So many beautiful places in Indonesia to see, i personally love Sumatra, Java is a great place too, other island as well, can't wait to see more. Most tourists just follow popularity of bali and missing rest of Indonesia, but that might be good, at least they won't ruin other places with influencers, crowd, bad traffic etc. So yeah, keep them in Bali and let rest of people explore wonderful Indonesia.
Sometimes it’s hard for us Indonesians to understand why so many tourists come to Bali but barely explore the rest of Indonesia. But we have to take a step back and understand how travel works. Most people only visit places they’ve heard about or that are easy to find information on-and for Indonesia, that’s almost always Bali. Here’s the thing: many tourists don’t even realize Bali is part of Indonesia. Even when they’ve got an Indonesian stamp in their passports, are surrounded by Indonesian flags 🇮🇩, and see the word “Indonesia” everywhere, Bali somehow still exists as its own bubble in their minds. And we have to admit, there’s another factor at play: religion. Bali stands out because of its unique Hindu culture. While we Indonesians know that Muslims are just like everyone else, many people outside the country still have negative stereotypes about Islam. They assume that Islamic/Muslim-majority countries are strict or unwelcoming, and they don’t know that Indonesia is NOT Islamic and is actually a diverse country, both culturally and religiously. Many don’t even realize there are places in Indonesia beyond Bali where Islam isn’t the dominant religion. The result? They have this very wrong idea that “Indonesia is a Muslim country, with Bali being the only exception.” But at the end of the day we also have to admit that this is also a failure of our government in promoting the rest of Indonesia. Muslim-majority/Islamic countries like Morocco, the Maldives, and even our neighbor Malaysia have done a great job attracting tourists, despite those same stereotypes. If they can do it, why can’t we? Indonesia has so much more to offer than just Bali, but it’s up to us to showcase it to the world.
Islam does impose restrictions and is unwelcoming to tourists. I was in jakarta and my hotel was Fave Hotel near Sarinah. Every morning the sound of the mosque woke me up, when I went to eat Soto ayam in the mall covered women and men with beards looked at me very unfriendly. I was refused my four taxidrivers, even the one parked in front of my hotel did not want to take me.
@ LOL, sure you did. While I’ll admit the call to prayer in Indonesia can be a bit overbearing at times, it takes a certain kind of narcissistic trainwreck to believe anyone gives a single thought about what you’re eating in a shopping mall. Nobody’s staring at you, champ; they’re too busy living their lives to bother with whatever delusions you’re having over lunch. 🙄 And four taxis refused you? In this economy where drivers would practically sell their souls for a fare? Well, you must have the personality of a wet mop to pull off that level of rejection, that every single one of them said, “Nope, not worth it.” 🤣 And who’s to say those drivers were Muslim? For all we know, you were so insufferable that you managed to unite people of four different religions in collectively deciding to leave you on the curb. Truly impressive, really. Bravo! 👏

In my opinion, as an Indonesian (half Balinese and half West Javan), there are at least 3 main reasons why Indonesian tourism is only developed and thriving in Bali, and why foreign tourists are reluctant to visit other places (except Lombok and Gili, as they are quite famous now 😅): 1. First of all the Indonesian government and people don't really make an effort to promote tourism outside of Bali. Bali is already famous, but their focus is still on Bali to advance its tourism 2. Other regions in Indonesia with tourist potential are not developed at all. There's a complete lack of access and facilities for tourists to feel comfortable and stay for a visit. As a result, it's not attractive to tourists at all because there are no attractions for them (e.g., road and transportation access, bars, party places, luxury villas, 5-star hotels, beach clubs, or anything else that supports a tourist lifestyle) 3. And the third is the strong, authentic, and unique local culture that can attract tourists for cultural tourism. Because sometimes natural beauty alone is not enough, there needs to be local cultural attractions. Balinese culture is still very strong and preserved compared to other regions or islands in Indonesia that have abandoned their original culture due to modernization. And perhaps religion is also a factor, as the majority is Muslim, so locals are more closed to open Western culture, although this is difficult to justify because eastern Indonesia is predominantly Christian but there are no foreign tourists who want to go there.
I think Bali's popularity is a disservice to the rest of Indonesia, it's a huge country with many diverse islands filled with equally diverse flora and fauna! It seems to have a target market though, not exactly the kind of place i could enjoy for too long

Tourists don’t come to another’s part of Indonesia even more beautiful than Bali because of humans factors : any kinds of demo ( political issues, religion issues, ethnicity issues and safety) , since media exposed what going on in the country. I love Bali so much, greeting from Scandinavian
I travel to Bali once a year. Other times I'm in Sydney or Thailand. I like the chilled out vibe even in Kuta. The food is great and the beer is cheap. What I don't like is being hassled to buy things from stall holders when I first arrive. After a few days walking around, they recognise me and leave me alone.
Traffic everywhere making it awkward to get around and being overly touristy appear to be the main issues for most. Certainly from what I have seen via videos on UA-cam Ubud is so much more relaxed, the Gilis OK and Lombok maybe an excellent get-a-way too. My brother used to love going there years back to surf and also invested in a business with a mate who ran a resort there, but that has to have been 20 odd years back. Have you been to Lombok yet Chai? 🤩
Thanks mate! And yes it can be quite awkward indeed. Probably my least favorite thing about Bali. But still its an amazing island to explore 😍 have you missed our Lombok Special?! 😱 haha here it is: ua-cam.com/video/87ISIxWR8VI/v-deo.htmlsi=5Rkmvs1CYpnXHHhc

Its simple..Bali is Hindu, much more tolerant and open than the rest of indonesia where the mosque will greet u good morning at 4.30 AM. Islam is too much rules, regulations thats why.
Sadly lack of promoting tourism elsewhere and the lack of infrastructure does that :( But Java is super nice and simple enough to get around by Train to some of the major city's, Yogyakarta is the must see due to Borobudur and all the Hindu Temples as well.

Nice one! If you’re looking for the hype Seminyak and Ubud are the places to be. I personally wouldn’t like to stay in Seminyak for too long but if you’re single and you wanna party, that’s a good place to do it :) also Ubud is a must, even it is busy there. Lombok (Kuta Mandalika terutama) , Labuan Bajo, Toraja, Manado (Likupang Island), Belitong Island harusnya jg bs.... Pemerintah Indonesia wajib kerja keras untuk bener bener bisa menciptakan pariwisata baru gak hanya mengandalkan Bali
bollox, there are also places with christian majority around Indonesia, and traveling around places populated by muslims is still ok, is all about fame and bali being popular, so people follow it
Its not about religion, its just people of Bali can adapt with tourist Having a ritual/ceremony while around you a white chick wearing bikini, probably only in Bali
@@TheKokot52 Bali is famous and popular because of its wonderful people. And it is 87% Hindu. The country is 87% Muslim. Hinduism is the third-largest religion in Indonesia, based on civil registration data in 2023 from Ministry of Home Affairs, is practised by about 1.68% of the total population, and almost 87% of the population in Bali.
Bali is openminded. Western people like to drink alcohol , dress as they like , eat pork etc. Thats oke in Bali but not in many other parts of the country due to religious reasons. I think its a pity because there are more beautiful places in Indonesia.

Coz it's a big archipelagic country, also it's very diverse, every region have their own uniqueness and why Bali coz it's just popular to begin with. Also indonesia size kinda confusing for tourist, Form western part of indonesia to eastern part of indonesia take 8 to 9 h flights, and it's not just there u need to take a boat or riding a car for hour and hour to ur destinations. We are not like Thai or viet that Ocean doesn' even spread their country into thousands of islands. We know some part of Thai or viet also has an islands but not like us, ykwim right
As Indonesian, I like to go to places which have culture or certain characteristic. So Bali and Yogyakarta is definitely my choice. And maybe Bandung, but as the capital of West Java, I thought that Bandung will be full of Sundanese culture, but now it is not. It is dominantly Islam and Arabish now. That the minus part.
I've travelled all through Indonesia. A couple of reasons people don't go past bali 1. Alcohol y3s you can get it in other parts of Indonesia but it is definitely not readily available, choice limited and prices high. 2. Religion. The conservative nature of the Muslim population is not generally compatible with western culture. 3. Infrastructure. Bali is a small island and easy to get around apart from the traffic. Other provinces generally have poor transport options and long distances to travel which cuts in to holiday time.
Maybe because media a lot heat campaign about "islam terrorist", we r not from "uk england" "base low" abaut "secular state religious state", this country neither of them, we cannot be separated between religions, like the case in India, between Pakistani Islam and Indian Hindu, why can this happen because they follow what the English say, even now it still happens, Indonesia makes its own laws, with the concept of the state that we consider to be the best, for all religions no matter what, back to the beginning, why are people afraid of anything other than Bali, because they think of the "secular n religion", even though we are not secular, not religious, everything is good like in Bali, whatever their religion, it is impossible for there to be islands close together, one is a "terrorist island", the other is a "paradise island", Bali is Hindu, Lombok is Javanese Islam (majority) !???

Because hardly anywhere else is developed for tourism. Bali has almost anything you can wish for holidaywise, is well developed and inhabited by people friendly to tourism. Foreign languagea are hardly really spoken by anybody in indonesia beyond “Hi Mister” - whereas Balinese are better. Indonesia has vast potential for tourism. Many undiscovered gems yet to be developed
Bali is beautiful when you stay in nice luxury hotel. The rest only you can find the same western like any other even cheap tourist with freedom , wild and parties. East Indonesia has more beautiful places but more expensive tourism to enjoy with local wisdom and of course Java has still more beautiful places for adventure even the histories even living as local wisdom. Different with Balinese where they have own live community, not blend with tourist even western who live there especially if western feel superior over there. But in Java , the western more educated as expatriat and bussines with more normal behaviour even live as local style.
Because..in bali not much rule comparing another island in idonesia...specialy java..you know java is muslim cultures..event beer...it's very hard to find it..must be in certain places😮 and many tings..you can't do in java for tourist.

Thanks so much brother! Haha ey, don’t get this video wrong 😜 it’s still an incredible place and I hope you’re (even you don’t feel like it) once come over and experience Bali yourself so you can be the judge to say if it’s suitable for you 😘 thanks again! ❤️❤️
@@Chai_Travel your welcome bro, yes I will
Chai, you should mention Jogja, Lombok, Labuan Bajo etc during your interview so that they'll recognisize those places. Explain them what Jogja offers, what Lombok offers etc 🙏
I love Bandung 😍
I went to Bali 30 years ago, but I also went to the islands of Java and Sumatra.
Tourists don’t come to another’s part of Indonesia even more beautiful than Bali because of humans factors : any kinds of demo ( political issues, religion issues, ethnicity issues and safety) , since media exposed what going on in the country. I love Bali so much, greeting from Scandinavian
Thanks mate! Nice to know you’re watching 🙏
Well done street interviews.
Thank you
I travel to Bali once a year. Other times I'm in Sydney or Thailand. I like the chilled out vibe even in Kuta. The food is great and the beer is cheap. What I don't like is being hassled to buy things from stall holders when I first arrive. After a few days walking around, they recognise me and leave me alone.
Lovely mate. Sounds like you have a pretty good time 🤩 Thanks for watching and saying hi 👋
Chai must go to Batam and Bintan to see those wonderful island who located next from Singapore.
@@Chai_Travel too right I saw that one, even commented so there's always the DNA there 😂🤣😂 Mate, I just watched it all again and that is magic. BTW just noticed the 80K. Amazing journey this channel has been on and so pleased to see it 'crackin on' . Cheers Chai 🍻
Terima kasih
Its simple..Bali is Hindu, much more tolerant and open than the rest of indonesia where the mosque will greet u good morning at 4.30 AM. Islam is too much rules, regulations thats why.
Thanks for sharing your few on this topic 🙏
Sadly lack of promoting tourism elsewhere and the lack of infrastructure does that :( But Java is super nice and simple enough to get around by Train to some of the major city's, Yogyakarta is the must see due to Borobudur and all the Hindu Temples as well.
That’s right! Java is so much developed 😍 I’d love to explore Sumatra as well 🙏 thanks for watching again
@@Chai_Travel Always a pleasure to watch, I love Indonesia and Thailand especially so your content always hits the sweet spot, so much to explore, keep up the good work!
Been to Jakarta, Bandung, Surabaya and in Jan, i am heading to bali Solo. I just wanna see what the hype is all about. I am divided as where to stay, Seminyak?
Nice one! If you’re looking for the hype Seminyak and Ubud are the places to be. I personally wouldn’t like to stay in Seminyak for too long but if you’re single and you wanna party, that’s a good place to do it :) also Ubud is a must, even it is busy there. Amed is a nice place with amazing snorkeling spots and good vibes (not so busy). Have the best time and I hope some of the videos are helpful 😊
Always said noway would I go to Bali ya gotta be crazy first time last year in march loved it went back February this year and heading back mid February 2025 can't wait 😊
Glad you had a great time and are coming back! Bali is a great place to revisit 🤩 have the best time and hope to stay in touch 🏆
Yeah Bali is underrated
it's actually highly overrated
Haha nice statement. I think it’s a perfect place to explore and have holiday
Lombok (Kuta Mandalika terutama) , Labuan Bajo, Toraja, Manado (Likupang Island), Belitong Island harusnya jg bs.... Pemerintah Indonesia wajib kerja keras untuk bener bener bisa menciptakan pariwisata baru gak hanya mengandalkan Bali
Terima kasih telah berbagi pemikiran Anda 🙏
Thats why many foreigners knows Bali but they didn’t know where Indonesia , its ridiculous…!🤑
😅
Because they're just blatantly Ignorance
Religious differences between Bali and the rest of the country.
True that :) thanks for watching again
bollox, there are also places with christian majority around Indonesia, and traveling around places populated by muslims is still ok, is all about fame and bali being popular, so people follow it
Its not about religion, its just people of Bali can adapt with tourist
Having a ritual/ceremony while around you a white chick wearing bikini, probably only in Bali
Sharron is just saying that there is a difference between Bali and the rest of the country which is fairly true
What's Jakarta like, mate?
Fantastic. Busy. Some parts are not nice. Some are great. I’d watch a few videos of Jakarta before you decide to go
Bali is openminded. Western people like to drink alcohol , dress as they like , eat pork etc. Thats oke in Bali but not in many other parts of the country due to religious reasons. I think its a pity because there are more beautiful places in Indonesia.
Thanks for sharing your thoughts 🙂
Exactly this ☝️ a lot of Muslims like to control and push their ways onto others, even ones who are guests in other countries.
We know some part of Thai or viet also has an islands but not like us, ykwim right
As Indonesian,
I like to go to places which have culture or certain characteristic.
So Bali and Yogyakarta is definitely my choice.
And maybe Bandung, but as
the capital of West Java, I thought that Bandung will be full of Sundanese culture, but now it is not. It is dominantly Islam and Arabish now.
That the minus part.
Thanks for sharing your thoughts :)
Thanks for sharing your thoughts, very insightful! 🙏
Java island infrastructure is better than Bali..... Java Island has trains, very long toll roads, wide roads, hundreds of skyscrapers in Jakarta.
Religion plays a huge part on this
maybe they want to watch celticroom Bali😊
☘️
Maybe because media a lot heat campaign about "islam terrorist", we r not from "uk england" "base low" abaut "secular state religious state",
this country neither of them,
we cannot be separated between religions, like the case in India, between Pakistani Islam and Indian Hindu,
why can this happen because they follow what the English say, even now it still happens,
Indonesia makes its own laws, with the concept of the state that we consider to be the best, for all religions no matter what,
back to the beginning, why are people afraid of anything other than Bali, because they think of the "secular n religion", even though we are not secular, not religious, everything is good like in Bali, whatever their religion,
it is impossible for there to be islands close together, one is a "terrorist island", the other is a "paradise island", Bali is Hindu, Lombok is Javanese Islam (majority) !???
🙏 I’m not too sure about that
@@Chai_Travel, Please dive further to find out, by discussing with "wan win nur" Chanel (he really clever) He is a tour guide in Bali, as well as a UA-camr who is active on his channel to talk about the basics of this country,
If tourist people choose tto visiting another island in indonsia (banda ternate molucaas islnd-sulawesi-flores islnd) they must be supprise-shock that many island in indonsia more beautiful than bali island
Nice one :) thanks!
They planning to go to other islands but only on Gilis😂 pretty much the same with Bali lol
I guess FOMO is all around the world, people choose things based on the crowds
Bali became a tourist trap for the tourist herd on vacation quite a long time ago , if ever there's a reason to avoid somewhere it's that
🙂
Chai always finds the most beautiful women 🤣💥👊🏼
Haha do I now? 😋
Because they want freedom, eat pork drink liquor, and see the unique local culture and beach ⛱️
Thanks for sharing your thoughts and observations 🙏 have a good day
Because..in bali not much rule comparing another island in idonesia...specialy java..you know java is muslim cultures..event beer...it's very hard to find it..must be in certain places😮 and many tings..you can't do in java for tourist.
I guess there’s some sort of truth in that 🙏
I think there would be , as you have already shown , more authentic & beautiful areas of Bali .
Bali has always been a popular place for Aussies , as it’s close & generally flight prices are good . Everyone goes to Bali because it’s a tourist hot spot for sure - 🫣😳🤩✔️👍👌🙏🎅
Haha yes, there are a lot of Aussies here 🤣 but there are plenty of places within Bali that are still very beautiful and without an overload of Aussies (I personally don’t mind a good crowd of people from down under :p) especially in Ubud I’ve met a lot of people from all over the world 🥰
@ ❤️👌👍
I like temple hindu
They’re so beautiful 😍
NO WONDER. LOTS OF FOREIGNERS WHO HAS BEEN LIVING IN INDONESIA FOR MANY YEAS BUT STILL DONT SPEAK INDONESIA IN BALI. CAUSE THEY ARE LAZY TO LEARN INDONESIA. HAHAHA... BUT I DO RESPECT WITH FOREIGNERS WHO REALLY EFFORT TO LEARN OUR LANGUAGE
That’s pretty loud 😅
Island hop!! Don’t just go to Bali. Get on a fast boat and explore
Because most tourist from American and European countriest considered Bali as tourist magnet for being romanticized it as a fancy cocktail bar to be hang out near the beach , Sure , getting rid off a stereotype
I think the rest of Indonesia beside Bali are deemed way too conservative for westerner taste
Thanks for watching and sharing your thoughts 🙏
45% is such a high Number compared to how many tourist destinations Indonesia can have 😱
Never been there. Probably never will. Bali just does not appeal to me.
It’s not everyone’s cup of tea:) I hope it goes well in the south of Thailand 🙏🤗
@Chai_Travel We had a lot of water problems here. Deep floods in Yala and Narathiwat. Now it's a bit better but there's more to come.
When will you be back in Chiang Mai? Eagerly awaiting more interviews there.
Good to know it's a bit better now. Soon! Probably before the end of the year :D
seems like the yoga and wellness people are out of touch with reality, just my opinion.
Interesting you got that from this video :)
I love
Most of Asia but I absolutely hated Bali
Hate is a powerful word ☺️ but I see what you’re saying 🙏
Unfortunately it comes down to the religion they practice in most of the country
Perhaps, and the freedom that comes with it 🙏
🙏
Bali banyak turis tapi tidak membuat orang bali kaya. ,, hotel, villa semua di miliki orang luar bali. ,,, org bali cma jadi pelayannya bule asing ... 😮
Saya perhatikan banyak bisnis dimiliki oleh orang Jawa 🙏
@@Chai_Travel.. Bukan hanya orang Jawa tapi orang seluruh Indonesia.. Contohnya hotman paris dia memiliki atlas beach clubb...
As an aussie, i find every other country in SEA better and more authentic compared to bail, i don't hate Bali, we just got back a couple of months ago for a quick holiday with family, the traffic is fked and i dont see how they can fix it, the foods ok, hotels, even medium/high range usually have problems like bad aircon or dilapidated buildings , beer is crap as Bintang has a partnership with the government to have a monopoly on the market, swimming/oceans are ok at best, mostly aussies they are not really adventurous or have kids travel there as its simple, quick to travel to, cheap and caters to their needs
Agree
It’s sort of like traveling within Australia - a lot of Aussies
Bali is not a country, is a small part of Indonesia, and Indonesia has so many wonderful places to visit, educate yourself, australians are not the smartest, yes i know 😁
