❤ I could listen to you talk and tell stories all day long. You have a beautiful southern drawl. I'm a Texan, so I got a slight drawl myself from time to time depending on who I'm speaking with. ❤

As an older fellow South Carolinian, it’s such a great thing to see the younger generation of gays come into their own. True growth is about being open minded and allowing yourself to experience cultures and lifestyles different than your own upbringing. I appreciate and applaud your candor and presentation of self reflection as a tool to help others. BRAVO 👏

Dylan you really make a big difference in peoples life’s also sharing your story helps straight people to evolve and become more accepting of others . The main thing is to be yourself and be authentic And be honest and true to yourself and others, there are always going to be haters against gays the main point is to not become like them don’t pay attention to the ignorant miserable people, don’t listen to the crows, and the chickens rise up like the eagle in the sky pray for them and ask for forgiveness . there are a lot of good Christians but also a lot of hypocrites and very angry people. God is love I live with my husband of 35 years if you’re ever take a trip to Hawaii your always welcome to stay in our Ohana or Guest house 😇

Thanks for giving some background where you’re from, Dylan, and how life is in the South v bigger cities. I love your accent. It’s melodious, clear, easy to understand and just delightful listening to you! So glad you’ve made good supportive friends in your life.

I’m originally from a small traditional village in the Outer Hebrides, remote islands 40 miles off the coast of Scotland. So Dylan I am ignorant of USA geography & history, and the differences between different places.
Because of this unique background where I’m from I have a very melodic accent that lots of ppl love, but I’ve also experienced being treated like a “country bumpkin” & stupid: but like you I’ve a quick mind & have learned to push back, with added disarming charm & humour.
I give thanks to YT algorithm serving up one of your videos 2-3 weeks ago, and I’m so grateful for your insights & reflections. I find your sharing stuff to be really meaningful, and you help me at where I’m at, both with your insights & really blessed positive attitude.
Our culture was also v fundamental religious, and I speak Scottish Gaelic to my dad, which influences my sing-song accent that everyone seems to love and resonate with. I recognise some of those beautiful colours in your own speech, AND btw learners of English love guys like us, cos we speak slowly and with great clarity 😊. Your wee videos are reaching out & helping folks beyond you might realise, so big thank you and much appreciation from Scotland

I’m a native Spanish speaker in a small Latin country, I do realize that Dylan has a beautiful southern accent, and I really appreciate his vocabulary, not a single swearing word, which is wonderful. I don’t know why, but foul language in my native Spanish or the English that I know, resonates in my mind in a very disgusting way, I’m not a saint of course, but language makes all of us so special, doesn’t it?

As a gay, out, Christian from Mississippi, I’ve lived the last 14 years in the San Francisco Bay Area. I’ve become very used to living an out proud life. Next year I’m planning on moving to Asheville, North Carolina. I miss southern hospitality. I just hope it’s as liberal and accepting as I’ve heard there! Thanks for your insights…

Everything you say about life in the South is true.. so glad that you are such a caring man.. in spite of how poorly you were treated.. especially by your own family..
Ignorance running wild.. so well said.. happy to hear there are some good people where you are that are open minded..

I identify with this video a lot! I’m from just over the hill on the North Carolina/Georgia border in the southern Appalachian mountains and I’ve had many many similar experiences. Being gay and being from southern Appalachia is definitely a……unique experience to say the least, having an Appalachian accent and sounding like someone who hates gay people because of my accent and being gay myself lol. I really like the video, other southern gays you’re not alone.

Living as a blue collar worker in Maine I can relate to much of this outside of the religious aspect in the work community and a community of common ground working with your hands you are not accepted you go into cities and sometimes even gay men are put off and call me rural. I’m sorry I led my life as my own? Sheesh. People as sensitive as they are are still very critical to what they do not 100% identify with. I am a new subscriber and I’m fascinated with what you say, even tho your pretty it’s not about your looks.

Yes-My Family had difficulties but got over them because of My Loving and Resilient Nature! I lived through the AIDS Crisis. Lost Many Many Friends due to Promiscuity. Southwest Arkansas gay man here. Enjoyed your video as I relate to so much you talked about, even though I'm quite a bit older than you (I'm envious of you young guys who are able to come out in their teens, as I was about 27 when I finally came out after having spend almost two decades in the closet (I understood what I wanted at an early age). I also sympathize about the Protestant churches in small southern towns leaning heavily towards the Baptist faith community (I'm Episcopal, a real outsider in small towns). Yes, indeed, the worst part of a small town are the people that never left, never spent time getting to know people unlike themselves, who knuckled under social pressure to get married and start producing children, to hunt and fish and drink for entertainment, and go to church on Sunday morning. I was active in band in high school so I was always going to competitions around the state, band camp at the University, and took a summer course at a university in Colorado. All these meant I was exposed to a wide range of people, some like me, some very different. By my senior year I was anxious to move on to college and get away. And I did, for 40 years, spending half of that in cities in Arkansas, and have in Dallas, TX. I finally came back home to live due to medical problems that I foresaw getting worse (they did). So anyway, I feel like I understand what you had to say. Wishing for you safety in this polarized world, and that you find the happiness you desire.

Yeah, handsome, I hear what you're say'in about the South and alll. However, having been born black, and gay, then, most unfortunately, raised a a Texas Christian, I've found it most enjoyable eating perceived crumbs with condemned bumbs over eating tasty, but stomach-turning steaks with hypocritical snakes. The same sins you find among the unchurched, you find among Christianity, in it's pulpits, never mind its pews. You can have the South, sir. I've concluded it's climate, weather wise and spiritually, not compatible with my peace in God. Remain blessed, sir. :)

Sorry to hear that you have to live in an area where you don’t feel free to just be yourself! I personally could not live in an arena such as that! I hope your family has grown to appreciate and accept who you are! You mentioned meeting people who are Buddhist like myself, I grew up Catholic, which I gave up at fourteen because of all of the negative aspects of it and many Religions! Let’s face it, Religion was developed for one purpose, to control the masses! Myself not being one of them!

Hey Dylan, I've been with a Mississippi man for many years (not in MS but in CA). We made many trips to his mamas house in the Delta area. While folks may have known about us, they said nothing and were cordial. Kid of the old way of saying we were "that way". I never experienced any negatives while visiting there. BTW, love your accent and you do not look 29...which is a good thing. Good luck. Also, they only use the parts of the Bible that back up what they want to believe but ignore all of the other admonitions the Bible presents. Religion IS control.

You're a little dollbug!😊 As for myself, I'm older than dirt, born in Florida (East Coast) raised in the Smoky Mountains of NE Tennessee in the squalor of poverty in mountain woods (age 4-16). I was a very effeminate little boy, I must have popped out of my Mama with a pocketbook & sensible hat, gloves, & high heel shoes. Bless my Mama, she thought I would grow out of it, I was clueless that I acted any different, never really paying much mind that I preferred the company of girls on the playground, because they did cartwheels, danced (I loved dancing), & just had in my humble opinion a better time during recess. The boys were always running around throwing & catching balls & wrestling all covered in dirt, mud, & boogers... 😢OMG! It was horrible to watch!
Now mind you I was teased horribly & brutally bullied by some, but mostly adored by others... I mean I am a hoot to hangout with, always have been, unless I'm in one of my pensive moods, 😢then I go sit alone & read until it passes. I still to this day smile & say howdy-do to folks as they pass me on the sidewalk. I get the stink eye from some, while others smile & say hello back. I cook only Southern "sticks to your ribs" cuisine, it's all I onow how to cook. I've got a pot of Chicken & Dumplings on the stove now, you're more than welcome to a bowl & I always have food in the ice box. May not have a pot to piss in, but as all mountain folk I keep a packed cupboard.
I've lived in New York City since 1985, due to the dangers of being openly gay in the South, people like myself had awful things done to them & some even lost their lives for simply breathing. I've met more good folks down South than bad, but it only takes one beer bottle thrown from a passing truck to ruin your morning (thanks mom love you too)🥺 & don't get me started on how beer & blood stains are hard to get out of your frilly pirate shirt. (And that was me toning it down) 😮
So when I got out of the military service (that's a whole other post... Best of times worst of times situation) 😂😮😢😂 Instead of going home where it was made abundantly clear that my newly professed sexuality (came out of the closet to my mom when she visted me on the base where I was stationed) & was told that I was an abomination to God & I was not welcome back home until I decided to stop willfully hurting my mother by claiming to be gay. I could wear a pirate shirt & sing Tanya Tucker & Karen Carpenter songs w/ my hand on my hip & the other swishing away to the lyrics until the cows came home, but to be my authentic self-realized Self was not allowed. Until I publicly
rejected Satan & his influence & denied being a homosexual & begging for Jesus' forgiveness I wouldn't be allowed back home nor have any communication with them. I had been cut off from my white trash hillbilly family & had my life threatened if I ever came home gay.
So, I got an opportunity to move to NYC & son I can certainly back you up when you say it was a definite culture shock. I'd seen city life, but nothing compares to NYC. I was 18, gorgeous, & living on my own & on my terms. Well I'm still here after 40 years & loving life. 😊 I'm glad you got to go back home, that makes my heart sing! Cherish that blessing. 😊Lovely to have met you through your channel & I've liked & subscribed! Can't wait to see more about your journey. 😊❤️

Hi Dylan. I was all set to go on my holiday destination this week, and circumstances have now changed for it to go ahead next week. I found some screenshots from a few weeks ago that I did not know I did with a great amount of commentary of a derogatory nature. I am ashamed as I go for a night out, and there is stuff there I have no recollection of investing in. I do not know you, I have no idea who you really are. The only things I have to say about you are all positive. Please accept my apology one last time.

Oh Dylan, you have such a wonderful style and are such a thoughtful and understanding person despite the terrible challenges you have overcome in your life. I hope that your stories and wisdom inspire young gay men to live happy and healthy lives. Xx

I was raised in Los Angeles and NYC. Currently I am living in RURAL Kentucky (where my husband was raised) temporarily. (5 more days, been here just under 2 years) What has surprised me here is that the people you might judge as being against you are the ones that are quickest to come to your aide. Whereas the people you might think are the most open and welcoming, turn out to be the ones that disappoint you the quickest. The south isn't what I expected in both very good ways, and some kinda disappointing ways as well.

If you want warm weather, without the humidity and bugs, most beautiful beaches and freedom for gays COME TO CALIFORNIA. I CANT UNDERSTAND YOU BEING THERE. Hilarious to think Missourians are open to gays. You could have true freedom.

Well, guys, if you want to move to the deep South, very much including NC, which has one of the most right-wing political ruling parties in the nation, you will suffer but you can only enrich us with your presence. The legislatures are already working on anti-sodomy laws, supported by evangelical protestant, mostly Baptists, churches whose members for the most part need a righteousness they can keep (nothing gay) so their salvation is earned and not by faith. I live in a town of about 10,000, and I don't know of a single gay couple living together. The subject is never mentioned. The youth are a bit more open than their parents probably because of porn. Anyway, for deeply personal historic influences on me in particular, I remained celebate all my life into old age. My community supported my work, I think, because they personally prospered from it. I love them anyway. I even have some mercy on myself because if God finds that gift to be in His nature, who am I to exceed Him? Bless all you men out there: hugs, kisses, and pats on the butt through digital touch, since in no other way can I love you.

For whatever it’s worth, I returned to celibacy after college (after only a small handful of experiences). Here I am at 58 taking care of my remaining parent here in Greensboro, NC. I just learned to concentrate on the things I enjoy in life: trout fishing, history, my family, the stock market, weather, etc.. There’s more to life than sex and pairing. 😎

@@molipaul Almost the same story here in SC. Made my life through cultural studies, productive work, creativity, and a life of listening for God who actually does speak in so many ways. But, the desire for manly contact has only increased with celibacy, transfiguring itself into a longing for union with God Himself where all desires are met, the union and contact of the I and Thou.

    OK, Dylan
    Dealing with your hater family.
You simply take control of the subject.
They pull that crap, you say yes, thats ok
(In a real friendly caring tone)
But you quicky "spook" them by saying but when you die, I won't miss you. Etc.
They will quickly "table" the subject and accept you
Also, your boyfriend, turns into your "bodyguard" and quickly solidifies your lifestyle.
Pull some witchcraft on that sweet southern family
    God bless them.
RC cola & moon pies and all.
    LOL ...Dylan

This is my spiritual belief, I'm gay and going to heaven, but the only way to heaven and eternal life is with the acceptance of Jesus Christ as our Savior. Only through HIS death and HIS resurrection could I be saved from my sins and have the hope of eternal life. There's NO other way.

You know man, if everything like science and religion disappeared completely; science would come back the same. Religion would not. That informs one, one is not true.
There's only one way everything physical works and the scientific reality once worked out can never be any different.
Note this: The ancient civilisations had many gods, but they weren't moralistic gods, by nature. They discovered and had developed much knowledge into engineering. Hardline monotheism has always destroyed what was once known, but never is in discovery. Often dictatorships. Religion and faith by nature of belief, is utter bullshit.
