Saved almost $1,000 dollars with DMC, sad to see them go. Since Mill Creek wasn't mentioned it looks like they're still distributing Disney's other studios, Touchstone, Searchlight Pictures, etc... and Sony is doing mainline Disney releases.
Yeah, it's a bummer they don't accept new members to take advantage of this. Anyway, I ordered some of the Movie Club titles from Amazon and Ebay, because I agree with your concern that Sony may not release those Movie Club titles, so I'm just going to get the Movie Club ones anyway possible, without being a member.
Disney have 20+ fox titles done 4k for physical release. Die hard 2 being one listed. Interesting that sony wants to take over Disney physical media department.
It’s definitely one of the more interesting partnerships I’ve seen. I’m curious to see how it’s all handled. The article mentions Sony will market, sell, and distribute physical media for Disney so not sure if they get choice on titles to release or it’s all based on what Disney decides for Sony to release. It’ll be interesting to watch.
Enjoyed hearing your thoughts Tim. Was surprised when I saw the news the other day. I do plan on making another or order or two to get more of the Disney Movie Club Exclusives I haven't picked up.
Purchased 5 of those yellow case titles $10 each and wasn't charged shipping. I was offered to rejoin about two years ago, and I got free shipping and only had to buy 3 titles at regular price, but I got my first commitment at half price.
Sounds like good news to me ? I mean unless I'm completely misunderstanding things, although it doesn't guarantee anything, right now, popular movies that Disney own like "Splash" (for example) have no chance of getting a Blu-ray...but if Sony now have the rights then I would think there is a good chance that the more well known and popular movies would be very likely to get a Blu-ray or even a 4K at some point in the not too distant future ?
As a whole yeah it’s good news since it’s a good studio handling things. The article mentions Sony will market, sell, and distribute for Disney so not exactly sure if they have pick from the catalogue or they will do all that for the titles Disney selects. The variety article is vague enough that I’m kinda middle of the road right now. Could turn out amazing…or not. I guess it’s a time will tell thing.
That’s the thing…we don’t know. They’re pretty vague in their press release. I would love if this opens things up for Fox titles, but as of now it’s just a giant maybe.
DMC is only cheap if you buy multiple titles. Since you have to pay full price for first title (which is usually WAY overpriced). I recently pre-ordered the Cameron movies, which is my first order in 3-4 yrs. Also wish they would provide free shipping, something they rarely do. Over the past few years, it seems like they rarely added new stuff. They were missing out on the Fox catalog. So no big loss for us with them closing.
I never bought one at a time from them, but yeah you’re right if you did that it’s expensive. Once you stacked with a few titles though the net price per title even with shipping was almost always less than you’d spend on even Amazon or Walmart. I basically always declined the monthly selection because I would rather bundle a title with others to save even more.
@@timtalkstalkiesThat's why I pre-ordered Abyss, Aliens and True Lies from them. Even with one being full price, you can get all 3 for less than Amazon.
What they are not saying (at least I haven't read), how much say does Sony have in what they release. Can they do anything they want, or will they have to get ok from Disney? There are so many titles fans want from Fox, Touchstone and Hollywood Pictures. So will be interesting to see how things unfold. At the top of my wishlist is Titan A.E., my favorite animated movie. It never got a bluray release. Still have my DVD, which surprisingly looks good considering how old it is. Can't imagine how it would look on 4K with HDR!
Yeah just like you and others I would love if this can lead to Fox and other titles Disney has basically abandoned on physical. The wording is so vague though that it’s more of a wait and see. I have my doubts Sony would get pick. It’s probably a Disney decides the titles type of situation, but without knowing more it’s kinda a guess. Titan A.E would pop in 4k with HDR.
Hard to know what will happen in the future but I wouldn't be shocked or surprised if Sony gave all streaming rights to Disney considering that sony doesnt have a streaming service.
I'm hoping Sony start releasing all the Touchstone back catalogue
Fingers crossed
Same. And 20th Century Fox titles.

So Sony will deal with licensing to boutique labels like Arrow, and Shout now? Weird. Wonder if Ingram shutting down had something to do with it?
There are alot of older Disney movies that haven’t even got a bluray release… so that’s what I hope we’re going to get. Or even 4k 😬
And don't forget dvd, cause there are some titles that haven't got a dvd release, not even ones with their correct aspect ratios.
I’m gonna miss all of the exclusives and big savings. I currently have the three upcoming James Cameron 4ks in my cart for $11.98 each.

@timtalkstalkies well 20+ titles let see if con air, The rock are on that list. From what Disney done so far the film cast away was listed.

I don’t order anything from Disney I do find Disney at stores
I do enjoy your content movies and videos you do have incredible taste in music books every thing
Great video Tim!
Better stock up now, because a lot of $10 exclusives are out of stock.

Thanks Tim
This is where I kick myself in the arse for not being a Disney Club member.

I have own Sony Disney physical DVDs since I moved Willingboro to mount Holly to Burlington in south Jersey then Now Houston Cypress Texas
This is good news a lot of stuff has been neglected for a long time.
Will it include Disney's Fox titles they have a stranglehold over? Most likely not I'd imagine.

When will Sony take over? What date, please?
The move was immediate, but no word on when we’ll see the first releases actually distributed by Sony hit the market.
@@timtalkstalkies Thanks.

I do have boutique labels mill Greek mgm eone itn paramount fast play Pixar
Disney plus should go away y people have more health problems now days on people's thinking now days
Timmy
There is no way that Sony is going to be doing transfers for these releases. I would imagine that Disney will still be doing the transfers in-house.
hmm sony aka columbia pictures takin over disny no way dude sounds bullshit
They aren’t taking over Disney. They’re taking over manufacturing and distribution for Disney physical media. Disney is still Disney.
