      You are correct. There have been a number of articles now, and more info has come out. The net net is: bird strikes are not fatal incidents. The plane wasn't in that bad of shape that he had to land so quickly. Moreover, none of the measures used to slow the plane down were engaged. I read an article that discussed landing gear & landing procedures. There are back ups of back ups, 3 systems of back up for the landing gear & if all this fail, there is a MANUAL PUMP the pilot can use to lower the landing gear. the flaps weren't raised. the reverse thrusts weren't turned on. AND, the worst of it is that he touched down 3/4 of the way down the runway. that's a LOT when u are counting on distance to come to a stop. it's almost too horrible to even say.

  • @giorgoszamanis6654

    I am not an expert but the plane is going really fast, as if no flaps were used at all for some reason. Even if the landing gear was operational, there is no way it would have been fully stopped by the end of the runway.

      With no landing gear down as a firefighter I wouldn’t want to be a casualty myself. Not knowing how the plane would respond once it was on the ground or what direction it would veer too. They were at the approach end of the runway which is the best location to be in this situation. Had they been as the departure end of the runway they could have been cause up in the incident themselves.

  • @YortOK
    @YortOK 3 дні тому +56

    He either tried to go around or he couldn't deploy the flaps, spoilers or reverse thrust at the appropriate times. It sounds like the engines are still at full. A belly landing isn't an automatic disaster. The friction with the runway works in their favour and the plane should still come to a stop. Something else was happening here.

    • @sauls1168
      @sauls1168 3 дні тому +5

      I agree. I timed 9 seconds from touch down to reaching the end of the runway and 14 seconds to impact. The engines appear to be at reverse thrust such as per the engines thrust door being open. Could not see flaps probably why was travelling so fast. No air brakes either? Don’t these planes have manual gear wind down? Wouldn’t traffic control advise there is a wall at the end of the runway? Or the pilot know this from experience.
      If they landed half way down the runway and travelled 1km in 9 seconds that’s an average speed of 400kph! If they landed with more runway they were going faster!

They tell us about that vest to blow and pull in case there's water. This doesn't apply to this. It's a suicide landing and hitting that wall.
