Nice job, Made in Germany return lines last years, I have a few Mercedes diesels, my 80 240 D has the original return lines, 40 years old. I use Tygon as well, both good choices, love the 617
Nice, my 1969 CJ5 has the factory Buick 225 odd fire v6. Mine is stock and painted olive drab with US Army decals, although it isn’t an M38A1. Only modification was I cut into the wheelwell and moved seat back 4”
Makes me want to go get my cj7 project back out of the barn. It’s got a 350 Chevy and a t19 mid ratio in it right now and I’ve lost interest. I need to get back to work on it!
holset makes a new turbo that spools quickly. its a 200. it has 5psi at 1300 and around 18 psi at 2200ish. ive admired your jeep for years. i just cant deal with the lack of power. i have a 71 cj6. im thinking of the 617 with an early chevy nv4500 and dana 300. but i still have an sm420, d18 and warn style od. cant decide what setup to use. 27mpg sounds really good. =)
Hey buddy how are ya? Hope ya had a great daddy’s day! Super nice Jeep!!! I thinks it cool you used a Dana 18 t- case, that way you can use the overdrive. I’ve been looking for a clean v6 engined 1967 to 1971 Jeep, hard to find in these parts
Red Eye Cafe Garage What did think of the power of the v6. I like the idea of having an overdrive and a 4 speed with granny gear. Maybe a sm 465 I’m thinking?
Red Eye Cafe Garage Good morning there, what carb did you have on that Jeep was it a stock carb or something you put in it? What about headers? I’ve read online the exhaust system is very restrictive and almost like Jeep kinda didn’t think it through well? I would love to be able to put a pto out the back off the overdrive to run a chipper on a improvised 3 point hitch. I have a lot of goofy ideas. I guess I’m trying to do more with a Jeep so I don’t have to buy a tractor too.
Mercedes didn't sell any OM617 engines in the U.S. with manual transmissions. Did you use the flywheel, clutch and starter that was used with the original CJ5 engine and transmission?.
That’s a really nice setup, well thought out
Just bought an 81 with the Mercedes... Love it. Setting on 37" Crawlers.
Thanks for the tour

I had the T18 in my 1977 CJ7 Renegade Levi edition back in the 80s. I bought it used in 1984. It had the AMC 258 straight six.

It's a nice jeep
Derek Bailey thank you!

its beautiful there, where do you live?

Heyyou Buddy I had one here all winter. That white cj5 that was in my videos for awhile. It was a 67 with a dauntless v6.
Red Eye Cafe Garage What did think of the power of the v6. I like the idea of having an overdrive and a 4 speed with granny gear. Maybe a sm 465 I’m thinking?
Heyyou Buddy the v6 is a good motor for the old Jeep. It had plenty of power just make sure you have a good carb on it.

Done a lot of work on that over the years.. What did it have in it for a V8 prior to the diesel swap???
Full Throttle when I first bought the Jeep it had a 258 straight six. I swapped in a Jeep 304 v8 and then the diesel.
Going by the rear bench seat, this was a Levi's edition CJ-5, correct?
I have no idea. Haha! That Jeep was such a hodgepodge for parts. The seat may have been from a Levi Cj5 but the rest of the Jeep was not. 😆
Nice swap! Did you make your own adapter plate to make the engine to the transmission?
Thanks! Yes.

The only thing Mercedes I’m using is the engine itself.
Don't ever get rid of that CJ. People want those more than the new ones. Does it really only have 41,837 miles??
MANOWAR KILLS its rolled over al least once. So it has at least 147,000 on it. Although, not much on the Jeep is original so it’s not very accurate. 😆
What did you use for the flywheel?
Papi Uuhmelmehahay I used willys flywheel starter and clutch.
How difficult was it to mate with the transmission? What transmission did you use... CJ or Mercedes?
Very easy. Jeep 4-speed
@@redeyecafegarage7484 Could you supply details of which transmission and any conversions needed?
Did you have to modify the oil pan ?
Yessir
How would this compare to the tdi swap?
It a cheaper more simple swap but less performance and economy. Personally I prefer the tdi.
how did you mount the motor?
I used the stock cj5 304 rubber mounts with brackets I made for the engine side. Nothing fancy
