    I have 6 BSA R10s they all perform faultlessly. I have 2 x 177cal 2 x 22 cal 1 x 20 cal 1 x 25 cal. All with the latest mags and never had a problem. All tuned by various tuners : Airtech, Ratworks, Custom Airguns.

      Sweet, yes the latest magazines are better, i have used them. I pointed out the Mk II issues and the mags it comes with so people are aware. Thanks for the comments and hopefully people will read and decide if to get new mags for it. 6xR10's now that is just greedy :) :)

    I had a BSA R10 Mk 2 in 0.177 for several years and loved it, until it was stolen, along with my Weihrauch HW100K 0.22. When I got a bonus at Christmas, I bought the R10th. It is amazingly adjustable, and I love this rifle too.

      Great choice. The newer R10th has an upgraded regulator. The newest R12 has a near huma regulator, so I would say go with a HUMA regulator if you need to replace it, but if under warranty, let BSA change it to their newest version of their regulator.

    Hello Steve from Wiltshire . Love that you have just done the R10 . I have just tried one out at my local gun shop and I love it . I put 10 pellets through the same hole at ten meters as that is the range that is there , I am impressed with the R10 and now I am saving hard , so I may own one myself ,but at 800.00 pounds it will take me awhile to save up . Love the show and enjoy all the i formation you give as I keep learning more and more keep them comming . From one of your fans in Wiltshire

    I own a R10 SE and my wife has the Ultra SE and love them great traditional shooter the magazines have been worked on and never had an issue with them. I know at Rat Works when you send a rifle in for a better regulator and work done they chamfer the pellet holes to make it better to fill and probe to index next pellet. Great review on a great rifle. My next ride is something small and tactical

    • @airgunology

      yes a good rifle, but mags can have issues as comments in this video show. I agree, the mag is pellet fussy and does need a little work doing to them. It is not with all pellets, and is hit and miss.

      I graduated from an Air Arms S400 to a BSA R10mk2, which some bastard stole from the boot of my car last year. However, it was ensured, and I bought a BSA R10th in.177 to replace it. I have only put a tin and a half through it (JSB Exact Heavies), but I'm loving it. I got it as a combo with a Hawke FastMount 4-16x50 IR scope, a sling, a bipod and a fairly sturdy case. I do find the scope a little limiting with a fairly large solid centre to the reticle, so have ordered a Nikko Stirling Diamond FFP 4-16x44, where the reticle is half-mil dot, with 1/10 mil dot turret resolution. I want to do HFT with it, and the large centre cross on the Hawke would bugger up getting a precise holdover or holdunder.

      @@Dragonblaster1 Must have been something wrong with your air arms S400 as i have both and i would say the S400 is as accurate if not more accurate than the R10th Only trouble with the S400 is the amount of shots per fill and being a single shot. Plus the S400 is a better gun for especially hunting as it is quiet a bit lighter.

    Dear Steve .... The CHEAP plastic cheek piece on the R10th isn't cheap plastic at all. It's lovely soft touch wood. It feels great against your face. Please don't be scathing about things you've not checked out or tried. The bolt action on R10s is butter smooth especially on a well used gun like the one you tested .... it has the old black and white contents gauge not the newer multi-coloured one .... I never wish for a side lever. I bought mine 2nd hand with a reasonable scope for £500 and as you can I guess love it. There is nothing in the price bracket to touch the R10. The shot count is a class leader. I get at least 120. Double the count for an S410 or Huntsman both of which are in the same price range and are unregulated. Also never had an issue with indexing. Perhaps the mags have improved?

    Hey Steve, I've got an "American" FAC BSA R10 MK2 in .22. At first it was shooting at around 855 fps at 30 ft-lbs energy. Since it started leaking in the regulator I switched to the HUMA regulator a week ago and now it's shooting at around 910 fps. Haven't taken it to any range yet so I don't know how accurate it is now. I may need to tamp the speed down a bit, but it was previously shooting hole in hole at 75 meters. 910 fps may cause the pellets to corkscrew, so I'll have to check and adjust, if necessary, when I take it out next weekend on the Indian Reservation. With the previous regulator, I have hit a 5 inch steel target at 200 meters, uphill, three time successively. This is my favorite rifle, and pinpoint accurate at higher speeds than the UK ones. If I could take it to the UK, then you may be changed in your review of how accurate this $1200.00 dollar made for American's rifle is. It outperforms my AA S510 constantly. The AA S510 is quite accurate, but this one is more so. You guys really do know how to make air rifles! Hats off to England and their air rifle manufacturing! Doesn't GAMO own BSA now?

  • @WizWise

    So surely the R10th is th for thumb hole, and I believe the adjustable cheek piece is wood not plastic, it is just the outer coating that is a type of plastic for soft touch feel. A good honest review with good and bad points noted, thanks Steve.

    That quirky ridged bit under the barrel is cosmetic. I suppose it could be argued some material has been removed to save a little bit of weight but if that were true why not make it lighter by making it evenly thin. Could be useful for tying bits of string around for the purposes of securing camouflage? Or for resting pre-rolled ciggys?

Steve use bullet points notes just below camers works for everyone else, my Superten has its original BSA 10 round metal magazine works fine, check and clean 1 time a year faultless proformance from it, fx mags arernt that fiddly either , R10 is in the top end for its quality and price, outshoots some guns twice its cost.

    Looking at the damage around the magazine slot and the magazine stop plate on the right hand side, that is a well used rifle. It looks as though pellet delivery into the barrel is not very consistent, hence the poor grouping. My thumbhole new 2021 MK2 se carbine puts h&n field target trophy .177 pellets in groups that can be covered by a five pence piece at 35 yards. My previous MK2 from 5 years ago did exactly the same. I like your review, but I don’t think the rifle you were testing is a great example. My thumbhole cost me £850 brand new from a well known Lincolnshire gun shop. It’s a fantastic rifle.

    the mags have indeed improved the early mags where aluminium which you would have thought would have been better but really wernt, also, on the R2 using the modern plastic are they 4th gen mags? dont use the mag retaining bolt on the left hand side, it doesnt need it and it compress's the lighterwight replacment palstic mags and causes them to misfeeed, which otherwise perform without problem (was going to say flawlesly but realised i could not spell it)
    On accuracy i gave my .22 Mk2 to my mate first 10 shots all made the same hole at 25m, dont know about the one you had but mine its not so much pellet fussy, though it did settle on air ams diablo as it like to be "shot in" and the groups tightened up after the first 1000 pellets through it, i can usually put down a 10p sized group of 10 shots at 50m from a prone position, sometimes even a 5p, but thats a really good day
    On shot count, i fill to 232 from a hand pump, its a pain, but i usually get about 150+ shots per fill, filling to 200 then less than 100.
    you are however 100% right on the dust cover and this actually caused my R10 to void its air bottle, easliy fixed and i now have a bueat of an after market brass fill port plug with the BSA logo on top from ebay
    keep it up love your vids

      Load the first 9 pellets tail first into the back of the mag. Then put the 10th pellet head first into the front. This will cure all pellet loading issues even with small pellets even JSB express. Also take some spring tension out of the mag so less pressure is applied to each pellet. The mag will no longer jam and accuracy will improve by 20-25% just like the single shot loader. The Jsb Heavy or Bisley mags also improve mag operation and accuracy.

    I don't, as yet, own a BSA R10 Mk2. This review has made up my mind to get one though so thanks for that. There's a couple of things niggling me though. One is the barrel, all those I have looked at (in .22 as that's my choice of calibre) have a barrel shroud, the one you have there doesn't. Do these make any difference? If not, why do they have them? The second thing is, bipod. If a bipod is fitted, will there be enough room to fill the gun with a bipod in situ? Other than those little niggles, I think it's a gun for me. Thanks for the review, nice job.

    • @hangarrat
      @hangarrat 4 роки тому +1

      I’ve got a .177 R10 Mk2.
      The shroud is removable should you want to. I’ve left mine on just to protect it.
      I put a cheap Amazon bipod on her, it does cover the filling port but a few minutes with a Dremel cutting disc soon solved that.
      Might be different with the .22 version but I had various, even premium pellet brands, jamming up in the magazine. I took her down the local range one day and she was acting up, a guy came up to me and said “R10 jamming up? Try Bisley Magnums” and bugger me I’ve never had another magazine jam.

    • @airgunology
      @airgunology  5 років тому +1

      It only has had a different regulator in it and that will not affect anything else. I made this clear i think. This was a mkII review and the magazines used were the ones supplied with the rifle, so fair I think. Yes if you use newer type mags, you may get different results, but that is not fair as that is extra and not original mags on mkii. Many others have issues with bsa mags as the comments below testify. Some people are lucky and have no issues, but it was worth me pointing this out to potential buyers, so at least they can make an informed decision rather than the usual BS reviews you get by the other channels with nothing bad to say as they are paid.

      Many rifles come like that. It depends on where the o-ring sits compared to the thread. Over tighten to line it up will destroy the o-ring and hence leaks.

    My own R10 Mk2 .177, completely standard,gives me about 100 or slightly more shot from a 200 BAR fill and shot down to 100 BAR. Using H&N FTT i've never had a single magazine jam or malfunction. 13mm mountts are needed for proper scope fitting to avoid the scope being canted over or you can use those that split vertically such as BKL or Warne style mounts. The picatinny bit as you call it is purely for aesthetics/decorative purposes.
    On the later TH models the cheap plastic comb,as you put it , on the stock is actually a soft touch covered wood comb..
    You need to do a bit more homework before making such comments if you're going to do rifle reviews for public viewing.
