    I don't like discord communities. They always end up being extremely toxic. Not safe places to be around. Unless its a small discord of a friend, I am outta there. Therefore I wouldn't like to offer people a community I can't manage 100%. What is happening now is that because they can't control the communities, they are enforcing extreme moderation, but not towards toxicity, towards any other type of thing. I am trying to remember a discord server where I didn't run into toxic people. The saddest thing is when mods themselves are toxic. Discord is a very low place of the internet.

    26:26 shout out -- Devin your videos are absolutely one of a kind and full of information you can get nowhere else on UA-cam. You have been instrumental in my own UA-cam journey as a creator and I look forward to each and every one of your videos. I thank you so profoundly for your amazing, heartfelt, and well thought out material. Please keep it up when you have the time! You told me to simul-cast long ago and it has been a boon for my streaming. So glad Twitch is getting more on board with this.

    Your content is a hidden gem. people return after 2 months because nobody puts out the information you do in the way that you do it. You are an industry exec that has unique experience as an actual creator, making god damn 40 minute notepad breakdowns. Anyone who doesn’t see the value in that isn’t looking.

    26:26 Looking good Devin, thanks for the vid.
    I remember you saying that it didn't matter if someone stayed in a single niche on a youtube channel anymore since recommendations are based off of the "algorithm" aka audience search and history. Is this still accurate or should people stick to a single niche, or connected niches, for each youtube channel?

  • @AshSaidHi
    @AshSaidHi Рік тому +3

    I respect your opinion Devin, but I really wish you didn't call content creators "dumb" for having opposing thoughts on multi-streaming. There is way better language to use and there are valid concerns against multi-streaming. Being everywhere doesn't completely solve visibility if the content lacks originality and voice. Thanks for your video.

  • @CallMeTeci
    @CallMeTeci Рік тому +2

    tbh, those guidelines say three things.
    1. Downgrade your other streams quality to Twitchs level. (Twitch offering the lowest officially supported bitrates of all platforms i know)
    2. Dont do ANYTHING that might lead people from Twitch to other platforms. (Super vaguely worded, but sounds to me that this includes everything from links in your Carrd/Linktree to even just showing in your stream that you are streaming on UA-cam, Kick etc. incl. Banners, Alerts and combined chat)
    3. You are not allowed to use any multistreaming tools and things like banned combined chat will make the experience on other sites worse (no interaction, no alerts etc.), incentivizing viewers to move over to your Twitch stream again.
    What this is meant to do is to make people broadcast their Twitch streams to other platforms, practically transforming them into an constant ad for Twitch on the sites of their competition.
    I do also think (like Devin) that there is no way to enforce that and as it seems on SocialMedia and Co. - nobody even realized that those new guidelines exist, because every news title just screams "multistreaming on Twitch allowed" and even big creators will do it, without caring about the restrictions.
    BUT i think this leaves an incredibly bitter taste in my mouth if we think about what they were trying to achieve here and looking on how they tried to sell that. Now their incredibly dishonest Pr about that, shot them into their own feet, bc everybody ignores the guidelines.

    • @RebeccaEmcee
      @RebeccaEmcee Рік тому +1

      I agree with you, every time I bring up those restrictions on multi-streaming everyone goes, "Yeah but it doesn't matter because they can't enforce it"
      So? It's Twitch's attitude towards their creators that's the problem. Though I do think they're getting a bit better.

    • @CallMeTeci
      @CallMeTeci Рік тому

      @@RebeccaEmcee tbh Twitch did one shitty move after another over the past years and it pains me to see how everyone is giving them Ws like its candy. Even this change does not look to me like it was actually meant to benefit the streamers, but just the platform.
      And i think everybody who believes that Twitch gets better or suddenly starts to care about their streamers, might get a wake up call very soon.
      imo they have to officially support 8Mbit without strings attached, add AV1 encoder support asap and stop enforcing their guidelines in such an arbitrary way. (Thats also why i was complaining about the vague wording of the new guidelines)

    • @RebeccaEmcee
      @RebeccaEmcee Рік тому +1

      @@CallMeTeci I'm with you, everyone always thinks I'm just being negative for the sake of being negative or I'm a "UA-cam fangirl" or something. I left Twitch about two years ago to stream on UA-cam and everyone thought I was crazy. Since then, I've been very vocal about how Twitch isn't good for creators, so people think I'm just going to be negative no matter what. I have people arguing with me and going to ANY lengths to defend Twitch.
      But the thing is, they've been so bad that any move they do, like you said, everyone just goes "OMG TWITCH W!" And it is for their platform, they don't really do anything for the streamers, although I think this does benefit streamers a bit more than they used to. I don't like how Twitch says stuff like, "You can't merge chats to ensure your Twitch community has the full experience of your livestream," that's just stuff to try to make themselves look better.
      While I think it is better than what it was, the bar was already really low. Like I'm still not gonna multi-stream to Twitch because I just don't believe in giving them power.

    • @CallMeTeci
      @CallMeTeci Рік тому

      @@RebeccaEmcee I agree. tho i would still use Twitch - there is no reason to not use them for your own gains and they are still the most popular streaming platform. Consumers are lazy (me included tbh) and diversification is important. Thats why i multistream to four platforms, no matter the guidelines and viewers can choose which platform they prefer.

    • @RebeccaEmcee
      @RebeccaEmcee Рік тому

      @@CallMeTeci Yeah, objectively I totally see why using Twitch is still beneficial but personally, I'm just a really unforgiving person and Twitch has gone past the redemption point for me. Just feels wrong for me to stream on Twitch.

    Your content is valuable Devin, when I had to write an essay on good speakers I pointed to your channel and videos! Without any effects, games, or video that UA-camrs typically NEED to be worth watching, you capture an audience with your profound knowledge and speaking ability. A lot of us are simply loyal Devin fans who watch because we trust that you will make the video interesting.
    But it is our bad for not showing enough love, as I've watched almost every video over the past two years and haven't commented at all. Most times I'd rather move on to the next video, so enjoy this message as even if I don't comment again... I'll still be watching and enjoying your videos, 26:26.

    For what it's worth your videos are a lot like marketing lectures I've been in. You ARE teaching marketing and have a large bulk of experience that equates you of similar value to some professor. UA-cam is going to be my top of funnel(1440p gaming streams/videos, 1080p shorts), shorts going to TikTok/Twitter and eventually a members discord down the line. Your videos provided a lot of information and insight to help me finally make the decision to do UA-cam. I'm trying to gauge how useful it would be to multi-stream to Twitch. Not sure my computer would handle a 1080p/720p stream on top of me doing 1440p high bitrate streams with the games high quality settings(with recording 1440p on the side).
    So far I like my system and am more than satisfied with the organic views considering the kinds of games I'm playing. Also 26:26 , I'm one of those 90+% viewer duration viewers :D

    26.26 🙏🏾Looks like Twitch is HOPEFULLY getting the point. Multistreaming is like the best way for NEW streamers to grow an audience. I'm about halfway through so I don't know if this has been mentioned, but one big benefit of skipping affiliate on Twitch is that your viewers don't get ads. I watch someone who streams to 500 on UA-cam and 350 on Twitch. He monetized only on UA-cam and holds membership streams there. Viewers can watch ad-free on Twitch if they prefer that chat interface, and then he has the benefit of the of raiding through Twitch at the end.

    Gansta 2626 crew! Also your comments about Clancy spot on. He was everywhere during TC and was a constant social presence. Lastly, your YTs are great!

    this type of professional level content on new industries (streaming is still a new industry, influencer etc) I find very useful and interesting, and I'm in a totally different sector, still I get gems from this I can use. I really like understanding different business models how they work. Really not much content like this getting made, the majority of it is from the angle of 'let's talk about this online scam'. You come from it inside on the decisions needed to make these careers work, I guess there are blogs out there doing this... keep at it. It has longer term value too, as a document of changes in an industry.

    26:26 dude you saying that your content is not valuable is insane to me. In a way, I am happy to see even people of your caliber have imposter syndrome it makes me feel better about myself. Recently, I watched a video of Sean Gares interviewing Bryce Blum regarding his article on the Esports Reckoning, I would love to hear your take on that subject (I watched your appearance on Montecristo's podcast, loved it.)

    As a content creator who manages my own brand, your videos are THE MOST VALUABLE videos for me on the platform. I tell every one of my peers who is serious about their career in content creation to watch your stuff. God bless you, man. Don't listen to those intrusive thoughts.

    Good news! I am mainly on YT and was really interested in streaming and dedicated myself to Twitch for a while. I started multistreaming earlier this year and it's been a lot of fun, despite the issues with the platform, I do like Twitch and this is a good step for them. I was worried about getting banned but am too small for it to be on the radar so I'm happy they went ahead with this!

    .... twitch discoverability is far greater than youtube as far as streaming goes.... youtube streams are basically invisible to anyone who isn't already following you and even then they need to be looking for your stream

    A huge benefit of simulcasting that I have not seen mentioned is more potential to be raided. e.g. If you never stream on UA-cam you could never be raided by a UA-cam streamer. I don't know the true value of being raided, but at least anecdotally I have followed a few creators from it.

    • @DatSamurai

      Oh this is HUGE! A raid from a big streamer on Facebook Gaming (of all places lol) is what got me on the map there. Was multi-streaming to Twitch and UA-cam with like 1 or 2 views before that. This happened back in 2020 btw, but very good point!

    Devin your knowledge and presentation skills are top of the tree - thanks so much for the brilliant sharing. As someone who does all the backroom management and tech stuff for Venusworld on Twitch, where we have worked for over 5 years building up one of the warmest and most positive communities around, this is music to my ears (excuse the pun). Will be referring back often!

    Devin please stop doubting yourself. You may not know this but the takes you have use a logic that is not very common.
    You take time to look into all perspectives or at least be informed on them. This is immensely valuable.

    Love you Devin. Your stuff may not be what the average (dummy) zoomer likes to watch, so you're not 30 million views or whatever; but for smarter more patient and 'good' people it's A+. Which is honestly one of the best quality videos one can watch
