routines I've ever seen from this time period! (the 2000-2006ish range)
she was hyped up by Marta in 2004 mostly to motivate the other gymnasts. However she did not compete well enough at selection camp to make the team. After that she was injured and did not compete elite and now has a scholarship to Stanford.
I think they accidentally switched the two Carly's scores....how this didn't score a 9.8 over Carly Patterson baffles me...plus this Carly can actually dance and did throughout the routine. This is a real Floor Exercise
This is a great example of why scoring had to change because this deserved more than a 9.525..should have been a 9.7 or even a 9.8 I mean she preformed with more difficulty than most and went above and beyond the code.
it's still amazing. double layout, double arabian, pike full in and whip through to triple twist. not only did she have 4 E or higher passes, but she did them perfectly with no strain.
Wish Marta had selected two named Carly in 2004, as opposed to two named Courtney. In other words, Janiga should have made it and joined the other Carly (Patterson of course) in Athens, while also keeping Courtney Kupets on the team. The other Courtney would then not have been selected. Then at least everyone on the team would have contributed a score in the team final, this routine being one of them.
@Jose Nguyen McCool competed in the Olympics, in the qualifying round, where she was awful. She was also healthy and available to compete in the team finals, but Marta lost any and all confidence in her ability to perform under pressure, so did not use her at all in the 3-up-3-count. Also, McCool was NOT the best U.S. all-arounder, that was Carly Patterson, absolutely no question about that.
@macassar88 are you counting the double double only..because besides that their routines are very similar..I guess the main difference is basically 1 to 2 tenths at the most
WOW! I closely follow gymnastics and have never heard of her. She is an incredible gymnast! By now I would think she would be the top star...whatever happened to her?
@LMA629 Uh, that routine is amazing now. In fact I would say the second two passes are more difficult that some of what we're seeing in the meat of the routines these days.
Best routine of that quad hands down. Complete package
I think you're right.

Courtney Mccool was the best US AA at the time, she was injured thats why she did not competed at the olympics at all

@pappysprite she's on the Stanford women's gymnastics team, ranked 8th collegiate all-around gymnast in the nation right now.
