Hi- I have an old horse tiller that is not quite this old, I still use it. I am sorry Troy Bilt went under. My brother and I drove up to the factory to pick it up, as I live in central NY and it is not that far from Troy. Those old ones are great machines, much better built than the newer ones. They used to put out the Troy Bilt Owners News that always had hints for better gardening. Nice to see you get this one going!
I have the same 7 HP model, purchased from the late 70's without the front cage protection. Shipment from Troy Bilt was kinda expensive from New York to California. Anyways was a huge mistake loaning to neighbors. They ran the motor into the ground, broke the pull rope, busted the carb into a fence post then threw it in the trash. I had the lifetime warranty for a complete rebuild for 1/3 of the going price. Warranty was denied since Troy Bilt went into bankruptcy purchased by MTD Consumer Group Inc. Troy Bilt good company always had support, MTD not so much. In any case it sat in the yard for 25 years was going to the dump site until I saw your video. Itching to have it running again, have the very detailed owners/parts manual somewhere. No idea if I can get parts but couldn't get it from MTD.
Wow, I certainly wouldn’t lend anything to that neighbor again. I hope you get it running, it’s a great machine and they are not to complex. If it helps, I did post a link to the owners manual in the descriptions. Good luck!
@@alittleofalot5171 Thanks for the manual upload! I hear others swap the commercial 7 HP motor with the cheap Harbor Freight 6 HP motor without a problem. Going to tear into the transmission, its full of water and gray sludge.
@@kimchee94112 I got lucky and mine was under the barn so no water damage. I would put a little oil down the spark plug hole, let it sit for a while and see if you can manually turn the engine over. Your rings and cylinder might be okay. Depends on how long water has been inside it I suppose.
I love buying them old things and making them work again making pretty good money on that catching them cheap and fixing them it's a nice side to Gig if a guy can do it
It’s a great feeling to have something fire up after sitting for years. We plan on using this rototiller yearly to get our gardens ready otherwise it certainly could be sold for profit.
Totally enjoyed your well made video and tear down. Congrats! Have you been tempted to restore the paint job? Although I love the original look myself.
@thetubeschannel thanks! I appreciate it! Painting it has popped into my head but I probably won’t ever get around to actually doing it. I keep it indoors so hopefully the rust continues to be at bay.
They still make troybilt tiller horses mtd owns them now I think they bought them back in 2001 still made in Ohio I look on line around 3200 dollars now I love these tillers I done tons of these caddillac of tillers.❤
I do a lot of these I usually just put a new predator engine ohv engine on them direct bolt up makes a nice tiller the engines run around 100 to 140 harbor freight.
I think that I am also going to upload vehicle fixing videos to my channel as they are really fun to watch and helpful. I do a lot of fixing on my 88 f 250 and my craftsman ys4500 so that might be interesting
WOW!!!!!!! you did such a great job with this. Whoever gets the reap the benefits of a working machine like this is luuuuuuuuuucky 👏🏼👍🏼
Thank you! It certainly beats using a pitch fork.

@tinashields9599 I love the old equipment. Usually old equipment is built a lot tougher than the new stuff. I hope your tiller continues to run well!
They are still building them mtd bought them out
Great channel man!!!. On your other video, you helped me replace the alternator on my 1988 f250. You deserve more popularity
@just-a-gamer Thanks man! Trying to boost the channel up but it takes soooo long! Haha. Glad I could help.
@@alittleofalot5171 yeah I have my own channel with about 1900 subs but it takes a lonnng time to get up there
@just-a-gamer. Oh that’s sweet! Good luck with yours!
Thanks

@@kimchee94112 Try and keep the Kohler K161 if you can. It's far superior to these no name Chinese engines.

Very helpful i'm trying to find a air cleaner framework for mine
I’m glad you found it helpful. Good luck on your search!

If is a good thing you got it going again
It’s definitely an exciting feeling to hear something fire up after years of sitting.
The Kohler carb is so much easier to remove from a troyBilt tiller than a tecumseh carb is
Certainly could have been worse.

They can be helpful that’s for sure. Filming them does make the process of actually fixing things take longer though.
I just bought a tiller just like this for $100
Great machine and a good price.
They don’t make them like this anymore. These were built to last. Talk about getting your money’s worth buying one of these back in the day!
Absolutely!
I lone mine out to kind folks and he sold place
New owners said I’m fu c
Ahh man. Sorry to hear that.
Wasting yor time on that tecumseh buy a predator engine saves a lot of time
Yes, WD40 🤌
Probably the most important part, soak everything in WD40.
