@Malcolm O'Toole I'm fine with this playstyle of "build your board turn 1 and go from there" instead of something incremental like Magic, where you build your board slowly, adding to it every turn, I think both are fair, just different from each other. But I do have a problem with completely locking your opponent away from the game in the first turn, and I understand that the "build your board turn 1" thing enables that, but I don't think it's the problem by itself.
I remember a time when starting the duel by placing 1 facedown monster and setting one or two spell/trap wasn't considered a death sentence every duel.
But your opponent had to take a long hard think about just what cards did you set. Getting a Blue Eyes on the board, only for a Man-Eater Bug to yeet it... brings back some not so fond memories. And then the next turn the opponent uses Monster Reborn to take control of your own Blue Eyes? OMG!

I used to like only playing traditional decks on Yu-gi-oh pro but that was like years ago now and even then syncro summoning was current meta and that was like the beginning of the end for traditional decks, yeah I remember when chain summoning and chaining cards wasn't common because you needed certain cards that could only be used when other cards where in play or in your hand and it was impressive to pull of a chain and you had to actually spend most of the game trying to summon your strongest monster before the other player while also trying to stop them from summoning their strongest decks monster. now though man people run like 30 card optimized meta decks that let them summon their strongest monster in one turn with all sorts of card effects that destroy opponents monsters, magic cards and trap cards. the current meta decks are just ridiculous when it comes to chaining and now with pendulum and link summoning more summoning mechanics added to the game these decks are just becoming way to easy to summon what ever you want, games rarely last longer then 10 minutes anymore especially if you go on Yu-gi-oh pro and duel other people who will wipe your deck in a couple minutes.

I keep seeing new yugioh content because im on a binge due to nostalgia and i gotta wonder: what happened? When did it become that you could play half your deck turn 1 and pull out 5 different monsters that wpuld have been boss monsters on their own in the past? When did it become that spells and traps almost never get set for more than a turn, let alone setting ones that protect you from combat dmg? I remember when i played a duel could last half an hour depending on the deck, and it would be at most a 3-4 card chain for your turn before you would end it. I want to get back into it but the game seems to have become a "have a duel last 3 minutes and hope to god that your meta deck counters their meta deck" automatic playstyle shit. Its like you can just set you deck down, draw, and then play on autopilot until the duel is over. Man, things have changed.......
That turn 1 was obscene in a bad way. Yu-gi-oh shouldn't be about having your entire field covered with boss monsters with negation effects turn 1. Maybe limiting the number of special summons & negation effects per turn could help the game.
One of those cards was banned for exactly that reason, Guardragon Elpy, but it has less to do with the field of negates and summon spamming than how easily it is abused and looped to hell.
So fun fact for you guys, borrel savage places the counters on HIMSELF, not the equipped monster. So if you destroy the equipped monster, all it does is reduce his attack.
it kinda happened in the movie but i think they simplified it, it still seemed silly, i don't see why every card needs a book worth of special ability text.

I just looked at the First Turn the opponent did there and I'm just happy that I never got into the competitive Scene of Yu-Gi-Oh. I would probably have responded with a monster card in def position and a faced down card, loosing in the next turn. I have no idea what the f a synchro or a xyz summon is.
Synchros and Xyz’s aren’t actually that complex. Synchro: Synchro Summons are based around monsters with the type “Tuner”, which you’ll see listed alongside types like Beast or Warrior. Each Synchro Monsters requires certain numbers of monsters with or without the Tuner type, and levels that sum to a certain amount (for example, a Tuner and a non-Tuner with levels summing to 8), and sometimes some other requirements. If you have monsters that fit the requirements on the field, you can tribute them to summon the Synchro Monster from your Extra Deck. Xyz: Xyz Monsters, instead of having levels, have a Rank, indicated by stars on the left side of the card rather than the right; IIRC, any mechanics based on levels do not work on Xyz’s. To Xyz Summon, you need certain cards, usually consisting of a certain number of monsters with a level the same as the Xyz’s Rank (for example, a Rank 4 may require 3 level 4 monsters), again sometimes with other requirements. When these requirements are met, you may “overlay” the monsters used to summon the Xyz Monster from your Extra Deck; the monsters used are stacked face-down under the Xyz, and are called its materials. Xyz Monsters generally have effects that require you to “detach” a material from the monster, sending it to the graveyard; if the Xyz Monster has no more materials, these effects generally cannot be activated.
TLDR, Synchro: needs "Tuner" monsters, can be summoned if the levels of monsters used (when added) EQUALS to said Synchro monster. Example: if you have LVL 2 Tuner monster + LVL 4 Normal monster = LVL 6 Synchro monster can be summoned. XYZ: can be summoned when monsters (at least 2) have the same levels as the Rank (XYZ monsters don't have a level, but instead its "level" is called a Rank) of said XYZ monster. Example: if you have two LVL 4 monsters = you can summon one Rank 4 XYZ monster. Same levels summon the same Rank.

Yugioh has the innate problem that it has no resources to balance. In other games you have things like mana, land, or some other finite supply of things you need to spend. In yugioh the only limitations are 1 "normal" summon per turn, and the cards themselves, it's why things like pot of greed draw two are insanely broken, but in pokemon draw 7 is a meh secondary effect. The more ways you have to get cards the more cards you can play in a turn, the more opportunity you have to get more cards. This combines with the fact that 1 card can win you the game on it's own to make it so the only decks that can succeed are the ones that can draw every card in their deck every turn if they have to, just to get their one game winning card.
In the past yugioh was a strategy game. Like chess . You have to plane you move, your tactics. Today you play a card and you can summon 5 other monsters. The deck plays alone.

Board was shit
I used to play competitively like 10 years ago and you never saw so much card movement in one turn. It is crazy how different things are now.
I remember a time when starting the duel by placing 1 facedown monster and setting one or two spell/trap wasn't considered a death sentence every duel.
Don’t worry, it’s still not. Just gotta have the right cards and know the choke points. I do hate links tho.

I would probably have responded with a monster card in def position and a faced down card, loosing in the next turn. I have no idea what the f a synchro or a xyz summon is.
Same 😂
When your turns nowadays take that long, the game has some serious flaws.
TLDR,
Synchro: needs "Tuner" monsters, can be summoned if the levels of monsters used (when added) EQUALS to said Synchro monster.
Either this is a joke or every skull servant I went up against played it wrong 😂

Otk or brick
That first turn played like half a deck lol

Tried getting into it recently, synchro, pendulum, xyz, no thanks….
Remember Forbidden Memories? Making a Mystical Sand and Black Dragon Jungle King was the badass highlight of my career
Yugioh developers are the anti-Thanos.
"Balance? What's that?"
how
@@jm-sh6qr Did you not watch the video?
@@JK-ko6en what's your point
@@jm-sh6qr Yeah i don't get it either
@@jm-sh6qr hes basicly saying how broken the game is now... honestly kinda wish dark magician girl dragon knight deck is that good lol
That first duel was actually funny af, and I knew what was going on lol.
Thats why I will never sell my skull servants :)
Old yu gi oh Players first turn: I draw a card and summon a monster in face down defense position and set a card.
New you gi oh Players first turn: I draw a card and I send half of my deck to the graveyard.
Yugioh romantically in your childhood: Blue-Eyes White Dragon
Yugioh in competitive reality: S K U L L S E R V A N T S
Lmao never understood the game just collected and liked the shiny ones 😂
two of my top 5 favourite decks in one video
love it!
This shit is why I started playing the pokemon tcg instead, back in my day you rarely summoned more than one monster in a turn. Now its "i summon 7 blue eyes white dragons and techno summon super mega ultra chicken which allows me to draw 10 cards, giving me the ability to attack your life points directly with monsters who's name start with m, now i activate my magical mana pool card giving me 100k lifepoints which i sacrifice to summon 12 more blue eyes white dragons, which i then send to the graveyard which allows me to fusion summon TWENTY MORE BLUE EYES WHITE DRAGONS which i then sacrifice to put all the pieces of exodia in my hand, I now end my first turn with a facedown card.... which allows me to summon ONE HUNDRED MORE DRAGONS"
that moment you draw your whole deck on your first turn
What about hungry burger turbo
Xhalonick Konami banned that for breaking then rebuilding the universe.
I want that shit on my UA-cam notifications. Love HB!
i heard after hungry hamburger turbo was banned shapesnatch otk took its place
yous gon git dem cheeks took my nigga Honestly, I think that deck’s impact on the meta was overblown, especially considering the rise in the Jerry Beans Man control deck.
It was taked out of the meta by Jerry beans xyz FTK
What happened to this game, it used to be a game of skill and actually about outplaying your opponent, now its just "either win by turn 2, or lose by turn 3"...
Any chance of sharing the skull servant deck build..?
In the first comment
3 of every skull servant cards.
*plays this deck*
*Opponent summons all 5 exodia pieces on turn 0*
💀
I know alot of them are a year old but seriously people. Most of the comments on here are from people literally being toxic idiots all because of a differences of era's. Honestly I think they all have they're positives and negatives and people just need to quit acting like their better than someone else because of a difference in era and age. Like for me...I don't have any understanding of how Pendulum and Link work but I'm not gonna bash it because I miss the old days. Honestly would love to learn how to use them really.
Beat a skull servant deck with magic cylinder, OTK
Brian Alexander Skull servants be like: Magic Cylinder? MY WORST ENEMY
xXShuKurenaiXx it was the best 😂 because they spent like 5 min drawing, discarding, powering up etc, and on their attack phase it all went south 😂
@@bythewaybrian3894 That's why I like to have my own Magic Cylinder and Barrel Behind the Door.
That's why you always bring out The Lady in Wight
@GhostlyOutcast and I care why? The original comment never mentioned destroying it prior dude.
Love that pic!! “Perfection”.
When are they going to drop Skull Servants 2 : Electric Boogaloo ?
I literally haven't played Yugioh in at least 16 years, but I'm still watching this with intense fascination.
Get back in! Plenty of super fun casual decks out there!
as an older player i came in thinking this would be a meme, but then he wins in literally one turn after the dude set the board with half his deck. wtf have they done with this game
