NBC has always been very gracious about Oana. They said lovely things about her at these Games.

@@jgsh8062 oh yes of course! I think I meant to reply to someone who commented on how nice BBC was in comparison to NBC - my point was that NBC usually spoke highly of Oana. But you’re absolutely right - this is BBC, and they’re great!

Really amazing; she actually injured her left ankle on her third pass, the double Arabian, and she said "my foot was really killing me with pain", which would explain why her last pass was a little bit deep on the landing. Sadly it kept her out of the rest of these Olympics:( but without a doubt one of the best floor routines ever.

Oh she injured her foot on her third pass? I thought it was on the last pass where she landed short. All her other landings looked perfect. Ack, poor kid. I can’t believe she was able to even attempt her last pass when she was in so much pain

@@intldawn yes, she badly bruised her heel. I can’t imagine how much that must have hurt to keep going- but it’s the Olympics.

The hardest difficulty from the Romanians in 2004 and the most captivating routine, such a shame she injured here. She would've been a real thread to Ponor.

She’d have definitely defeated Ponor in floor finals, her tumbling was so much cleaner, dance was much more captivating.

Fucking amazing. She was, back then, Romania’ s floor specialist, not Catalina Ponor, which is a legend alone, this speaks miles

She badly injuried her feet at the double arabian and still managed to connect 2 whips into a double pike!

She could've won 4 medals at the 2004 Olympics. Gold on team, gold on floor (better tumbling than Ponor), bronze on beam (underscored in quals compared to Eremia), and bronze in all around (her qual score was similar to Zhang Nan's but beam/floor was judged stricter than in the finals). Too bad the injury here prevented her from being one of the stars of the games.

I doubt she medals in the AA. She doesnt get huge scores on any event, not even her strong events- beam and floor, and her vault and bars are both weak. She could have medaled on floor for sure, and had she been in beam finals she could have medaled but was beaten out by 2 teammates.

    • @saragrant9749

Did it ever occur to a selfish individual like yourself that Carly was disappointed in HERSELF? She didn’t perform nearly to her standard or potential for the team and was disappointed in herself as a result. Same with Makayla Maroney, angry and disappointed with herself for giving away what should have been a gold medal. You want disrespectful? How about your precious Catalina trash talking the judges and her fellow competitors in the next year’s world championships after not winning the beam title!! She made a significant error and was lucky to even get bronze, but of course she was so self entitled she felt they should have just handed her the gold. When they didn’t she responded with rudeness and disrespectful behavior towards the judges and competition. Her actions should have resulted in the stripping of her bronze in those championships, for unsporting conduct.

People rightfully complain about the lack of dance from the Americans, but how come Romanians from the mid 90s to 2004 get a pass? Horrible form on their tumbling (really messy form), bent and unparalleled legs, unsplit leaps, bad posture, the standard Romanian Belu choreography with that choo-choo move with the arms that they all have, no flexibility, generic musical intepretation, etc. They just picked way better music than the crappy music the Americans picked in 2004 that made the Euro trash crowd excited. IMO, the Romanian dominance from the post-Soviet split is what caused the lack of artistry and dance and attention to finish and finesse. The Americans under Marta just continued that philosophy but at least since the open-ended system, the Americans have amped up the difficulty.

You are spot on the mark. That code was a joke, focusing exclusively on dance while completely ignoring tumbling form. Floor gold was a perfect example- the most horrid form on tumbling- EVER- but dance elements were completed so it was given the highest score while others who had much cleaner form but different- not less but just different- dance were disregarded. Today that routine wouldn’t medal at all. You’ll notice that the open ended scoring was the downfall of Romanian dominance- they could no longer get away with basic, generic routines especially on bars.
