    You have such a modern classic yet feminine style - such beautiful projects! For blocking your sweater pieces, if have an iron with a steam setting it works just fine.

    I too, heard about your podcast from Sandy of “By the Lakeside” podcast and enjoyed watching you very much. You are a beautiful knitter and love what you have accomplished in such a short period of time. It looks like you are a quick learner and anxious to see your future knits. ❤. Congrats on your new podcast. Your porcelain and Romy sweaters are so beautiful. I’d love to knit the Romy sweater, but don’t think I’ll get that much duplicate stitch done. You should block your Wishbone sweater now to see if it’s the right fit for you. It will stretch some, but since you have a silk mohair with it, it will hold the structure more. You can put it on a cable and soak it in water and block it to see if it blocks out as big as you want it. Your work is beautiful. I understand your frustration with it, but your almost there. Happy knitting.

    Loved the first ep. I really liked the combination of knitting and sewing in one podcast. About the stockinette pattern: Kutovakika has a pattern called 'cinema sweater'. She uses mostly two Fingering weight yarns in her samples but ive used worsted weight an was totally fine :) Was my first sweater ever and i really liked the shape. Especially because of the german short rows and the higher neckline on the back

    Loved your first podcast and your style! Porcelain sweater is on my list haha. You could try steaming with an iron! For stockinette sweater I would recommend the Dad sweater by Emily Curtis.

    Have a look at Martin Storey patterns (his Myrtle cardigan is a good classic raglan cardigan). He’s a longtime designer with great patterns. Fruity Knitting did an interview with him a few years ago.

    I don't know if anyone already said it but I saw that you can spray a cloth with water, put it on top of your knitted item and then go over it With a normal iron, not too hot. Instead of wet blocking that is
    I saw it on Retro Claudes channel in one of her later yarn stash videos, I don't remember which one exactly though😅

  • @scanzaroli
    @scanzaroli 10 місяців тому

    For the Chrisstollen cardigan, since you already have and love the yarn, I would replace the motif that you don't like but follow the rest of the patten. I bought 200 Fair Isle Designs by Mary Jane Mucklestone. It's great and now I frequently substitute designs within a sweater. Your sweaters are lovely.

  • @alyssagoodrich
    @alyssagoodrich 10 місяців тому +1

    re shortening the sweater: It’s a slog but you can just cut the sweater and sleeves and kitchener stitch the two pieces together (with the excess removed). Works perfectly and then you don’t have to redo ribbing / bind offs 🙌🏼 it’s my favorite hack

  • @JulieLeChef

    Wow, that porcelain sweater is gorgeous! I love the 2x2 rib and split hem. Really nice. That Berlin scarf looks so dang cozy ☺
    For steam blocking - you can always wet a rag and iron gently on low over a piece to steam it (I believe Kutovakika has done this?) but honestly I'd recommend investing in a small steamer. They're pretty cheap and I use mine almost daily to quick-block items and de-wrinkle my clothing :)

    Hi Polly! Great episode and beautiful makes! You seem so comfortable talking to the camera about your projects. You should be able to pin out the cardigan to spec and use the steam setting on your iron - just hold it over the fabric, maybe 2-3” above. I also just started a channel called “ Knitting and…” - it’s a fun way to connect. 🧶💕🐢 Lorien

    Loved this episode! Seeing your porcelain sweater made me really want to knit one for myself, i've been on the fence about this for so long. And also to be quite honest, i share your opinion on petiteknit - i'd so much rather support a smaller designer and while these sorts of classic patterns definitely have a time and a place, i usually gravitate towards more unique designs. Looking forward to your next podcast!

    Great first podcast! You a so lovely and a fantastic maker! Your knits are inspiring and that dress! Don’t sell yourself short. You did an incredible job self drafting a dress in velvet! Well done. Check out Caidree patterns. She has classics too. Her Suri Shirt is one of my favourite patterns. It’s fingering tho, but she has several in worsted. And Isabell Kraemar is a great designer. Hope that helps. Looking forward to more! Great background btw ❤

    Love your podcast! So excited to see more! My fave go-to for a plain stockinette sweater is the Lento sweater. It’s written for DK-ish weight gauge (don’t let the pattern description fool you as it says fingering but it’s not) it’s a loose gauge so would work well with a worsted weight yarn. I’ve knit a few in worsted weight and love them all!

    I ran and downloaded the Flower Sweater by Sandnes Garn. All your knits are beautiful but that one was my favorite. As to your under arm bind offs looking different, it looks like you did a sloped bind off on one side and a traditional stepped bind off on the other.

    Hello, I loved your podcast:) And background for me is very catching. Also love your taste for knits. About Petite Knit, I had knitted a lot of her patterns, and I love in them, that they are so easy, for everything you have video, and I am visualist, it's important for me, otherwise it is struggle to knit complicated patterns only from paper. For that i can tell her thank you, because I learned a lot, and now I am ready for patterns only from paper:)

    • @astitchingstory
      @astitchingstory  10 місяців тому +1

      That is true about Petiteknit…and I’ll admit I have learned from her videos as well! I think sometimes I see creaters who seem to ONLY knit her patterns and seeing them everywhere all the time gets tiresome. But there is definitely a place for her simplicity and detailed teaching! I like that positive outlook :)
      Thank you for the compliment on the background! It is my favorite part of my apartment so I had to film there (fingers crossed no one notices the thermostat being a part of the gallery wall 😉)

      @@astitchingstory I am looking forward for next episode:)
      I agree: PetiteKnit perfect for beginners to grown confidence in knitting. Now I am buying patterns from smaller designers, but.. haha🙈 I have some PetiteKnit patterns that I bought for specific yarn, so some of them will be knitted, and I have one favorite pattern with that I love experimenting with different tipes of yarn.
      I made a video for cardigans: and there I really was trying to finde less popular designers, and I will knit one of them:)

    Great first episode! I desperately want to make the Berlin Scarf but I’m trying to finish up some other projects first, so I’ll see if there is still a desire to make this after the summer - I do think I want to make it in a bright red or a buttery yellow but we’ll see. I think the pattern calls for 6 skeins of brushed alpaca but I’d probably add one or two since I’m quite tall and I want it to visually look long enough on me. I started a small channel in the fall, and I’m so impressed with how well-spoken you are and how “professional” your first episode looks. Looking forward to the next episode!

    • @astitchingstory
      @astitchingstory  10 місяців тому +1

      a buttery yellow would be to diiiie for in the berlin scarf! (I am truly in my yellow eta at the moment) part of me is kicking myself for choosing such a run-of-the-mill neutral (even though I know I’ll get a ton of wear out of it.) I went back and checked after filming this and yes my intuition was correct with six balls but as I’m finishing it up now (spoiler: I didn’t want to wait for more yarn to come in!) I would definitely recommend getting one or two more, especially if you’re tall! In my opinion, it is very difficult to have a scarf that is too long…it just makes it cozier!
