Opened for the James Cotton Blues Band in 68 what a honor the was, and Muddy and Wolf are the Kings of Electric Chicago blues the likes of them will never be seen again. God Bless you. FS
Muddy was unique the way he showcased the harp in his music even though he wasn't a harp player - outside of Muddy himself, the harp was always the most important sound in his band.
this music is objectively amazing. the amazing thing about it lies not in how it is what it is, but in what it is in and of itself. it is amazing as a form, regardless of its origin, history or context. It even transcends the historical place of the viewer (we youtube viewers still feel the effect of this performance over half a century later) . .... just as we can say of any truly great work of man. the manipulation of form to this end, be it visual or musical, is the calling of all humanity.
SO. MUCH. WIN. I feel like I should have a glass of some damn fine southern whiskey and a cigarette in some bar somewhere, jukebox in the corner and music like this on it. This is one of those things God gave us to show us we still have emotions.
Love it, Love it. Muddy was it... .this whole show needs to be shown more often to remind people of the great talents we once had in the USA..and still do if you look around for the real deal blues... Thanks for the post... Muddy all the way..!
This performance is a perfect example of why I love him. He isn't dancing or gyrating anything. He is consumed by every word coming out of his mouth. The band is so good it''s mind blowing. American music at it's absolute finest.
Got to play right after James Cotton had torn the club a new hole with Muddy Waters !!! Because of my Mentor Big Walter Horton !!! When I finished we both came off the bandstand, Muddy with His arm over my shoulder saying "You Got That Sound Son" !!! "You Got A Voice With It" !!! TONE is what Muddy Waters was saying to me that night 1976 at The "Quiet Knight" Club in Chicago !!! I'll never forget it y'all !!!
The blues teach many lessons to many artist and had made melodys basics that still sound today. Artists like the rolling Stones, Beatles, Elvis, got rithyms and styles that came with the blues, and no body now wants to remember that.
wow. This is fantastic. Read up on his life...lots to write about..and sing. This song sums it up tho...you just can't lose what you never had. So it makes it useless to cry over nothing. I wasted too many tears on that...nothing. I am so glad I found this ...Muddy Waters...singin' the blues. This song.
McKinley Morganfield for President. Dude could phrase a lyric like no other, and with that velvet voice, man. None better. NONE! I hope, when my last day comes up on the calendar, I get to listen to some Muddy Waters/Willie Dixon collaborations before signing off.
Muddy was sooo cool! I grew up in a mostly black neighborhood back in the '60's and I remember my buddy Melvin's dad always wore his hair greased-up like Muddy did. I'd go over to his house and there was his dad, playing his LP's of Muddy, BB, John Lee, Big Momma, Lightning, Son House...so many, on the record player, nice and loud! That's where I learned to love the blues.
I watched an interview with Muddy. I can’t quote him but he said the blues harp was a key ingredient to the blues sound. That and when he did gigs everybody better show up in their Sunday best. He said when he played for people who worked hard all week and came to spend their money that he wanted to respect that and give them his best. I believe you can see that sentiment in quite a few of the iconic performers that followed in his path Lastly,God bless James Cotton. All you harp players out there, this is a perfect example of less is more. Somebody oughta play this for that dude in the Blues Babblers
😉 Danke ❤lichst ! Gute Nacht ! 🙋🌛🏨💤💤💤
Even though we hate todays mainstream music so much today, and we know it's really bad there is one big differense between this and todays mainstream music; This stuff will always be remembered and appreciated by true music lovers, because this is legendary, meanwhile todays mainstream music is just songs and artists that are popular for a few years and then will be long forgotten. And it's all about the kids, they will grow up and realise what is good and what is not.
Much thanks to ragbagken and youtube for this footage. My grandfather, Jimmie Lee Morris, who played the bass alongside Muddy in this video (and Got My Mojo Workin in this same setting in another video) recently passed away. This footage gives our family another cherised memory of "Pops" doing his thing back in the day.
Indeed the master of the blues, whe have had a lot and a lot of legendes i have a lot of respect for the blues ,certainly like this way. I am proud of them and for ever in my heart.
damn look at muddy waters he's such a smooth ass blues player so clean on his delivery and dresses clean like his music he's a pimp of the 50's blues for sure i love his hair it's so cleanly slicked back but got that wavy thing going on better then the greesers or elvis hair by far..
A few things: My first job was digging drain lines with a pick and shovel in the TN heat. I did that all during high school. So don't tell me about physical labor. 2nd, blues is a genre of music taught from one generation to the next. Its a personal music about your story. A 'blues' was another word for 'story' in the old days. Its those stories that people relate to. Just because one guy's blues is worse than another guy's doesn't mean one belongs in the genre and the other does not.
That is Mr. Spann sir. I'm listed as the Unit Production Manager on the video release of this 1996 remastering of the original 1966 recordings. I also had the pleasure of remastering the decayed original 2" Ampex open reel video tape. The Rhino put these recordings back into circulation. There are a total of approximately 27 hrs. of performance, of which originally only an hour went to air in '66, with an additional 1/2 hour minutes added for the single re-broadcast in '67.
I'm not a muddy authority, All I got is folk blues and the stuff he did when he was making albums with winter. I always respected him for being one of the godfathers and writing cool songs but never really looked at him as a player. That solo was fucking sharp. I'm gonna dig deeper. thanks for posting this.
Human nature: -Fight whats diffrent & agenst you -fight whats not fighting for the same thing you are fighting for. Music is about the only language that brakes that barrier.(for most people) Without anything that unifies us we will never work as one. End of story. True story. Let blues be one of the keys to "enlighten" us all about unity :-P Yet so pointless, but yet so true. Enjoy the Blues my fellow Hümans. may the wind take you to the place where ever it go'es. Peace!
Millón de gracias....esperé mucho tiempo !! Adoro tu avatar..."Edu manos de tijeras" ( Tim Burton, un grande)...hermosa película : " No al prejuicio"-SALUDOS!!....MARICHIWEU !!
You just have to listen to his real good stuff. If you're more of a Country Blues guy, listen to "Country Blues" if you can find it. The first Muddy Waters song ever recorded.
I like this version much more than the one released on Folk Singer (though it wasn't originally on it, got added later.) I love how Cotton at 3:00 starts smacking his harmonica. What a cool bunch of guys.
I worked the stage when Ray Charles came to my college to do a concert and he was blind but he could 'read' music. He rearainged an entire song in about 2 minutes and it was great. I don't know if Stevie can write and read music, but I know that Ray could. As for the learning, I went to music school and stuff, but I play better when I don't give a damn about what scale to use or which progression. Just play what you feel and if you do it right, it'll sound right.
The emperor of electric blues, damn this brother can sing & play. He will still be influential in 100 years time and beyond.
LOVE YOU MUDDY
I wish there was a complete cd/dvd of this session. the chicago blues ensemble sound is just incredible.
these dudes grew up in rough times but listening to them play makes me wish i could have been raised right with em. music was so real back then

Holy cow is this really Frank Stallone?!?!
Muddy was unique the way he showcased the harp in his music even though he wasn't a harp player - outside of Muddy himself, the harp was always the most important sound in his band.
Even otis spann said that the harp was the most important instrument in the band
Muddy started blowing harmonica and then switched to guitar in his late teens.

Thanks for the post... Muddy all the way..!
First time and every time I hear Muddy's bass voice sing the Blues,it just slays me!
This performance is a perfect example of why I love him. He isn't dancing or gyrating anything. He is consumed by every word coming out of his mouth. The band is so good it''s mind blowing. American music at it's absolute finest.
Look up his Got My Mojo Working from Newport 1960.
Thank God for muddy Waters
Got to play right after James Cotton had torn the club a new hole with Muddy Waters !!! Because of my Mentor Big Walter Horton !!! The blues teach many lessons to many artist and had made melodys basics that still sound today. Artists like the rolling Stones, Beatles, Elvis, got rithyms and styles that came with the blues, and no body now wants to remember that.
Fear Not ! It`s WELL known, my friend.

Love Muddy, even more, for his lifelong respect for blues harmonica accompaniment. One of his best, live !!
I've never watched Muddy blazed before... he's like the best blues act I've ever seen. I can't believe i'm seeing this
Muddy was sooo cool! I grew up in a mostly black neighborhood back in the '60's and I remember my buddy Melvin's dad always wore his hair greased-up like Muddy did. This is the type of song that makes you "Mmm, yeah that was good!"
DAMN!! HE WAS SMOOTH!!!
We'll never hear music like this again. MTV truly did kill good music!
Can't spend what you ain't got, can't lose some little girl you ain't never had.................Oh how I miss my Muddy!
Oh why can't I vote 200000000000 thumbs up for that?????
He's so nonchalant and yet his playing is so perfect.
I watched an interview with Muddy. I can’t quote him but he said the blues harp was a key ingredient to the blues sound. That and when he did gigs everybody better show up in their Sunday best. Rest In Peace to bass player Jimmie Lee Morris. My grandfather and friend forever
we were lucky to have Muddy and his band during our lifetime.....and also the internet to preserve the music.
Im a white female from the south and I love the Blues and have great respect for it.

I must admit..im a new fan since "Cadillac Records". Amazing stuff!!
Love this song by Muddy Waters, but it should lose, not loose. Great big difference.
I'm not a muddy authority, All I got is folk blues and the stuff he did when he was making albums with winter. thats why they call it soul music
Blues is good even though I'm a metalhead because blues inspired rock and metal music.
Joel Vallence Metalhead too but I love the blues , especially on a Sunday morning
There is no heavy metal without the Blues. I'm not arguing I'm reiterating.
