After 2 days of bleeding my new master and slave cylinders to no avail, I followed the instructions in the video and had immediate results. Thank you so much for restoring my sanity and getting me back on the road!!!

Worked great! I followed the Hayne's repair manual after putting in a new clutch, clutch plate, slave cylinder and hydraulic line on my 95 Ranger 2.3 and couldn't get it to shift in to any gears. I bled it exactly the way the manual called for but I just couldn't get the clutch to disengage. After watching this video I got it! Didn't take that long either. Anyone who has a Ford Ranger/Mazda Truck and needs to bleed their clutch hydraulics needs to watch this video... :)

I just wanted to say thanks....there is no way I could have bled this system without this video.....followed to a "T" and presto....got clutch.....thanks a bunch for posting!!!! FYI to anyone....BENCH BLEED! Don't take short cuts......

Thanks for taking the time to make this video. The Haynes manual said I could do this while still on the truck for my 95, I tried and tried, what a joke and waste of money on the book. Worked the first time after watching your video and removing the clutch master cylinder from the vehicle. My clutch is way out on the end which isn't good but time will til....Thanks again.

This is very helpful. Thank you. Suggestion: I would change the title of this and your other related videos to include the Ford Explorer, as the Explorer uses the same system. You will get a lot more hits and be able to help Explorer folk that don't know it's the same system.

Thank you for posting this. I removed all the air from my system using this method and the transmission shifts perfectly now! No excuse not to do it this way, folks! The fender liner is easy to remove on Rangers, and from there, removing the master is a breeze. Awesome. It was a little bit tricky to bend the line between the master and slave fitting as the bends are quite stiff. But using various clamps, I managed to create an uphill path all the way. :-D

Sir I do not know your name but I want to send you out a huge thank you you are very intelligent if it was not for you and your videos that I've watched three or four of them I never would have got pressure in this master cylinder and pressure line I had a good friend that was a licensed mechanic and he came out here and could not do it I've been trying to figure this out for a long time now several weeks and I watch tons of videos and your videos were the best ones by far the way that you handled yourself and explained in detail how to do this helped me so much my mechanic has made me spend a lot of money on you parts that I did not even need I had to go by a new master cylinder supposedly so I went and bought one before he left the day that he was out here and did not finish the job I didn't know it at the time but he had messed up the brand new master cylinder that I had bought so here I am trying to fix this pressure line and get pressure in the clutch system and couldn't even do it because the new master cylinder he messed up so I didn't know it at the time so I continue to try to get pressure in the line and never could do it I watched your videos hooked it up just like you showed and still didn't get no pressure finally realize that it had to be the brand new master cylinder and then I realized that he had broke it took it back to AutoZone and got a brand new master cylinder hooked it up just like you showed in your videos with the pressure line did not put in the rod for the piston I'm using a screwdriver like you showed I had bubbles coming up and the master cylinder is getting more pressure I believe I will finally be able to drive again thanks to you and your videos I so much appreciate it my email is Marine Dre at gmail.com give me a shout out sometime sir thank you bye-bye

Really want to thank you for this well-done, simple explanatory video. After watching several other videos of shortcuts and tricks, some of which may work SOME of the time, I noticed fluid coming out of the top of my clutch master cylinder, meaning it was defective. Once I saw this video, I knew there was going to be no shortcut for me and this is the way to guarantee success. You can also see why most of the shortcuts won't work unless there is no air trapped in the master cylinder. The only shortcut I saw that could work in that case, is one guy who unbolted it from the firewall, tilted the rod downward, stretched the hose under the car (basically doing the same thing as this video IN the car) and proceeded to bleed the system in the vehicle. But since my master was leaking, I had to remove it anyway.

Thanks for the tips on this. I replaced the line, master and slave cylinder ..and tapped on the line watching bubbles from in corners popping up into the reservoir then pushing the plunger in,which left me with 1/16 of push left in the plunger about 5 mins worth..awesome video!
hooked it to a new slave cylinder on the trans and bled that for 2 full refills,
now my 91 Ranger 4x4 is just like new again ,besides the minor rust ...
Thanks once again, truck came to life....

Thank you for this video! I just changed the master on a 00 ranger. Old OE one had almost no throw and started intermittently no disengaging (ie kill the truck and stop, put in gear and start). After getting the new one in, no pedal at all. After watching your vid, I pulled it all out and hung it up. Took a lot less effort the 2nd time. Lolz. At least it was done right the 2nd time. Thanks again!

I've never had much luck with gravity bleeding anything. I have an adjustable prop that is made from a squeegee handle that works by pumping the pedal ( brake or clutch) and bracing it against the drivers seat. In the case of my ranger the only part needing bleeding was the new slave cylinder. The pedal showed signs of resistance in the first three pumps. Leaving the prop holding the pedal down I opened the bleeder. I repeated this a second time and was done. This method works on any brake or clutch system that I can't attach my pressure bleeder to due plastic reservoirs and that type of garbage. There has been some clutch systems on trucks years ago that needed to be reverse bled but that is another story. 43 years experience.

Things always work quick and easy when they are removed from their normal environment. Bench testing, like this, is always going to be much easier than when you are dealing with it in your driveway. The actual bleeding - on the bench - may take only a ''few' minutes but, you don't give any indication of how long the whole job will take when you have to do it from start to finish.
I would like to see the job from beginning to end -- starting with the removal of the master cylinder, reservoir, and line, from a vehicle while it is parked in a driveway; all the way to reinstalling it and bleeding the slave cylinder there. That would give a much more realistic idea of the difficulties involved in performing this task. This clean room bench test gives a good idea of the objective [bleeding the air from the system] but should be coupled with actually performing the job on a vehicle.
The real world often provides challenges and other obstacles that a clean room demonstration simply can't prepare you for.

Bleeding the master cylinder takes a little longer than this video shows. I just did this yesterday and this video really helped. You should only have to bench bleed if its a new master cylinder. Otherwise you can just bleed the slave if your getting that spongy feeling in the pedal.

  • @Curtis1984
    @Curtis1984 Рік тому

I did this, exactly like the video says, and all seemed good, and all worked well for a year or so, then my master started leaking, getting air into the system at the seal where i was inserting the Phillips screwdriver when I bleed it, fluid was getting on my vinyl floor. I didnt pump it aggressively or anything (when I bleed it), I think if you do it, you have to make sure to use a really small screwdriver to miss the seals inside. So I later on bought a prefilled master to the slave. I'm still having issues. But like what some people say on forums, use Ford parts with the hydraulic clutch. Older guys who remember cable clutches say hydraulic clutches aren't as good, but I wouldn't know. I suppose it could be preference.
The Ranger clutch isn't like an easy brake job like it should or could be, many people have issues for some reason.

    • @Curtis1984
      @Curtis1984 Рік тому

      Also want to add:
Since the prefilled master install, I've had to pump and bleed on 3 occasions now.
The first two times tiny air bubbles came out, but this last time I didn't see any. You pump like 20x, hold, then release the bleeder quickly then close, repeat a few times. I did put in a non-self adjusting clutch, but I don't think that is the issue.
It works as it should after bleed, but for how long idk yet. The next time I do the clutch I will be putting in the OEM Ford or LUK next time. Though it's not bad pulling the trans in a 2wd, I don't want to "try" different parts, some parts are being sold as OEM, and they are not.

I bought a Duralast Pre-filled Clutch master and slave cylinder assembly from AutoZone.
And guess what was stamped on the clip removal tool?
    "Perfection Clutch HT-01"
    I thought that was interesting.
I had the Ford dealer replace the assembly because I had a soft ,low pedal and I was afraid it was going out.And it was the original factory unit still on my 2003 Ranger.
After replacement the pedal felt basically the same. But it did go into 1st and reverse a little easier.
Also.I got the old parts back and tried to work the master cylinder plunger back and forth as shown in the video, but it was like pushing against a brick wall.
I couldn't move that rod even a fraction of an inch into the master cylinder,no matter how hard I pushed on the rod.
But my pedal had felt low and soft.

I was bench bleeding the master cyl/lines + slave cyl (not yet installed on the truck). With the bleed screw closed on the slave cylinder and applying pressure on the master cyl all that pressure had nowhere to go except blow the top off the slave(like a jack in the box). Again this process was done OFF the truck! Does this now mean the brand new slave cylinder is toast or can it be re assembled by pressing that top ring piston back into the slave cylinder?

I followed your directions to the letter except when I tried to install the transmission the throw out bearing hit's the pressure plate before the input splines touch the clutch. Pulled the trans out and tried to push on the throw out bearing to see if it had some give but it was solid as a rock. How in the world can you install a trans if the bearing hits the pp first?

What's the story on the requirement to remove the rod portion? I've got the whole assembly out of the car - can't I just pump the attached rod instead of using a screwdriver directly on the piston as shown in the video? This is a '89, so no circlip on the rod assembly; it's one of those clips like you find at the end of the speedo cable that never wants to come apart.

So... if bearing is installed backwards (seal facing front of motor instead of facing transmission)..... will it cause any other problems besides extreme difficulty bolting Transmission back up to the motor? Picked up a cheap Ford Ranger. Did a new clutch system on it. Put everything in exactly the way the old stuff came out. Turns out, release bearing was in backwards... so I installed new one in backwards (not knowing) as well. Took FOREVER getting Trans to bolt back up to the motor!!! But once back together, everything seems fine. Should it be ok? It's not like the shaft moves in and out, or one end of bearing is wider or anything.

I was stuck in another town 6 months ago when my slave cylinder leaked and i had a local mechanic install a new Perfection Clutch in it. What is the average life expectancy on these slave cylinders? How often do they need to be replaced? I installed mine and I can hear it spinning when the clutch pedal is not pushed in. When impress the clutch it goes away but then comes back when I let go.

@perfectionclutch ok I will in the future, had to end up taking it to the shop, it was a cracked slave cylinder and was spewing clutch fluid all over clutch. clutch then got corroded, fortunately it was only 900 to fix.

I had the clutch on my Ranger replaced by my mechanic. He had a tough time bleeding the clutch master cylinder. Now I know why and I will be doing it myself the next time

How can you tell if you need the clutch bleed or you need the clutch replaced? My 2000 ford ranger clutch doesn't grab until almost all the way up.

Wish i would have found this three weeks ago 😢 now Firestone says i need a new transmission after they said thr slave cylinder was garbage but still no change. Im just going to go bleed it properly in their parking lot 🎉🎉

Do you have to bleed a prebleed system 1994 Mazda b2300 , sometimes hard to shift. Can see through inspection area on transmission she's moving, but also clutch doesn't have the umpth as would hard half way then alittle eaiser on way down etc. Never had a manual vehicle this old.
