You are absolutely the best tutorialist on you tube! All of your talking is constructive and consice instruction . I have an extremely short attention span and if someone starts explaing tools or fabrics in too great of lengthy detail or starts telling me about their day, I start to snooze and then I miss things. Everything you say is to the point and easy to understand and I just want to say thank you for giving me all I need to make beautiful projects. Your teaching is a gift.
I have quilted for 25+ years and I learned something NEW today! I have always had trouble with doing the finish of the binding on quilts and to see how you folded a triangle at the beginning and how you ended it was great!! I also - finally - wanted to try QAYG and now I see your terrific way to make the block - Thank You!! I guess one is never too old to learn a new way to do something!
Me, too, but I’ve been sewing even longer! 😊
Same here. Been quilting since 1987.
It's only about 15 years for me but I'm sending the video to my daughter who's got three or four years under her belt so she doesn't have to wait.
I took a quilting class, all hand quilted in 1990, the quilt top consisted of 9 large squares, each different, appliqué, pinwheel, etc on 12 inch and separated by strips, and sandwiched together. I probably quilted 3 of the squares together and put it in a rough tote. It has remained in that rough tote since 1991. This has given me new incentive to dig that out
Where do you get the shiny stuff that you use between the layer on pot holder. Love this. You are great.
I always have a hard time putting on the binding. You show how to do it so easily! Very helpful! Thank you.
I have watched this more than once because it is so satisfying to see a small, beautiful project come together. I can often spot a Moda line by it's colors..so pretty. And I like the voice over and sped up filming when appropriate. Thank you. I haven't made potholders in a while and it looks like fun to piece.
That Cat......so sweet watching, I LOVE cats
I am a 70's kid so Mork and Mindy was my favorite show. I love how easy these potholders are. I tried another technique and I think because of the layers they got wonky when I quilted them. I am so excited to try this technique. Merry Christmas to you and your family!
@dawndecesare2177 merry Christmas 🎅 🎄
I love these! And thank you for all of thr tutorials. I just bought my first sewing machine at 50 years old and knew nothing until I found your channel. You have taught me soooo much!!! ❤️
Congratulations!
I love how much freedom you encourage! People always tell me to have a pattern. Having a pattern is nice sometimes but other times I just want to follow whatever happens. I love how you help embrace spontaneity and creativity while showing a great foundation for that freedom.
A pattern is just a guideline! :-)
I can’t wait to try this binding overlap method on my next tight spot. My current favorite way to finish my binding is to sew it on the front, press it open, wrap it to the back with lots of wonder clips, then stitch from the Front with a stitch in the ditch foot. The front shows no stitches and the back is evenly stitched on the binding. (It’s helpful to reduce binding to 2 1/4” wide, have an accurate 1/4” seam, and switch bobbin thread to match binding color). Please keep the tutorials coming! I’d love to see some quilt blocks. Maybe even a monthly quilt along!
This is the way I do my bindings also. It looks very neat and you have to look very close to see the stitches on the front.
One of my kittens just became very interested in watching me sew 😊. Your kitty is gorgeous!
Wow! Never had binding work so smoothly!! Thank you for this great tutorial!
Nice to know anytime I need a video on how to make something I can look you up and there it it is. Thank again Erica. I have learned so much from you over the last 2 years when I retired and went back to sewing again.
Love how you're showing the Quilt Roller and sewing it on the batting as you go. Thank you!
Your little kitty watching you is so precious. ❤
Love this process. I used to live down the street where Mork and Mindy was filmed - Boulder Colorado. I loved there in 1956. . Needless to say this was about 20 years before the show was filmed.
I lived in Boulder for about 15 years! :)
I just watched the tutorial again and took notes so that I can make the potholders as perfectly as the one demonstrated. To add to the fun, I am planning on making a hot mat for the center of the table in the same manner only as a rectangle 10" by 24" and make it a matching set for an upcoming housewarming gift.
What an Easy Tutorial. Just in time I need more pot holders. Jax just loves being in front of the camera.
For ME, the hardest part of quilting, is the ending of the binding. I always seem to have a big bunch of fabric at the end, & it looks messy. But you did very good in explaining, & showing how you do it. Thanks!
I just found your channel became a new subscriber. I've been wanting to learn how to sew for a long time. And now with the COVID-19 restrictions, I have no excuse not to do it. And as a guy, I wanted to make a project that I could actually use. So I didn't want to make a baby quilt or anything like that. So pot holders are absolutely perfect. I look forward to watching all your back catalog videos. Keep up the good work.
I love your quality control kitty. I love your binding trick. Pretty pot holders.
Thank you, I love the trick you showed joining the binding! Also your comment of adding front to back or back to front. I make my binding 2.1/4” and sew back to front. You won’t have that wide look if you cut the binding 21/4”
I love quilt as you go. I haven’t sewn in a while but this is how I learned to do binding. Binding is tricky because I’m a perfectionist lol
Mom and I took a class on mitered binding in the 90s and neither of us were able to do it at home. This video is fantastic, I have saved it and will use this method on all my projects. Your videos are wonderful. You explain everything without chit chat that is distracting.
Nanu! Nanu! Mork was awesome!
I LOVED MORK AND MINDY!!!
Mind BLOWN with the way you started and ended the binding. It was always a huge frustration for me. Thank you!!!!
I love the start of your binding of just opening up the binding and flipping that triangle down to start! So much easier. Thank you!!
After several disastrous attempts at binding my work I found your channel. Thank you so much for your easy and clear instructions. Success😊😊😊😊
Glad it helped!
the tip about connecting the binding was awesome!!!!!
Yes I lived Mork and Mindy. Grandma was the best! I love your scrappy projects you have a flair for putting fabric together.
These potholders are so cute! very good instruction and well filmed so we can see what you are doing. Thanks! I loved Mork and Mindy. - and your lovely cat is so well behaved! Mine always tries to attack and play with anything that moves
No, he's usually all up in my business when I'm sewing and I just cut a lot of it out LOL!
Great 👍 I love the way you doing the binding at the corner and close it 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
That was a great hack for sewing binding on those small projects. You can never have too many potholders so they make great quick scrap friendly gifts.
That binding tip is genius! Wish I had known this when I was binding coasters and mini table toppers! Thanks for sharing your expertise! Merry Christmas to you and your family! ❤️
Wow!! Thanks for the binding tip!! Making placemat/pot holder set...worked AWESOME!
Excellent tutorial. It looked like so much fun that I had a notion of taking ALL my fabric and making potholders--that would be silly but fun. I like the way you join the binding. The fabric selection is lovely.
It’s the little tips that make sewing so much easier and enjoyable. Thank You for your time and your talent.
EDIT: After viewing your page of video there were several that I would like to see. So, I’m subscribing to your channel.😁
Love this project! My first one was screwy but I used my quilting foot for the binding the second one and it looks much better😃
I am glad to have watched this tutorial today! Now I have a gift idea for someone on my list this Christmas!! Thank you!!
Yep I remember Mork and Mindy too, brilliant 😊. Thank you once again for a brilliant tutorial, I’m gonna try this one just in time for Christmas, Merry Christmas 🎄 x
I love these kinds of projects ❤easy and fun and most importantly using up all the scraps !
I love your fabric selections and your practical sewing tips. You do a great job. So fun to watch all your videos. Very inspirational.
The binding part I've been a little scared about but you've explained it so well.
Thank you!
I thought I heard a cat;looked around for mine. Tuxedo cat is very interested in the sewing process, both hers & mine. Slyvester once sat on the foot pedal to 'help' me sew; I had to turn off the machine. Your binding process is something I will use as it makes sense & is easy.
Love those and easy too. thank you.
I love the idea of using the roller instead of the iron!! Thanks for the wonderful video!!😊
I'll have to try that binding method. Never saw that before and the sewing after is tricky the way I have been doing it!
love this tutorial. I desperately need to replace my old loved & worn potholders, but cannot find any today that are made like the originals. Going thru all my scraps & making some new ones, for me & my family! Also going to make some matching hotpads! Thanks so much !!
You dont have to get rid of old ones.just recover with new fabric
I'm a beginner quilter and this looks like something I could do. Thank you.
Love this! I have a helper Kitty too. Only I have to hide my projects with pins with a piece of fabric because he will steal pins and will carry them around the house. What a stinker. He also chases my rotary cutter too. Gotta love them.
Love all your tutorials. Keep them coming! Many Thanks Erica. Merry Christmas!🎄
My cockatiel would sit on my shoulder but jump off to pick up pins! Funny, but not allowed for safety (beak to eye distance)!!! I had to watch very carefully.
Mork and Mindy was great...lol. Wonderful tutorial. I'm intimidated by binding but you make it look easy.
I am looking for a project this weekend and this pot holder is just right, as I shall also be trying out your binding technique. Never seen it done like that before! Thank you for the tutorial.
Awesome tutorial. I want to make pretty potholders to make towel holders. I plan to sew the potholder to a folded towel to attach to the stove handle. Thank you for making this look easy and fun.
made my first pot holder according to you instructions, must say turned out pretty good. Thank you, will be making more. Liked the 2 ways of doing it.
Seam Roller - I went to Lowe's and got a wallpaper seam roller for 5 bucks...does the trick as it is basically the same thing!
Thanks for the tip!
My Grandma Oastein made me one before I was born. Her and her sister(or friend🤷🏼♀️) each had those OLD TIME QUILT MAKING/HANGING LOOM thingys.... I remember when I was 11 we went to visit and I saw both those looms in th bed room with two single beds... swing out back.... lonnnnnng family table in the decent size eat in kitchen(back when MEALS WERE THE MOST IMPORTANT FAMILY TIMES❣️)
I don't remember her bathroom though 🤔!)
She was so small and loving and sweet. Even her auras colors smell sweet to this very moment in my memory. Like, mint leaves and lemon balm... with some bacon and gravy mixed from her physical person.
Thank you! I have struggled binding small pieces like this. This method is a game changer.
Thank you for sharing how to do this method for binding. I also remember Mork and Mindy.
This is a great, fun, quick Christmas gift. Thanks for the idea.
Love your black & white fluffy helper😊
This is a great video. Love the way you did the binding.
I love watching you sew but I hate when you go fast . Love the potholders. Cute
Your clear, DETAILED instructions are so helpful. Thank you!
Binding is my nemesis and your little trick will be so helpful! Thank you!
This is a good project for someone like me who is learning.
Very nice 😍 thx for tutorial...wish you merry Christmas and happy new year!😘
Love your trick on attaching the binding! That's the first time I've seen that tip! Thank you,
I watched Mork and Mindy as a kid - and remember enjoying the comedy. Now like seeing the hair styles and Mindy's fashions ! Thanks for the video. I make lots of potholders some of them quite intricate so I call them "Gourmet Potholders". I have never seen the way you did the binding before - it looks alot easier than the way I do it. I will have to give it a try. Thanks !
Loved the binding trick!!!! They are really cute 👍🥰
I have the same sewing machine you have and I can not get the needle threaded. You go through that process with great ease 😁
Nanu Nanu! Love this idea Erica, thanks for sharing! God bless. 💖💖💖
Love the kitty supervisor
The binding trick will be very useful. Thank you. Enjoyed the video.
The best potholder tutorial on here. Thanks. I always watch your channel!
Fun and easy. I also learned a great new way to close the binding. Thanks
Thank you for this tutorial!! This is the first time I’ve really understood how to do the binding this way.
I love your quilting, so much fun watching you sweet cat 🐈⬛
I've never seen you with darker hair! It really makes your eyes pop! 🥰
Oh, and great tutorial! 😆
I love these Erica, i have been busy making your other projects but these look so fun. Thank you!
Your videos are so clear, and you make things look so easy - and fun! I still wonder where you find the time....
Je fais du patchwork depuis 30 ans et j'apprends encore. Merci pour vos tutos. A bientôt. Bisous
Erica!! Where were you with this tutorial when I was making potholders last month?!?! Seriously, great tip with the binding. Of course I did all my binding the usual way, which is fine, but this would have been SO MUCH EASIER! Keep up the great tutorials! I haven't sewed since I was a teenager (my mother was VERY accomplished and made everything including my clothes when I was little) and your channel has really helped me re-unlock the lessons my mom tried to teach me all those years ago. Thank you so much for your inspiration, MANY of your tutorials became Christmas gifts this year.
Oh sorry!
Best video I have ever seen for beginners!!!! Thank you so much
I definitely remember Mork & Mindy!
Thank you for a wonderful gift idea and showing some different binding techniques.
Had brother and sister husky mix dogs named Mork and Mindy! Such a fun, dorky show. These pot holders are adorable!
Ive just realised you mean pan mats, im thinking why do pots for plants need insulating batting😂😅 . Love the way you join your binding, so much easier than the way i was taught. Thank you. Merry Christmas 🎅 from England.
That is such cute fabric! I love your method and am going to give it a try with the gazillion scraps I have. Thank you!
Thank you for this nice lesson. You are a good teacher.
Such a great tip for joining the ends of binding that way! Thank you!
❤️🎄 🎁 Fun gift ideas! These would make great hot pads too. Love the binding tip. You always make the most fun things. I like the binding from the front too. Another great tutorial. Thanks! 🎁🎄❤️
Super cute and fun project. Thank you friend sharing the binding tip. That makes things a lot easier.
Love this way to bind! I'm new to this and I think you make this really easy to follow! Thank you!
Your cat is cute too. Love your material you used.
Awesome and easy idea. Great way to use up your scraps while making a useful and thoughtful gift. I love your binding tip for small projects. I will definitely use that one. Thanks for sharing. I appreciate it!
Love this project I'm fixing to run to my sewing room amd make some for Christmas quilts and use up my scraps, thanks 😊
I really liked your video. Very well demonstrated and explained
I like this so much. I received one as a gift and kept thinking I should make gifts. This is the perfect tutorial. Thank you.
Oh I love your quality control manager, aka 🐈😸
I am SEW glad I subscribed to you! Fun projects. By the way....don't you just love your Juki?! I have the Juki TL2010 & absolutely LOVE it. The best part is how fast it cuts the thread & is ready to sew again. No need to pull threads to the back EVER! Thank you for great videos! Can't wait to see what you do for Spring projects!
Thank you for sharing your tutorials. Great ideas. Lovely! ❤🧵🪡👏
Thank you I love this making them for gifts for Xmas!!🎉😂❤
