The weather where you are looks as foul as it's been here last week!! No rain all summer, then a months worth in 2 days!! And we still have a hosepipe ban!! The SCX6 is a beast!! Great truck. And having reliable batteries is a great thing. And being out with your friends adds something to crawling. 👍🏻
Thanks for the great test. I was glad to see the lipos could function in wet conditions safely. Ovonic makes such a wide variety of batteries it's a difficult choice. I used link you provide for the U.S. and EU led to the Ovonic site, but I couldn't find the 5800 100c. I could find the 5800 50C. On Amazon in the U.S. I found two 5200 100c for $35 and then are lots of other choices. I think you did a real service for the average r/c enthusiast. Most are looking for a reasonable price and good performance.
Thanks Michael. I've been asking Ovonic for these batteries for their EU and USA store but they said they're not stocking it there. I can't fathom why as these seem like exactly the pack you'd want for a bigger 2s option! If enough people are asking for it here I'll go back to them with that and hopefully they consider offering it on the ampow side. Cheers
Cool to be out on the trail with you and kudos for filming in challenging weather. Great to see the landscape and wildlife. Pair of LC's also top trumps. Like of course and thank you.
I've got a couple of their 4200 mAh shorty packs and they seem to be pretty decent batteries. I think my Spectrum batteries run a bit longer, but I don't have packs with the exact same specs, so the math only does so much without an apples to apples comparison. Regardless, they certainly last at least almost as long and are far less expensive. I don't get all the other awesome benefits of the Smart battery system, but the Ovonics have been pretty good for me regardless. Thanks for the video.
The extra little features from some battery interfaces can be nice. Spektrum and Traxxas are doing this. Still, bottom line is you want decent cells that perform, above convenient little extra features. That's always been my approach - value for money wins every time, in my subjective judgement anyway!
Got to love a mud run 😎👍 (And Inox is your best, best, bestest friend, before and after a mud run) Currently I'm trying Inox with Lanolin. WD40? Don't even bother trying.) Loved your office today😎👌
@@RCTNT That's awesome! Not long ago I bought an Ovonic 5500mAh 3s for my Slash 4x4 and have been pretty happy. Granted I've only used it less than a dozen times. Seems to last the same as my 5000mAh Gens Ace
I'm still using mine, for what it's worth. Some have hit the comments here saying they've had inconsistent experiences with the packs, but I am still happy with mine. They get regular use and though one is doing better than the other on capacity, they're both still good enough to be used in tandem. Mine have 50+ cycles on them so far. Enjoy!
You have some funny looking deer in your part of the world 🙃. Lol sorry that's probably an old joke that isn't funny. You're getting some serious rain there, hopefully you and family haven't been impacted by flooding. When the water gets that brown from sediment, you know it's really moving! I've considered these batteries and have been buying Zeee's lately and Zeee Premium since they advertise a 2C charge rate. I think when we get some that consistently work, we keep going back to that brand with LiPo's. I'll give Ovonic a try next time!
For whatever its worth I've been charging my 50C+ batteries at 2C to 4C rate for the last decade. If less than about 50C I don't exceed 1.5C charge rate. This is not an endorsement nor recommendation to do so - manufacturers recommend 1C charge rate. But cell quality being evaluated by discharge potential is a generally reliable indicator, I've found. Heat is an enemy but if you're watching cell float and consistency you can get an idea of where you stand. At comps I'll smack power back into my 90C 450mAh packs at 4-5C every time. Been doing this for years. In my observation, the key is to minimise the time spent away from storage charge. I try to get them been onto storage as soon after running as possible. Similarly, I charge my batteries as close to when I'm ready to use them as possible. Every 6 months I put all my packs onto storage charge. Most don't need it but the tiny packs and cheaper (low C) packs tend to need the boost. Doing this, I've got packs here that are 10+ years old and still good. Ymmv but that's been my experience anyway! Again, not an endorsement of such treatment, just sharing my experience for whatever that's worth to you. Cheers
I'm quite suspicious with regards to batteries. I always have been told (several different sources) that there are actually extremely few battery producers in the world, and that what we get is different name re-brands. And if you look at the packaging and overall layout of some of them, you can spot them relatively easy. Then again, tests are a tough cookie to swallow as well, as only after several uses and even months or years of use, before they start giving up, puffing and/or failing in either way, that you really know how good they are. Still, these OVONIC have been around for a while and I've seen pretty decent performance all round besides than your video, so definitely a contender for future purchases!
All of that may be true, but even if so, performance varies by cell quality. These are heavy and charged similarly and consistently. So far they're every bit as good as the best I've got. That's also why I showed how many I have here, so you know I've got some experience on the subject with which to apply a critical eye. For whatever that's worth, I like these cells!
Oh for sure - and question away, I'm far from infallible. What I am doing is resting on broad and deep experience with batteries, but such a heuristic approach has its limitations. The real test is that of repeated, long term use. I expect these will be very good, but I can't know until I use them thus. Cheers
God damn it! I pressed like! Jesus, I suck so much. I tried to be modern, and follow trends. Not clicking like button is so fashionable these days and I bloody clicked it! Again! I do it every time! What the hell is wrong with me 😅😜😁
So it seems to be hit and miss with Ovonic. I just got 5 lipo's from them, and they're absolutely worthless. Super high resistance, seems to be year-old stock at the moment.
Oof, thanks for the report. Sorry you had a bad set. My pair have been great so far, one better than the other but both have seen heavy use since I've had em. I'm a fan - sorry you had a bad run with this set. Did they help you out with replacements or refund for the bad cells?

Nice one Rob and yes to all the above :)

Glad you enjoyed it and thanks for taking a moment to let me know :) Cheers!
Great video. What a beautiful area. Thanks for sharing. Batteries seem awesome too.
Thanks, I wasn't sure what to expect, haven't had this brand before. But now I know them I'll be buying them next time! Cheers
bought a few of these off amazon n been very happy with them.. 3s and 2s..
Awesome, they're great value!
That Kraton run in the rain looked like a blast.
It's always a blast driving this thing. Beautifully engineered machine, the 6s Kraton

Lol fair enough. I've been using wd40, lanolin and inox for years, but not on rc cars. I like a good lithium gease myself :) Thanks Jeff!
@@RCTNT You've seen where I run my cars rofl...
Love the ovonics, can't really beat the value for money and a great product.
Where was the scx6 footage taken?
Hey Tim, this is in the Plenty Gorge. BRX01 at Warrandyte and Kraton at Eltham BMX track
Great video 👍 Nice trail 🤩
Thanks, I had fun making this one!
I definitely recognise that skate park... near Diamond Creek i think...?
BMX track is in Eltham.
Wait a minute, I recognize that bashing spot. Vas from Aussie RC Playground once did a video there!
Good eye. He's about 20 minutes away from me. I used to bash at his regular test ground for a while, about a decade ago :)

Nice. I'm impressed so far, too.
I just ordered 2 of these for my brx01 from atees and got them for $58 ea. If they are as good as you say I’ll be a very happy Chappy.
